Walking Dead: Building Your Own Hope

Chapter 17 of my Walking Dead story, enjoy.

Reviews:

Boris Yeltsin: Thanks and yes indeed, things are setting up strongly however, a few more to go and well, we'll see.
Parent12D: Thanks, glad you enjoyed it; yeah it was pretty sweet how Marissa dealt with Spencer, that of course was done to show how pathetic he really is, glad you liked the date however. Yeah, Shane's really not happy and it's clear his behaviour is inexcusable.
Wolfgirl2013: Thanks :)

Now onto the story.

Disclaimer: I don't own Walking Dead or its characters.

Season 2: Episode 17

Rick sighed, wondering how to approach this, but he knew it was something that needed to be done. So, reaching Carl's door, he carefully knocked.

"Yeah?"

"Carl, it's me." He said. "Can I come in?"

"Sure dad."

He entered to find Carl sitting on the edge of his bed, setting his phone down on the bedside table, most likely having just been texting Jamie.

'They're not fully out yet, but it's good that Carl has Jamie, he is the best boyfriend for Carl I can think of...Despite what some people might think.' Rick reflected.

Carl waited until Rick had sat down at Carl's desk, turning the chair to face his son before speaking up.

"So, what's up dad?"

Rick sighed and thought for a moment, before finally speaking up. "Carl I just...it's not easy talking about this, but, it has to be said. It's about your mother."

Carl's expression hardened but he didn't interrupt or say anything. So Rick pressed on.

"I understand that this has been...something of an upheaval for you, but really, it hurts, all of us. I don't know what to do anymore, your mother has made a mistake Carl and knowing that you hate her for it-"

"I don't hate her." Carl burst out, before quickly stopping and biting his lip. "I just...How can I trust her again, after what she's done?"

Rick sighed. "Carl. Your mother has done everything she could to make amends for this, I've decided to trust her, I'm not asking you to do the same but just...just try to give her the chance she needs. She hates being so...distant from you. You have to understand, the real issue here-"

"Is Shane, I know that." Carl said sadly. "He...I just can't stand him dad. The things he's said…"

Rick tensed. "Did...did he say anything to you?"

Carl nodded. "He...He keeps mocking me for not being manly. Says I must be a girl for having long hair."

Rick shook his head but could see that wasn't what was bothering Carl.

"He said, he also said, I was a mistake." Carl continued. "He said I was a mistake, for dating Jamie. He thinks I'm disgusting, just because I'm in love with a boy."

Rick sighed. "I know Carl, I heard about it...He said it to Lori and she defended you to him, quite fiercely I might add."

Carl started at that, and bit his lip.

"I...I didn't know." He admitted. "I um, I just...I'll try dad, but I don't know if I can move forward with this."

"Just try, please." Rick said softly.

It was enough to give him some hope.

"You sure about this?" Alden asked, amused and with an eyebrow raised.

Enid laughed and nodded. "Of course, now c'mon, I've already spoken to my parents."

She reached out and took his hand, leading him towards her front door. She'd spoken to him about this and also her parents and now she was taking him to meet her family, something they hadn't actually done yet. Yet now here they were and once Enid led them in Alden was still smiling as he prepared himself for this meeting.

"Mom, dad?" She called out.

"Through here, Enid." Maggie called out.

They made their way through into the living room and saw Maggie and Glenn there, both seated. They both looked up and took notice of the tall boy accompanying their adopted daughter.

"Oh, you must be Alden." Glenn greeted him. "It's nice to meet you at last."

Alden nodded. "Nice to meet you too, both of you."

Maggie smiled wider. "Well come, sit down, let's talk, we're eager to get to know you."

Alden sat down with Enid and Alden spoke up.

"So, what would you like to know?"

So it was the family got to know Enid's boyfriend and began to enjoy the peace that was finally settling down, even though the break in at their home hadn't been solved, it seemed that one theory had been confirmed, whoever had broken in was not able to find what they were looking for and so left and was extremely unlikely to return. Also, with school finally over for the year the group of friends would be having a little meet up in a local park to simply hang out and, they hoped, hear more about Marissa and Andrew's date, preparing themselves to enjoy summer vacation as their Sophomore year ended, or in the case of Brian and Beth, their Junior year, giving them something to look forward to in the future.

End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
