A/N Well, here is the final chapter with only the epilogues to follow. I couldn't even carry through and finish on the 14th but it is only a few days late.
I will do the epilogues in the next week. I admit I was hoping for at least one review to show that some of my loyal followers were still with me. But I realize my shameful letting this story go for so long has probably turned people off.
I do want to thank all those that have honored me by reading my story. It means a lot to me. Well, that's enough of that. Let's finish this up.
I do not own Star Trek Enterprise or any of the related characters. Star Trek Enterprise was created by Rick Berman and Brandon Braga and is owned by Paramount. All rights of Star Trek Enterprise belong to them. This story is a work of fanfiction and is meant for entertainment only. I am not making profit from this story.
Shran, Archer, and T'Pol stood in the Space Port. Shran turned to Archer, "Well, I guess it's time to go. We all have a lot of work to do."
Archer nodded, "It sounds like I will be traveling to Andoria soon. President Warren seems to think I may still have some influence."
Shran smiled, "I think he is right. The people know how you and T'Pol saved the life of Queen Helena and Princess Skye." He smirked, "Besides you are still the man who saved the Galaxy."
Archer laughed, "Yeah, how could I forget that."
In the next few months, Archer traveled to Andoria and Tellar, doing what he could to speak up for the Federation. At the same time their friends were surprised when Archer and T'Pol told them she was going to travel to Vulcan to work for the Federation there.
It seemed suspicious that she was doing that, but that was all Archer and T'Pol had to say.
Each of the planets decided that the decision whether or not to join the Federation would be a vote by the people. For the next eight months, the champions for the Federation did all they could to gather support for the vote. Finally, they decided they had done all they could.
During this time Archer made several journeys to Vulcan. Finally, he stayed there.
Tellar was the first to hold an election. To everyone's relief it passed easily. Vulcan followed with the same result.
However, it was much more suspenseful on Andoria. The Torok supporters were still numerous among the Imperial Guard.
In the end it was the combined efforts of the Queen, Shran, General Thrang and Archer that put it over the top. The vote was close but convincing.
Earth, who had waited for the others to finish, soon followed with an overwhelming victory.
Meanwhile, Archer and T'Pol remained on Vulcan.
Trip Tucker exited from the shuttle and headed for the house. He was surprised to see Natalie waiting at the door.
As he reached her, she smiled and said, "About time you got home."
As he greeted her with a kiss, "I am actually a little early."
"I know but you received a message and I have been waiting to share it with you."
As they entered the house, Trip asked, "Where are the kids?"
"Charlie is out playing with Harold and Rose is down for a nap."
She led him into the Den, where a large screen was divided into various squares. They sat down near the screen and Natalie activated one of them.
A Starfleet officer appeared on the screen,
This message is for Charles Tucker III, former Captain of Starfleet. Last duty assignment, Captain of the Starship Enterprise.
You are hereby invited to a reunion of the crew of said Starship. It will include all those that served from the original launch to the return of Earth after the Xindi Campaign. It is also extended to all parents, brothers, sisters, children, spouses, and significant others.
The reunion will be held in the main ballroom of the new McGregor Hotel in San Francisco on October 23, 2161, at 1900 hours. One suite will be provided free of charge for the nights of October 22 and October 23.
All other expenses including transportation, additional rooms, meals, etc. will be the responsibility of the participants. The McGregor will provide additional rooms at a reduced rate.
The reunion is being held in conjunction with the signing of the Charter of the United Federation of Planets. The ceremony will be held in the auditorium at nearby Starfleet Headquarters at 1000 on October 23.
There will be a ticket for the invitee and one guest.
As the message ended, Trip turned to Natalie, "I can see why you were excited."
As they moved over to the couch, he continued, "We better get to work. I am sure that my dad and mom will want to be there."
He paused, "Lester will be a part of the ceremony. We need to check if he is going to take care of Dave and Eileen. Is there anyone else you can think of?"
"Not right now." She hesitated, "Maybe we should get a couple extra rooms just in case. Maybe someone else will need one."
She smiled, "It will be great to see everyone. Especially T'Pol and Jonathon. I still wonder why she has been on Vulcan so long."
Trip nodded, "It does seem strange. But I suppose it will make sense when we hear about it."
Travis and Hoshi Mayweather entered the lobby of the McGregor Hotel. Hoshi was pulling a luggage bag while Travis was carrying Yoshiko. They were greeted by the sight of a lobby full of people from all the planets of the new Federation.
Hoshi spoke up, "I wonder where we check in."
Just then she spotted a familiar face, "PHLOX."
Phlox and Feezel turned their heads and smiling, headed toward them, Feezel carrying Bordog.
As they reached them Phlox spoke up, "Glad to see you made it."
Hoshi looked around, "Do you know where we check in?"
Just then there was an announcement, "For all individuals arriving for the Enterprise reunion, there is a check-in area in the Northwest corner of the Lobby by the staircase."
Phlox smiled, "There is your answer."
Hoshi smiled, "Have you seen the others?"
"Talked to Natalie and Trip earlier. They said they saw Penelope. Apparently there is some question if Malcolm will make it."
Travis spoke up, "How about T'Pol and Jon?"
"No one has seen them, but apparently they are in the hotel. The last I heard they were meeting with other participants dealing with the signing of the Charter."
Hoshi nodded, "Well, we better get signed in."
Phlox continued, "After you get settled in, do you want to join us for lunch? I hear they have an excellent Chinese restaurant."
Hoshi looked at Travis, "That sounds great but I think we'll pass. We're exhausted and we need to put Yoshiko down for a nap."
"We understand."
As they moved off, he called after them, "Oh, everyone is meeting in Suite 2345 at 1800."
Hoshi called back, "We'll see you there."
By 1830 everyone was nursing the beverage of their choice and engaged in conversation. Everyone from the Bridge except Malcolm, Archer and T'Pol were there along with their families, as well as Phlox and his family.
Penelope was there with Malcolm's sister Madeline who had come to be with her.
Other guests were Trip's parents and Dave and Eileen.
Hoshi took a sip of her wine and spoke up, "Penelope, have you heard anything more from Malcolm?"
Penelope shrugged, "The last I heard, it was going to be close whether he would make it on time. Starfleet is doing all it can to try to have him here for the ceremony, but failing that, for the reunion."
She answered back, "Is your family here, Hoshi?"
Hoshi answered sadly, "No, my father has not been well and we agreed they should not risk the trip." Penelope nodded, "I am sorry to hear that." She turned to Travis, "Are your mother and brother on a trip?"
"Yes, they planned to take time off but there were some problems on their last trip and they couldn't make it."
Just then Trip and Natalie came and sat down next to them. Trip spoke up, "So what are you guys talking about?"
Penelope answered, "We were talking about Malcolm and Hoshi and Travis's relatives." Trip nodded, having talked before with each of them on the same topics. Natalie spoke up, "I was really hoping that Jon and T'Pol would be here."
Everyone agreed with Hoshi saying, "I heard they are meeting with Shran and the others in preparation for the ceremony."
Natalie added, "My dad is at the same meeting."
Penelope broke in, "Does anyone know any more about why T'Pol stayed on Vulcan so long?"
Trip sighed, "No. But it is definitely something I am going to find out if we ever see them again."
Travis interjected, "Well, we will see them tomorrow. I am sure they will have a good explanation."
Hoshi smiled, "At least a LOGICAL one."
Everyone laughed and moved on to other topics.
The next morning, they were all seated in balcony seats overlooking the stage and the rest of the audience composed of individuals from each of the four planets. The stage held a number of chairs, a table, and a dais.
Penelope was there but there was no sign of Malcolm. She sat next to an empty seat at one end of the row with Natalie and Trip next to her, with Phlox and Feezel coming next and Hoshi and Travis finishing the row.
Trip's parents, along with Madeline, Dave and Eileen were serving as babysitters.
Just as everyone was giving up hope and the ceremony was about to begin, they were stunned to see Malcolm come running out the entrance to the balcony rushing over to them. Penelope gave a small shriek and embraced and kissed him as he arrived. The others called out greetings and applauded, earning looks from the rest of the crowd.
Everyone had questions but at that moment everyone's attention was on the stage as the participants for the ceremony including Jonathon Archer filled up the chairs arousing muttering in the audience.
When all were settled, Admiral Duval approached the dais.
"Good morning, I am Admiral Duval. It is my great honor to welcome you all to this most momentous occasion."
"I want to welcome all of those from every planet who are in attendance. I also want to welcome our distinguished guests who will take part in the ceremony."
"I also want to take a moment to point out the officers of Enterprise who are in attendance."
"Now before we proceed, I ask you all to rise for the raising of the flags of the four initial members of the Federation."
As the crowd rose, the screens above the stage came to life, showing four flagpoles and a taller flagpole in the middle. The four flags were raised on the smaller poles.
As they finished, Duval asked everyone to be seated. At that moment, several Starfleet officers came out and distributed PADDS on the table before leaving the stage.
Duval continued, "And now we will proceed with the ceremony."
"At this time, there will be a ceremonial signing of the charter by four members of the Charter Committee who accomplished the enormous task of creating the Charter."
"First, from Andoria, General Shran."
Shran, dressed in his Imperial Guard uniform, moved from his chair to sit at the table.
"Next from Tellar, Margot."
Margot moved forward and sat in a chair next to Shran.
"From Vulcan, Ambassador Soval."
Soval, in his most impressive robes sat in the chair next to Margot.
"And from Earth, Admiral Jonathon Archer."
Each had received a huge ovation as they were introduced. With all of them seated, they signed their names on the PADDS before them.
They then rose from the chairs and stood by the table as the crowd gave another cheer.
When they returned to their chairs, it became completely silent.
Duval took a deep breath, "And now it is a moment that at one time would have been impossible to comprehend. We will now have the signing of the Charter, creating the United Federation of Planets."
"I cannot overstate how honored and in awe I feel to introduce our next distinguished individuals."
"From Tellar, President Grandl."
Grandl moved forward and taking a seat at the table was handed a ceremonial pen. Relishing the moment, he signed his name as the crowd stayed respectfully quiet.
Duval waited a few moments, then continued, "Our next signer represents Andoria. It is my understanding that she is the first Queen to ever visit another planet. Accompanying her is her daughter, the next Queen of Andoria."
"From Andoria, Queen Helena and Princess Skye."
There was deep murmuring in the audience as Helena and Skye made their way to the table. As Helena sat down, Skye stood by her. With a flourish, Helena signed her name and handed the Pen to Skye.
Waiting for the crowd to settle down, Duval continued, "Our next signer also is traveling to another planet for the first time. From Vulcan, Minister T'Pau."
T'Pau rose, impressive in her regal robe. Making her way to the chair, she seated herself and signed her name.
Duval was about to introduce Lester Warren when Warren surprised him by coming to the dais. "I'll take over for a moment."
Duval quickly stepped aside.
Warren turned to the audience, "The Admiral was about to announce that I would sign for Earth and it would be a great honor for me to do so. But I have come to believe that honor should go to another individual. A man who held the same office I do but was a huge factor in the forming of this Federation. When the first conference failed, it was he that worked to keep the dream of an Alliance alive."
He paused, "To sign for Earth, President Samuels."
Samuels came out, and aided by a Starfleet officer, made his way to the table. He then sat down and taking a deep breath, signed his name.
Duval returned to the dais. "It is done. Let the Galaxy know, a new force has been created. A force that will grow and expand, a force for good."
As the four signers rose the crowd gave them a standing ovation.
As they finally subsided, Duval asked them to remain standing. The screen then lit up again, showing the four flags. As everyone watched, the blue flag of the Federation was raised up the center pole to fly for the first time.
After everyone settled down and all the participants returned to their seats, Duval returned to the dais.
"And now, to deliver the keynote address, a man who literally needs no introduction, a man who has been a part of all the events leading up to this moment, Admiral Jonathon Archer."
As the crowd clapped, Archer made his way to the dais.
Taking a deep breath, he took one last look at the PADD in front of him and looked out over the audience, including a look at the Enterprise crew.
Today signals the end of a journey, not only a journey of time and distance, although it has been both; but a journey of change, of growth.
It has been a journey of moving past preconceptions, of putting aside past grudges, and indeed past hatred.
It has been a growth of trust and respect between individuals and peoples. It has not been a tranquil journey. In fact, it has included conflict and death.
Today, I would like to talk about six individuals involved in that journey.
The first is my mentor and previous commanding officer, Admiral Forrest. Although his journey did not include the strife associated with the others, in some ways, his was the most difficult. He dealt in the day-to-day small constant steps to build a true friendship and alliance between Vulcan and Earth. In the end, he gave his life in pursuit of that goal.
When Admiral Forrest died, he saved the life of Ambassador Soval. To say that Soval and I once distrusted each other would be quite an understatement. More than anyone else, he was the focal point of my and others belief that the Vulcans held us back and prevented us from moving forward as fast as we could.
For his part, he, like Admiral Forrest had to try to build a bridge across the two cultures. While I know now that he had a greater belief in Humans than I realized, there is no doubt he also was alarmed by our "immaturity."
But when the time came, when he came to realize that his government was about to take actions that could cause a war between Vulcan and Andoria; to attack innocents within Vulcan itself, he gave away his career and endangered his life by rejecting the very government he has served for so long. He also showed his trust in Humans by seeking our aid in that struggle. In the end, his actions not only averted war, but led to a new beginning for the Vulcan people as they returned to the path they had wandered from. His work in settling the Romulan War and his participation in the writing of this Charter are well known.
How do I start with the next individual? The first time I met General Shran he tried to change the shape of my face. In fact, we exchanged phaser fire later in that same encounter. But yet that first encounter was also the beginning of seeds of trust between us. In the years that lay ahead, the seed grew, but our meetings also included a duel to the death and a confrontation where I nearly destroyed his ship. During the ensuing years, we saved each other's lives several times. He was responsible for Andoria coming to our aid in the struggle with the Xindi.
Out of that first intense distrust and anger, a great respect and trust has grown between us. Today I consider him one of my closest friends. His courage and leadership in the Romulan War are legendary.
I called the next individual short and ugly to his face. He once called Enterprise small and unimpressive. And that's when we were being friendly. Viscount Gral was like his people, direct and straight forward. He told you how he felt. In my first encounter with him, he was faced with being threatened to be shot by General Shran. He also felt that Humans were in concert with Andorians and keeping him a prisoner on my ship. Yet, when presented with the truth about the situation, he was able to not only put aside those events but years of mistrust and hatred as well. He then aided us in creating the flotilla of ships that helped end the first conflict with the Romulans. He then sat down with General Shran to begin the steps that led us to the signing of this Charter today. We all know of his heroic actions that led to his death.
At one time, the idea that I would ever discuss the next individual under these circumstances would have been beyond belief. For Degra was the Xindi who created the weapon that killed seven million humans. He also was the builder of the weapon that was to finish the job. Yet, although he did such a horrible deed because he believed it was necessary to preserve his own species, when he was confronted with evidence that contrasted with that belief, he looked to find the truth even though in his eyes he could be endangering his species survival.
I want to emphasize that he did this when total victory was there for the taking. In fact, he just had to do nothing and I would have been killed and Enterprise destroyed. But instead he saved us so he could seek the truth. He went on to risk everything to follow his conscience. He was instrumental in saving the very world he once sought to destroy. In the end, he was brutally murdered for doing so.
If I am a contributor to the birth of this Federation, it is due to what I learned from individuals like the ones above. But it is mostly due to my journey with Commodore T'Pol. In my first encounter with her, I told her I would like to punch her; actually, it was in more colorful language. When she was first assigned to Enterprise, I wanted nothing to do with her. Many of you know of my personal early distrust of Vulcans because I felt they prevented my father from achieving his dream. T'Pol represented to me the very essence of that anger and distrust. However, from that first mission, I began to develop a grudging respect and perhaps an inkling of how much she would contribute to my growth and how much I would come to rely on her. Through the years that grudging respect grew into mutual respect, admiration, a deep friendship and eventually (his voice softened) love.
There is no doubt that whatever I contributed to the forming of this Federation, it would not have occurred without T'Pol.
(He paused and looked out over the audience)
I have said this is the end of a journey. But of course, it is much more than that. It is also the beginning of a new journey, a journey that in many ways will be more difficult than the one we have completed. For now we must take the words and principles that we have signed to today and give them life. We have talked the talk, now it is time to walk the walk. This will not always be easy, there will be setbacks and confrontations. And as we venture forth, there will be opportunities for others to join us and encounters with those who will seek to destroy us. It will be our duty to honor our principles in dealing with both.
We need not only to commit ourselves to this journey but also to ingrain that same commitment in those that will follow us. For it is for those future generations that we are building for today.
I ask of you and of myself in the words of a human from long ago, "I pledge my life, my fortune, and my sacred honor."
Thank you.
As the crowd rises and gives him a standing ovation, Archer acknowledges it and heads back to his seat.
At that moment, he and the crowd are surprised when he is stopped by Shran who has come up to him.
"Hold it, Admiral, I need you to stay out here a little longer."
Shran turned to a murmuring audience, "I am here to make an announcement that would normally not be part of such an occasion. But since it involves two people that were essential to this event occurring at all and because it reflects the spirit of this occasion, I feel it is apropos to do so."
He then gave a huge grin, "Besides I really want to!"
In the audience, Hoshi suddenly has a thought. She realizes it could explain what happened with T'Pol.
She excitedly turned to Phlox, "I think I know what he is going to say. Oh, God, I can't believe it, I hope I'm right!"
Shran had continued, "Six months ago, on T'Pol's home planet, Admiral Archer and Commodore T'Pol became the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl." As the audience began to murmur, he went on, "To all delegates and guests, and to the peoples they represent, I present T'Les Mercy Archer!"
T'Pol comes out on to the stage carrying a baby girl. She walks up next to Archer. He smiles and leans down and kisses her softly on the lips as he looks down at T'Les.
When T'Pol discovered she was pregnant she and Archer decided they needed to talk with Phlox. Archer of course wanted to let everyone know but T'Pol made him realize that Vulcans considered pregnancy a very private thing. Phlox then suggested that for the sake of privacy and also as an extra precaution, T'Pol should spend her pregnancy on Vulcan.
T'Pol and Archer agreed. Archer knew he had to work for the Federation but assured T'Pol he would be there for the birth.
T'Pol spent a lot of her time with T'Pau who was excited for her but also a little jealous.
At the moment of birth, T'Pol experienced a small vision. She felt she had done this before. Jonathon was there but the doctor was different and she sensed it was on another world. It passed as quickly as it came. When she mentioned it to Archer, they could come up with no reason why it had occurred.
As everyone in the auditorium rose to their feet and cheered, including those on the stage, Jhamel came out and stood next to her husband.
Hoshi, with tears in her eyes, "I knew it! It's so wonderful!"
She then saw the look on Phlox's face, "You knew."
Phlox gave his big smile, "I delivered her."
Suddenly the big screen lit up and centered on T'Les, clearly showing her green eyes and pointed ears. At that moment, T'Les smiled.
That night T'Pol brought T'Les to the reunion in a sling across her chest. She knew that everyone would want to hold T'Les but she felt she needed to protect her from too much attention. She knew Natalie and the others would have plenty of opportunities to do so.
Everyone was excited by the turn out. Archer was especially gratified to see that a large number of relatives of those that had lost their lives were there. He felt it gave them a chance for some closure by talking about their loved ones and meeting those that had worked with them.
Trip was glad to see that Mary Robbins was there with her wife and son. He saw to it that she got to talk with other members of the crew who had worked with Kathy.
For Phlox, he also had a special moment when he was approached by an elderly man and woman who introduced themselves as Elizabeth Cutler's parents. He was especially gratified when they told him how she had said how Phlox was her friend and how much she admired him. He told them the feeling was mutual and how he had been affected by her death.
Although they weren't officially invited, no one was really surprised when Shran showed up with Jhamel and Talla. The visiting relatives were excited to see him and especially Jhamel in person.
But even they were overshadowed when Queen Helena and Princess Skye showed up. They told Archer they were leaving but had to say goodbye. They smiled and told him that General Thrang had been against their trip. When he finally gave in, he insisted they travel on separate ships taking different routes.
Things were winding down when Archer and T'Pol saw someone they had not expected to see but then realized they should have seen it coming.
Archer spoke up, "Daniels, I suppose I should have suspected you would show up."
"I just had to come and see everything with my own eyes." He looked down at T'Les, "She is beautiful."
T'Pol looked lovingly at her, "Yes, she is."
Archer asked, "Were you at the ceremony?"
"Yes. It was quite impressive."
He looked around, "I would love to stay and talk and meet some of the others but I am on a tight time restraint. Time Travel is very regulated in my time."
They exchanged goodbyes and Archer and T'Pol watched as he disappeared into the crowd.
The ballroom was clearing out and Archer and T'Pol were at the door saying goodbyes when Natalie noticed that only the Bridge Crew and Phlox were left. Suddenly she had an idea. She turned to Trip, "I am getting tired and want to get the kids to bed. I'll meet you back at the room."
Trip was about to say something when he sensed what she had. He nodded and said goodnight to Rose and Charlie.
Feezel had been listening and realized what Natalie was doing. She told Phlox she was putting Bordog to bed and would wait up for him.
Penelope now knew what was going on and told Malcolm good night, joining the other women as they said goodnight to Archer and T'Pol.
That left only the Bridge crew and Phlox.
Hoshi suddenly spoke up, "I know that there will probably be many times when we will all be together, but it is also true that no one knows what the future holds. I just want to say, I love you guys."
The others quickly assured her they felt the same. Then Hoshi and Travis walked over to Malcolm. Hoshi smiled, "I am so glad you could make it. We are so proud of you and I know you will get a ship soon." She smiled slyly, "I want to thank you again for providing me with a shirt that time I really needed one."
Seeing Malcolm a little embarrassed she continued, "And I do sometimes wonder what might have happened if I had accepted your dinner invitation."
Malcolm had recovered and got a little back at her, "I often wondered that myself."
Hoshi than stepped forward and hugged him.
As Hoshi moved away, Malcolm turned to Travis, "While we are reminiscing, I want to thank you again for when you saved my life in the cave."
Travis smiled, "I am glad I was there, but I do wish I could have done it without smashing up my leg."
Malcolm looked down at Yoshiko, and then looked up, "You are a lucky man, Travis, be sure you take good care of your family."
"I know, Malcolm, and I will do all I can."
As they shook hands, Hoshi moved over to Phlox. Speaking in Denoblian, she thanked him for being her friend. Then she smiled and said, "Do you think Sluggo made it?"
Phlox smiled, "I would like to think he did as well as the young woman who put him there. She turned out to be a courageous person."
Hoshi, tearing up a little, "Thank you, Phlox." She then hugged him as he returned the hug. As she stepped back, Phlox turned to Travis, "Well, Travis, I hope you have learned to stay away from those dangerous situations you put yourself in. I won't be there to patch you up."
"I have, Phlox." He hesitated, "I do want to thank you for being the one that realized I was not dead. I would probably still be hooked up to that machine."
"Yes, we were fortunate that I was able to do so."
Hoshi had reached Trip. His relationship with her had always been interesting to her. He was of course a very handsome man. But it was when it appeared that they were both going to die that she had formed a bond with him. To this day, she was not exactly sure what had happened there.
Trip smiled as Hoshi reached him. He had always had a soft spot for her. He admired her greatly. He had been thrilled when she and Travis had gotten together. And of course facing death together meant there would always be something special between them.
Hoshi spoke first, "I really just don't know what to say. You all have been such a large part of my life." She teared up a little, "I'll never forget how you were there for me when we (she paused) died."
Trip smiled and reached out and touched her shoulder, "No more than you were for me."
They moved together and hugged, staying that way for some time.
When they finally broke apart, Trip turned to Travis, "Like Malcolm, I owe you my life."
Travis answered, "You saved the ship on more than one occasion. I am glad I was there."
Hoshi had moved over to T'Pol. She thought of what Jon had said in his speech. Her relationship with T'Pol and been similar, blossoming into friendship.
She smiled, "Well, T'Pol, as the only women on the bridge, we somehow were able to get the men through everything."
She looked down a T'Les, "I am so happy for you and Jon."
She smiled, "And it is so wonderful she has pointed ears."
T'Pol spoke up, "It was gratifying to have another woman to be there for me."
Hoshi hesitated and T'Pol sensing what she was thinking, moved forward and gave her a quick hug.
She then turned to Travis, "It was satisfactory to serve with you, Lieutenant. You were vital to our mission."
Hoshi looked up at Jon. She was overcome with a myriad of emotions. This man was so many things to her. He was a heroic figure, larger than life. At the same time she often felt like his daughter. She smiled to herself, she had also at one time considered a romantic relationship with him.
"You know, with all the titles you have held, you will still always be Captain Archer to me."
Archer smiled, "I know, Hoshi, I often feel that way myself. With all that has happened, I treasure our time on Enterprise the most."
Then Hoshi couldn't resist, "You know, there was a time I thought we would be good together. You know, as lovers."
She was rewarded when she saw the look on Archer's face. But then he recovered and it was her turn to blush, "Hoshi, I always was aware there were two beautiful women on the Bridge."
He went on, "You are an amazing woman, Hoshi, and it was an honor to serve with you."
Hoshi felt herself tearing up; she thought back to that moment when he appeared on the Bridge after they all thought he was dead, how she had instinctively rushed to hug him.
She moved forward and they held each other. Finally, she stepped back, "I love you, Jonathon Archer."
Archer smiled down at her, "I love you too."
There was a long moment of silence and then Archer turned to Travis and pretended not to recognize him. Suddenly, he said, "Turn around."
Travis stared but then turned his back toward Archer.
Archer smiled broadly and said, "Oh, it's you, Travis."
As everyone but T'Pol laughed, Travis turned back.
Archer then turned serious, "I want to thank you for driving us around the Galaxy. You were a big reason we were able to accomplish what we did."
Travis was stunned for a moment and then said, "I need to thank you for giving me the opportunity."
Archer then reached out and shook his hand. Then he, Hoshi, and Yoshiko exited through the door.
Malcolm moved over to Phlox, "It's been great to serve with you. I apologize for being such a poor patient."
"You were that, but it was also a pleasure to spend time with you. I wish you good luck in you new endeavor."
"Thank you Phlox. I just hope I can have a crew comparable to the one on Enterprise."
Then he smiled, "Although I hope none of them surprise me like you did when you puffed up that time."
Phlox sighed, "I admit I am sorry you remembered that, I deeply regret I felt I needed to do it."
As Malcolm moved over to Trip, they were both almost overwhelmed by remembering some of what they had experienced together. The time in Shuttlepod One and the experience on the Romulan drone.
Trip spoke first, "Well, Malcolm, it's been quite a journey as Jon said but we came out of it pretty good at that. I have Natalie and the kids; you have Penelope and I know soon the command of your own ship. I know you will make a great captain. I kind of wish I could serve under you."
Malcolm smiled, "I don't know, you are kind of a rebel. But I doubt any Engineer can match up to you."
Then, sensing Malcolm might be embarrassed at a hug, Trip put out his hand which Malcolm shook.
As Malcolm moved over to T'Pol, he wasn't sure what he would say. They had not really ever spent that much time together.
But his was stunned and shocked when she greeted him by saying, "Hello, Commander, or should I say Stinky!"
Completely nonplussed, he angrily turned to Trip, but he was looking off somewhere.
As he turned back wondering what he could possibly say, he was further shocked when she continued, "I agree I do have a nice bum."
Seeing how distraught Malcolm was, T'Pol decided it had gone far enough. She gave her Vulcan smile, "Relax, Malcolm, I shall consider it a compliment."
She grew serious, "You are a fine officer and I believe along with the others; you will make an excellent Captain."
Malcolm, managing to regain some composure, "Thank you Commodore, that means a lot coming from you." He looked at T'Les, "And I am so happy for you and Admiral Archer."
"Thank you, Malcolm."
When he moved over to Archer, he thought back how his perception of Archer had changed over the years. How the incident of the Mine had been the instigation of the change in his feelings. He remembered with regret when he allowed Harris to talk him into keeping information from Archer. For a moment, he also wondered what Archer thought of the whole thing with T'Pol.
To Archer, Malcolm had always been the different one. Someone that had a different relationship with him than the others. But he felt they had found a way to respect each other and work together.
"I am glad you were able to make it to the ceremony and this reunion. They wouldn't have been the same without you." He paused and went on, "It also gives me the opportunity to tell you that when you get your command, you will make an excellent Captain."
"Thank you, Sir. If I am, it will because I had an excellent role model."
Archer smiled, "You didn't always feel that way." He hesitated, "I am honored you feel that way, but you need to be your own man. You need to find what works for you. And you can also hopefully learn from my mistakes."
Malcolm nodded and then surprised Archer when he came to attention and smartly saluted him.
Archer quickly recovered and returned it.
"Good luck, Commander."
"Thank you, Sir."
As Phlox approached Trip, he was thinking of two situations he had with him. One was the time that he Phlox was given credit for saving Trip and Hoshi's lives. He had accepted the thanks but there had been something strange about the whole situation. The other item was him recommending Neuropressure. He felt somewhat guilty when it had resulted in heartache for Trip.
Trip was experiencing similar thoughts. No matter how it had ended, he was glad for the experience with T'Pol. It had helped him make it through the Expanse. He also could not be jealous when he saw how happy Jon and T'Pol were and especially now that they had a baby together.
In the end they each just expressed how much they had appreciated working together and their respect for each other.
When Phlox reached T'Pol he thought of how much she had progressed, how much she had changed. He thought of her struggle with Panar Syndrome.
T'Pol spoke first, "As the only two non-humans on Enterprise, I always treasured your input. You often helped me find my place." She hesitated, "And I will always be grateful for your help with Panar."
Phlox nodded, "I am just grateful T'Pau was able to cure you."
He looked down and smiled, "It will also be one of my greatest honors to have delivered this beautiful child."
T'Pol showed her Vulcan smile, "And Jon and I will always be indebted to you for your help."
Phlox and Archer looked at each other, each thinking of two events. Two decisions that would always be difficult for them. In the end, they both believed they had made the necessary choice, but that did not prevent them from understanding the ramifications of what they did.
The first was when they decided not to give the Valakians the cure for their disease. The second was when Archer told him about his plans to steal the warp coil.
Those two events had brought them close.
"Well, Admiral, it has been a remarkable path to here. I want to thank you for allowing me to be a part of it."
Archer smiled, "I have made a lot of decisions in my life. Some I will regret but one of the best was asking you to join me on that first mission. It is impossible to quantify how much you have meant to me and my crew."
"I thank you for that, Admiral, but I am very grateful that you did. It has expanded my horizons and deeply enriched my life."
He then extended his hand which Archer shook.
After Phlox left the room, there were only the three of them. There were an awkward few moments. After all, she had been told by both men they loved her and had slept with both of them, but it quickly passed.
Trip smiled, "Natalie and I am so thrilled for you and Jon. I know she is looking forward to holding her."
"Thank you, Trip, I know I may have hurt my friends by keeping it a secret but pregnancy is very private for a Vulcan and we had no idea what could happen with it being a union between a Human and a Vulcan."
"I am sure that Natalie and the others will understand. We are just all so happy for you guys."
T'Pol paused, "I also want you to know that I still remember Elizabeth and what she means for us."
"I do too. Even though we only knew her for a short time, I will treasure that time."
Then T'Pol allowed something she would only allow for a select few, a long hug.
When they broke apart, Trip turned to Archer. Both men were pleased that they had been able to regain their friendship. Trip smiled, "That was a great speech. It has been quite a ride."
Archer thought back to all they had been through, from the first time Trip approached him about his father's engine. "I agree and I am so grateful you shared it with me."
Then they moved forward and unabashedly hugged each other, Trip whispering, "I love you, Jon."
"I love you, too."
As they broke apart, Trip surprised Archer by giving him the Starfleet salute. As with Malcolm, Archer quickly recovered and answered it.
Trip then passed out through the door.
Archer looked around, "Well, I thought everything went well."
T'Pol nodded, "Indeed, everything was most satisfactory."
She hesitated, "It pleases me greatly that you and Trip have regained your friendship."
Archer nodded, "Well, I suppose we should head out too."
He then moved forward and took T'Pol in his arms, kissing her passionately on the lips, "I love you, T'Pol of Vulcan."
"I love you too, Jonathon Archer, I do."
He looked down at T'Les, "And we love you too."
As he stepped back and allowed T'Pol to pass through the door, he gently put his hand on her lower back and followed his wife and daughter through the door, shutting it behind him.
A/N Well, that's it except for the Epilogues. I hope the ending wasn't disappointing.
When T'Pol had that vision when T'Les was born that was a shameless reference back to a previous story I wrote "The Needs of the Many." It answers a question that T'Pol asked in that story. There is also a minor character from that story that appears as a very minor character in this story. I will reveal the name after the first epilogue if anyone cares.
