Angeal, Zack and Kairi knelt ext to some hedges that hid them from sight of any wutai while they waited for B unit to move in for their attack.
He could feel Kairi leaning into him and he realized she was still shaking quite a bit so he rubbed his hand up and down her back, trying to calm her down.
"B unit will set off the explosion, that's our cue." he told them both, trying to use a distraction for Kairi.
"The division will allow us to infiltrate." Zack said.
"Right. I'll set the bombs in the fortress and you two charge in the front and..." Angeal told them both,
"And? and, and, and?" Zack said in excitement.
Angeal didn't miss Kairi's look of annoyance at that then she jyst rolled her eyes, muttering. "Dummy."
"Indulge yourself."
"You got it, that's what I do best!" Zack said.
While Kairi didn't say anything, he felt her nodding her head in understanding. Zack then got up. "Come on, B unit."
Angeal got his sword out, puts it close to his face, which made Kairi looked at it curiously. He knew one day he'll have to pass it on to her. Bur right now she wasn't ready for the buster sword just yet.
He just hopes she'll ready when he does, emotionally.
"You know, I've never actually seen you use that." Zack said to him. "Don't you think it's sort of a waste?"
"Uses brings about wear, tear and rust. And that's a real waste." he told him.
"You're serious, aren't you?" Zack asked him.
"Yeah, I can be pretty cheap."
"Yeah, no kidding..." Zack said as he looked at Kairi. "Is she okay?"
Angeal looked down, thinking she was having another panic attack, he saw she has her eyes closed, trying to take deep breaths, but he could tell she may not be having a panic attack, but she is on the edge of having one.
"It's okay, you're safe." He whispered, stoking her hair gentle. "He can't hurt you."
He looked at Zack, knowing he would have to know why Kairi has these kind of breakdown episodes most of the time.
"Kai's had been through a lot when she was a small girl, the person that was suppose to look after her, abused her horribly. It's the reason she always struggles with her confidence." he explained to him as he pushed her bangs from her face, keeping her hair out of her face. "It's why she needs to be kept safe."
"Was it the man that attacked in the training room?" Zack asked.
"Yeah, Billy."
The explosion goes off, he felt Kairi doing a slight flinch at it. But Angeal put a hand on her shoulder and she looked up at him.
"Stay close to Zack, Kai." he said and he kissed the top of her head slightly. "I'll see you soon, I promise."
She nodded and he looked at the both of them" Begin mission."
Angeal smiled as they jumped down and he watched them fight the wutai troops, until he got a call from Lazard about something that made him worry about Kairi.
Kairi and Zack jumped over the hedge and got to the gate to see the Wutai troops looking at them shocked.
"We hold the line there! It's just one man and...girl...prepare to swarm them!" the captain said.
Kairi glared at them with the most she could do, but she isn't her old childhood friend, Eun-Byeol. But no one can be as scary as her.
Well... perhaps apart from her papa.
Kairi and Zack got their swords out, ready to take them on. she raise her hand and used thuder on the Wutai troopers that are on the wall.
"Piece of cake!" Zack said which made her roll her eyes at him.
They went not into the double doors, but over it and when they looked down to see more troopers. Zack smirked and jumped down.
Kairi, however froze like a deer in headlights, she really didn't like jumping from high palces, but this was a real mission, not a training session.
So she takes a deep breath and jump down, her sword in hand.
"In-intruder! It's SOLDIER! Stop them!"
Kairi dealth with the orange wutai troop using buzzard on him, then thunder on the other one as Zack dealt with one of them.
Kairi wonders why the Wutai reminds her strongly of Star Wars, the storm troopers.
once the fight was over, Kairi put her sword away and used ether so she can use magic later.
Don't overuse it." her entity twin brother reminded her.
Her twin brother, Aiden doesn't make appearances a lot anymore. But he does if he has to say something. But it rarely happens unless necessary.
"I know, you dummy. I'm 14, not stupid." she muttered, annoyed.
"We're 14. Twinsies."
Kairi just rolled her eyes, ignoring the teasing. but then it's silence in her head.
ZAck's phone rang and he put it on louder speaker.
"Are you two in?" her daddy asked them.
"Piece of cake. Could've done it blindfolded." Zack told him.
Kairi rolled her eyes, but said nothing on it.
"Stay alert. I've heard the Wutai keeps a monster around for anti-SOLDIER purposes. It should be somewhere in the fort."
oh boy.
"So if I can take it out, will I make 1st?" Zack asked him.
Kairi rolled her eyes at him and listened to her daddy, wondering what he is going to say to that.
But why did he sound so tense about something?
"Depends on the quality of work. Your main task is diversion.. Run amok and gather attention."
"Amok! Amok, amok!" Kairi said, jumping slightly, trying to sound like one of the witches from the old Disney movie, Hocus Pocus.
Her dad did a small laugh and sounded less stressed. "I heard that, Kai."
she giggled and Zack ruffled her hair, which made her slap his hand away playfully.
"Do well and you'll gain favor with director Lazard." her daddy told them both.
"That'll be a cakewalk. Just watch!"
KAiri rolled her eyes, but her daddy didn't hang up and she couldn't keep silent anymore.
"Daddy, is something wrong?" she asked.
She heard him sighing and after a few minutes. "Billy's escaped."
Kairi's heart froze in place, was that who she had been sensing in the forest? Was he here in the fort, wanting to hurt her again just like he used to?
Most likely. Either way, he probably wants to kill her for getting him into trouble with SOLDIER.
"I see." she said, trying to fight through her tears and fear.
"Don't worry, I won't let him touch you. Just stay next to Zack, don't engage with Billy and let Zack protect you."
"Yes, daddy." she said in a tiny voice.
"Good girl. I'll see you soon."
"Will papa be with you?" she asked, curiously.
"Maybe, we'll see."
KAiri smiled, she was basically beaming. At least she gets to see her papa, whom she hasn't seen in weeks since he's been in Wutai, trying to end the war.
'Guess being a hero takes all your time.' she thought to herself.
Zack end the call, Kairi did as her daddy told her to do; stay next to Zack. They fought every wutai trooper they came across and every hiding spot as they tried to clear a few places out to where they could be hiding.
But in all of that, Kairi didn't see Billy once.
But it didn't stop her from worrying, there are a LOT of places he could be hiding, waiting for the opportunity to strike her just like he used to do.
Once they got to the double doors that would lead to the fort, Zack took his phone out again.
"Great work, you two. Enemy forces within the fort have been halved. You can proceed to the central area."
They moved into the central area, it was huge with the big temple thing in the middle of it with creepy-ass statues.
IT literally made Kairi feel so uncomfortable.
Once they got to the steps, they heard a young girl's voice speaking to them.
"One avoid training when you can."
KAiri snorted, if she tried that her papa wouldn't exactly be happy with her. She didn't like being on his bad side.
"Two protect Wutai at all costs. Three ugly Shrina SOLDIER dudes and one pretty girl must be punished!"
Kairi's shoulders began to shake from trying to hold her laughing back. While they couldn't see the person, but she knew it was a kid.
But when Kairi looked up she looked to see a kid a bit more younger than her, she had short black hair with an bandanna tied around her head. she was wearing a blue sleeveless shirt and yellow shorts.
"Who are you?" Zack asked, looking up at the kid.
"I'm Wutai's greatest warrior! It's over for both of you because now you have to face me!"
Kairi smiled amused. She isn't sure if that's true. But you'd never know.
"A little kid...?" Zack asked, looking at Karir, who shrug her shoulders. "This area isn't safe for you. Go home now."
The kid then jumped over them and Kairi turned around first, keeping a safe distance.
"You two are the ones who's going to go home." the kid told them. "If you two wanna go any further you have to go through me!"
The girl run to Zack, looking like she was punching him without trying. But Zack just watched her for a few minutes and then fell to his knees.
"NO! You got me!"
Kairi couldn't hold back the laugh that was building up inside of her chest and she held her stomach as the kid looked proud of her 'defeat' of the SOLDIER dude.
"Hahaha! that'll teach you to mess with me! Once again, I saved Wutai."
With that being said, the girl ran off, probably heading home to her parents about her 'victory' or whatever.
Zack got up. "Boy oh boy...That a lot of energy."
Kairi couldn't help but laugh again which made Zack turn around to face her with it.
"Yeah, yeah. Laugh it up, princess."
"That was so hilarious. I'm telling daddy about this one." Kairi told him.
He then looked horrified by that idea, it made the whole thing even more funnier than it already had been.
"Don't do that!" he said, putting his hands together.
"Nope, I'm so DOING it."
"Please! Angeal won't let me live it down."
"Fine, only cause I'm your friend." she said.
"Oh-HEY!"
Kairi chuckled bemusedly as they went into the fort, she opened the double doors to see the circle room, her bad feeling returning. But then two ogre monsters came. Just as when she had her sword out, she felt a hand on her shoulder and a sharp pain, like a needle, was jammed into her neck.
"Sinful bastard, you'll pay in hell."
Then everything went dark for her, knowing who is was and how well he meant those words.
