I am happy to introduce my third story 'The Disappearing Hero'. This will be based on Kōhei Horikoshi's 僕のヒーローアカデミア or Boku no Hīrō Akademia or My Hero Academia with my OC Lewis Lateo Fleetwood. Lewis is an aspiring hero with a quirk that no other person has written about on this sight (to my knowledge anyway. I've done a lot of google searches). This is also the first time writing with Japanese characters so please point out anything I'm doing wrong. The 'My Hero Academia' franchise belong to their respected owners. Hope you enjoy.

The Disappearing Hero

Chapter 1: The New Normal

The world used to be normal. With normal people, living normal lives, working normal jobs, all in a normal society. However, that was the old normal. That was before a newly born baby girl in China started to glow and become the first person to develop what would be known as a quirk. Suddenly, other people around the world started to develop super powers from super strength, flying, breathing fire, you name it. And thus the era of the old normal had come to end.

What didn't end was human cruelty. Fuelled by unlimited power, thieves, murderers and criminals used their quirks to take advantage on the weak. For many years chaos reigned and the world was in crisis. That was until the heroes appeared. Encouraged by the need for justice, order and, most of all, peace; heroes fought evil and protected those who cannot defend themselves. And with that a new society was formed. A society of heroes supported by governments around the world who maintained stability and made sure to never return to the dark times. One of these heroes, was All Might, the most prestigious hero in the world. He was the embodiment of greatness of the hero society and the symbol of peace.

Now there is a new normal. It has been many decades since the end of the old normal and 80% of the world's population now have a quirk of some sort. Heroes are like celebrities who competed for public attention by tackling crime. The more attention they received, the larger the support by governments. I never said it was a perfect society. Wannabe heroes need to receive a licence from the government and in order to achieve that; they need to go to a hero school. There are many hero schools around, but one of the greatest is a hero school in Japan called UA High. Which is where are hero is hoping to get into.

Aeroplane en route to Central Japan Airport

Lewis Lateo Fleetwood was bored.

He had read all his books, done every crossword and sudoku in his activity book, watched all the in-flight movies until his eyes were sore and played twenty seven games of solitaire. He wasn't used to sitting still for long periods of time.

He listened to his uncle's warning for it being a long flight and thought he packed accordingly.

Clearly not.

Lewis was a 14 year old boy from Oxford, England with black wavy hair with a fringe. He had green eyes hidden behind thick rimmed square glasses. He was rather tall for his age standing at about six foot and had an athletic build from years of gymnastics. He wore a pair of black jeans and a white buttoned shirt with tigers on.

If you were to summarise Lewis to one word it would be 'shy'. He didn't really have any friends growing up in Oxford and the ones he did have were more people he occasionally talked to. He spent most of his time reading on tree branches or practicing his gymnastics or talking to cats, a habit he is trying to break.

He looked out of the plane window looking at the blue Pacific Ocean sprawled beneath him.

He was originally pleased with getting a window seat. That was until two hours into the flight when he needed to use the toilet and had to ask the two rather agitated passengers to move for him. He would of used his quirk, but that would of cause more problems.

If you told Lewis that he was going on a plane to the other side of world in order to apply for UA High in order to become a hero a year ago... well he wouldn't laugh in your face, but probably give an awkward smile and a say small thank you before walking away from you.

He remembered the day that this all started.

-Flashback two months ago-

Lewis' bedroom

Lewis was sat on his bed. He sighed as he looked down at the letter in his hands.

Another failed attempt in getting into another hero school.

It wasn't as if he wasn't smart enough to pass the written exams, in fact he aced them, but most schools tend to judge pupils by the quirks. After reviewing what his quirk was and it's limitations they deemed it too 'impractical' without seeing it in action.

He tried almost every hero school in the UK and Northern Europe from the London Institute for Heroic Studies, to the Edinburgh School of Heroism, to the Université Des Études De Héros in Paris. Their letters were always sickly polite when rejecting his application.

He heard the front door open, signifying his uncle has returned from work, and, using his quirk flicked his hand with the letter in making the letter vanish into thin air. He then picked up his history magazine to pretend he was reading that all along. He heard the creaking of the stairs and then a gentle knock on the door.

"Come in," Lewis called out, hoping he wouldn't asked about the ladder.

Opening the door and ducking under the door frame was his uncle.

People are often struck with terror when seeing Inspector Xaphan Timere for the first time and every time after that. This is because of the fact that he was a muscular ten foot tall man with black hair in a crew cut and an always present evil smirk showing off his pointed teeth. His eyes were the worst, they looked like two balls of flames had embedded into the man's skull which stared into your very soul and make you confess to every sin you had committed. He also always wore a black business suit which had to be tailored made.

His quirk was equally as horrifying:

Intimidate: can induce terror into the hearts of people and can reduce the toughest of criminals to tears.

Honestly he looked more like a villain or a demon from the pits of hell than a inspector of the Metropolitan Police service. His quirk proves useful during interrogations in making criminals confess to crimes. Lewis had to make sure when he was out in public with his uncle to make sure he didn't look in distress. At six different occasions he had been 'rescued' by heroes thinking his uncle was holding him hostage.

They didn't make the same mistake twice

However, to Lewis he was just his uncle and not at all scared of him. In fact Xaphan is very kind and lovely person and would often bake or tend to his herb garden on the weekends.

"Hey boyo, did you get a letter?" Xaphan asked in his usual deep gravelly voice as he sat on Lewis' bed making it freak under his weight.

"Err no, I don't think so. Maybe next week," Lewis lied, hoping his uncle would believe him.

Xaphan gave him a look to let Lewis know he can see though his lie.

Lewis decided to change the subject.

"So-so-so how was work?" Lewis asked not looking his uncle in the eye.

"Lewis," Xaphan warned.

Lewis sighed and flicked his wrist making the letter reappear again. He gave the letter to his uncle.

Xaphan read the letter and growled at what it said. He turned to his disheartened nephew and gave a kind smile. Well... a kind smile for him anyway.

"You shouldn't listen to those idiots. What do they know," he comforted.

"I know, I know, but that's the last one I've applied to. Maybe I should give up. I always wanted to open up an antique bookshop. You know the ones which smell like old books and they all have varying prices and there would be a cat or two or three-" Lewis started to ramble.

"You are not giving up! Not after all those hours of training, Lewis!" Xaphan shouted loudly making Lewis jump out of his train of thought.

"Then what else am I going to do, then!" Lewis shouted back.

Xaphan's smirk grew wider.

"Luckily, you have something that everybody else doesn't," Xaphan said cryptically.

"Which is?" Lewis asked unsure where this going.

"An amazing uncle!" Xaphan bellowed making Lewis to shush him for being too loud.

"When I was at work yesterday, I decided to check in on a old friend of mine back when I was working in Japan," Xaphan explained.

Xaphan used to live and work for the police force in Japan, before having to return to England after Lewis's parents were killed in a villain attack. It's something that they both didn't like to bring up.

"His name is Tsukauchi Naomasa and he is a detective for the Musutafu police force," Xaphan continued, "and I was talking about you and how you were struggling to find a hero school."

"Hey!" Lewis shouted, insulted that his uncle was talking about his problems to a random person.

Xaphan ignored him.

"And he then mentioned how he knew the principle of UA High and said he could pass on a copy of your application to him," Lewis eyes widened at what his uncle said.

'Surely he didn't' Lewis thought in dread.

"So I sent him a copy and guess what," Xaphan said with glee.

"Hold on a mome-" Lewis tried to say.

"The principle accepted. Apparently, the principle thought you had an interesting quirk and invited you to the entrance exam as a transfer student! Isn't that grea-," he turned to face where Lewis was, only to see an empty bed.

He sighed and walked towards Lewis's bedroom window, opening it, and looked up at the roof.

"Lewis get down before you fall," Xaphan cried up at the roof.

"That's not possible and you know it," a disembodied voice called back.

"Just come down and we can talk about it," Xaphan pleaded.

"UA is the most prestigious school in the world," Lewis said, but not from the roof. Xaphan turned towards the voice to see Lewis had returned to his bed, "there will be many more students who are better then me and I've never been outside of England before and Japan is on the other side of the world. I... I just don't think I can do it," Lewis admitted sadly.

Xaphan sat on Lewis bed again, next to the depressed boy.

"Lewis do you remember when you decided you wanted to become a hero?" Xaphan asked.

Lewis didn't reply and just stared at his bedroom floor.

"It was just after your parents, my sister and brother in law, passed away and I lost you at the funeral. I found you sitting by your parents grave and hearing you promise to your parents. It wasn't a declaration of revenge against the villain nor were you regretting for not being there to save them. I've seen many children in the same circumstances go down those two paths who either became villains themselves or drank themselves to death. But not you. You sweared that no one else should suffer like you have. You wanted to make sure that everybody was happy with lives and not live misery. You can do this Lewis. You are more then capable of going to UA. You just need to... ok this may sound cliché, but it's nevertheless true. You just need to believe in yourself," Xaphan told his nephew.

Lewis had his head down during the entire speech, but eventually he looked up and gave a determined smile.

"Alright, I'll do it," Lewis declared boldly.

Xaphan smiled proudly, "That's the spirit."

"Do I have to make friends, though?" Lewis asked.

Xaphan lost his proud smile.

"Yes," he told him sternly.

"Alright, alright. I'll try," Lewis promised.

Xaphan's frown deepened.

"I mean I will. Definitely," Lewis assured him nervously.

"Good lad, Now that's all over, I fancy a curry. Get your coat on we're going to celebrate," he said getting up and walking out the door.

Lewis smiled for a moment before his face became concerned.

"Wait a minute. I don't speak Japanese," he called out.

A book flew towards him from outside his door and he caught it. He looked down to see the book titled:

'Japanese: For Beginners'

"If you could learn Morse Code when you were six, you can learn Japanese. Now hurry up I'm hungry," Xaphan shouted from the bottom of the stairs.

-End Flashback-

Since then Lewis had spent the last two months learning Japanese and Japan itself. It was tough considering English and Japanese use very different language structures, but Lewis had a knack for languages and was confidently fluent.

Well he assumed, he hasn't talked to anybody in Japanese other then his uncle yet.

He was supposed to meet his uncle's friend Detective Tsukauchi Naomasa at the airport who would drive him to his uncle's old house in Musutafu. Lewis didn't know his uncle still had a house as he had been away for almost six years.

Lewis looked at the screen displaying how long till the flight is over.

'Two hours left,' he thought wearily.

He took out his phone and inserted the earphones into his ears. He opened his music app and scrolled through his albums. He clicked on his 70s playlist and the first song that came on was Christie's 'Yellow River'.

He then took a nap while he waited for his destination.

Central Japan Airport

Lewis walked out of the corridor and into the airport's terminal. He looked at the line of people waiting for family members or drivers picking up clients. He spotted a man in his thirties who seemed out of place. He was dressed in a similar attire to a 1920's private eye with his long brown trench coat and a brown fedora over a business suit. He was slightly shorter than him with short black hair. He was also holding a hastily made sign that said 'Lewis Fleetwood' in English.

Lewis assumed that this must be his uncle's friend Detective Tsukauchi. He walked up to the man who spotted him approaching.

"Hello, you must be Fleetwood. It's a pleasure to finally meet you. Your uncle has told me so much about you," Tsukauchi greeted friendly in English with a firm handshake.

"It's a pleasure to meet you too, Detective Tsukauchi. I must thank you for sending my application in. I just wish my uncle told me what was going on," Lewis greeted shyly in Japanese, returning his handshake.

Tsukauchi chuckled slightly, "Yes, he has always been rather rash in decision making. Your Japanese is very good by the way," the older man complimented.

"Mostly, I still get mixed up with honourifics," Lewis admitted, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.

"I'm sure you'll get used to it. Would you like some help with your-," Tsukauchi was about to offer to help carry some of Lewis's luggage to his car when he noticed Lewis only had one medium sized leather suitcase with him.

"Do you not intend stay long?" the detective asked.

Lewis met the man's gaze, "Oh don't worry. It's actually much bigger on the inside," he answered cryptically.

Tsukauchi decided to not question further.

Tsukauchi parked his car in the driveway of a suburban house. The house had two stories and a small garden at the front. Definitely too large for one person. It seemed that nobody has lived here for a while judging by the state the front garden was in and the fading paint on the house front. This didn't deter Lewis though. He was just glad to have a roof over his house.

The drive here was uneventful. Tsukauchi telling him stories from when he and his uncle was both on the force while Lewis listened politely. Lewis was also taking in his surroundings and remembering as much as possible.

Musutafu was quite a large city. Not as large as Tokyo, but big enough for a subway system. A couple of miles from his house on top of a tree covered hill was the H-shaped building of UA. It was much bigger then Lewis was expecting and that did nothing to calm his nerves.

"Welcome to your new home," Tsukauchi looked at the house, "it might need some work though."

"It's fine. It would be like a project," Lewis looked up and down the street, "it's a nice neighbourhood," Lewis observed as they both got out of Tsukauchi's car.

"Yes, there a lot of hero agency's nearby so villains tend to stay away. Also, there is a park nearby for training," Tsukauchi said as they walked towards the front door, "but remember no use of your quirk in public," he reminded sternly.

"Don't worry. I don't want to ruin my chances of getting into UA before I even get there," he reassured the detective.

"Good," he said giving Lewis the house keys and a business card,"I must get going. If you need anything call that number, but only for emergencies. It's nice to finally meet you Lewis. Good luck at your entrance exam," he said walking towards his car waving goodbye.

"Thank you, good bye," Lewis waved back.

He watched Tsukauchi drive away before unlocking and entering his house. He looked around the house. It looked cosy and there were furniture already there, but there was still a thick layer of dust covering almost everything.

He laid his suitcase down on the floor and reached into it. Instead of stopping, Lewis kept on reaching in until he was shoulder deep into the seemingly small suitcase. He then pulled out a feather duster and placed it next to the suitcase. He then reached in again and pulled out a large vacuum cleaner.

"Right. Clean, unpack and shop for dinner," he listed the things he will need to do out loud.

Lewis walked out the automatic doors of his local supermarket clutching several bags full of shopping he would need for the week.

After unpacking he decided to walk around the neighbourhood and learn its layout. He walked through the pleasant park, the through local shopping district and then to the supermarket.

Lewis checked his surroundings before putting his bags down. He checked his surroundings again before flicking his hand and making a black disk appear. He smacked the base of the disk and the centre part extend to reveal it wasn't a disk, but a black top hat. Checking that the coast is clear again he placed his shopping bags one at a time into his hat. Miraculously, all the bags fit and when he was done he collapsed the hat into its disk form and made it disappear with a flick of his hand. Now he didn't have to carry his heavy shopping anymore.

He headed back to his home listening to his music. He came up to a busy road and waited at the crossing. 'Hold Me Now' by the Thompson Twins was playing and he was bobbing his head to the beat. That's when he noticed something down the street.

Two women, one with brown hair with small deer like antlers poking out of it and the other with blond hair and porcelain white skin, were chatting a few meters down the street. A girl about four or five, who Lewis assumed was the brown haired woman's daughter judging by the small antlers growing out of her head, was bouncing a ball up and down waiting for her mother to finish. Nothing seemed odd about the situation, but Lewis still kept an eye out. That's when the girl's ball hit an odd angle and ended bouncing in to the street. The girl tried to get her mother's attention, but she was too busy so she, to Lewis' horror, ran into the street.

Everything seemed to slow down. The girl retrieving her ball, the van coming towards her, the startled screams of pedestrians. Nobody was near enough to stop the tragedy.

The girl looked up in terror as the van came towards her.

That's when she felt somebody wrap their arms around her and lift her out of the way. She couldn't help but think how anybody could get their in time. Her mother or her friend were a couple of feet behind judging by their terrified screams and nobody was near enough to get there in time.

Lewis jumped back and landed on his back on the pavement with the girl in his arms. He sat up and placed the stunned girl on the pavement.

"Are you al- I mean. Are you alright?" he asked, correcting himself half way through.

She didn't answer as the girl's mother wrapped her in a tight hug, crying into her hair.

You may be wondering how Lewis was able to get there so quickly. Lewis's quirk is:

Disappear: He is able to teleport to any place he has been to in a blink of an eye without serious repercussions. He is also able to teleport objects and create portals within enclosed spaces like a suitcase or a hat. However, he can only do this as long no living creature is looking at him which includes through live recordings. He also had to know where he was teleporting from.

Most schools were eager for somebody who could teleport, but were put off by the fact that he can only do it when no one is looking and the fact he had to see where he was teleporting in person.

The mother thanked him by bowing repetitively while still crying. Lewis, being the awkward foreigner, didn't know what to do with her bowing and so he waved it off sheepishly.

"It's quite alright, madam. You really don't have to thank me. I'm just glad she's safe and all," he said humbly.

That's when he noticed the sounds of clapping and cheers. He turned around to see a crowd has gathered and they were congratulating him.

'Well this is a first,' Lewis thought, feeling embaressed as he never really been the centre of attention before.

He felt something wrap around one of his legs. He looked down to see the young girl was hugging him and looking up at him in awe at her saviour. He smile down at her nervously.

'I probably need to get used to this' he thought.

This will be the start of Lewis Fleetwood's climb to become a hero.

It will also be the origin story of Lewis the Disappearing Hero, one of the greatest heroes in history.

Hope you enjoy that. This was set a couple of months before the entrance exams and the next chapter will be about his training. Like all of my stories, this will be a harem fanfiction and will feature a female Todoroki, because, honestly, he looks better as a girl. I haven't really decided whether Lewis would be in class 1A or 1B. Both are interesting to write, but if you have a preference please comment whether he should be in 1A or 1B. Thank you.
