warning: the clock starts now.

Take A Break, Take A KitKat

The council hut was nice and everything, but in the haste of it all, I'd forgotten what exactly kept us all crammed in this place like a barrel of sardines. These bloody walls. I ran my hand along the cracks, lichen crackling under my fingertips. Thick, woody vines twisted up the wall, ivy dangling down in pathetic strands that reminded me to check my split ends. Time to hope there's a semi-decent hairdresser at the Safe Haven, otherwise we'd all be done for.

God, the Safe Haven. A familiar heaviness bloomed in my chest: most of the people I now shared this small patch of grass with would never make it there. The fact had lingered in the back of mind since I'd arrived, but I'd been too focused on trying to tolerate them to remember that I was essentially bargaining with dead men. And of course, trying to reassure myself that 'everything will be fine' and 'No-one will die on my watch' was completely fruitless because that's exactly what Thomas did the first time around and look how well it turned out for him.

I tilted my head to the sky, giving a sigh that could rival a state secondary school teacher on a Monday morning. All I could do was concentrate on the next step of the plan, and avoid sparking any more fights.

Author's Note: Was what the step of the plan you ask? Scrapping your entire story so far and rewriting it. Yes, that's right. I'm officially giving Bea a second try. Turns out that trying to craft a meta-narrative composed of multiple complex plot threads is way, WAY harder to do when you've not made a plan of any description.

That's why I'm giving everyone until September 6th (1 day before the 1 Year Anniversary) to read through and cringe at my old writing before I replace all the chapters with something a bit better. (And I promise, it will be a lot better!).

Thanks everyone for reading so far, especially if you were so kind as to leave a comment. I hope you all have a wonderful day, week, month and year wherever you are in the world :)
