A/N: Hello, everyone! After two years and nearly three months, I am back! I am so sorry about the wait. I took a break since the holidays were approaching after I finished the second story, then I got caught up with Criminal Minds episodes since I was only on season nine and hadn't seen the rest of the episodes/seasons, then my sister got me hooked on a show called 911 which I HAD to watch from beginning to end because I would get anxiety (which I don't get normally, but because they were real situations, it caused it to spike.), and then as I was writing, I got an extremely bad case of writer's block. You see, I knew what I wanted to happened before and after a certain part, but I got stuck in the middle. But, now I am back! A few things to go over: I don't own any of the Black Butler characters only my character Frances Marlino and her siblings. This will be a combination of Season Two and my own writing. There will be more sexual content than before and as usual there will be a line where it starts and where it ends. I also changed my posting schedule to Friday instead of Monday. I hope you all are ready for one hell of a ride! Enjoy!
Black Butler: TWWSP: Darkness Surrounds Her
Prologue
Frances' eyes opened to see a fog-like mist surrounding her. She blinked a few times and rubbed her eyes to clear it. However, when she reopened her eyes, the mist was still there. She looked around. There was nothing to be seen. No steel structures. No buildings on fire. Only this thick fog. She took a step forward on bare feet. She only realized her feet were bare when she felt the water beneath her, even though she barely felt it. She looked down to see she was walking on dark waters and that her feet were indeed bare. Not only that, but she was no longer in her black dress. She was now in a white nightgown with the bottom of the gown burning with flames, turning it black.
"Interesting." She whispered.
Surprisingly, it didn't frighten her. She did also note that her hair was loose and flowing down her back. She looked back up at her surroundings.
"Is this… what Sebastian's stomach looks like?" She wondered before shaking her head, "No, I don't think he ate me. The pain would be even more excruciating than being struck by angel feathers… And besides, he wouldn't have let the Young Master see him do such a thing…"
She began to walk forward.
"Am I in… Purgatory then?" She wondered as she began to look around, trying to find something that told her where she was.
She didn't get very far when suddenly, she stopped.
Male voice: Your~~~~~ eyes see, but my sha~~~~~~~dow~~~~~~~~.
Her eyes closed.
*Malphas.*
She reopened her eyes. Her vision was blurred from the tears that filled them. His voice seemed to come from all around, wrapping around her as the fog did, caressing her with his voice alone. She looked around, trying to find him as he sang.
Malphas: ...there's~~~~~~ so much you could come~~~~ to know~~~~~~. You're~~~~~ content not know~~~~ing~~~~~~. Tenderly~~~~~~, you~~ will~~ see~~~~ my~~~~~~~~~~~ soul~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!*
His voice echoed all around her and inside her.
"Malphas." She breathed, "Where are you? Why can't I see you?" She asked, trying to find him once again.
"Do not concern yourself with that right now, Frances." He said, sternly yet soothingly, "I need you to return to your body. I need you to return to the manor. I shall be with you soon."
She nodded.
"I'm coming, Malphas! I'm on my way!" She called out, running through the fog.
Soon she reached a very thick cloud of fog that blew through her as she ran. Her world turned dark.
...
...
...
Frances' eyebrows furrowed as she felt warmth upon her face. It was as if the sunlight was streaming through a window straight over her face. She opened her eyes. She blinked a few times to adjust to the light. Once her eyes had adjusted, she stared at the blue sky above her. She slowly sat up, wincing and whimpering as she did so. She looked down at her body to see her dress tattered and torn and slightly covered in blood. She furrowed her brows in confusion, knowing she would have been soaked in blood. She looked through the eight holes that were made from Ash/Angela's feathers ranging from her breasts to her stomach. She smiled as she found why she wasn't drenched in her own blood. She touched through the hole above her right breast, feeling the bandages that Sebastian wrapped her in, though her appreciation was short-lived as she winced and hissed slightly in pain for her wounds were still tender. She slowly and carefully stood up. She looked around. There was blood everywhere.
*Well, Sebastian destroyed that angel…* She thought, looking around at the completely demolished steel structure of the bridge.
There was no angel in sight though. She summoned a new black dress. She ducked behind a particularly large steel structure and changed into the dress. She took out her hairdo and quickly placed it in a low half bun so it was out of her face.
She carefully made her way out of the towering and dangerous steel debris. Once out onto the streets, she looked around. The streets seemed to be empty. Structures were destroyed, trash, and ash littered the ground.
*How many days was I out?* She wondered ideally as she tried to find people.
Suddenly, she heard a voice speaking loud and clear.
"And yet, perhaps this was God's way of testing our spirits. (She turned the corner and saw a large crowd with a woman in black with the Royal Guards dressed in white on either side of her. She came to a halt and watched as the "Queen" moved the black veil from her face to show a woman who looked eerily similar to the previous Queen except for the sharpness of her face. This woman's features were a bit softer.) We stood firm in the face of disaster, and used our very sorrows as fuel to rise up again. And we greet the new century, a new British Empire is being born!"
The crowd cheered.
Frances shook her head in amusement.
*Humans are so gullible. Though, I suppose the Queen did help by wearing her veil all the time.*
She walked away from the gathered crowd. As she made her way through the streets, she saw a Pubkeeper handing out water and Angi and Soma nearby giving away curry buns. Prince Soma's eyes widened as they met hers.
"Frances!" He shouted, causing everyone to turn towards her.
Frances smiled and waved at them as a blush formed on her cheeks as everyone stared. Prince Soma ran to her, the crowd parted for him to go through. Agni excusing themselves for a moment before he followed his Prince. Prince Soma hugged her tightly. She hugged him back just as tightly. They parted, though he held her shoulders.
"Are you all right? (Agni had reached them and inclined his head towards her. She inclined her own head towards him before focusing back on the Prince.) We were so worried when we received no word from Ciel, right Agni?" Prince Soma asked, looking at his khanasama.
Agni nodded.
"Yes, we were extremely worried. I am glad to see you are safe." Agni said, his hands placed together in prayer.
"Wait!" Prince Soma shouted, turning back to her with wide eyes, "Where is Ciel and his khanasama?"
Frances looked away.
"I'm not sure." She lied, "The Young Master sent me to check the manor while he and Sebastian went to check on the Queen. I-I've been separated from them since…"
Prince Soma looked sad and forlorn. She placed a gentle hand upon his shoulder causing his sadden golden eyes to meet hers.
"I'm sure they'll be all right, Prince Soma." She said, squeezing his shoulder gently.
He gave her a small smile. She looked at Agni.
"Do you two know where Mey-rin, Bard, Finny, and Tanaka are?" She asked.
Suddenly, she could feel her siblings' nerves and worry as they most likely were reading what had happened here.
Agni nodded.
"Mey-rin, Finny, and Bard have been taken to the hospital. We are unsure of Mister Tanaka's whereabouts though."
Frances nodded. A small smile appeared on her face.
"Thank you. Excuse me, I'm going to go check on them."
She made to walk away when Prince Soma spoke causing her to stop.
"We'll come too! We want to check on them as well."
Frances nodded.
"Very well, then. Let's go."
On their way to the hospital, Frances found out it was merely three days that she had been dead. She wondered where she was in that fog covered place, which Reaper had gathered her Cinematic Record, and how she got them back. She pushed these thoughts away as well as her siblings' growing worry when they reached the hospital. After speaking to the nurse on staff, she allowed the three of them to visit their friends.
Frances' breath caught in her throat at the sight of them. They were all asleep. Bruises, cuts, and bandages littered their bodies.
"Dr. Martin will be here shortly." The nurse said.
"Thank you." Frances said, turning to her before looking back at her friends.
She walked towards them. She could sense they were still alive. They were just completely exhausted. She stood between Mey-rin and Finny, gently stroking their hair.
"Thank you. I know that wasn't easy." She whispered.
She walked over to Bard and took his hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. Her heart clenched as her siblings' anxiety rose. Her brows furrowed as she rubbed her chest where her heart laid.
"Frances?" Agni asked, worry laced in his voice.
"I'm fine." She assured him. Though as she looked at him, she could see the doubt on his face so she changed the subject, "Do you two happen to know if those in a dark green building are all right?"
Their eyes widened. She walked towards them.
"That was you?!" Prince Soma asked, surprised.
"Um… yes." She said, hesitantly.
"I thought Ciel ordered you to check the manor?" He asked.
She stopped in front of them.
"He did. However, I wasn't going to not help people on my way there."
"There was over seventy people there! The Queen has been asking for the person responsible!"
Frances' eyes widened.
"What?!" She asked, shocked.
"It is true." Agni told her, "I'd reckon she'll be giving you a medal."
Frances looked down to quickly process this information. After a moment, she looked back up at them, an urgent look in her eyes.
"I need you both to promise me you won't tell anyone it was me."
"But… Miss Frances…" Agni started.
Frances cut him off, grabbing both his and Prince Soma's hand.
"Please!" She pleaded, urgently, "I'll go to her later, just not now."
They stared at her in stunned silence. They slowly nodded.
"Very well."
"Jo ajna."
Prince Soma and Agni said respectfully.
At that moment, the doctor came in holding a clipboard.
"Phantomhive Party?" He asked, lowering the clipboard.
Frances released their hands, turning to the doctor. Agni and Soma also looked at him.
"Yes, Sir." The three of them said.
He smiled at them.
"Your friends suffered some scratches and a few burns and bruises. The little one (He gestured to Finny.), has a concussion. They are extremely dehydrated and exhausted; however, they will recover."
Frances smiled. Agni and Prince Soma placed their hands together in prayer.
"Thank Kali!" They both exclaimed.
"They will need their rest, but they'll be able to walk out of here in three to four days."
Frances nodded.
"Thank you, Doctor." She grunted, "Does anyone have any paper, ink, and a pen I could use, please?"
"Of course." The Doctor said, handing her the items she requested.
"Thank you." She said, accepting them.
She wrote a quick note, telling her siblings that she was fine and she would see them once things had calmed down. She discreetly sent the note to them by placing it in her pocket. She handed the other items back to the Doctor, feeling her siblings' relief causing her to relax.
"Thank you." She said, smiling at the Doctor.
"You're welcome. You can stay as long as you'd like. However, visiting hours do end at seven in the evening."
"Thank you, Doctor." Frances said again, inclining her head.
He nodded back to her. He turned and left the room.
"We should be heading out as well, now that we know they're all right." Prince Soma said.
Frances nodded.
"I'll come with you. I need to see the damage to the manor and find the whereabouts of Tanaka. Can you ask everyone if they've seen him, please?"
"Of course, Frances!" Soma said, hugging her, "We'll keep a sharp eye out too."
He released her. She smiled at him.
"I appreciate it."
She looked at her friends.
"I'll be back soon." She told them.
She turned. She walked out of the room. Agni and Prince Soma followed after her. They made their way outside. Once they were outside, they parted ways. Surprisingly, she was able to get a carriage rather quickly. As they drove to the Phantomhive Manor, they passed many destroyed structures and people helping others. She smiled slightly.
As the carriage pulled to a stop in front of the Phantomhive Manor, a sigh escaped her lips. The structure was completely demolished. Just like it was that day. As her feet landed on the gravel, she turned to the driver and told him she would be back in about forty-five minutes. He nodded, agreeing to wait for her. She made her way down the driveway. When she stepped foot onto the driveway, a feeling that someone was here filled her. She got about halfway down the drive when the feeling grew. Her eyes squinted as she spotted a silhouette walking towards her. Her eyes widened. She gasped. She ran towards him. The older man opened his arms wide. She ran into them gently.
"Tanaka!" She cried, wrapping her arms around him in a tight hug.
"Frances." He said, calmly, running a hand down her hair like a grandfather would a granddaughter.
She looked up at him with a giant smile and tears in her eyes. She blinked them away.
"I'm so glad you're all right!"
He smiled at her.
"I am glad you're all right too, Frances."
"I hope you weren't here the entire time." Frances said.
Tanaka shook his head.
"No. I just arrived a few moments before you did." He explained.
She nodded.
"Good. Where are you staying?"
"The Townhouse. Now, before we go further, I must discuss some important matters with you." He said, his eyes serious.
"Yes?" She asked.
In response, he handed her an envelope. Her eyebrows furrowed as her head tilted. It had her name in Ciel's writing, her given first name and made up last name.
"What's this?" She asked, opening the envelope.
She read the contents of the letter. Her eyes widened with every word. When she was finished, her head snapped up to look at Tanaka who was smiling at her.
"The previous Earl Phantomhive was going to endorse my oils and potions?! And the Young Master trusts me enough to take over his company and the Phantomhive lands?!" She asked, utterly shocked and surprised.
Tanaka smiled at her.
"The previous Earl was pleased with the way your oils and potions worked. He had made plans to assist you in expanding your business and was going to present them to you the following day, however…"
The two shared a sad look. Tanaka gave her a sad smile. He cleared his throat and continued on.
"Yes. The Young Master has trusted you with his life and he knows you will run his business the same way he had… Perhaps even better. He is proud that you'll be the face of the company."
Her eyebrows knitted together and her head tilted.
"But," She said, "you're the face of the company."
He smiled at her.
"Please read the second page."
She switched the pages.
It read: I, Mr. Tanaka, retire from head of the Funtom Company.
Her eyes widened further. Her head snapped up to meet his eyes again.
"Tanaka…" She whispered, her voice full of emotion.
"I am an old man, Frances. Even with your potion, I barely last a day."
She stared at him with wide eyes for a moment, still shocked and surprised by this overwhelming information. Suddenly, a determined look entered her eyes. She squared her shoulders and gave a curt nod.
"I will make you all proud and run the Funtom Company."
Tanaka smiled at her. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
"Come then, we have much to discuss."
She nodded.
"Yes, we do. However, I would like a chance to look around. To see how badly damaged everything is, please."
Tanaka smiled. He nodded, releasing her.
"Very well, Mistress (A small wave of emotion flowed through her at the word. It was slightly strange to be acknowledged as such. Tanaka's smile widened.) I shall meet you at the carriage when you're ready."
She nodded, smiling bashfully.
"Thank you, Tanaka."
He nodded once more, turned, and walked down the driveway.
Frances turned to the crumbling structure. She entered it to see bits and pieces of furniture, artwork, and parts of the walls remained. She made her way to where her room was. Parts of her bed, armoire, and desk remained. She stared at her bed, a smile crossing her lips as she recalled the first time Sebastian stripped her naked to touch her. She placed a hand on her heart, eyes closed as she felt his happiness at her return. She opened her eyes and made her way to her jewelry box. She pulled out the three rose necklace Sebastian gave her for Christmas. She gently caressed the middle rose. She slipped it into her pocket. She also went to the picture frame that remained untouched by the fire. She took it off the wall. She lightly touched where Sebastian was, hugging it close. She turned it around to her siblings side and smirked at the picture. She hugged it close to her chest again. She made her way out of the manor. As she exited the manor, she heard meowing. She looked down to see Sebastian's black cats standing beside the broken door. She smiled and knelt down to pet them. They purred and climbed into her lap to rub their faces against her. She giggled quietly.
"Hello, little ones. So, you two managed to survive. I'm happy to see you. I know Sebastian will be too. (She cuddled them.) Come on (She moved them into her arms as she stood, careful not to drop her frame.). Let us head to the Townhouse."
She walked down the driveway to the carriage. Tanaka opened the door for her.
"Thank you." She said, climbing in.
He gave her a nod. He looked down at the cats before looking into her eyes, amusement dancing within. He climbed in after her, tapped the roof of the carriage, and the two of them took off towards the Townhouse.
