Welcome To My new story the Eternal Love of Twilight. This is my very first Fanfiction so I hope you enjoy it. Originally the next chapters were going to be based on a sequel to another story but I found out that the writer who wrote it took it off the website that I used so I rewrote the Introduction.
After the defeat of Ganondorf Link and Zelda stood in Hyrule field looking at the sunrise behind Ganondorf and Link was happy for a little bit until he remembered that Midna was killed by Ganondorf. He was then saddened to the point of giving up hope on seeing Midna again. Then all of a sudden a bright light shone behind them. Link turned around and he saw the four spirits hovering around a tiny figure. Link noticed right away that it was Midna. He ran to where Midna was but when he got there what he saw was a shock, in front of him wasn't the Midna he recognized but it seemed like it was somebody else. When the figure turned Link was completely shocked so bad that he was speechless. Midna laughed the familiar laugh that he was accustomed to.
"What, am I so beautiful that you have no words left," Midna said. "I know you probably have a lot of questions."
"Yes, I do I thought Ganondorf killed you," Link started.
"Once Ganondorf took my mask I was transported to the heavens where the three Golden Goddesses were."
Link just stood there listening so intently that he didn't notice Zelda standing beside him.
"The Goddesses thanked me for saving you two from Ganondorf and as my reward, they restored me to my true form as to which you see now."
"Do you have to go back to the Twilight Realm?" Link asked.
"Yes, I have to go back because it is my responsibility to get back to my people," Midna replied as they traveled to the Arbiter's Grounds where they first learned about Ganondorf and what they had to do to stop him. Once they arrived Midna activated the portal and launched a ball of twilight energy at it and was about to walk through the portal she paused and looked at Link
"Link I just wanted to tell you that I..." She paused, "See you later." Once she left, the mirror shattered into millions of pieces.
Link just stood there pondering what Midna was going to say.
Why did she have to leave? Link thought I should have told her that I loved her and I wanted to go with her.
Zelda put her hands on his shoulders and he looked up at her.
"There is nothing you can do about the mirror," Zelda said as if trying to comfort him.
"That doesn't help princess!" Link yelled, "I loved her can't you know that."
Link just broke down and cried. Once he was finished he looked up to see if Zelda was still there but she wasn't. He soon regretted yelling at her. He made his way to Hyrule Castle to apologize to Princess Zelda. Once he got to Castle Town the crowd cheered to him. Link looked on in total confusion not knowing the reason they were cheering for him. He just ignored the crowd then made his way to the throne room. Once he got there, Link saw Zelda sitting on her throne.
Link walked up and bowed. "I apologize your highness for the way I yelled at you at the Arbiter's Grounds."
"No, it's alright I understand your feelings," Zelda replied. "That is why I left you alone so you could be at peace."
"Do you know of any other way into the Twilight Realm?" Link asked.
"I'm afraid I don't know."
"Surely there is some way I can see her again."
Zelda just stood there thinking of a way she could help Link. Then something dawned on her.
"Link may I propose an idea to you?"
Link looked up at her and nodded his head.
"How about you join the castle guard and while you are here you can research if there are any other gateways into the Twilight Realm."
"I would like to be assigned to my home in Ordon Village if that is alright with you."
Zelda thought about that for a moment. "I'm afraid you can't be stationed in Ordon Village."
"Why can't I?" Link asked.
"You just can't be thinking about only the village anymore since you are the hero you have to worry about the entire Kingdom of Hyrule." Zelda answered, "But you are more than welcome to vacation there whenever you get one."
"Alright then."
Zelda handed him a letter that she just wrote and Link walked to the barracks to meet his captain. To his shock his captain was Ashei.
"So Link, you have been assigned to my squadron." Ashei said amused, "Just to let you know that you are not in charge."
"I know, Captain Ashei."
"I'm just messin' with you. Come on let me introduce you to the rest of the squad."
Link followed Ashei throughout the barracks until they arrived at the 247 barracks.
"This is where our squad lives at."
They walked in and everyone stopped talking when Ashei walked in. They all fell into line and saluted.
"Gentleman, we have a recruit joining our squad so I would expect for you to show respect otherwise you will be punished by me." Ashei yelled, "This here is Link also know to all of you as the Hero of Light and Shadow. Please introduce yourselves
One by one they walked up to Link. "Hello, Link, my name is Jukie, and I am the assistant captain.
"I'm Domi, and I am the sergeant. This is my assistant Nito." Link shook their hands.
"Link you will get along well with Nito because he doesn't talk very much."
"Lastly these two are Talu and Lizo they are twins."
Link nodded after every introduction.
"Our squad is in charge of escorts of the elders and the royal family."
"In other words, we are trainees to the royal guards."
"Yes, exactly, pretty soon we will be recognized by the princess herself to become knights of the royal guard. Which right now is a real honor since the original royal guards died by Zant when he attacked the Castle."
"I remember Zelda telling me that story when I first ventured out to save Hyrule," Link said.
Two Years Later
Once everyone was told what they will be doing for the day Ashei stopped to talk to Link.
"Link, I have a question for you?"
"Yeah, what is it?"
"When I was near the mansion in the snowpeak ruins I saw a wolf there and I was wondering if that was you."
Link looked at her. "Why would you think that the wolf was me?"
"Because when I tried to follow it I caught up with it but instead of seeing the wolf I saw you."
Link noticed that he really couldn't hide it anymore so he told her the truth.
"Yes that wolf was me. You see when I entered the twilight instead of turning into a spirit like everybody else I turned into a wolf instead."
"That must have been pretty scary to think about."
"No it's not that, it's just..." Link couldn't continue for he feared of breaking down and crying again when Ashei put her hands on his shoulders like Zelda had done.
"You don't have to tell me about it if you don't want to."
"No, it's alright I think that you will be able to tell me from a woman's perspective of what was going on in her mind."
Ashei looked at him curiously, "Who are you talking about?"
"When you saw me as a wolf did you see someone riding the wolf."
Ashei thought about that for a moment. "Actually come to think of it, I did see someone riding the wolf. It was some kind of imp."
"Well you see Ashei, that Imp was my partner throughout my adventures throughout Hyrule. We pretty much done everything together. Pretty soon I fell in love with her and I didn't know how to tell her."
"Did you eventually tell her?" Ashei asked.
Link shook his head. "I never got the courage to actually tell her. For I was focused on saving Hyrule from Zant and Ganondorf."
Link then told her everything up to the moment where Midna shattered the Mirror of Twilight.
"That must have been very tough to not be able to tell her how you feel, " Ashei finally said after a long silence. "You've worked pretty hard for me the last two years so why don't you go home to Ordon Village and come back and see me in two weeks."
Link nodded his head, "Thank you, Ashei."
Link left the barracks and headed to Ordon village which was actually pretty close by. Once he got there Bo, Rusl, and everybody else in the village welcomed him but all he wanted to do was go into his house and finally sleep on a very comfortable bed.
"I will talk to all of you in the morning," Link said as he climbed up the ladder to get to the door of his house.
Link took of his short and pants then laid down and looked at the ceiling for a while.
I wonder what tomorrow is going to bring, Link thought. Little does he know that something is going to happen next that will change his entire life from then on.
