Chapter One:

Throughout the vast and nearly infinite Multiverse, there are many figures in history that can be considered as a constant presence in their respective Universe. An example of this is the presence of the individual referenced as Arch-Eve by the entity known as Singularity. The Umbra Witch known as Cereza, also known as Bayonetta and another title depending on what Universe the specific Variant of Arch-Eve calls home. Much like how there are Variants of Bayonetta herself in the Multiverse, there also exists Variants of Variants. An example of a Variant of a Variant is the one who Singularity designated as Bayonetta B4D78, a Variant of the Variant designed by Singularity as Bayonetta B4, the Phantom Thief Witch.

Much like the Bayonetta she was a Variant of, Bayonetta B4D78 was a phantom thief traveling around the world in search for the various lost artifacts of Umbra Witches that were taken from the Umbra during and after the Witch Hunts, reclaiming them together with her mother, Rosa. All while earning money as street performers during the day. Following a lead to the country of Britain regarding an artifact of possible Umbran origin having been sold to and put on display in the British History Museum, the mother and daughter duo proceeded to scope the place out in normal clothes during the day in order to plan out their heist they would perform at night. While Bayonetta B4D78 didn't really pay it much attention, she noticed that she wasn't the only person who seemed interested in the artifact, a combination between a brace and a glove of some kind that had been used as a training tool for Umbra Witch Apprentices, that she was planning to steal. The only reason Bayonetta B4D78 noticed the other person who seemed interested in the artifact was because of the fact that the artifact was not only still working but also reacting to the person, a young girl who was pressing her hand against the glass case, causing the gems of the artifact to glow, which by itself indicated that the girl not only possessed magical power but also that she was compatible with Umbran Magic.

While Bayonetta B4D78 was no expert on human psychology, let alone children, she couldn't help but notice that the girl pressing her hand against the glass case didn't seem to be particularly happy. A shout in the distance brought the girl's attention away from the Umbran artifact and prompted the girl to (clearly reluctantly) walk away from the glass case towards her apparent family at the room of the exhibit's exit, who the girl didn't share much of a family resemblance with. The closest to one being the fact that the girl and her apparent mother shared hair colors but pretty much no resemblance to her apparent father, unlike the girl's apparent younger brother who looked like a mix between his parents. It wasn't difficult to figure out that the older child of the family was a bastard, as in illegitimate (not necessarily a bad person). Despite neither party knowing it at the time, the theft of the Umbran artifact would set the stage for a set of lives to be interwoven by the red string of fate.
