This time the 'incident' became a political issue. When faced with explaining why Japan sent agents to kidnap-or worse, American citizens, the Japanese pulled out the warrant, 'dead or alive' on Kaede. The Ambassador claimed she had destroyed a health facility and killed most of the staff.

Searching records, the American representative handed over the kidnapping of Kaede by Japanese agents as well as the murder of two people by them during that kidnapping. He also had documents of the second attempted kidnap of Kaede. The 'foreign' agent that was currently held was going on trial in an American court - no extradition or return to Japan. He would also be charged with espionage, since there was no record of entry for him into the US.

Tempers flared but the Japanese Ambassador calmed down before they sent him home and possibly put sanctions on Japan. They did finally agree that any Japanese agent coming into the US had to register with Homeland security no matter the reason they were here. The warrant for Kaede and her family getting Kaede out of that facility and killing whoever they had to to escape, was not honored. In fact, the US accused Japan of international kidnapping and promised to push the issue if they sent any more agents after Kaede or any of her family.

The UK Ambassador also refused to honor the Japanese warrant.

While political tempers flared, Kanae gently tended to Randy's burn and David Gilbert assured Kanae and Kaede that no one else from Japan would be coming after them.

Although things calmed down for Kanae's house, a bit of information got out through Tracy that everyone knew who the kidnap attempt was on. Yani was forced out of college by her peers. Threats of 'we'll drag you off campus to let Kanae deal with you', made her flee. Nancy, the swim team and the gym and ballet groups also urged Kanae to let Yani go, so Kanae wouldn't be charged with a crime.

Kanae was sorry that happened to Yani, but the girl did deserve it and she wouldn't have to worry about her any more.

By winter break, Kanae was doing well in her studies, she had mastered most of the floor stunts in Gym, and was dancing Ballet nearly flawlessly. She also took self defense classes. Although she hadn't gotten stunned by a shocker, she did know if she was stunned, her mind hands wouldn't work, so she'd have to defend herself without them.

The swim team got Kanae and her house group to go with them up to Killington, a popular ski resort during winter break. This was the first time she or Randy had Christmas away from home. Before they left, they mailed presents out to their families.

Kanae had no idea how to ski, but was assured there were instructors there to teach her. Getting up to that mountain, the weather was cold, but the scenery was nice. So was the lodge they stayed at.

Learning to ski with Randy, Nancy and her group was fun. So was sitting in the lounge curled up beside Randy as they sipped the hot drinks and later their scotch that Kanae was very happy they had. Cuddling and sex at night with Randy in their comfy bed was real good too. Kanae had a great time up at Killington. Before she knew it, it was time to return to college.

Damn.

Other than a couple more 'emergency' calls from the hospital and helping to finance Tracy's college expenses, the winter semester went smoothly. Not spending much money on herself, Kanae's big pile of cash was only dented every time she had to help out Tracy.

Tracy's stomach was getting big now. It was very obvious she was pregnant. The pay she gave Bill for his work on the house, he used to buy a crib and stock their room with the baby items they needed. He also got a job in town, which helped them out. Kanae was glad of that, because Tracy was getting to the point she couldn't work herself any more. Her cleaning business at college had taken off though. Starting off working herself, she now had six other women working for her cleaning first rooms, then got a contract to clean the cafeteria for the rest of the year. Tracy put all her money she earned into her college fund, which eased Kanae's additions. If Tracy kept going like this, Kanae was sure that by the end of next year, Tracy could support herself.

Nancy was becoming a regular visitor at Kanae's house. The 'spare' room was now considered Nancy's room. Nancy held her place in the sorority, but many nights, just stayed over at Kanae's place. In the Sorority, they were sure Kanae was slowly becoming Nancy's girlfriend.

There was one event that Kanae invited the whole swim team over to the house for. The college had taken heat over benching Nancy during a competition. The Dean and the coaches assured Nancy that wouldn't happen again. Kanae hosted the party for Nancy.

The Saturday night of the party, the house was packed. A few women came up to hug Kanae for making the paper article that semi forced the college to make a decision and stick to it. Kanae was even asked to make a speech at the dinner that was mostly in the living room with every spare table and chair they could find.

"Ain't much ta speak about." Kanae said with a wince.

"Then I'll do it!" Ellen said and stood up. Half toasted, Ellen held out her drink as she announced. "This is to our hero Kanae! First, she made the college keep men who didn't have the balls to commit to being transgender, OUT of girl's locker rooms and bathrooms, THEN the entry she put in the college paper made the faculty look like assholes for not letting Nancy here swim. That was enough for them to determine Nancy was on the team and would not be benched for her decision to be transgendered again! We love you Kanae!"

"Hear hear!" a bunch of women cried, raising their glasses up.

After her cheer, Nancy hugged Kanae, which also brought a round of applause. Kanae blushed. "Taint that big-of a deal!" Kanae cried.

"It is to them," Randy assured her with a grin.

Tracy cried out, "Oh …my water just broke!"

That was the distraction Kanae needed to turn the focus on Tracy's coming baby. It also made it a long night while Tracy's contractions were timed, so they could get her to the hospital for the birth.

.

It was five in the morning when Tracy finally had a cute little boy she named William, after his father, Bill. It was a good thing it was a Sunday, everyone was tired from staying up all night. After seeing Baby William and congratulating Tracy and Bill, the majority of the party goers left to get some sleep. Nancy just retired to her room to plop down and pass out.

Bring in the Liberal Arts studies, Tracy took a week off to stay at home with little William. To Tracy and Kanae's surprise, Tracy's parents arrived to see her baby. Not that Tracy's parents were pleased. Immediately after cooing over Tracy's new child, her mother said, "You've done well dear, but having a baby in college is going to be a ton of work, and you're not married.

Tracy stared at her. "Mom, Bill's the father and he's here supporting me and our baby. I'm not giving my baby up!"

"We'll take care of him for you," her mother said sweetly.

"No!" Tracy snapped. "We will. After all I've gone through, I AM NOT giving my baby up!"

"You're making things hard on yourself," her father said sternly. "Let me and your mother take the burden off you."

"I said no! Dad, With Bill, Kanae and Randy right here, we can handle it." Tracy insisted.

Randy tried reasoning with them. "Ah, folks? It's Tracy's decision. She's been doing her studies and working a cleaning business. Bill has bought all the baby furniture and supplies. Besides, if they need help, we'll help them."

Tracy's mother eyed him. "You and that … freak of a girlfriend you got?"

"Excuse me?" Kanae asked in a heavy tone.

Waving her arm, Tracy's mother said, "Look at that weird hair and what's with those horn things? You look like a devil! Did you get red contacts to complete that devilish look?'

Firmly, Randy said, "You can leave now."

"Not without my daughter's baby!" Tracy's mother said firmly.

"Oh yes, you're leaving now." Kanae stated. "Under your own power, or I'll throw you out!"

"We have grandparents rights!" her father stated.

"Nay in my house ya doan't!" Kanae snapped. "Ya doan like Tracy having her own life, fine, go bitch about it someplace else!"

Tracy smirked. "Mom, Dad, you better go. Kanae will throw you out."

"On your asses," Randy added.

"She wouldn't DARE!"

Upon the mother's words, Kanae grabbed each of them by the back of their collars. "Randy, hold the door open please."

Randy moved and did so. Kanae yanked them around to face the door the gave them both a bum's rush out the door. They were half running when the door slammed shut. Tracy's mother didn't catch the steps right and fell down.

They screamed about being abused, then stomped off down the sidewalk.

Randy turned to hug Kanae. "You're not a freak," he said firmly.

Kanae nodded, she then went in and told Tracy, "I'm sorry they are like that."

"We are too," Bill said as Tracy sniffled. He held Tracy's hand. "And since we have a child now, we probably should get married."

Tracy offered a teary smile. "Thank you all for supporting me."

"It's what friends do," Kanae assured her.

.

It didn't take long for little William to become the 'house baby'. During the day, Bill took care of his son and played with him. Kanae got her studies done and took over so Tracy and Bill had time together. If she was off doing something, Randy helped by baby watching or making dinner. It took all four of them, but baby William had all the care and attention he needed. When Nancy came by, she also gladly helped with William and congratulated Tracy and Bill on such a fine looking child. The only thing Nancy didn't like was diaper changing.

.

Just before Spring Break, Kanae and Randy were introduced to cadavers and seeing the organs of dead people. Another big YUCK! One thing was odd to Kanae as she looked down on the dead woman on the table before her. "Ahh, Professor, what happened ta her breasts?"

Speaking formally, he said, "All breasts are removed so you can see what is underneath them. They have no medical importance."

"Tell that to women who git breast cancer," Kanae replied.

The professor eyed her as other students nodded. "We will discuss that when covering surgical procedures."

"Lame excuse," a guy mumbled.

"Be that as it may!" the professor announced, then had them all begin a routine autopsy. Yup, much more yuck. Stinky too. Dead people didn't smell the best, even with that stuff under their noses.

After that class, Kanae wasn't hungry for lunch. Neither was Randy.

Digging into dead people was the worst classes so far. After pulling organs out to see real innards, they put them back in. Kanae's appetite went downhill fast. She also noted the professor called them cadavers, and didn't know, or would not say what their names had been. She decided the one she and a few others were working on, was named Yani. At the end of class she waved and said, "Bye, Yani." She then made Yani's arm come up and wave back at her.

Seeing the cadaver move, the open mouth stares from other students and the Professor were great. Randy chuckled. Of course Kanae had to go see the Dean again and got scolded for 'playing' with the cadavers.

Since little William wasn't able to walk yet, they spend Spring Break in the house. Tracy got a break in that the extra cleaning involved with most of the students being gone, her crew got to do. Since she wasn't going anywhere, Kanae helped with this. William could crawl on all fours, Randy and Bill tried to coax him up on his feet. William just wasn't ready for that yet.

During the last semester of the year, they got introduced to common health problems and what was done to cure them. Again Kanae was called away to go save a woman's life. She was another one who was old and fragile. The extensive cancer she had, Kanae got out without surgery, and noticed her liver and kidneys was failing. She got out what the doctors could not risk taking out, then left the liver and kidney problems to them.

The good thing was after this year, they had to choose a specific profession to work in. Talking about it, Randy and Kanae decided to be doctors. Later on they would be choosing their specialty. For now, being doctors was enough.

.

Again, for Summer vacation, they stayed in the house to help Tracy with her work and care for William. Kanae called home to let them know she wasn't coming. Her mother told her that Uzuki was wanting to see her and Nana and Jeff were bringing her. Amanda was going to fly them. Kanae agreed to meet them at the airport when they came in, so long as they bought her some more Glen Finnen from the factory.

Kanae was excited with this news. She did want to see Nana, Jeff and Uzuki. She only wondered why Mayu wasn't coming. Kaede explained that Mayu would make it in the next trip, she was managing the Inn while Nana was gone.

Bill had already started making a bedroom in the basement. Nancy was headed out on a trip with her friends, so as long as they hurried up finishing the basement bedroom, they'd have room for them here.

Nana called back later to confirm they were coming and gave Kanae the date. Kanae insisted they stay here at the house instead of getting motel rooms.

In the next few days, Kanae helped Bill finish the bedroom and brought in a good bed for it. Randy did a linen run as well, getting pillows, sheets and blankets for their guests.

Their grades came out and Kanae and Randy were both near the top of the class. They had survived another year of college. Tracy graduated as well, which made them all happy.

On their next shopping trip, Kanae made sure she got steak fries which were the closest thing to the 'chips' they had at home. She also got speedies and fish, and even found a bottle of English style malt vinegar to go with the fish and chips. She also splurged on a shrimp platter for Nana and strawberry ice cream she knew Uzuki liked.

Counting they days until her sisters arrived, Kanae was eager to get in the truck with Randy and go retrieve them from the airport. When their plane came in, Kanae had a 'squeaky, happy' reunion with them. Randy got face plant in Nana's boobs when they hugged, and Jeff got the same, though not as intense from Kanae.

Coming back home, Uzuki tried to tell Kanae about graduation high school but Nana, filled in the details and ran on about things happening with them.

Nana then happily cried, "Kanae, I'm finally gonna have a baby! We just found out a couple weeks ago!"

"That's great, Nana!" Kanae replied quickly before Nana could go on. As usual Nana rattled on the whole way back to the house. Nana still loved to talk. Age had not slowed Nana's mouth down one bit. Kanae could see Uzuki was a little irritated by this. Nana went on to tell Randy about how she couldn't have a baby and was growing too fast, but their relative from another place cured her. She then went on in a stream about how well Mayu was doing at the Inn, and the lunches they made for Tom and Rachel, since they were getting old.

Randy had to wonder if Nana would ever stop talking enough to take a breath.

"Oh!" Nana exclaimed and put an arm around Kanae. "We gotta keep an eye on Gramma too! Both Mom and Nana saw her using her mind hands to help walk! Only a couple times, but Gramma's hair is gittin grayer. Nana has to wonder if Gramma is getting older fore she should, like Nana was."

"You saw this?"

Nana bounced her head in a nod. "Nana did a couple times, so did Mom! Nana knows nothin bout healin people. Maybe next time Kanae comes home, Kanae kin talk ta Gramma bout it."

"Think Gramma's doing too much fer her age?" Kanae asked.

Nana frowned. "Nana doan know. Nana just knows what she sees."

"I help Gramma when I kin," Uzuki cut in. "Nana's right though. Gramma's lookin old."

"Kin Mom help'er?" Kanae asked.

"Mom's been helpin'er," Nana stated. "Nana thinks Gramma needs more help."

"I'll see what I kin do next time I'm home," Kanae promised.

By the time Randy pulled into the driveway, he was sure Nana had to be talked-out. Was he ever wrong. Going inside, Nana saw little William and fawned over him. She managed to keep yacking at Tracy and Bill at the same time. Even little William gazed at her, seeming to be impressed as how much Nana could keep jabbering on.

It was Amanda who went over to Nana and clapped a hand over her mouth. "Nana, Uzuki would also like to greet them too."

Uzuki giggled at her.

Nana looked at her. Amanda took her hand down. Nana said, " Nana's sorry but isn't baby William so cute?"

To let others greet Tracy and her small family, Kanae offered, "Nana, we got a real modern kitchen, wanna see?"

Nana turned to her and nodded. "Nana does!" She went with Kanae, wondering out loud when Kanae was going to have a cute little baby.

"She always run on like that?" Bill asked.

Amanda shrugged. "Most people watch their weight to stay slim. Nana just talks." That got a chuckle from everyone.

"Nana is high energy," Uzuki explained. "It's hard to keep up with her."

In the kitchen, Nana swooned over the appliances Kanae had, the automatic stove even had a clock on it with timers and heat settings for the oven and a 'cook' timer to time anything that was on to cook. After Nana got done happily congratulating Kanae for having such a fine kitchen, she added, "Oh! Nana found out Nana's pregnant too!" she ended in a cheer.

"That's great Nana!" Kanae cheered in return. The bounced in a hug, then Nana went on. "If it's a lass then Nana's gonna name it after the lady who fixed Nana, Diane!"

"But what if it's a boy?"

Nana sighed. "Then it'll be Dan."

"Not Daniel?"

"Nay!" Nana said in a laugh. "Danielle is a lass's name!"

"It's a lad's name too, only spelled differently," Kanae told her.

Nana frowned a bit then asked, "Nay, just Dan. Think that's why your friend Nancy had her sex changed? Being named Nancy, she thought she was supposed ta be a lass?"

Coming into the kitchen, Randy heard her and burst out laughing.

"I think it t'was more than that Nana," Kanae offered with a grin.

Nana frowned briefly. "Did'er parents dress'er like a girl too? They git'er all confused?"

Randy sat down arms on the table, head on his arms, chuckling helplessly.

Kanae grinned at him. "Nana, did ya an Jeff wanna sleep up here or down stairs?"

"There's downstairs? Nana wants'ta see." Nana beamed.

Kanae led Nana out of the kitchen and told her, "There' only one bed room down here, it'll be more private fer ya."

While Kanae took Nana down to the basement, Uzuki smirked at Nana's comments about Nancy, the boy-girl. She watched baby William, beside Tracy. "Ya got a cute lad there, Ya doin all right at school? It's gotta be hard bein a mother and going ta school."

Tracy cast her a smile. "It's a load of work, but if you want things in life, you have to work hard for them."

"Aye, 'tis true. Haven't figured out what I wanna do yet," Uzuki explained. "Mom thinks I kin figure it out later. Workin at the bar wit me sisters is fine fer now. I just wanna do somethin important like Mom, Dad, and Grampa. Even Kanae's gonna be a doctor."

"How many sisters do you have?" Tracy asked.

"I think Nana's the oldest, or Mayu, not sure which is older. Kanae's more my age. Then there was Karen, she died in an auto accident. Thinkin bout Karen now, it almost makes sense why she was bossy. I'twasn't til she died that I found out she was me real mom."

"Your real mom?" Tracy asked eyeing her.

"Aye. Ya see, Kaede adopted us both. Karen had me real young, an so she could keep going ta school she was considered me older sister," Uzuki said with a sigh. "Kinda messed me up when I found out. I mean, all that time I was growin up, never had a clue. When I found out, there was so much I wanted ta say ta her an ask, but she'd died. I never got ta tell her anythin."

"That sounds terrible," Tracy said.

"Aye, for a bit I was mad at Mom an Karen fer not tellin me. Nana and Kanae assured me that Mom was doin what she thought best fer both of us. Ya heard how Nana goes on? I almost wished Nana quit tryin ta console me. Kanae just stressed fer me ta talk ta Mom bout it. I did. I understand, but still feel a bit weird bout it."

Tracy nodded. "I can see why. So you got it straight in your head now?"

"Aye. Gramma helped too. She's really nice." In a complete shift, Uzuki asked, "Is Bill goin ta college too?"

"Bill's more of a mechanic, fixer type. Bill supports us."

"Like my Dad, Kouta. He and Grampa fix things up at home, and Dad's got his own trucking company. He's got trucks runnin all over Scotland. Nana's Husband Jeff works fer'im, fixin trucks. He's got his own garage. Me older Uncle Richie's got a sheep farm." Uzuki then cracked a grin. "He gits picked on fer liking pizza so much."

Tracy chuckled. "He likes pizza that much?"

"Aye. Kanae told'im she's surprised he ain't got pizzas for wheels on his truck. Kanae told Roberta, his girl friend, he might marry her if she git's a pizza necklace."

"How long have they been together?"

"Long as I know, it's always been Richie and Roberta. Fore I was born, I've been told."

"Wow, little bit of lack of commitment there?" Tracy asked.

Seeing Bill, Uzuki loudly said, "Aye! If Lads are serious bout their Lass, they should marry'em!"

Bill looked at Uzuki. Tracy laughed. "Good point!" she said with a grin.

.

While Nana had a good time jabbering with Kanae and housemates, Nancy and her friends had gone to a campground for a 'getting in touch with your inner you and connect with your friends spiritually' ceremony lead by a real Indian 'Shaman' Named Coltek. He even wore a buckskin shirt with the strings hanging off the seams of the arms, and wore some kind of Indian disk design around his neck on a string of hide.

The beginning of the ceremony was nice. Coltek talked firmly but softly about everyone has a soul and how they all must care for their soul, just like they cared for their body. Part of that was knowing their feelings completely, and not hiding from them. He held a large cup over the fire and spoke an incantation, then passed the cup around, telling everyone to drink one good gulp.

Nancy took her gulp of the green tea and passed it on. She felt heady that she was in such a holy gathering. Once the tea was passed all the way around, Coltek said, "You must never hide or ignore your true feelings from yourself. Feel them, study them, and know yourself." he then looked at Betty who was to his right. "What is it you truly love. Feel it and speak it."

Betty gazed at him the panned her eyes to look at each of her friends. "Things like this. To share special things with all my friends. Help them when I can, and cry with them if they are sad. Doing things with my friends is fun, but it's the sharing together we do, that I really love."

"Are there any fears or sorrows that you harbor?" he asked.

Betty dreamily eyed him and said, "Only one. I fear of something happening to split us apart. It's not a constant fear, only one that I hope will never happen."

Claire was next. Like Betty, she loved all her friends and the fact they were all together. When asked about her fears or sorrows, she glanced at Nancy. 'There is one I fear now that I know he is around. A horseman of the apocalypse, Death. My sorrow is that a friend I know has met him, and had to endure his presence."

Coltek eyed her. "Who is it who has met death? Someone here?"

Nancy spoke up and said, "His name is Methos, and I have been assured he will not bother us."

Coltek looked squarely at Nancy. "You have met Methos?"

Nancy didn't want to say, but this was a soul baring meeting. She had to tell the truth here. "I did. At the time, I did not know who he was. He used another name. It was very hard to discover what he was like. He was Death on a white horse, just as the bible describes. I read the bible, it has gotten something wrong. Armageddon and the Apocalypse are two separate events. The Apocalypse is an ancient event now, Armageddon is yet to happen. Yes, Methos was death on horseback." She sniffled and said in a hollow tone, "He didn't kill for justice, revenge, or hate. He killed tens of thousands because he liked it. There was something he wanted me to do. Things he told me, that I didn't want to believe. I was very upset, and finally talked to Kanae about it. She … I didn't want to give her details, but she made me. Briefly, I was scared of her too. She calmed me down and told me to forget about all of it. She then went to see him, and after that he told me there was nothing I could do and had me go. I don't know what Kanae did, but she made him leave me alone."

Blinking tears out of her eyes, Nancy looked at Coltek and said, It's not that I fear Methos, I know Kanae will keep him away from me. I fear for others that that he may decide to kill just for fun." In a begging tone, she said, "The great sorrow I have is for Kanae. I know she is a wonderful, loving person. She does her best to help others and she has saved many lives. But some of the things she must do to keep others safe is … brutal." Nancy sobbed again. "Someone as sweet as she is shouldn't be saddled with having to do that! She should be allowed to just be a good doctor like she wants to be!"

Coltek was eyeing her. "Nancy," he asked softly. "Who are Kanae's parents?"

Stiffing her sobbing, Nancy said, "Kouta and Kaede Kikumura."

"I see," he said as he looked into the fire. "Do you know Kaede's father and mother?"

Nancy nodded, spilled a couple tears from her cheek. "I do. Duncan and Inari McLeod."

Seeing Coltek nod slightly, Ellen asked, "Coltek, sir? Do you know them?"

"I do, they are powerful warriors for good. Kanae seems to be following in their footsteps." Coltek said.

"Are they immortal?" Nancy asked.

Coltak chuckled. "They may live for a very long time, but nothing is immortal, not even the heavens themselves." He then asked, "Nancy, since it has become your turn, what are the things you love and enjoy?"

"As was said, Having my friends with me, here like this, I love." Nancy said. She paused then added, "And even though I'll probably never tell her, I really love Kanae too."

Ellen hugged Nancy. "We know you do."

.

Two days after her sisters came to visit, Kanae got an urgent call to come to an address paramedics had arrived at. The request was come as fast as possible.

Of course, Nana wanted to come. Kaede also knew summertime traffic was pretty heavy. Kanae knew where the street was and how the numbers ran. "Nana, we're gonna roof jump!" Kanae told her.

"Ready!" Nana announced.

Kanae ran out of the house and jumped across the street onto the neighbor's roof. Nana followed. Instead of following streets, Kanae and Nana crossed back yards to go directly to the right street. Jumping higher on her last leap. Kanae saw the flashing lights on two ambulances and a police car that was there to control traffic. Flying to the house, Kanae saw the paramedics in the back yard of the house by a fallen tree. Under the tree, a guy lay passed out.

Kanae landed and asked, "He's still alive?" Nana landed behind her.

One of the paramedics turned and said, "He, but he's crushed just above his hips. We can't move him and it's going to take a while for the fire department to get here with a chainsaw. Even then, we're afraid taking the tree off him will kill him."

Kanae walked around, stepping over the tree to get by the man's head. Yes, what was on him was a thick branch that was forcing his body into the ground. Most likely, he was already all but crushed in half. Releasing the pressure would let him bleed freely, possibly bleed out before the tree was completely moved off him.

Seeing the man, Nana clapped her hand to her mouth and cried, "What're we gonna do!"

Kanae put a hand on Nana's shoulder. "Calm down. We take it one step at a time. We can't let him bleed. Right now, that branch is stopping him from bleeding to death. Moving that branch any way but straight up might finish tearing him in half. Right now, Nana, make sure no one moves that tree until I close off all his arteries in the area. OK?"

Nana nodded, then yelled, "Nobody more that tree at all until Kanae says so!"

Kanae got down on her hands and knees by the man. He was knocked out, but he was still breathing roughly and his heart was still going. Knowing were blood vessels ran, Kanae closed off his arteries to his abdomen, then got his major veins pinched off as well.

"Can you save him?" a woman cried.

"Kanae is trying, stay back!" Nana cried in return, holding her hand up in a stop gesture.

"Medics, do you have his blood type?" Kanae asked loudly.

A short discussion, then one called, "O negative!"

"Do you have any?" Kanae asked.

"Yes, one pint!"

"Bring it over by me. Don't step on the tree!" Kanae called.

Hearing a mower sized engine, Nana's eyes grew wide. "No! Doan use that, take it back!"

"We have to move that tree!" A man yelled.

"Not before Kanae says to!" Nana yelled.

Feeling into the man, Kanae felt his spine. It was broken. Damn!

The lead medic came over with a pint of blood, hose and needle for transfusion. Kanae looked at him and said, "His spine's broken, intestines are ripped. I have his major blood vessels and as many minors ones closed off as I can. He needs oxygen and as soon as this tree is lifted, he'll need a transfusion." Kanae paused to think of the best way to do this. "Get on his other side and get the transfusion and Oxygen ready. This is going to be tricky. Nana, when we're ready, I need you to lift that tree straight up, no side to side movement. Can you do that? I got all my hands inside him."

Nana took on a firm face. "Nana will!"

"After the tree is off him, I'm going go pull him out. It won't be fast. If I try to hurry I just might rip him in half, so you're going to have to hold it off him for a minute or two."

"Shouldn't we wait for a crane?" the medic asked.

"NO, any movement to either side or twisting may also rip him apart. This is going to be tricky enough just getting the tree straight up off him. There's no way to put a stretcher under him, his middle is partway into the ground."

"Damn," the man breathed.

"Like I said, this is going to be tricky." Kanae told him. "Let me know when you're ready." Kanae snaked a hand as far under him as she could.

The medic got the IV in, another held the bag up, and a third put an oxygen mask on the man. "We're ready."

"Nana, lift!"

The tree lifted up. Kanae got her had under the man's ruined back, and got all of him up out to the ground fairly intact. She anchored mind hands into the tops of his leg bones, then lifted him and slowly pulled him out.

"This is heavy!" Nana cried.

"Hold it up for another minute!" Kaede cried. She got the man out. Behind them was stretcher. Once the man was clear, Kanae called, "OK Nana he's out!"

The tree came back down with a solid thump in the ground they all felt.

With the man on the stretcher now, a couple medics moved to tie him in place. "No! Not yet! Back off!" Kanae snapped.

"We need to get him to the hospital!" A female medic yelled.

Kanae barked, "He won't live long enough to get there unless you let me finish!"

"He's all but crushed in half," another medic said weakly.

Bent over the man, Kanae said, "Yes. Unless I reconnect his blood vessels and repair his backbone, he can't be moved. I can sense he pretty much lost one kidney. The other doesn't feel nearly as bad. Just … let me finish before you try to move him."

"Can I help Kanae?" Nana asked.

"Not with this. Just keep everyone we don't need right here, back. Have to concentrate…"

Nana got it. "Nobody bother Kanae, let'er work." she stated.

The man grunted and twitched a leg. Soon the other leg twitched. An erection showed in his pants, then slowly went down. Kanae was beginning to sweat. Finally, she let out a breath and collapsed to the side. "Did as much as I could," she panted. "His spine and most blood vessels'r back tagether. Ya kin take-im now."

The medics did, strapping him in place and moved him away. Kanae collapsed in place.

"Kanae!" Nana cried and knelt down by her.

Weakly, Kanae said, "I'm OK. Just really tired." She lifted a hand up. Nana gently pulled Kanae to her feet, putting Kanae's arm over her back.

"Nana will git Kanae back home." Nana shifted Kanae to hold her on her back. Once Nana was sure Kanae had a hold around her neck with her arms, she lifted Kanae's legs and carried her.

A teenage boy from the house and a neighbor man came up to Nana and offered to help.

"Thankya, but Nana's got'er." Nana told them. Kanae passed out as Nana talked to people.
