A.N: Hello, everyone! This is the first chapter of a commission that was ordered on Tumblr! I hope you like it!
Chapter One: Gala Omega: Dream Edition
"Just one more hour... I think..."
Chiaki yawned as she grabbed her Nintendo Switch, deciding to extend her gaming session for a little longer before going to bed. She was accustomed to pulling all-nighters, but she knew getting rest right now should be one of her priorities. After all, her concentration levels would clearly be higher if she got some rest.
But one more hour couldn't hurt, right?
She turned on the console and booted up her favorite game: Gala Omega. Once the loading screen was gone, she lay in bed under the bedsheets and started a new game. The rows of enemies appeared, and the Ultimate Gamer prepared herself to fight them.
"Feeling... sleepy..."
Her fingers weakly pressed the buttons as she fought the tiredness. Eventually, though, it became too difficult, and after one more shot directed at the enemy ships, Chiaki's eyes closed, and she fell into slumber, sleepily dropping the console at her side.
"Nanami! Fire on all cylinders!"
The Ultimate Gamer gave a fervent nod and fired every canon at her disposal, quickly and methodically taking down the enemy ships. Her aim was perfect, leaving the enemy troops with no choice but to retreat.
Chiaki was currently dreaming, standing as the main character of her game. No joysticks or buttons were involved but 'simply' careful maneuvering as she flew her ship through the air, swiftly avoiding the enemy's never-ending fire.
I won't let anyone hit me! I trained for years specifically for this!
With blazing determination, the sleeping girl kept fighting, taking more and more foes down and allowing her allies to advance with her. Her hands piloted the ship expertly as if she were holding her usual game console.
Meanwhile, the video game aficionado sleepily got out of bed, her eyes still closed and mind still dreaming. Her arms were extended forward (which made her look somewhat like a zombie) as she groggily picked up the Nintendo Switch at her side. She stood up and, not before putting her slippers on, started walking.
"Zzz... Must... defeat the villains..."
Unconsciously, Chiaki headed towards her door room, opening it with one hand as she turned on the handheld console (which had entered sleeping mode since earlier) with the other. She left her room, closing the door behind her and venturing into the dark halls. When the Switch was finally back on, she opened the remastered version of Gala Omega and waited for the game to boot.
In the meantime, she began to stumble down the halls, her mind still playing scenes of her operating the dreamy ship. She easily dodged the next wave of enemy attacks, getting closer and closer to the enemy base.
Once it was fully booted, Chiaki started a new game. A ship similar to the gamer's pin in her hair appeared on the screen, faced with rows of enemies. Mimicking her movements in her dream, the Ultimate Gamer's fingers moved to dodge the assaults and counterattack, allowing her score to increase rapidly.
"Zzz... I... will shoot... them all..."
In a matter of seconds, the first level was behind her. In her dream, Chiaki finally arrived at the enemy base, where new and more powerful enemies were waiting for her. On the screen, this materialized as the second level began. The rays fired at the virtual ship were much faster and more numerous.
Nonetheless, Chiaki made quick work of them, taking down the enemy ships by the dozens without breaking a sweat. Meanwhile, she walked past her classmates' dorm rooms and soon enough arrived at a right turn.
Which she, obviously, missed entirely.
*BONG*
"A-Ack...!" she growled as her ship was hit from the side by an enemy, both in her dream and in the game. Nonetheless, this wasn't enough to wake the girl up as she instead recovered from the unexpected hit. Her primary focus was getting revenge on who had managed to hit her, which was quickly done.
Level two was in the books instants later. Her score was tallied up and had already reached the tens of thousands. Of course, this was still far from her high score of 999900 (the highest possible score in the game), but considering her sleeping state, it was still rather impressive.
"Zzz... Must make sure... not to get... hit again..."
As the next level loaded up, Chiaki resumed walking, finally taking the right turn and heading towards the dorms exit. Her digits were still skillfully nudging the joysticks and pressing the buttons, eliminating rows of foes on the screen.
The dreaming Chiaki and her allies penetrated the enemy base, finding it to be filled with traps and highly-ranked enemy units. With focus, the Ultimate Gamer fired her most powerful missiles at them, taking them out more methodically. It was really time for her unique skills to show.
"Good work, Nanami! Keep going, and we'll take the base without casualties!"
Her captain's talk spurred her on as she got deeper inside the enemy hideout while still unconsciously roaming down the halls. She passed by Nagito's room, then Gundham's, still oblivious to what she was doing. Chiaki got bonus points for finishing a level without damage, and a loading screen appeared.
"Zzz... Take that... got the enemy... Captain... more incoming..."
"Ah, it appears something has woken me up..."
Sonia Nevermind, the Ultimate Princess, rubbed her eyes as she awoke from her slumber. She quickly picked up on a sound coming from right outside her room.
"My curiosity is piqued!" she said to herself as she stood up, dressed in regal pajamas. "Could this be the sound of Gundham's Devas entertaining themselves outside...?"
Putting on her pair of slippers, Sonia walked over to her door and opened it slightly. She peeked outside the room and was greeted by a surprising sight.
"This... is Chiaki, is it not...? And she appears... to be playing her video games...?" Not that this was extremely surprising when said out-of-context. After all, anyone who had spent even just an hour around the Ultimate Gamer knew how addicted she was.
However, this was during the day, even sometimes in class. Not in the middle of the night!
"It is quite unlike our Class Representative to roam around the halls at night in such a way... There is something meaty going on! Or is it 'fishy'...?" Sonia shook her head, reminding herself, "Now is not the time, Sonia! I must investigate and make sure Chiaki doesn't get hurt!"
Unable to hide her excitement, the princess of Novoselic slipped out of her room, unable to imagine what exactly her friend and classmate was up to...
To be continued...
