Arabella sat in her living room at her house, awaiting the arrival of her two best friends, Leo and Arianne. The three teenagers were all sixteen as of Leo's birthday last week, so they were legally allowed to go on a Pokemon journey here in Rasun. The three teenagers agreed to go on their journeys together. Today, they were supposed to be escorted from their hometown of Nimbus Town to the neighboring town of Roseburg Town to choose their starter Pokemon from Professor Hazel's lab. Rasun didn't have its own set of starter Pokemon, so trainers in this region were allowed to choose starters from the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola, or Galar regions. There was a wide variety to choose from, so Arabella still had no idea who she would leave Professor Hazel's lab with later today. The front door of Arabella's home opened. Leo and Arianne walked in.
Leo, a boy with bright red hair and a bold personality to match, sat next to Arabella. "I'm so excited to finally get Pokemon today and go on our journey! I've been waiting on this for my entire life! Sorry about just walking in by the way, Arabella."
Arabella shrugs. "It's alright. I don't mind. My parents aren't even here."
Arianne, a quiet girl with blonde hair, gave Arabella a concerned look. "They aren't here?"
Arabella sighs as she brushes back a piece of her brown hair. "No, they aren't here. They left me this backpack to travel with and some money before telling me to make sure to pack clothes. They went to go visit some of our family in Divinity City."
Secretly, Arabella had no issue with her parents going to visit family on the day she started her Pokemon journey. She has been constantly compared to her older sister, who has become a successful trainer, for her entire life and didn't need that today.
"That's not cool of them. My mom was practically crying when I left to come over here."
Leo laughs. "I think my parents wanted me to leave. I haven't shut up about this day for months."
"I think you mean years."
"Whatever. Who's supposed to be escorting us to Roseburg Town?"
Arabella shrugs. "I have no clue at all. Maybe Professor Hazel got an assistant."
"I hope not." Arianne comments. "I was hoping to take that position after finishing my journey."
"I guess we'll find out when whoever they are gets here."
Leo grins as the two girls. "Do you know what starter you're going to choose yet?"
"You already know?" Arianne asks in confusion.
"I don't know which one specifically, but I'm going to choose a fire type."
"It certainly matches up with your personality, but it won't work well against Champion Marina's Samurott."
"I'll find a way around that when I challenge her to become Rasun Region Champion. For now, I'm finding my partner Pokemon. What about you two?"
"I have no idea."
"I think that's something you figure out when you're with the Pokemon, Leo." Arabella says.
Leo shrugs. "Oh well. Whenever you two decide though, be prepared because I'm immediately going to have Pokemon battles with both of you."
"Talking about battling already?" A female voice asks. "Couldn't even wait until you chose your starter Pokemon? Making rash decisions as always I see, Leo."
The three teenagers looked at the brunette who stood in the doorway. It was Brooke, who recently had become the gym leader in Drizzleton City and was Arabella's cousin.
"Hi, Brooke." Arabella says as she hugs Brooke. "What are you doing here?"
"You didn't think Uncle Aaron and Aunt Mara would leave without you being in safe hands, did you, Bella?" Brooke asks. "I'm escorting the three of you to Roseburg Town to get your starter Pokemon from Professor Hazel."
"Really?" Leo asks. "That's awesome!"
"Not to be rude or anything, Brooke." Arianne says. "But I'm surprised that we were left in the care of someone who is only two years older than us."
Brooke laughs. "Well, Arianne, I'm a gym leader and related to Arabella. I know exactly what I'm doing. You'll be just fine with me. Now, how about we get headed to Nimbus Woods, so we can get to Roseburg Town to get your starter Pokemon and begin your journeys?"
The three teenagers and the gym leader were walking through Nimbus Woods to get to Roseburg Town when a wild Pansear jumped directly in front of them. The four stopped in their tracks.
Brooke tossed a Poké Ball in the air. "Step back and learn, kids. I'm going to show you three how to catch a Pokemon. Palpitoad! Time to shine!"
A blue toad Pokemon appeared in front of the red monkey Pokemon, Pansear. The three teenagers stood in awe. Pansear went to scratch Palpitoad.
"Palpitoad, dodge and use Bubblebeam!" Brooke ordered.
Palpitoad dodged and shot bubbles at the Pansear. Pansear stumbled and was weakened.
"Palpitoad, use Mud Shot!"
Palpitoad smiled before hurling mud at Pansear. Pansear was weakened even more. Brooke pulled out another Poké Ball.
"Go! Poké Ball!" Brooke threw the Poké Ball at Pansear.
Pansear was absorbed into the Poké Ball. It shook three times before clicking.
Brooke walked over and picked up the Poké Ball that now belonged to Pansear. "And that, kids, is how you catch a Pokemon. Let's continue on to Roseburg Town. Palpitoad, return. Any questions?"
The three teenagers stared as Palpitoad went back into its Poké Ball.
"That was so cool." Leo says as they begin to start walking again.
"It was, wasn't it?" Brooke replies. "You three will be able to do that on your own very soon."
"Awesome!"
"What are you going to do with Pansear since you run a water type gym, Brooke?" Arabella asks.
Brooke laughs. "Don't be so dim minded, Bella. Just because my gym is specialized in water types, it doesn't mean I don't have other Pokemon. I didn't travel all of Rasun and just catch water types. I have plenty of Pokemon that are other types. I only use just water types when I have a gym battle. You three will see when you come to challenge me."
"Oh. I understand. That was a dumb question."
"No, it wasn't. Questions are only dumb when they aren't asked. Here we are, Roseburg Town. The Pokemon Lab is only a couple roads over."
"This is really cool." Arianne comments. "Thanks for bringing us, Brooke."
"It was my pleasure. I'm glad to be here to witness this. You'll only get to start your Pokemon journey once. Treasure this experience. Here it is, the Pokemon Lab. Let's go get you three your first Pokemon."
