It's rare to see Nikolai in a state of relaxed repose, without the strain of fatigue or pain pinching the lines around his eyes. He shouldn't have survived the nichevo'ya tearing its way out of his body. Alina shouldn't have been able to save him with her summoning. But he had, and she did, though it left him marked.
