A void of a dark violet color stretched seemingly into infinity. Bizarre, glitching shapes formed in the distance, only to dissipate after seconds. Purple cubes flew through the air, sometimes forming platforms.
On one of these platforms lay an unconscious human girl. She was quite young, around fifteen years old, and her clothes and hair were dyed different shades of red and black. She tossed and turned restlessly, unpleasant memories flooding her mind. Then, with a strong jolt, she awoke from her faint. Her now open eyes were silver in color and filled with confusion as she straightened into a sitting position, rubbing her throbbing head.
"Ow... what happened?" The girl looked around and froze when she realizing in what a... bizarre place she found herself in. "Where am I?"
She got up hastily and looked around for possible danger. But this place was literally empty. Nothing seemed to exist here. Why would she even assume the possibilities of danger? The girl rummaged through her memories. Everything seemed so muddled and jumbled. What happened? Something bad, but what? And how did she get to this place?
Shadowy creatures attacking them... friends and strangers fleeing in panic or fighting... searching for a certain friend who was in danger... death…
Now everything came back. The girl remembered. Even her name. It, alongside the rest of her memories, had slipped from her mind briefly, either from the stress of the past events or because of the influence of this strange place.
Ruby. Her name was Ruby Rose. The Grimm attacked her city. And she wanted to rush to the aid of one of her friends, Pyrrha Nikos, to help her in a fight. Instead, all what Ruby managed to do was seeing Pyrrha being burned to ash by her opponent. At that moment Ruby was overcome with emotion and something…had happened. Some kind of power had awakened within her, manifesting itself in the form of a silver light and taking Pyrrha's murderess and a huge Grimm Wyvern by surprise. Ruby also remembered passing out from the sudden burst of energy, but before that she heard, no, felt a vibration going trough the air and thought she saw a purple mist in the silver light.
… and the next thing she remembered was waking up in this strange place.
But what was this place anyway? Was she maybe dead? On the other hand, Ruby's head was still pounding and she was feeling other after-effects from the hardships she had endured over the past few hours. So she was probably still alive. But if she still was, maybe her enemies were too?
Ruby looked around in worry, but everything was still empty around her. Not that the eerie silence of nothingness was really calming her down. The silver eyed girl looked around for her gun and, much to her relief, found it lying right next to her on the platform. Ruby picked up her beloved 'Crescent Rose', a hybrid of a mechanical scythe and a sniper rifle, and pressed a button on it. The weapon folded, making it easier to stow and carry on the side of Ruby's belt. With her trusty Crescent Rose by her side, Ruby felt a little more comfortable now, as far as the circumstances went. But two questions remained: What was this nothingness? And how did she get out of here?
Ruby took a few steps forward and several cubes floated out of nowhere, expanding the platform in front. At the back, on the other hand, the platform broke up into several cubes that floated away. Ruby took more steps in the same direction and the process repeated. Of course, this phenomenon was very confusing for her, but she was relieved that she wasn't stuck.
Ruby walked through the void for a while, silent and deep in thought. Of course, her mind continued to dwell on how she got here. But she was even more worried about her friends and her sister Yang. They all had been very exhausted from fighting the Grimm and Yang had lost her arm in an attempt of trying to protect Blake.
"I hope you're doing well guys. I'm sorry that I'm not with you. I'm sorry I couldn't save Pyrrha. If I just- AH!"
Ruby staggered and struggled to keep her balance before she managed to jump back. The platform had stopped growing in front of her and she nearly fell into the glitching depths below. Ruby looked over the edge of the platform, then at the path in front of her, and sighed deeply.
"This place doesn't make any sense at all. How am I supposed to continue?"
After a few looks, however, Ruby saw a second platform hovering nearby. And there seemed to be an object lying on top of it that sparkled and glowed.
Something that could help her? Perhaps. Ruby estimated the distance between the two platforms and was sure she could bridge it with her Semblance. Her Semblace gave her the ability to de-materialize into a sort of cloud of red matter and rose petals (don't ask) and travel at high-speeds. She could also go into an intermediate mode of sorts, where she could run faster than all humans without a Speedster Semblance, leaving behind a trail of rose petals.
With this ability, Ruby transformed into a whirling red mass that flew onto the second platform. Though not as effortlessly as the girl had hoped. A strong resistance pressed against her and the violet nothing itself creaked and roared. It was an odd experience. Or rather, it was one odd experience to add to all the other stuff. Luckily, Ruby manifested onto the new platform unharmed and picked up the sparkling item. It was a brilliant green colored gem. Ruby looked at it curiously.
"Is that a Dust Crystal? I've never seen one in such high processing. And it feels way more powerful than any dust I've used in my life."
She looked at the gem a little more, then stowed it away in her inventory. As interesting as the find was, it was nothing that could help her. Instead, Ruby reflected on that odd feeling when she used her Semblance. The resistance had been palpable, as if the air itself was trying to prevent her progress. Or maybe it had been this place. And then there was that cracking, like... something was about to break under pressure.
A crazy idea crossed Ruby's mind: had the speed of her Semblance done harm to the purple nothingness? Almost freeing her from its clutches?
No that wasn't possible.
Right?
On the other hand, everything she had experienced since she had wanted to rush to Pyrrha's aid had been extremely bizarre. So why shouldn't she try to break out of this void with her Semlance? She'd had ideas that were far crazier. So why not giving it a try?
Ruby took a starting position and ran. She quickly activated her Semblance´s entire potential and soared through the void. Again Ruby felt the resistance and heard the creaking, alongside a slight buzzing. She increased her speed. The resistance grew, but so did the noises in volume.
Maybe this really works, Ruby thought. She started mentally cheering herself on: Come on you can do it, you gotta get out of here. You have to go to your families and friends. You have to get out of here. Get out. Get out!
Without her noticing, the gem in Ruby's inventory began to glow more intensely, turning Ruby's thoughts into power. This power was passed on to Ruby and gave her a strong boost. She accelerated even further, and the void vibrated and rumbled, its purple nothingness distorting and partially opening, revealing glimpses of sunlight and sky.
I can do it. I can get out of here! And then Ruby actually erupted out of the void… and collided into something… wet?
I hope the first chapter of my first crossover fic was written well enough. The reason why I´m writing this is because I always thought that the double boost in Sonic Forces would make more sense if Sonic would do it with another speedster. I chose Ruby Rose because I think she and Sonic, alongside the other Mobians, would get along each other well. I also find it kind of funny how most SonicxRWBY crossover have the Sonic cast be isekaied to Remnant while I pulled a Uno reverse card. But while this story may start out has a simple `Ruby replaces the avatar and Classic Sonic´ I intend to make this a rewrite of Sonic Forces story and RWBYs lore. Because both aren´t... well, really good in the original.
Also rest assured RWBY fans, while this fic will be rather Sonic focused, Ruby isn´t the only thing from Remnant that got transported to Mobius. This will be important later on.
