Chapter 1: The Khalkhanan Youngling
-Mandalore System, Outer Ring-
In the far reaches of the same system that the planet Mandalore resided, lies the planet known by its inhabitants as Monkh.
The planet Monkh is similar to Mandalore in many ways. However the former is the home of four large supercontinents. One half was like Jungle Mandalor before the Empire Era and the other like Desert Mandalore of the Post Empire Era.
The first supercontinent was the desert in composition, with the one below it being vast grasslands and the other two lush jungles.
It was the home of the people who called themselves the Khalkhanan. A people who were split into two groups: The Thundercloud and Sand Step tribes. These peoples (particularly the Sand Step Tribe) expert cavaliers, and mounted archers. They were also thought to be similar to the Mandalorians, possibly having a common ancestor to them.
The jungle half is home to the Thundercloud tribe, who are hunter/gatherer agriculturalists. Because of their careful practices, it keeps their environment from going off the deep end.
The desert half is home to the Sand Step tribe. Nomadic warriors who essentially wore their environment down to the point where they rely on their jungle dwelling cousins for food.
The two tribes had a relationship of mutually assured destruction. The Sand Step tribe doesn't like being reliant on the Thundercloud tribe for food and have considered conquering them, but realize that doing so would take food out of their own mouths.
Additionally the Thundercloud tribe has a rather uneasy relationship due to the adjacent tribe's warrior culture, but doesn't cause a ruckus because that would alienate the ones they rely on for protection.
The Sand Step tribe has a Clan system, while the Thundercloud tribe has a double monarchy. Both have oligarchic councils. The councils handle laws in between tribes while main governments handle the laws of their own tribes.
Additionally the Khalkhanan don't try outside trade because they are mostly self sufficient. Except for occasionally working with the Mandalorians in mercenary work. (Mainly the Sand Steps).
Governing wise it's a shared job between Khans and Queens. Typically it's meant to be a Kahn and Queen on each side, with the queen acting as a moderator for their husband's so they don't overstep. It's mostly egalitarian, Though women are held in very high regard, making it where if any woman was abducted by say a Hutt, it would prompt near complete and immediate retaliation.
The Steps are mostly meat focused hunters while the Thundercloud tribe rely on wild fruits and vegetables and river cultivated foliage. They trade foods they need.
Now as for how they feel about outsiders, they aren't too fond of them besides the Mandalorians since they share a common ancestor and culture.
The Mandalorians and the Khalkhanan see each other as brother Step is more respected for their unmatched military.
And when the Jedi Order comes to their planet to look for Force Sensitive Younglings, they often face fierce resistance.
Which brings us to now…
-Sand Step Tribe, Main Settlement-
The sands of the supercontinent known locally as Yu-wiuindu, winds swept the grains of earth away like the surface of Tatooine.
Gathered in gridded circles of a settlement of huts similar to the Mongols of our own world, families milled about while mounted riders rode Nekkos and other animals around in archery drills as well as other training.
There were also mothers who worked hard to take care of their children, one child of which being of note here.
It was a child bearing a human appearance with tan skin that came with living in the desert, short black hair and brown eyes.
The features of the Khalkhanan were quite similar to the Mongols of our own world as well as their clothing and armor, weapons, etc, giving them a wild look at first glance.
The child in question was in a traditional Khalkhanan infant basket known as a Pachus, which was typically held on their mother's back to keep the child from falling or getting lost. In true infant fashion, he babbled as he looked around.
As his mother carried him, a ship flew over and its design made many of the adults look up and scowl at it. They knew the ship was from a Republic planet, meaning it was likely from the Jedi Order.
Its presence in their sky meant one thing: They were looking for force sensitive younglings among their numbers.
Moments later, the ship landed on the sands and the ramp lowered as the men surrounded the camp, weapons brandished in advance.
Stepping out of the ship were two Jedi masters, specifically a human, and a short green jedi–a very familiar short and green Jedi. The leader of the men surrounding them stepped forward.
"State your business here, Jedi." He demanded. He already had a good idea of why they were here, but he wanted to hear it from the Jedi's mouths before a conclusion was made.
"Come in peace, we have." The short Jedi told him, a hand held in appeal. "A child, strong with the force, we sense. To train him, we seek." He continued. "Harm, we do not intend." He added.
"What Master Yoda means is that we only wish to help the child understand his connection to the Force, so that they cannot harm themselves and others with their manifesting abilities." The human explained. "I am Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, I assure you. We mean you no harm." He added.
"While it may seem that way, you should also know how much we value our young." The squad leader told him. "And you should also be aware of just what will happen should you try to take the child you sense." He warned.
"Then, perhaps a compromise." The master offered. "The child will go with us to be raised at the temple, but a teacher may accompany us to teach them of their culture. And once the child is of age, they can decide if they wish to return home, or remain in the temple." He continued. "We only ask that no attachment be made to the child at least until such a time it can understand their abilities. To avoid a dangerous fall to the Dark Side of the force." He added.
"That is not up to me. It is up to the child's mother." The leader told him in reply. I don't know whose child you sense, but you best negotiate with the mother instead of myself." He added.
Yoda nodded as he closed his eyes and tried to sense the child in question, until he felt a pull towards an infant boy who was being played with by his mother, the same boy that we saw before.
"That child." The old master nodded, pointing at the infant in question. "Strong with the Force, this one is." He continued, looking at Kenobi. "Like young Skywalker." He added.
"That's quite the claim, Master Yoda." Obi-Wan remarked, since there hadn't been a Force sensitive child as strong as Anakin since said Jedi was found on Tatooine.
"Not as strong as Skywalker, he is. But strong, nonetheless." Yoda clarified as he approached the infant and his mother, smiling at them warmly. "See him, may I?" He questioned.
"... You may." The woman nodded after a moment.
The old master took the babe into his arms and allowed him to look at him, touch him and feel him with the Force, and in response the boy smiled, laughing at the creature in front of him. He knew that this one meant him no harm.
"Your feelings do not betray you, young one." Yoda told him. "Mean you no harm, I do. You are safe and sound. I promise." He smiled, looking at his mother. "His name, it is?" He questioned.
"Jin." The woman told him. "His name is Jin." She added.
"Jin…" Yoda repeated, nodding. "Much potential, young Jin has." The master noted. "Train him well, the Jedi promise." He added.
"Will I see him again?" The woman questioned.
"If he chooses, you will." He nodded. The woman then gave her son a picture of herself before looking at Yoda again.
"Make sure he grows into a strong warrior." She told him.
"Make promises, I will not. Train him still, I will." The master nodded.
The woman looked at her child as she kissed his forehead. "Remember me, my son. I am Laila, your mother." She whispered as he hugged her face. "Remember." She whispered as she relinquished her child to Obi-Wan, though very reluctantly.

-Coruscant, inner system, Jedi Temple-
Years later, a young Jin fell to the ground of his clan's sleeping quarters with a thud and a groan–the cause of the fall is unclear from the current view. Though it became clear when there were three voices laughing at him, which meant he was being picked on by some of his clanmates.
Looks like even Jedi training can't stamp out childish immaturity at this stage…
"Real funny, Tonto." The boy groaned as he got up, looking at the kid who tripped him, that being a Lasat boy in similar robes to himself. Flanking the alien in question was a Rodian and a Marilyn.
"Of course it's funny! It happened to you!" Tonto exclaimed childishly, laughing a bit before another one of the clan got between him and Jin.
"Knock it off, guys." A Togruta girl said, getting between them. She had blue skin, equally blue eyes and the extensions on her head were colored blue and white. She also had white markings on her face, too.
She was wearing the standard youngling training robe.
"Aw come on, Lakshmi, we're just messing around." The Rodian said.
"There's a line between messing around and bullying." The girl stated, arms folded. "And you just crossed it." She added, her face unamused.
"Yeah guys, cut it out." A Marilyn girl with shael green skin and emerald green diamonds on her face, common to her race and purple eyes.
"Yara's right." A sky blue Twi'lek girl, Azura, added.
"So what? Jin's literally the only one of his kind here." The Rodian, Rando, scoffed before…
"Ahem." A strong voice coughed, causing Tanto and his two lackies to go rigid as they slowly turned and saw none other than Jedi Master Mace Windu standing there with a disapproving look on his face.
"M-Master Windu…" The Marilyn boy, Dilo, gulped as Lakshmi helped Jin to his feet.
"Are you okay?" The girl whispered as she helped him up.
"Yeah. I'm fine." Jin whispered back in reply.
"I was on my way to the council chambers to address whatever matters arose, and on my way, I found three of you picking on one of your own." The Vaapad practitioner said as he looked at the three troublesome younglings before him. "Just what could possibly warrant your mistreatment of young Jin?" He questioned in a stern tone.
"He thinks he's better than us." Tonto stated.
"*Cough* I never said that. You did." The Khalkhanan Youngling coughed.
"I can vouch for that. He's never said anything like that once." Lakshmi confirmed.
"You're always taking his side, Lakshmi." Dilo retorted.
"Because I'm his friend, and I'm not abandoning him." The Togruta girl shot back with a huff.
"Enough!" Mace interjected firmly, silencing any other comments. "Tonto, Dilo, Rando, based on what I've heard, you three will be punished for this unprovoked harassment. You will do nothing against Jin, and doing so will only make things worse for you." He told the three in question.
"Yes sir." The two sighed meekly.
"Now, all of you get to bed. Tomorrow your training resumes in the morning." The master told them. "And take this seriously, because you will be undergoing the Gathering soon." He told them.
"Yes, master." The clan chorused as they retired to their beds for the night.

Around a year later the younglings in Jin's clan were now boarding a ship that would take them to Ilum and its Crystal Caves, where they were to find their kyber crystals.
'Hard to believe it's time for this…' Jin thought, unsure of how to feel about all this.
"Alright everyone, board the ship, we'll be leaving shortly." A familiar Jedi Master told the kids.
"Master Kenobi." The Khalkhanan Youngling greeted as he stepped forward, bowing to the man.
"Hello, Jin. You've grown quite a lot." The man nodded back as he ushered the others onto the ship. "We can talk at a later date. You lot have to get underway." He added.
"Will you be joining us?" Lakshmi questioned.
"No, I won't. However…" Obi-Wan replied before turning. "Anakin! Come here for a moment!" He called.
"Coming, Master!" A new voice called, prompting Jin to turn and see a man with dark brown hair, brown eyes who looked to be around nineteen, dressed in black robes approaching them.
"Children, this is my Padawan, Anakin Skywalker." The man explained before turning to Anakin. "Anakin, you said that you always wanted to escort younglings on a Gathering expedition, did you not?" He questioned.
"Yes I did." Anakin nodded before looking at the group of younglings. "There's a lot for you kids to see, and by the end of it, you'll all be different people." He told them.
"We look forward to learning from you." Jin, Lakshmi, Yara and Azura bowed respectfully before they departed.

-Planet Ilum-
The wind howled and snow blew as a perpetual blizzard ripped across the frigid planet known as Ilum, where the rare resource known as the Kyber crystals resided. Personally, Jin found it annoyingly freezing, and given his acclimation to the deserts of his homeworld…
"Ugh, I am not meant for the cold…!" He shivered.
"Aw quit your blubberin', Jin. it's not nearly as cold as things are during the winters on Lasan." Tonto told him.
"Quiet back there!" Anakin called as the group stopped in front of a cliff face. "Okay, now all of you need to reach out with the Force along with me. That's the only way we'll be able to get in." He told them.
"Oh so we just need to use a skill we're still learning, perfect." Dilo nodded sarcastically.
"Shhh!" Azura hissed as they all stood in a line.
The kids all closed their eyes as they concentrated as hard as they could, their hands outstretched. It was gradual, but the ice blocking their way forward did collapse into the ground and reveal the entrance to the temple.
"... This is the most elaborate door in the galaxy." Lakshmi remarked, getting a few chuckles in return since it was kinda true.
"Come on, kids. Your destiny awaits just beyond these doors." Anakin told the kids as they all used the Force to open the door and enter what looked to be a chapel made of naturally occuring stalactites and stalagmites of pure kyber ice–and sitting in the center of this natural cathedral, was a short green gremlin of a Jedi the Younglings knew very well.
"Greetings, young ones." Yoda smiled at the children, sitting cross-legged on a rock of kyber crystal whilst hovering with the Force. "Good to see you all, it is." He added, his voice warm and loving like a wise grandfather.
"Thank you, Master Yoda." Anakin nodded as he bowed to him, the younglings doing the same.
"Ah, young Skywalker. Here instead of Obi-Wan, come you?" The old master asked as he hopped down and walked up to the group, hands behind his back.
"Yeah, he had something that required his attention so he sent me instead." The Padawan nodded.
"Understand, I do." The old Jedi nodded before looking at the younglings gathered. "The Gathering. Important to your journey to become Jedi, it is." He began as the blizzard outside slowly gave way to sun, which illuminated the room and activated a kyber sun dial, melting the door before them, and allowing them entry. "Go in, you must. But do not look for your crystals. Feel, with the Force, instead. For find you, they will. Not you them." He instructed.
"So it just comes down to us wandering the caves until our crystals "see" us?" Jin summed up.
"That's the short version, yeah." Anakin nodded with a shrug.
"Sounds simple enough." Tonto shrugged.
"Simple, it is." Yoda nodded. "Easy, it is not." He added cryptically.
"Of course…" Dilo groaned, facepalming.
(Later)
The clan of twenty odd younglings slowly made their way into the crystal freeze behind the door, while Anakin and Yoda stayed behind to allow them time to go it alone.
"Say, I have an idea." Tonto said. "Let's have a bit of fun, and make a game of our gathering." He suggested.
"This isn't a game, guys." Lakshmi stated sternly.
"I'm into it, why not?" Azura countered.
"Uh… Sure?" Yara squeaked.
"Sounds cool." Dilo nodded.
"Yeah!" Rando added.
"...What do you propose?" Jin questioned, arms folded.
"We split up, spread out and search for our crystals and time ourselves. Whoever finds them the quickest is the winner." The Lasat replied.
"... Fine, but I'll throw in the term of bonus points in the event anyone gets two crystals." Lakshmi sighed. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
"... Guess my vote makes it unanimous, then." The Khalkhanan boy said as they joined hands briefly. "May the Force be with us." He said.
"May the Force be with us." The others nodded as they split up.
As this went on, Anakin and Yoda heard the entire exchange.
"Well, they seem to be getting along." Anakin noted. "Don't you agree, Master Yoda?" He asked.
"Indeed." Yoda nodded in agreement before he smiled a bit. "Play a small joke on them, I may." He added.
"Is it the protein cube myth?" Anakin asked with a smirk.
"Gets old, that one does not." Yoda chuckled as the two let the kids be for the time being.
(Later)
A bit later, Tonto was searching his quadrant for any signs of a Kyber crystal, while also keeping his senses sharp for any signs that his eyes could not see. So far, both senses were coming up empty.
"Where is it?" He wondered as he kept searching, still finding no signs.
Checking his time piece, he realized he'd been searching for little over fifteen minutes. He was about to give up, when he heard a low yet high sort of ringing. This caused him to perk up and make his way to the source, where he found something… interesting.
It was a stalagmite like what surrounded the rest of the cave, but floating just inches above it was a glowing crystal of some sort, a crystal that seemed to be causing the ringing that he was hearing.
"That has to be it!" He exclaimed with a grin before he frowned. "But… How do I get it?" He wondered to himself as he tried to figure out how to approach the situation.
Ice wasn't exactly well known for being easy to get a grip on, after all, so he wasn't quite sure about climbing to get his crystal.
Then it hit him. Stretching his purple furred hand out, he concentrated and felt the crystal in his mind as if it were in his hand, grasped it–and then pulled with the connection he made, causing it to fly into his palm.
"There we go." He said to himself with a smirk.
(Elsewhere)
Lakshmi hummed as she explored the caves for her crystal. She had been at this for ten minutes, last she checked, but there were no signs of her crystal yet.
"It's definitely here. I can tell that much." She muttered as she kept looking around, using the Force to find any signs she couldn't visually see.
She couldn't see or hear anything like Tonto could, but she could feel something pulling her towards a section of the cave where various small holes were perfectly bored into the surface of the wall–and it was the one in the center that she was drawn to the most.
"Hm…" She hummed before she looked inside the hole and saw a glowing crystal. Realizing that it was her crystal, she reached inside and pulled it out. "That's more like it." She nodded with a smirk.
(Elsewhere)
Meanwhile, in a part of the cave that was like a long tunnel, Dilo was walking whilst whistling the Star Wars theme to himself as he walked with his eyes closed–not wanting himself to be distracted by any sights or sounds that weren't him so he could better sense his crystal.
However, as he did this, he failed to notice that the cavern he was walking down soon ended and opened into a seemingly bottomless pit… But instead of falling as he overstepped, the floating rocks in the space of this pit seemed to float into platforms for him and bridged him across to the spire in the center, where a glittering object flickered like a lighthouse beacon.
When he stopped and opened his eyes, he blinked when he saw his crystal before looking back at the pit he traversed.
"... Wow." Was all he could say as he grabbed his crystal.
Sometimes the Marilyn boy surprised himself.
(Elsewhere)
In a fairly slopey area of the cave, a certain red and orange skinned Rodian was in the process of sliding up and down stalagmite hills and formations in order to get to where he was feeling his crystal call him from.
"I can feel it. Just gotta get to it." He said to himself as he kept trying, and was getting closer to his crystal. As he said this, he soon slid down an ice cream cone shaped formation that soon deposited him on flat, solid ground.
Looking around, the boy was quick to notice that there were several Kyber crystals floating around him, but none of them sang to him like the one he was looking for.
As he looked around among the mass of floating crystals, he perked up when he sensed one calling to him from behind him. Turning, he was greeted with a crystal that seemed to be gravitating toward him, prompting him to hold his hand out for it to land in.
"Well, that was something." Rando mused.
(Elsewhere)
Meanwhile, on what looked to be a frozen lake, Yara gingerly walked out to a fang of ice that was at its center, the chittering of the Force emanating from a potential crystal at its peak, which caught the emerald skinned girl's attention.
She was dressed in the traditional black veiled dress and headpiece of her people, which unfortunately made her footing unreliable on the icy surface, especially given that the girl's body had been developing rather shapely, much like the rest of her female peers. This made her center of gravity… rather top heavy.
'I need to be mindful of any thin spots on this ice…' She thought as she slowly made her way across the ice, almost slipping more times than she'd like.
However, as she tried to adjust her balance to change her posture to remain upright, her dress was caught by her shapely and curvaceous thighs, causing her to trip and fall forward, sliding across the ice and face first into the fang of ice she was trying to approach.
"Ow… I'm glad no one saw that." Yara groaned as she got up and looked at the fang, seeing her crystal waiting for her. "At least something good happened." She added with a shrug as she grabbed her crystal.
(Elsewhere)
Meanwhile, with Azura, the girl had decided to try something a little different and had shed a few of her layers to try and sense her crystal through her skin. She was concentrating her Force field to keep her warm except for when she neared her desired trinket.
Now she walked the cave, dressed in only her brown bra, pants, boots and Twi'lek head dress, showing her own developing womanly figure, which was well along for a girl of only thirteen. A fact she took great pride in.
As she walked, she found herself in a cave with several fangs of kyber ice, all with clusters of crystals in them. She passed them all by, not feeling the slightest bit of cold around her as she continued her striding search–at least until she felt herself get goosebumps.
"I think it's here somewhere…" She muttered to herself as she dropped her Force field to free her senses… though now she felt the cold air around her. "Okay, time for the layers." She shivered, putting them back on as she followed the cold gust she felt before.
Walking in the direction her senses directed her to go, she followed them until she found not one, but two kyber crystals waiting for her.
"Well, this is a fair turn." The Twi'lek girl mused as she cupped the crystals in her hands. Leaving to find the others.
(Elsewhere)
Finally, Jin was now walking towards the tallest spire in the cave by far, where he could hear faint echoes of his people's throat singing ringing in his mind like a harmonic duet–this was where he was meant to find his crystals.
"Now, how to get up there…?" He mused as the others came up behind him.
"Trying to figure something out?" Lakshmi asked, Jin glancing back at her briefly before looking back at the spire.
"Just trying to figure out how to get to the top of this spire. I can hear my crystals calling to me." He replied.
"Wait, crystals?" Azura parroted. "Plural?" She added.
"That's what it seems like." The Khalkhanan boy replied as he looked around and noticed that the spire seemed to be surrounded by several small flat ledges, ledges he could jump on.
Humming, Jin focused and used the Force to enhance his jumps so he could reach the platforms. Everyone watched as he jumped to the top of the spire, though the slippery surfaces that made them up did cause him to almost slip a couple of times.
That didn't stop him, though. After a bit, he was able to reach the top and claim his crystals.
"Got it." The boy said as he performed a backflip off the spire and landed on his feet to the applause of the others–the sun now beginning to set. "Come on, we better get moving." He told them.
"Right." The clan nodded before they all made their way out of the cave and back to where Yoda and Anakin were waiting.
"Done well, you have." Yoda nodded as the kids approached him.
"Yeah, great job kiddos." Anakin nodded.
"Yeah. Some of us got more lucky than others." Jin remarked with a chuckle.
"Uh, not that it's relevant, but what would've happened if we failed?" Yara wondered with a nervous gulp.
"Be processed into protein cubes, you would have." Yoda replied, causing the clan to go stiff.
"Uh… Y-You're not being serious are you?" Tanto gulped.
"Hmm hmm hmmm. No. Joking, I am, young one." The old mentor chuckled.
"Yeah, that's just an old wives' tale we use to mess with the heads of younglings." Anakin snickered.
"I have half a mind to Force push both of you for that!" Jin exclaimed indignantly.
"Calm down, Jin. We're just kidding around." The older padawan told him placatingly.
"So after all this comes the part of actually building our lightsabers, right?" Lakshmi inquired.
" 's a particular droid that we'll be handing you off to for that, however." Anakin nodded.
"Finally!" Tonto exclaimed. "I've already got my idea in mind, I'm going to base my weapon on the Bo-rifles of Lasan." He added.
"I'm going for dual lightsabers." The blue skinned Togruta girl chirped.
"I'll be going with a split saber." Jin smirked. "Though I think I'll be applying that modification for underwater functionality I read about, just in case." He added, getting nods from those who were also going with sabers.
(Time Jump)
The Younglings were now back on Coruscant and were being led by Anakin and Yoda to a place that seemed to be some sort of shop that was meant for Lightsaber crafting, and a droid was merrily at work with it.
It looked old, and had multiple arms that were managing various drawers containing various lightsaber parts. Despite his age, there was no sign of wear and tear on its form.
"Hm? Oh, Younglings here for assembling their lightsabers? Excellent!" He chirped, his voice bringing about the memory of David Tenant.
"Hey there Huyang. Been waiting long?" Anakin asked.
"Master Yoda sent me a notification in advance that I would be getting a clan of Younglings for lightsaber construction. "I assume they all passed?" He asked.
"Succeed, they did. Yes." Yoda nodded.
"Are you sure?" The old droid questioned.
"He's a droid. You expect us to learn from a droid?" Tanto questioned.
"Who said that?" The ancient droid questioned, prompting the Youngling in question to step forward and fold his arms. "Many, many years I have taught many a Jedi before you and I will continue to teach after you." Huyang retorted. "Call me what you wish but know that I have a memory bank containing every lightsaber crafted, and the Jedi who crafted them." He added.
As you may have guessed, he's basically the Olivander of Star Wars, only his hardware is much cooler–eat your heart out, Universal.
"Which will you choose?" Huyang questioned as he activated a projector, displaying various lightsaber designs. "A simple grip? The curved approach? Or something more irregular?" He continued as the Younglings looked at the projection in awe. "You may have your crystals but they're useless if they aren't given life. Do you know how to channel the Force through them?" he asked.
This got the kids to shake their heads in response.
"No? Well then I suggest you watch and listen, until you have a question this droid can't answer." Huyang stated. Then he took notice of Jin. "A Khalkhanan? Just as rare as a Mandalorian Jedi." He noted. "How proud your people must be, in spite of the tensions that are present." He mused.
"That's certainly what I hope for." Jin admitted.
"Tell me, young one. What do you see your saber being?" The droid questioned. "Not what you imagine, what you feel. What does the force mold in your hand when you think of it?" He continued.
Jin focused as he envisioned his lightsaber, and could feel the material it would be made from. It was a material only Mandalorians used, and a mineral that he knew from his studies of his culture.
"Durasteel, the metal of the Mandalorians." He replied. "Laced with Suugan Essena, or Black Thunder, a Force sensitive stone from my homeworld." He added.
"Ah, both are unique, indeed." Huyang nodded. "Hm, though since it has been some time, I have forgotten if I have such materials in storage. One moment." He added before he started looking through several different drawers to look for said materials.
After a bit, he did find some Durasteel components, but no Black Thunder.
"Here we are, Durasteel lightsaber components. No Black Thunder, sadly." Huyang said as he set a drawer on the table. "We may have to go to Monkh to acquire some." He added.
"Necessary, that may not be." Yoda told Huyang as he hobbled over to a librarian who was working across from them. Jin recognized this particular book keeper; he was a shaman that the Jedi recruited from Monkh to help him stay close to his roots.
His name was Huligu, and he was an older Khalkhanan man with long gray hair, an equally long fu manchu beard and a face canyoned with wrinkles, he was dressed in simple brown robes as well.
The two conversed for a time before the bookkeeper rummaged in the sleeve of his robe, before he pulled something long and rectangular out. It was black, smooth, and looked like it could have been liquid rather than stone to the untrained eye.
Yoda accepted the stone before he returned to the group, handing the material to Jin.
"I'm going to assume this was kept as a charm of sorts, or was being saved for something like this." The Khalkanan boy mused.
"Well trained, your eyes are, young Jin." Yoda nodded as Jin handed the material to Huyang.
"Can you make use of it?" The boy asked.
"You have two kyber crystals, and based on this…" The droid trailed off as he assessed the material. "I can make enough for both sabers." He concluded with a nod.
"Alrighty then." Anakin nodded. "You kids ready to get started?" he asked.
"Yes sir!" the Younglings choroused.
(Later)
The kids were now in the process of building their sabers, they did this by using the Force to guide the pieces into place–something that some were catching on quickly, others not so much, and others thought they had it but quickly realized a mistake, and there was Tanto.
How was he doing? Well…
"The second I see a Sith Lord, I'm gonna cut him down!" He declared enthusiastically as he swung his hilt around. The hilt itself was more staff than saber, with smaller parts for a blaster and a smaller secondary arm for excess kyber energy on the other end as a smaller backup blade.
It was like a bo rifle, but with a lightsaber and dagger in place of shock rods.
Huyang took it and opened it for assessment before shaking his head.
"The only one you'll kill is yourself." He told him. "You inverted the power emitter, so when this is activated, the only thing left of you and your lightsaber will be your kyber crystal." He analyzed.
"That can't be right, I had it where the emitter could work in two directions…" The Lasat said, scratching his head in confusion.
"That only works if you have two kyber crystals, and you're using a lightstaff!" Lakshmi called over her shoulder.
"I suggest finding another method to make use of your second port." Huyang told him as he stepped aside.
"Hm…" Tanto hummed before an idea came to him, and then he got to work.
Meanwhile, Dilo and Rando had much better luck. The Rodian had decided to go with a Light Staff while the Marilyn boy chose to make his saber a cross guard saber, both being what the boy's crystal's pulled them towards.
"That should do it." The light green diamond freckled boy smiled.
"Finally got that swing function to go right." The red and orange Rodian sighed in relief.
Azura, meanwhile, focused her attention on the twin lightsabers she would be using in the future. After a few mistakes were made, she finally got them to where they needed to be.
"Okay, this should do it." She nodded.
Lakshmi was almost done herself, and she already knew how she wanted hers to come out to be, as did her crystal. In short, her saber was one that had a built-in exhaust port that took the form of an X pattern in front of the blade, adding a secondary guard to her weapon.
"Let's just see how people react to this." She said to herself with a smirk.
Yara, meanwhile, prepared a rather simple saber, one that looked rather slender and diminutive–even dainty looking, with a sleek curved handle that looked very feminine, elegant even.
"It would seem that we have a possible Jedi courtesan among us." Huyang chuckled with a good natured joke, causing the girl to blush.
And then there was Jin. His two lightsabers could combine into a saber staff, which made it a split saber. There were three spike-like protrusions that made up the guards, and the rest of the body was sleek and shiny thanks to the Durasteel they were composed of. The grips themselves were meant to support two handed and single handed forms, so there was no discomfort.
"And with that, everything is ready for my future." He nodded as he held his lightsaber.
"Then let's see how everyone's turned out." Huyang said as he looked at the rest of the clan. "Power on your lightsabers, and let's see the color of the blades." He prompted.
First up was Tanto as everyone fell into line, his saber activating and extending to reveal that he'd modified his staff-saber to distribute its excess energy in the form of force lightning than a constant beam, while the top half of the Bo-rifle saber was a simple blade–with Blue-Green color.
"Hmmm, a mixture of blue and green, now that's a color I haven't seen in quite awhile." Huyang mused.
"What's it mean?" Tanto questioned, twirling his weapon idly.
"What it means is that you are in tune with theCosmic Force and are willing to fight for the peace."" The droid replied, causing the youngling to nod, looking at his clan next. "And an even stronger sense of family." He continued as he placed a hand on the young Lasat's shoulder. "And that means you know what's really important, under any sort of bluster or ego you may hold up." He added with a smile–well, a droid smile, anyway.
Rando went next, and his blade turned out to be an Orange color, which surprised the old droid yet again.
"An orange saber. Haven't seen that ever since the guard change of the second Temple." He mused, getting a few confused looks. "Long before your time, the Jedi who last had an orange saber was a Sentinel who acted as a Jedi of the people. He even helped forge the First Republic." The droid explained.
"Wait, if I'm understanding that correctly, that would also make me a Jedi of the people, wouldn't it?" Rando asked.
"If you work hard enough, then that is what you shall be." Huyang confirmed, causing the Rodian to nod in affirmation.
"Sounds good enough for me." He smiled.
Next was Dilo, and he ignited his cross saber–and it came out as a Cloudy Sky Blue color. "Hey, isn't this the same color as…?" He said before Huyang interjected.
"Jedi Elder Terra Sinube, yes." The droid nodded, examining the blade. "This kind of color is only possible when the user is of clear mind when their crystal is harvested." He continued. "How did you acquire yours?" He asked.
"I closed my eyes and hummed a song to myself to keep any distractions out while I looked for my crystal. Apparently I also crossed a chasm without realizing it, too." Dilo replied, causing everyone to facepalm.
"Yes, that would do it." The old droid hummed with a nod.
"How do you cross a chasm and not realize it until you look?" Jin couldn't help but ask.
Moving on, Yara was next and her saber ignited into a rather simple looking blue color, matching her simple handle design, but the blade also seemed extremely even, and soft–almost to the point where it would tickle rather than cut if one touched it.
"Hm, how unusually delicate." Huyang noted as he assessed the blade. "I don't know if a lightsaber of this nature would befit a frontline fighter, but I've been wrong about things like this before." He continued.
"Um… Thanks?" The girl replied a bit nervously.
Next was Azura and her Saber and Shoto saber, which she ignited and showed a pair of green lightsabers. "Huh. Okay, I can make this work." The Twi'lek girl nodded.
"Green. You're more courageous than you look." Huyang remarked. "This likely means you're one who mediates disputes in your clan, doesn't it?" He questioned. "At least until a firm hand needs to be dealt." He added.
"Like you wouldn't believe." The Twi'lek girl chuckled, bonking Dilo on the head as he tried to tickle Yara into submission, causing him to faceplant due to the Force being applied to it.
Second to last, was Lakshmi, who ignited her ornate cross saber–and revealed that her color was a pure yellow!
"Yellow?" Huyang gasped in surprise. "This color is just as rare as orange! This represents the color of the Jedi Sentinels, they are trained in the force and combat to the point of near perfection. And are most seen guarding the poor and the Temples as a whole." He added.
"Then the less fortunate are about to get a guardian." Lakshmi grinned.
Jin seemed mesmerized by the luck that his clanmate had with her saber–not least because of the fact that the yellow light from the saber's beam bathed the Togruta girl in a golden shine, making her arguably more beautiful in his eyes.
"Well, let's see what I got." The Khalkhanan coughed as he pressed both the activation buttons on his splitsaber… and two purple blades came out!
"Purple blades!" Huyang uttered in surprise. "Now I've only seen that color a few times in my day. And even fewer in recent centuries… But I only know of one or two people with such a saber in today's generation." He mused.
"Mace Windu is one." Jin nodded, recalling that the Jedi in question did have a purple lightsaber.
"Yours is a rare and unique Force attunement." The droid told him. "So I advise you to use it wisely." He added.
"Yes sir." The Khalkhanan boy nodded, bowing as he and the others extinguished their sabers.
"A long journey, all of yours is." Yoda stated. "Support each other, you must." He added.
"We understand, master." The younglings chorused as they bowed.
"That's all for now, kids." Anakin told them. "Head back to your quarters, and be ready. Your trials to become padawans begin in a week's time." He added.
The clan bowed once more before they returned to their quarters again, all of them feeling pretty good about themselves.
(Later)
"So, how long did it take for you guys to find your crystals?" Tanto asked as he sat on his bed.
"I think we all lost track somewhere along the way, so let's just drop that." Azura told him in reply.
"Yeah, that's probably for the best." Rando sighed as he laid down.
"Killjoys…" The Lasat sighed as he laid on his bed.
"I don't know about you guys, but purple is the last thing I expected my blades to be." Jin reparked as he looked at his splitsaber.
"I didn't expect mine to be yellow, so we're in the same boat there." Lakshmi told him in agreement.
"Well, I'm going to bed." Dilo sighed as he laid down on his cot. "If you guys are done chit-chatting, I'd like to get some sleep." He added.
"Fair enough. We have a big day in a week." Dilo sighed as he decided to get some shut eye.
The rest of the clan decided sleep would be good for them, and opted to follow suit.
Dragon Emperor0: Hello readers and fellow Star Wars fans. This is my attempt at rewriting a SW story that I had set during the Rebels timeline. I decided to rewrite it because I just generally thought the original wasn't all that good and because I wanted to flesh out my character and the original race I created at an earlier part of the timeline. So, say hello to my new story: Sugaan Essena, or Black Thunder. Fans of Jedi Fallen Order will know exactly what the title references.
ThermalsniperN7: I'm pretty sure this is my first time writing a Star Wars fic, so this should be fun. I do have an OC of my own, but he won't be introduced until later. I'll say this, though: He'll have a kyber rifle and some more… original weapons.
Dragon Emperor0: Additionally, yes all of these Kiddos will be important. As focus will swap between them from chapter to chapter, though the main focus will remain on Jin. Kinda like in the original Clone Wars show.
ThermalsniperN7: This'll hopefully spice things up until Order 66, assuming we don't decide to skip several episodes in rapid succession because we got impatient. Anyway, see you next time.
