Chapter 1-Old friends

Shane's P.O.V

Shane Walsh sat in a train car inside a community called Terminus. He came here looking for the man he had once tried to kill, Rick Grimes. Shane stands up when the door opens, and eight people are led into the train car. They look around. "Hello," Shane says as he sets into the light. His eyes widen when he sees Glenn and Maggie Rhee. "Glenn? Maggie?" Shane says as the two people stare at him in shock.

"Shane?" Glenn says as he steps closer. "You're alive."

"I am," Shane says. "Hi, Maggie."

Maggie just nods at him. "You know him?" Abraham Ford asks.

"He was a part of our group at the start," Glenn says. "Tried to kill our leader. He's supposed to be dead. Rick said he killed you."

"He got close," Shane says. "I was in a building for a couple of weeks, healing. I've been on my own since."

"Good," Maggie says.

"Is he alive?" Shane asks. "Rick?"

"Why?"

"I'm not the same man I was, Glenn. I made a lot of mistakes back then. I've been looking for you guys for a year. I'm trying to find redemption."

"You don't deserve it," Maggie growls. "You killed Otis."

"I know," Shane says. "One of the biggest mistakes I have made. I'm not asking you to forgive me. If we get out of here, and you think I should die, then kill me," Shane says as he walks to the back of the train and sits down as Maggie and Glenn watch him.

Glenn's P.O.V

Glenn sat with his back against the train car, watching Shane. Tara sits down beside him. "Who is he?"

"His name is Shane Walsh. He led our group for the first three months after the world ended. Rick showed up, and he got worse. When we lost Carol's daughter Sophia, Shane, Carl, and Rick went into the woods, and Carl got shot by a man named Otis. Shane went on a run with him, and only Shane came back. He told Dale he had killed him. Never how."

"My ankle was hurt. We were running from a herd," Shane says, making them all look at him. "I knew we both could have made it, but I didn't want to risk it, so I shot Otis in the leg and took Rick's gun and Otis's bag and left him for the walkers."

"You made him bait?" Maggie asks Shane, who nods.

"Let me finish the rest of my story for your friends. I didn't want to look for Sophia; I wanted to leave. One day, Glenn told us that they were walkers in the barn, and I took the guns from Dale and I cleared them. Rick also told me Lori was pregnant with my child, so when Rick and Glenn went to find Hershel and Lori ran after them, I brought her back, and they brought back a prisoner. I didn't like that, so I tried to have him killed, but Rick couldn't do it because of Carl. Dale died that night. The next day, I took Randall into the woods and killed him, and then led Rick into a field, and I raised my gun at him, but I hesitated, and he stabbed me, almost killed me, but I lived, and I've been looking for redemption since then. That's my story," Shane says and then stays silent.

"I was with the governor," Tara says quietly. "He may have done but things we can't fix the past, but we can try and make up for it. I don't care about who he was back then. I care about who he is now. Maybe you should try to see the man he is now, not back then," Tara says to Glenn and Maggie, who stays silent.

Shane's P.O.V

Shane sat against the back of the train car and looked at Glenn as he walked up to him and sat down. "Are they alive? Rick? Carl? T-dog? Andrea? Lori? My kid?"

"Patricia and Jimmy died the night farm fell. We survived the winter on the road, and we found a prison. There were prisoners, and Rick killed one, and though he killed another, He didn't, and he let walkers in. T-dog died saving Carol, and Lori went into labor. Maggie had to cut her open to save the baby. Lori died, and Carl...He put her down."

"Jesus Christ," Shane says.

"Maggie and I got caught by a man who called himself the Governor. I got beat up by Merle, and Andrea was there. We got out, and we fought. The Governor killed Merle, and Andrea got bit and shot herself. We had a few months of peace, and he came back and cut Hershel's head off, destroyed the prison. I don't know what happened to Rick, Carl, Daryl, or your daughter, Judith. I don't know if they are alive."

Shane nods as they hear voices outside. "Everybody over there, if they come in, we attack," Abraham says as they move toward the back. Shane moves to the front with Glenn and Abraham. The door opens, and four people walk in. Shane stops when he sees Rick's face.

"Rick," Shane says as he steps into the light, followed by Glenn and the others.

"Shane?" Carl asks as he looks at the man.

"Hi, kid," Shane says and looks back at Rick. "Rick-"

"We have a lot to talk about," Rick says to him. "But for now, I'll say I'm glad you're alive," Rick tells him, and Shane nods as Rick looks at Glenn.

"I'm glad you're here," Rick says as he looks at the others.

"They're our friends," Maggie says.

"Now they're our friends," Daryl says.

"For however long that will be," Abraham says.

"They're gonna feel pretty stupid when they find out," Rick says as he walks towards the door.

"Find out what?" Abraham asks as Rick looks at them.

"They're fucking with the wrong people," Rick growls.

Rick's P.O.V

Rick watched Shane as he used Hershel's watch to cut the wood. He breaks a piece off and holds it out to Rick, who takes it. "I'm sorry about what happened that night," Rick says.

"You shouldn't be," Shane tells him. The others stop and look at the two. "I should be saying sorry to you. What I did that night, you should have killed me for it, but you didn't. I don't know if you knew you didn't kill me."

"I figured the herd got you," Rick tells him. "You have to know. I didn't want to do it."

"I know. I pushed you to that, Rick. Nothing that happened that night was your fault. I'm sorry, Rick, for all of it. I was wrong. You aren't weak. You never were. I should die for what I did to Otis, to Randall, to you. But I'm not dead yet. So I'm trying to make up for it," Shane tells him, and Rick nods as they hear voices outside again.

"Alright, we go for the throat," Rick says as they get into a group.

"Prisoners, put your back against the wall," The man outside says. They all stood ready to fight when the hatch above them opened, and a flash grenade was dropped in there.

"Get down!" Abraham yells as it goes off.

Tyreese's P.O.V

Tyreese stares at Martin as he stares at him with his hand around Judith's neck. "Go outside, or I will kill her," Martin says. Tyreese nods as he backs up towards the door. He stops when the walkers stop growling.

"What the hell?" Martin says before the window breaks, a bullet goes through his neck, and he falls to the ground, grabbing for his throat as he gags on the blood. Tyreese looks at the door as it opens, and a woman steps inside. Followed by another woman, two men, and a teenager.

"Don't kill me. I'm not with them."

"We saw a woman. Leave. Who was she?" The woman asks. The woman had a pale complexion, blue eyes, a round face, a dimpled chin, and short blonde hair. She was of average height with a slim build. She had a machete on her side, behind it, and a knife. On her right side was a handgun holster, and on her was a compound bow and quiver.

"Her name was Carol. His people took some of my people," Tyreese says as one of the men walks past him and stabs Martin in the head.

"They took a friend of ours, too," The man says.

"I'm Octavia," The lead woman says. "This is my brother, Oliver. Our friend, Theo, My sister, Clarke, and my daughter Blake."

Oliver has a slim build and medium height, with brown hair that hangs just above his ears, dark blue eyes, and a prominent nose. He had a shotgun on his back, a 45 revolver on his side, and a buck knife.

Theo has an olive complexion with thick dark brown curly hair and brown eyes. He has a lean, muscular build. He carried a sword on his back and a sawed-off shotgun on his hip.

Clarke has pale skin, green eyes, and long dark brown hair. She has a toned build and is of average height. She had an Ar-15 on her back, a hatchet, and a beretta on her hip.

Blake stood at five feet tall. She had a slim build and long blond hair. She had a knife and a handgun on her hip. "Who'd they take?" Tyreese asks Octavia.

"My husband," She tells him.

Shane's P.O.V

Shane opened his eyes and stood up, looking around the train car. "Shane," Carl says, and Shane looks at the boy. "They took Dad, Daryl, Bob, and Glenn," Carl tells Shane.

"Yeah, they're gonna be okay. We gotta keep working in here for when they get back," Shane reassures the boy, who slowly nods. "We gotta keep working for when they get back."

"If they get back," Abraham says.

"When," Maggie says. "They're gonna be back, so keep working," She growls at the man who keeps working. They stop working. They hear an explosion.

"What the fuck was that?" Abraham asks.

"Maybe someone blew the fence open," Eugene says.

"Let's keep working."

Octavia's P.O.V

Octavia and her group watched the explosion. "Your friend seems to be doing work," Octavia says to Tyreese.

"We need to get down there," Clarke says.

"We stay if Carol is working on something. We don't want to get in the way. Hopefully, she'll find him," Octavia says as she stares at the smoke.

Shane's P.O.V

Shane watched the walkers through the door. "Walkers are in. Come on, Rick."

"We gotta find our own way out," Abraham says. "We don't even know if they are alive."

"They're alive," Shane says, and a second after, the doors are pulled open, and Rick stands by the door.

"Come on, fight your way to the fence!" Rick shouts. Shane gets out and stabs a walker in the head with his .

"Protect Eugene!" Abraham shouts as they fight their way to the fence. They fight together until they reach the fence and start to climb. Shane is the last one over the fence. He follows the group until they stop, and Daryl hands Rick a shovel.

"Why the hell are we stopping?" Abraham asks.

"Supplies, weapons, a little bit of food," Rick says. "We go along the fences and kill the rest."

"No," Shane says. "We just got out, Rick. Let's not go back and get ourselves killed."

"He's right. That place is on fire and filled with walkers," Rosita says.

"They'll die to the walkers, or they'll run. Rick, it's over," Maggie says as Daryl hears footsteps behind him. He turns around and sees Carol. He runs up to her and hugs her as Shane stares at the woman. After a moment, Daryl lets her go, and Rick walks up to her.

"Did you do that?" Rick asks her. She nods, and Rick smiles as he hugs her. Rick lets her go.

"Carol," Shane says as he walks towards the woman, and she looks at him.

"Shane?" Carol says with a smile as she hugs him. "You're alive."

"I am," Shane says.

"You all have to come with me," Carol says, and they nod as they follow.

They follow Carol through the woods and onto a road. They come over a hill as Tyreese steps out of the cabin with Judith. Rick throws his bag to the ground and runs towards them with Carl as Sasha follows. Carol stares at the new group as Shane comes to the front and sees them. He runs down the hill and hugs Octavia, who smiles as she hugs him. He pulls back and kisses her. Shane pulls back.

"I was so worried," Octavia says.

"We're all worried," Oliver says. "If you die, we'll be stuck with her."

"Shut up," Octavia says.

"I'm okay," Shane tells her as he kisses her head. Shane looks at the group that is watching him. "As you said, we have a lot to talk about."

Thanks for reading, and welcome to the road to redemption. Shane is back, and he has a new family and a wife; a lot has changed for him. In the next chapter, more is explained.
