"They're too expensive," Legacy said.
"Translation: we're getting them," Seth chuckled. "What color do you want them in?"

She shook her head and smiled. There was no arguing with him. It was a nice pair of sneakers. She could see herself wearing them everyday.

"I don't know. I'm torn between black and turquoise. And I must admit the purple ones are trying to get into the fight too," she said. "What do you think?"
"I think we're getting all three pairs," he said.
"No!" She looked shocked. "Black. I choose black. Black goes with everything."
"Too late, chipmunk," he said.

He picked up all three pairs and walked towards the counter.

"See if there's anything else you like," he said over his shoulder.
"I'm not getting anything else," she said.

She heard him laugh while she reached for her worn out sneakers to put back on. She walked up to the counter and looked horrified at the cost of all three pairs.

"It's too much," she said.
"Rich dad, remember?" He teased. "You can buy the whole store and he won't care. He just wants to see you happy."
"One pair of sneakers would have made me happy," she said.
"I know," he said.

He picked up the bag and they walked outside. They walked to the car where there were already bags of clothes in the trunk. She couldn't believe how much money had been spent on her already. She had fought him in every shop and she had lost everytime. For some reason he found amusement in those fights and not giving in to her not wanting that much money to be spent on her.

"You should wear the turquoise ones right away," he said. "They would look good to your jeans, and we can finally throw out those old ones. Your feet is screaming for help in those shoes."
"Fine," she sighed. "I give up."

He chuckled and took the turquoise pair out of the bag. She changed shoes and he threw the old ones in a nearby trash can.

"Feeling better?" He asked.
"Much better," she answered. "Thank you."
"Don't thank me. I'm just doing my duty with Edge's bank account," he said. "Let's go buy him some sushi."

They drove to the sushi shop, picked up some food, and drove back home. He carried all the bags inside while she went to Edge's room. His eyes lit up when he saw she had sushi with her.

"Amazing," Edge said. "Thank you, sweety."
"It was Seth's idea," Legacy said.
"Don't give me all the credit. I just put it out there as an idea," Seth said.

Legacy turned her head to see Seth walk in with plates and chopsticks.

"I left everything on your bed so you can unpack later and put everything where you want it to go," Seth said.
"Thank you," Legacy said.
"Let's eat," Seth said.

They all plated their sushi and started eating. Legacy studied both men. It was weird sitting in the same room with her father and a man that she still had no idea how he was connected with her father.

"So tell me, Seth," Legacy said. "How long have you been working for Edge?"

Seth and Edge looked at each other and smiled.

"What?" Legacy asked.
"I knew Seth's mother. We were best friends," Edge said.
"My mom got sick when I was 15. Stomach cancer," Seth said.
"I'm sorry," Legacy said.
"It's okay," Seth said. "Edge adopted me."

Legacy moved her eyes from Seth to Edge.

"We didn't know how long she had left so I offered to marry her and adopt Seth so he would legally me mine and have a place to go if she passed away before he turned 18," Edge said.
"That was really nice of you," Legacy said.
"She fought it for two years," Edge said.
"But once it hit her liver, it was over quickly," Seth said. "I was 17 when she passed and I moved here to live. You can say I'm the lazy child who never left home."

Edge chuckled and patted Seth's hand.

"Seth is my right hand man. He's only my son on paper. I was never in a relationship with his mother, and he doesn't call me dad," Edge said.
"That would be weird," Seth said.
"It would, wouldn't it?" Edge said. "Once he turned 18, I put him on contract. He does anything I need him to. Lately those chores have been mostly looking after me, unfortunately. When I'm gone, I want him to take over my business."
"And I've said no because it should go to you," Seth said.
"Me?" Legacy asked. "I don't even know what business we're talking about."
"I actually own two," Edge said. "I own a candy factory which has been my pride and joy since '93. I started the business as a way to spoil you if I ever were allowed to have you in my life. Everything was made with love with you in mind, and it just grew over the years. My second business is vegan food. When I saw the market rising, I figured I'd get in on it early and start creating food for vegetarians and vegans. It's a successful business too."

Legacy looked from man to man and shook her head no.

"I know nothing about running a business," Legacy said.
"I'll teach you," Seth said.
"I don't want the business!" Legacy hissed. "I want my father to live!"

She stormed out of the room and went to the kitchen. She grabbed the countertop tightly and looked outside.

"Careful you don't break it," Seth said.

Of course he had followed her there. He was the only one who could with Edge having such a hard time moving around.

"Leave me alone," she said.

He stepped behind her, reached around her, and placed his hands on top of hers, trapping her between his arms. They both stood like that for a few seconds, just looking at the birds in the garden.

"I don't want the business, Seth," she finally said.
"How about just one of them?" He asked.
"No," she said. "You can have them."
"I don't mind that but I still think you should be involved. How about we own them together?" He asked.
"I'll think about it," she said.
"I'll take that answer for now," he said.

She turned around in his arms and suddenly didn't know what to feel. She wasn't used to being this close to a good man. He still had his arms around her with his hands on the countertop.

"No phone, no job, no freedom," he said. "You only left the house when you went grocery shopping or had to escort the small children somewhere."
"Just some of my many chores. They made sure to give me the exact amount of money I needed for shopping so I couldn't keep anything to myself. I was not allowed any type of freedom," she said.
"Legacy Lesnar," he sighed. "That's your stepfather's last name."
"I wasn't given a choice," she said.
"Of course you weren't," he said.
"I hate that name," she said.
"I would hate it too if I had it," he said.

She twisted a smile and he gave her a smirk back. There was a lot of tension hanging in the air. She had never felt like this before but she couldn't trust her own emotions. Everything was so new that she wasn't sure how to feel about anything.

"Have you gotten to know me enough yet?" She asked.
"If you think you can push me away, that's not going to happen. I like you," he said.
"No, it was a follow up to your joke yesterday in the car," she said.
"Oh, the 'fuck me' comment!" He laughed. "Chipmunk, we gotta work on your flirting."
"Forget it," she said.

She tried moving away but he kept her boxed in. He leaned down and ran his nose up her throat.

"Is this what you want?" He asked.
"Maybe," she whispered.
"I think I need to take my time with you and be gentle," he said.
"Why?" She asked.
"If you never had any freedom, you never got to date. You never got to be with a man before," he said. "I won't mind being the first but I gotta do it the right way. You deserve that."
"I've had sex before," she said.

He leaned back out and smirked at her.

"You have?" He asked. "So you do have a rebellious side. Do tell."
"No, I never went against their word," she said.
"I'm confused," he said.
"Forget it," she said. "Let me go. I'm tired and I don't find this game funny anymore."

He moved one arm so she could walk away. He looked at her back as she walked towards the door, and then it suddenly hit him.

"Legacy," his voice quivered. "Did Brock ever do something to you?"
"Define something," she said.
"Turn around and look at me," he said.
"I'd rather not," she said.
"Did Brock ever touch you? Did he ever molest you?" He asked.

She wrapped her arms around herself. She couldn't give an answer so she just nodded. She felt his hand on her shoulder and she jumped forward.

"Nothing happened!" She snarled. "Leave me alone!"

She ran away from him and he listened to her footsteps until they disappeared into her room. He felt his cheeks get wet. He walked back to Edge's room and looked at the fragile man lying in his bed.

"What is it, Seth?" Edge asked.
"I can't tell you," Seth answered.
"Is it Legacy? Don't keep me in the dark," Edge said.
"Yeah," Seth sighed. "I can't tell you, Edge. She needs to tell you herself. It's not my secret to share. You gotta respect that. She'll let you know once she's ready."
"Is she leaving me?" Edge asked.
"No, it's nothing like that," Seth managed to force a smile. "Relax, Edge. She's staying. I just got surprised and it hit me emotionally. I shouldn't have come in here scaring you like that. Let me clean up and then leave you to it. You need some rest."
