Sailor Moon was originally created by Naoko Takeuchi, while Golden Hawk was created by me, although his secret identity was created by Jerry and Sharon Logue. This series takes place in a real place, Orange County, California, during the 1980s. While I strive to make this series as accurate as possible, I have made some changes for artistic purposes.
Meet Serena Campbell, a typical all-AmJasonan girl. Blonde hair, blue eyes, a little on the short side. She's very pretty, even though she sometimes thinks her nose is a little small for her face, and she sometimes wishes she was a couple inches taller. She has family and friends, people who love her, and people she loves. She sort of somewhat had a boyfriend, well, he's a boy, and he's her friend. And now, he's her boyfriend for real. Now, the team is fully assembled, and they have a headquarters. More importantly, their ally Golden Hawk has revealed another of his powers, one which will help them keep their identities secret...
CHAPTER 9: THE TRUE ENEMY REVEALED
FULLERTON, CALIFORNIA
JULY 19, 1986
11:00 AM
"Nice of you to finally join us," Lissa King said, as Jerry Logue entered the converted fallout shelter the Sailor Soldiers were using as a headquarters. As he entered, he put a Tony Hawk skateboard in the corner of the room.
"You realize you could have spent the night," Rae Hinkley said. "I mean, with your powers, my parents would never have guessed in a million years I had a boy down here last night."
"No thanks," Jerry said. "Girls usually don't invite boys like me to sleepovers. Besides, I had better things to do last night than let one of you paint my toenails."
"Oh yeah, that's all us girls do at sleepovers," Amy Anderson said.
"Either your toenails are naturally that color and I've just never noticed before, or you had them painted last night," Jerry said, looking at Amy's bare feet.
"But that's not all we do at these things," Serena Campbell said.
"We also talked about boys and ate some ice cream," Mina Nani said.
"I really wish you could have been there," Artemis, Mina's cat, said. "It would have been nice to have another guy to talk to."
"Great," Jerry said. "Now that I'm starting to get used to the idea of one talking cat on the team."
"Anyone mind if we get this meeting going?" Serena asked.
"I have everything shielded," Jerry said. "Nobody will see or hear anything other than what I want them to see or hear."
"Good," Rae said. "Especially since I'm not supposed to have any boys down here in the first place."
"Your parents will never know I was here," Jerry said.
"Won't they see the Flying Dutchman and put two and two together?" Amy asked.
"That's why I didn't drive," Jerry said. "It's easier to hide a skateboard."
"Smart," Lissa said.
"Anyways," Jerry said, "Let's get down to brass tax. My gut's telling me this Draevyn character we encountered yesterday isn't our real enemy."
"It's always good to listen to your gut," the black half of Astanayax said, as a hologram of them appeared in the room.
"It's the one thing that will never steer you wrong," the white half added.
"So Draevyn isn't the real enemy," Jerry said.
"No," both halves of Astanayax said in unison. "The real enemy would be his twin sister, Morrigan."
"Who?" Serena asked.
"Morrigan," Luna said, visibly shaking. "That's one name I hoped I would never hear again."
"If we knew who she is," Amy said.
"Morrigan and Draevyn are twins from our home world," both halves of Astanayax said in unison.
"Back up a bit here," Jerry said. "I thought on your planet, twins were always joined, like Siamese twins."
"And everyone on our planet is a twin," the white half of Astanayax said. "So everyone is a Siamese twin."
"But that doesn't explain why this Draevyn wasn't joined to this Morrigan person," Rae said.
"Because Draevyn and Morrigan are the worst criminals our planet has ever seen," both halves of Astanayax said in unison. "For personal gain, they deliberately caused the deaths of 10% of the population, and nearly caused the other 90% to be enslaved."
"That still doesn't explain anything," Jerry said.
"On our planet," the black half of Astanayax said, "to be separated from one's twin is a fate worse than death."
"And since they were convicted of the worst crime in our planet's history," the white half added, "it was felt they should live with a constant reminder of their shame."
"So they were separated," Jerry said. "The physical bond that joined them to one another was severed. I have one question. Why?"
"Because if the physical bond between twins is severed," the black half of Astanayax said, to which her sister added "When they die, they will not be allowed to enter the Kingdom of Eternal Paradise."
"So you separated them so they can't get into Heaven when they die," Serena said. "Makes perfect sense to me."
"But that doesn't explain what they want with Earth," Jerry said.
"Because Astanayax is the magistrate who ordered their separation," Artemis said.
"And the Solar System Earth belongs to is under our protection," both halves of Astanayax said.
"And I don't know about any of y'all," Jerry said, "but I personally would love to escort both of them to the gates of Hell."
"That's the spirit," Luna said.
"Anyways," Jerry said, "I gotta meet my mom for lunch at Bob's Big Boy, and Serena, she said you're invited."
"Great," Serena said. "I have Peggy Sue parked right out front."
"Ahem," Rae said.
"What?" Jerry asked.
"What are you going to do about that?" Rae asked, pointing to Jerry's skateboard. "I realize you have this place shielded, but if they come down here and see it, they're going to know I had a boy down here, and they're going to flip."
"Got it covered," Jerry said, shooting a beam of energy from his hand at the skateboard, which disappeared into nothing. "Don't worry, I'm just storing it in the dimension I get my powers from."
"Why do I have a sinking sensation you have powers and abilities none of us know about?" Rae asked.
"If it makes any of you feel any better," Jerry said, "I don't yet know all my powers and abilities, and I don't think I ever will."
"You aren't going to need your car right now, are you?" Serena asked, a few minutes later.
"You're coming back after lunch anyways," Jerry said. "If I decide to spend the night at my mom's, I can just walk home from your house and pick up the Dutchman."
Later on, Jerry and Serena met up with Sharon and Debbie, Jerry's mom and sister, along with his cousins James and Jennie, at Bob's Big Boy in La Habra. Jerry got a Big Boy Combo, with 1000 island on his salad(with extra 1000 island for his burger), and a chocolate shake with no whipped cream, while Serena got a Big Boy Combo, with ranch on her salad, and a chocolate shake. After lunch, Jerry and Serena went bowling, at the 300 Bowl, on Whittier Boulevard. As they finished up their games, just as they left the alley, Jerry's communicator went off. "Big Bird here," he said.
"Popoki Ke'oke'o here," Artemis said. "Draevyn's been spotted at El Centro Park."
"Graceland and I are right up the street from there," Jerry said, adjusting something on his watch. "I just turned on my homing beacon, gather the troops, have them meet us there."
"Don't tell me," Serena said.
"Yup," Jerry said, grabbing a couple smoke pellets. "Duty calls."
"Pretty Soldier of the Moon, Make-Up!"
Jerry tossed the smoke pellets to the ground, surrounding himself and Serena with gold smoke. When the smoke cleared, both of them were gone, reappearing at El Centro Park, over where the younger children's playground was. As they appeared in the park, they were joined by the other Sailor Soldiers, and encountered Draevyn. "How can you be alive?" Draevyn said. "My plan was foolproof."
"There was one little detail you didn't anticipate," Golden Hawk said.
"And what would that be?" Draevyn asked.
"Me," Sailor Venus said.
"A word of advice," Golden Hawk said. "Next time you try to kill someone, try sticking around to make sure they actually die."
"I'll remember that for next time," Draevyn said, sarcastically.
As Golden Hawk and Draevyn were arguing, a black haired woman in a strapless evening gown appeared. Even though he could sense the evil within her, Golden Hawk noticed she had a sort of quiet elegance about her. "And who might you be?" Golden Hawk asked.
"I am Morrigan," the woman said. "And who are you?"
"I am the Soldier of Love and Justice," Sailor Moon said. "I am Sailor Moon, and in the name of the Moon, I'll punish you!"
"I am the Soldier of Love and Wisdom," Sailor Mercury said. "I am Sailor Mercury, and in the name of Mercury, Douse yourself in water and repent!"
"I am the Soldier of Love and Passion," Sailor Mars said. "I am Sailor Mars, and in the name of Mars, I'll chastise you!"
"I am the Soldier of Love and Courage," Sailor Jupiter said. "I am Sailor Jupiter, and in the name of Jupiter, I'll fill you so full of regret, it'll leave you numb!"
"And I am the Soldier of Love and Beauty," Sailor Venus said. "I am Sailor Venus, and in the name of Venus, I'll castigate you with love!"
"Allow me to introduce myself," Golden Hawk said, going up to Morrigan ,and cranking the charm up to 11. He bowed to her, and even kissed her hand. "I am the wicked cool suburban vigilante of 1986, otherwise known as Golden Hawk. And miss Morrigan, it would be my personal honor to escort you straight to the gates of Hell!"
"One thing about our friend here," Sailor Mercury said. "He can really be one charming bastard."
"He does have style," Sailor Moon said. "No wonder I love him."
"You'll pay for insulting my beloved sister," Draevyn said.
"You mind if I use large denominations?" Golden Hawk asked. "Unfortunately, right now, I'm not carrying anything smaller than a fifty."
"That's not what I meant," Draevyn said, forming a laser sword with a red blade from thin air.
"I was hoping it would come to this," Golden Hawk said, transforming his staff into the hilt of a laser sword of his own. He activated it, and as it hummed to life, it emitted a green blade.
Draevyn struck first, and Golden Hawk easily parried his attack. The two of them engaged in combat. This was a fight to the death, no quarter asked, no quarter given. Draevyn had an early advantage, from his experience, but Golden Hawk's aggressiveness more than made up for it. After nearly an hour of combat, Golden Hawk managed to draw first blood, cutting Draevyn on the face, nearly taking out his left eye, but still leaving a scar. "Much as I hate to admit it," Draevyn said, "you have proven to be a most formidable foe. We will meet again."
"Come back and finish this, you coward!" Golden Hawk said, as Draevyn disappeared.
"Maybe it'll be me personally escorting you to the gates of Hell," Morrigan said. "But for now, I think I'll take a cue from my beloved brother and leave to fight another day."
"Come back and fight!" Sailor Moon said, as Morrigan disappeared.
Later that evening, the girls met up at the Bunker(the nickname Rae gave to their shelter). As they met up, a holographic image of Jerry appeared in the room. "I don't think I want to fight this Draevyn character anymore," he said. "I give him one little scratch, and he runs off like a damn pussy."
"Holy crap on a cracker," Serena said. "What the hell's going on here?"
"I sent a projection of myself," Jerry said. "Don't worry, I still have the Bunker shielded, so nobody can see or hear anything other than what I want them to see or hear."
"But why send a projection of yourself?" Amy asked.
"Out of respect for Rae's parents," Jerry said. "I realize they told her she's not allowed to have any boys down here, this way, I can attend meetings without actually being there. So technically, there isn't a boy down here at all."
"I didn't know you could do that," Rae said.
"Neither did I, until about 20 minutes ago," Jerry said. "I just had a little talk with Astanayax, they told me that was one of my powers."
"So where exactly are you?" Amy asked.
"My mom's house," Jerry said.
"What are you doing there?" Lissa asked.
"Going to Disneyland tomorrow," Jerry said.
"Wish I could come with you," Serena said. "Unfortunately, I have that wedding to go to tomorrow."
"I thought people usually got married on Saturdays," Jerry said. "Why is your cousin getting married on a Sunday, anyways?"
"A couple reasons," Serena said. "First off, it's a tradition in his fiancee's family to get married on Sunday. Second, tomorrow's the anniversary of the day the two of them first met."
