Living With Complications - Chapters: 10-11

Flooding With The Unexpected - Chapters: 8-9

November

The locker room was empty except for Triton drying his hair with a towel. It was only six in the morning and he just gotten done with his morning swim practice.

Deeming that his hair was dry enough he tied it up and slung his backpack over his right shoulder before making an exit.

To his dismay someone was waiting outside the locker room.

"Castellan, what do I owe the pleasure?"

Luke grinned, the light reflecting on his shiny teeth seemed almost sinister, "Olympion, did your web feet break another record?"

Triton ignored his comment, instead observing that Luke was unusually alone, "Where's your sidekick?"

Luke's grin slipped into a smirk, "I have Nakamura on observation duty."

"Observation of what?"

Luke shrugged, "You'll find out later."

An uneasy feeling swept over Triton over that comment. Luke has never been straightforward, he liked to leave his words up to interpretation.

Triton thinking the conversation was over turned his back towards Luke and started his walk away from Castellan.

"One more thing. Why don't you and Jackson share the last name even though you share the same father?"

Triton stopped in his tracks. He shouldn't be surprised, they looked too similar for them not to be connected. He didn't think Luke would actually guess their relation correctly as it was not as common.

He also knew that Luke was aware of Percy's existence as he ran into them back in August. He figured maybe Percy relented some information. Triton's eye twitched as he thought he made it clear to him not to.

Luke continued, "I asked Grace the same question last year but she didn't give me a full answer. Jackson hasn't mention even being related to you, so I wasn't getting any answers from him. I asked a different family member and they were vague."

Triton turned around to look at Luke. He was still leaning against the wall with his hands in his pockets. The smirk still graced his features.

If it wasn't Percy or Thalia then who was the family member? Jason maybe? But he highly doubted it as Jason never interacted with people he didn't like.

"I'll see you in third period, Olympion."

Triton frowned as he stared at the stingrays. The lever was flipped to not fed, but every other tank had been fed. It's very unusual for every tank to be fed but one.

He felt his father presence nearby so he asked, "Did somebody already feed the stingrays?"

"I asked Percy to do it. He should of have already fed them by now, but he never forgets to switch the lever afterwards." Poseidon walked towards the tank and frowned seeing the lever was switched to not fed.

Triton shook his head at the tank before looking up at the familiar clicking of a crutch.

Percy held the tray of food for the stingrays with one hand and held his crutch with the other.

"Took you long enough." Triton muttered and took the tray from his hands and began tossing the food to the stingrays. He was half listening to the conversation his father and Percy was having.

"Did something happen? You look troubled."

"I-um. Did you hire two new employees?"

Triton paused between a toss, there was nobody new here. Why would Percy think that if he knew everyone here?

Poseidon frowned, "No. Why do you ask that?"

"There was two older men by the cooler. They knew my name but I didn't recognize them. They already left to the parking lot, anyways."

Is Percy on shrooms? There's no older men here besides Nerus, but he was on a call.

"Stay here and help Triton. I'll be back." Their father left them alone.

Triton rolled his eyes, he didn't want to be on babysitting duty, especially if Percy was under the influence of something. He finished feeding the stingrays before checking on the other tanks. The other tanks have already been fed, he just needed to check if the temperature was set correctly.

Triton still held onto the tray as he checked the other tanks. He would put it away once he finished his rounds. He normally would've handed it to Percy to take care of, but he didn't trust his state of mind.

They made it to the turtle tank before their father returned. "Alright so I asked every employee around, and no one saw those men. I checked the security cameras by the cooler and I did see them on the cams. They are not employees, ask them to leave if you see them in the future. Now our security cameras quality is terrible, so I couldn't make out their appearance other than their clothes and that they have grey hair. Percy you said that they knew your name. Are you sure you don't recognize them?"

Triton raised a brow, so he wasn't on shrooms then.

Percy shook his head, "I would have remembered if I seen them before. I never seen eyes like that before."

"Eyes like what?" Poseidon asked.

"One of them has these deep blueish grey eyes, the other man has the color of gold."

Triton's face instantly drained of color and he dropped the tray he was holding as his body froze. He preferred the idea of Percy being under the influence than the reality.

Triton has never met him in person, but his father warned about him. By the description of the eye color he knew exactly who Percy was talking about.

Poseidon his throat. "I take that back, if either one of you see them in the future, do not confront them, find me immediately then leave. Now what exactly did they tell you Percy."

"The one with the gold eyes said I must be Percy and I looked more straggly than he imagined."

Percy cleared his throat before continuing, "The other one with blue grey eyes agreed, and said he would see me later. They left after that. I'm guessing that you both who know whom I'm talking about, don't you?"

Poseidon nodded. "Percy that was your grandfather and his brother Oceanus. It is very important that either of you do not make contact with them. They are not friendly people, they seek to harm, and harm shall come if they get close to you. I'm not quite sure how they knew who you were, but it isn't good."

Poseidon sighed. "I need to make some calls. Go finish your rounds for now. Do not split up, stay together, until I figure out what to do."

Triton nodded in agreement. After hearing the story about Bianca, Triton wasn't comfortable with being alone. He bent down and grabbed the tray off the floor before continuing his rounds to check on the tanks.

The Next Day

"Olympion, what's with the sour face?"

Triton closed his eyes. He wasn't in the mood to deal with Luke's antics.

"Castellan, why are you still here? You're usually the first one to leave the building when school ends."

Luke chuckled, "You'll find out later."

Triton was getting tired of that phrase. He opened his locker to grab his car keys he kept stored in there.

"I want your opinion on what prompt I should choose for the essay we were given in English class?

Triton narrowed his eyes, "Why are you asking me?"

"I feel like you might understand the prompt; How family can break apart when one member goes haywire."

Triton's blood ran cold. There was only one member that fit that description and it was very unsettling Luke brought it up after yesterday's events.

He knew that neither Thalia nor Jason would've told Luke as they never mentioned their grandfather to anyone. Percy just found out about him so it wouldn't be him as well.

"I don't know anything about the prompt. You should ask somebody else."

Luke let out a hearty laugh which chilled Triton's blood further.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Olympion."

Triton watched Luke leave wearily, barely taking notice of his phone vibrating. Once Luke was out of site he pulled out his phone to read the text his father sent him.

Don't go to the aquarium after school. Bring Percy home with you as we have some things to discuss.

Triton had a pretty good idea as to what they needed to discuss after yesterday's revelation.

He shut his locker before heading towards the exit. He spotted Percy next to his car waiting.

"What took you so long." Percy grumbled.

Triton ignored him as he didn't quite know what to make out of his brief encounter with Luke. He instead started the car and headed back home.

The car ride was silent, which Triton was grateful for. Most times the car was silent but sometimes Percy will try to talk but Triton never responded to him.

It only took ten minutes before he was pulling into the drive way. He let Percy get out before waiting a few minutes and walking in the house.

His parents were sitting at the kitchen table and his father beckoned him to sit besides Percy at the kitchen table.

"As you both know, your grandfather knows who you are and made contact."

His father paused glancing between him and Percy. He slouched further into his chair under his father's gaze.

"As I said he is a dangerous man. Percy there are some things I need to tell you, so you can understand how psychotic this man is."

Percy crossed his arms "Do you mean what he did to Bianca?"

His father's back stiffened and turned towards Triton's mother. She shook her head no, then his father transferred his gaze towards him.

He held his hands out in surrender not liking his father's questioning gaze, "I didn't tell him."

Percy raised his brow, "Thalia told me. She thought that I would have known that by now."

His father let out a quiet hiss, "Well I kinda of hoped I didn't need to, but after yesterday... There's more you need to know. "

"My father never approved of your mother and I's relationship." Triton rolled his eyes. Great now he has to listen about his father's other affair with another woman besides his mother.

He didn't realized he tuned out most of the conversation until Poseidon set down the coffee cup and making eye contact with him.

"My father doesn't make idle threats. He did try multiple times to make me bankrupt and unemployed, though the attempts failed. He made threats towards Bianca and succeeded."

He watched as his father took out a piece of paper from his pocket, "Sons. I received this letter on my desk at work. It's a death threat directed at the both of you."

"Your grandfather is a very powerful man. You need to know that no one is gonna help us. This man showed that he is above the law and can commit any crime he pleases. Both of you need to be vigilant at all times. This is very serious."

Triton stared ahead bearing no expression as his father gave the warning. His head was in another space as he was dwelling on the conversation he had earlier with Luke.

Poseidon dismissed Percy from the table, thinking that he was also dismissed he stood up.

"Sit back down, Triton." Poseidon commanded.

Triton slunk back down onto the chair, crossing his arms. Great, what now?

"You are aware of how serious this is, right?" Poseidon asked seeking confirmation.

Triton rolled his eyes and nodded. He was full aware of how serious the situation was, but his mind was still processing how Luke could've known about his grandfather.

"Well, you don't seem to be taking it seriously. This is the most dire situationally you have ever been in, and you're just sitting there without a care in the world. Hell, even your

half-twit brother has a better understanding than you." Amphitrite grumbled.

Triton frowned, he was expecting his father to throw insults towards him not his mother.

"And what is with your attitude? The past couple weeks you have been running your mouth and acting like a narcissistic asshole-"

"Amphitrite. I think that's enough." Poseidon nudged his wife, surprised at her outburst.

Triton stared at his mother taken aback. She has never spoken towards him in that matter before. He glanced between his mother and father, "Am I excused?"

Amphitrite snorted throwing her arms in the air, "I don't know why I still bother? You're excused."

Triton booked it upstairs before Poseidon could blink. He's glad that's over, now he'll find the time to start thinking on who Luke got the information from.

It was the next day and Triton was walking towards his class. He stopped once he heard a familiar voice around the corner.

He slowly crept around the corner to see who Luke was talking to and his blood boiled once he saw he was talking with Percy.

"You think we're idiots, Jackson? C'mon, you really didn't think I wouldn't have figured it out. You two are almost identical, even Nakamura could see it." He gestured towards Ethan's eyepatch.

The bell interrupted Luke from continuing.

"See you later Jackson. Wouldn't want to be off guard now would ya?" From the distance Triton was observing he could see Luke give a smirk before making his departure.

Triton waited for Luke to fully disappear before he quickly walked towards his half brother. Percy shut his locker and lifted his leg to take a step but Triton got to him before he could so. Triton grabbed Percy's hair and dragged him towards an empty corner.

"What are you doing with Luke?" Triton asked letting go of his grasp.

"Nothing! Why did you drag me here? Why do you care anyways? He already knows that we are related".

"I'm very well aware of that. That isn't the point. What did he say to you?"

"What did he say?" Why does it matter what he said to me? Again why do care?"

"Damn it Perseus! It matters! WHAT DID HE SAY?" Triton grabbed Percy's shoulders and shook him with every word. He needed to know the beginning of the conversation he walked into. Luke could've said something related to their grandfather and he needed to know.

"He didn't say much. He noticed the tension going through all of us and wanted to know why. I never gave him a response."

Triton dropped his hands from Percy's shoulders. "You need to stay away from him. I mean it Percy. Stay away."

"Triton you're not making any sense. What is going on? And you still haven't answered my question about why you even care in the first place."

Triton just shook his head before heading off. It was better that he didn't know what Triton was alluding to, Percy was never good about being secretive.

Triton justified his brief conversation with Percy to drill out the information, not that he actually cared for Percy's wellbeing.
