Chapter 7: The Race

Agent BM: You got that right. And don't be so sure

At home, Honey told her parents about the party.

"You've been invited to a party? That's wonderful, Honey." said Wanda.

"Can I go?" Honey requested.

"Well we don't see why not. But you'll be taking a car there not your bike." Trevor told her.

"And you'll be back by 11:30." Wanda added.

"I can do that." Honey assured.

Up in her room, Honey felt so blissful as she fell back on her bed.

"Wow, today was great."

The bees flew out of her backpack, and landed on her headboard.

"We're so happy for you, Honey." said Buzz.

"Glad to see you happy." added Bumble.

"I can't believe you got invited to a party." Stinger told her.

"Neither can I. I better make sure I have a bathing suit for it."

As Honey rummaged through drawers, Stinger flew over to her.

"You know Honey, I'm glad you got this invite, but are you sure it's legitimate?"

"What do you mean?"

"Taffyta hasn't always been the nicest person to you, and what if this is all just a plan to humiliate you?"

Honey didn't think about that. What if this whole party thing was a joke? What if Taffyta planned to humiliate her in front of everyone?

"Oh boy." she whispered.

The next day at school, Honey watched Taffyta from a distance. She handed out invitations to the other students, so obviously the invitation wasn't a joke. And whenever she talked with Candlehead, it didn't look like they were planning anything devious.

As Honey was sneaking away from them, she ran into something rock solid. She adjusted her glasses, and looked up to see Zeke.

"Oh, Zeke, sorry." she told him.

"It's okay, I should've been watching where I was going." he replied.

After a silent moment, Honey started to walk away. But then he called out to her.

"Hey, are you going to Taffyta's pool party too?"

"Actually yes, I am."

"So am I."

"Oh, that's nice."

Zeke then noticed that Honey's demeanor changed. She seemed more worried than excited.

"Is something wrong?"

"It's nothing."

"Hey, if something's wrong I don't mind listening."

Honey's face softened, she hadn't expected Zeke to say that.

"It's just that Taffyta's never invited me to any of her parties before. And what if she's only inviting me because she wants to do something bad to me."

She turned away from him. But then to her surprise, he reached out to her, and carefully turned her head towards him.

"Hey, if something happens...I'll help you." he told her sincerely.

Honey felt her cheeks heat up, no guy had ever talked to her like that before.

"Oh...thanks Zeke."

"See you at the party."

And he walked off.

"Okay...bye." Honey replied slowly.

As she looked at Zeke leaving, she couldn't help but smile.

When Saturday afternoon came, Honey got dressed for the party. She put on her simple black one piece bathing suit, yellow flip flops, and her matching black wrap.

"Now you have a good time, Honey." said Trevor.

"I will, Dad."

"And remember what we said about your curfew." Wanda reminded.

"Don't worry, Mom. I remember."

And with that, Honey got in her parents' car and drove off to Taffyta's house.

Honey had never been to Taffyta's place before, but had no trouble finding it with the help of Google Maps. When she finally reached her destination, she was shocked by the mansion. It was three stories tall, had white walls, shiny windows, and the lawn was cut very nicely.

She parked the car, and then went up to the front door. She rang the doorbell, and waited. But she was still a little nervous.

"Don't worry, Honey." whispered Buzz.

"Everything's gonna be all right." added Bumble.

"We're here for you." Stinger comforted.

"Thanks guys." Honey told her bees.

A second later, a butler opened the door.

"Hello, are you here for Miss Taffyta's party?"

"Yes." Honey replied.

"Please come in, and follow me."

And with that, Honey followed him inside.

As they walked through the mansion, Honey took in the beauty of it. Compared to this place her house was a shabby shack. He then led her to the back where the pool was, and she saw that most of the others were already there.

And the place looked great. There were paper lanterns hung up, a DJ played music, and it came through surround sound speakers, the pool was filled with different pool toys and floaties, there was a man cooking on a BBQ grill, maids were setting different foods and drinks on the table, and everyone was having fun.

Then she saw Taffyta and Candlehead walk up to her. Taffyta was wearing a pink bikini with sequins and white flip flops, and Candlehead had on a pink and brown ruffled bikini with green flip flops.

"Hey, Honey you made it."

"Hi." Candlehead added.

"Hey girls, thanks for inviting me."

"No prob, enjoy yourself."

Then they walked off. Honey then felt a little awkward, what was she supposed to do now?

"Come on, Honey." whispered Buzz.

"Yeah, it's a party." Bumble added.

"But what should I do?"

"Go mingle, say hi to everyone." Stinger advised.

Honey took a deep breath, and then walked on.

She saw Rancis and Vanellope sitting together, Jubileena, Swizzle, Minty, and Snowanna were in the pool. Honey greeted them nicely, and they in turn greeted her back nicely. She decided to get in the water, and splash around a little.

When she got out, she ran into Zeke. And boy was she awestruck. He was wearing dark gray swimming trunks and black sandals. And Honey couldn't help but gaze at his body. He had strong arms, and he even had some abs, a six pack.

"Hey, Honey." he greeted.

Honey quickly pulled herself together, and replied.

"Oh, hi Zeke."

"Enjoying the party so far?"

"Yeah, it's really fun."

Then he walked off to get something to eat. Honey couldn't help but gaze after him.

As the party went on, Honey was really enjoying herself and Taffyta hadn't done anything to her. She was in a group talking with Gloyd, Adorabeezle, Swizzle, Crumbelina, and Taffyta. But then the Maroni Gang came up.

"Did you guys hear that the Maroni Gang was seen lurking around the city bank?" asked Gloyd.

"Probably staking out the place so they can rob it." Crumbelina told him.

Honey felt a little awkward. She wanted to tell them that they weren't going to rob the bank. But she couldn't tell them that she was now sort of friends with the Maroni Gang. And who knows what that could do to her social life?

So she quietly excused herself, and went to the food table. She was looking for a drink, when she felt someone came up beside her. She looked, and saw Zeke.

"Oh, hey Zeke." she greeted.

"Hey, Honey." he replied.

He then grabbed some limeade.

"Limeade?" he offered.

"Oh no. I'm allergic to limes."

"Oh, sorry." "It's okay."

With that, Honey took some lemonade, and rejoined the others. Then Taffyta got everyone's attention.

"Everyone, I just received news from Daddy that it's time for the annual Sugar Rush Speedway Race." she announced.

All the teens started chattering happily and excitedly.

"What's that?" Zeke asked to Honey.

"It's a go kart race that the town holds to bring publicity to Sugar Rush." Honey explained.

"This year the winner will win a trophy, get their picture in the newspaper, and a million dollar check."

When Honey heard that, she got an idea. With that money, her parents could open up a shop in Sugar Rush. This could put the Potts on easy street.
