Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto or One piece. But I do have plans to own a very old Volkswagen Passat 1.9 TDI! That is about as much as I can afford to own, so I doubt I will ever own a billion-dollar franchise.

Summary: While many choose a safe and comfortable life, a daring and adventurous Blonde with a whisker-marked face sought to see and experience the ever-expanding world. With a smile on his face, he embarked on an adventure that would change the world, for better or for worse.

Whisker-marked Pirates

Chapter 1: Prologue

A strong wind was blowing from the east in an unnamed island that day.

The land where Naruto resided in was inhabited by only 25 people and oddly remained unmarked on the maps.

Naruto dedicated himself to his wish of leaving the small island. Every day, no matter the wheather, he built ships over and over again.

Despite the countless failures, the daring blonde never gave up on his ship-building. He didn't have a specific plan in mind. While he did want to meet his parents again or get to his place of birth, an island called 'Konoha,' what he desired the most was an adventure.

The main reason why the boy found himself trapped here in the first place was due to his parents' decision. Apparently, it wasn't safe enough for an 8 year-old kid to be in a ship with pirates who were wanted across the whole world.

This was an ordinary day for the twenty-four civilians living here. However, for two siblings, this was a day of massive change. Whether those changes would be positive or not, only they could decide.

"Don't come crying when you fail today once again, Naruto," Karin teased while eating 'Bassang', a traditional food for a few islands, most of which were now underwater.

Karin was Naruto's cousin, whose parents were also in the same Pirate group called "The nine-tailed pirates," a name which came from Naruto's mother's devil fruit.

After finishing his breakfast, Naruto stood up, and went through the door, before grinning and playfully saying, "I can assure you I'm getting the hell out of here today. My parents are having an adventure of their own, and they aren't sharing it with me? I feel like I've experienced all that this place can offer!"

Karin smiled sheepishly and responded, "Let's make a bet, Naruto. I'll join you on your dumb journey if your ship actually floats. However, if it sinks, as it always does, you'll get a clown make-over by me!"

The cousins both enjoyed doing bets. Well, Karin definitely did as she won it almost every single time.

"Deal," Naruto said, giving his thumbs-ups.

Karin wasn't feeling particularly nervous, but she probably should've been. Every time Naruto built a new ship model, he never brought any supplies or equipment to it.

However, this time he had gethered all sort of fruits, such as pineapples, which were abundant on the island. In addition to that, he had somehow found or made smoked meat, and what seemed to be rum. Karin couldn't fathom where he had acquired the meat and the large amount of bottles.

Not that it mattered much for a 16-year old to drink in such a world, but it was rather unusual since Naruto had never drunk anything besides pineapple juice and water.

However, nothing could've prepared Karin for the sight of Naruto bringing his 'precious' green vest. It was traditionally worn by Ninjas in 'Konoha,' and for whatever reason he felt very proud of having it.

He also had changed his blue shorts that were torn in many areas for some intensely black pants, paired with equally black boots.

'As if,' Karin tried to reassure herself in her thoughts, returning to swinging on the hammock while keeping an eye on what else Naruto would bring to the ship.

Karin really didn't care or wanted to get out of the island. After all, she had received a letter of her parent's imminent death, which occurred in a fight against one of the Admirals whose name they specifically left out of the letter.

(Another 5 hours later)

'The time has finally come,' Naruto thought to himself, wiping the sweat off his face. Finally, he had a chance to live a life. Residing in such a small area for his whole life only strengthen Naruto's wish of seeing the never-ending world!

The ship Naruto built was rather simple. Without any previous knowledge and no books related to ship-building everything came by trial and error. The first ship the Blonde built was a wooden plank with a stick in the middle of it, but it didn't even hold on the deck.

With each failure, he learned just a tiny bit more. However, Naruto didn't fail as much as Karin imagined. The last two ships he built could have sailed quite a few miles or even further, but Naruto decided to keep it a surprise until he can get something capable of withstanding storms and travelling across the seas.

The ship wasn't anything too complex. It was roughly 60 feet in length and had a single mast that Naruto calculated it to stand around 50 feet above the surface.

Despite never hearing or seeing, Naruto had developed something closely resembling a popular ship archetype called "Sloop". However, the sloop Naruto had managed to make had a sail that was triangular, with its longest edge attached to a diagonal yard. This type of sail was typically used on smaller ships since it was very limited in sailing downwind and in strong winds.

As preparations came to an end, Naruto had a few last things to bring to the ship before starting his long awaited dream!

Naruto stepped into what he called a house, but it could be easily described as a shack. There was a chest inside that contained the final equipment they were both left with in the small island.

Minato and Kushina had left Naruto a double-edged sword. Jian, as it was known, was not widely used in 'Konoha,' so Naruto thought it only made this 'gift' even more valuable. The sword was 25 inches in length, and weighted less than 2 pounds, but it was extremely sharp. There was also a scabbard that had some symbols which Naruto couldn't understand, but it looked as if it was some sort of fire related drawings.

Karin's parents had left her a black dagger with peculiary designed dragon on it. For some reason, they also left an eight year-old one small deadly bottle of poison and some pills which when put into liquid dissolves. When used, the person wouldn't be able recall his last day and would feel as if he was extremely drunk.

Naruto quickly took those things to the ship, leaving the chest and the shack wide open for the rest of its entirety.

"Do you think it's really necessary for me to get onto the ship?" Karin asked.

The blonde didn't bother to answer it verbally, as he just looked towards her with a serious expression on his face.

"Okay, okay… Jeez, it's as if you truly believe we're going to sail and leave this place!" she declared.

Upon hearing that, Naruto just smirked and looked back the small island, not showing any trace of sadness at leaving this place.

When Karin finally got herself onto the ship, Naruto quickly raised the anchor by using a mechanical windlass that he had acquired from one of the villagers. Although the area barely qualified as a harbor for small boats, they began to move away from it slowly.

With an incredible speed and cooardination, almost as if he had rehearsed it a million times, Naruto started hoisting the sails. He unfurled them and looked at them with a proud face.

As the ship sailed away more than 15 metres from land, Karin's face turned pale, and she screamed, "I take back my words, Naruto! Can you stop your 'joke' and let me ago!"

Naruto didn't listen to her whinings, as he had a lot on his plate. He tried to get the hang of steering the ship, as he had never done it for longer than a few seconds. The feeling of actually getting away made him feel ecstatic.

Meanwhile, Karin kept screaming at Naruto and pointing to the land they just had left behind them. His ears were completely closed to her whining as he only heard the sound of waves and wind now.

Sadly, the inhabitants of the island had no things such as maps, compasses, and obviously, their parents didn't want them to leave so they left nothing to let Naruto and Karin get out of there either.

Really, the whole plan had a high likelihood of failure, but right now Naruto didn't care. He smelled a great adventure.

(Night)

As Naruto was trying out rum for the first time in his life, Karin came with a tired expression on her face.

"You really did it… And somehow a hundred times better than all the previous attempts," Karin stated as she sat down near Naruto, lying down and resting her head on the wooden deck.

Naruto started laughing like a small, adventurous child before saying, "Don't worry, it won't be that bad. For starters, we might someday find your parents! And if, for whatever reason, they come to that small island that they left us in, I've left off some pieces of paper explaining why we needed to leave and embark on an adventure!"

Karin just put up a fake smile and replied sarcastically, "Right, meeting my parents. I wonder how that would go down."

"Look up, Karin. You can see the sky far better here than on that island, and now we can discover of what those stars have in store for us!" he said to her optimistically.

Karin sighed, and somewhat agreed, "I guess I'll get to do something else besides cooking meals and collecting pineapples."

"That's the spirit!" Naruto exclaimed enthusiastically.

Karin couldn't hold her laugh any longer at Naruto's absurd optimism and burst out laughing.

Naruto grimaced but a made a promise to the girl, "I have a feeling that even tomorrow we'll get to experience some sort of big adventure! I can feel it in my bones."

"We'll see," she answered quietly, looking at the stars that seemed to shine so brightly. It almost visibly sent light yellowish light waves onto their ship.

Karin then suggested, "A ship needs a name, doesn't it, Naruto? How about we call it 'The Yellow Star'?"

As Naruto finished the last shot of Rum, he agreed and then suggested, "Sounds great. Since you gave our ship the name, how about you become the one to steer it?"

"In other words… You want me to be the… captain?" Karin asked with a genuine confusion.

"I never claimed that I wanted to be the captain! All I want is an adventure that I could proudly tell my children about. You seem more careful and responsible, so if we ever get a big crew on our ship, you'd be a far better fit," Naruto claimed, before attempting to take a sip of the Rum from the bottle. However, there wasn't a single drop of rum left in the bottle.

She didn't give him the answer that day. However, she did steer the wheel next day… Though she hoped that she never had to steer the wheel again after what happened the next day. No, she didn't want to be on a ship again would be a more accurate assessment.

I've been writing so much for the past few days! I'm not sure what to make of this premise, as it's quite simple. The next chapter will certainly be longer, with Naruto getting… i mean, Naruto possibly experiencing some strength growth. That's definitely what I meant.

Any complaints or questions? Ask away. I'll do my best to answer all of them.

Anyways, Dendras out.
