Chapter 2

The Start of a Wonderful Friendship

After showing Puppycorn around the castle, Hawkodile led his adoptive sibling to the lab. The dog looked around and was surprised to see so many machines and gadgets. Even though he doesn't know Dr. Fox so well, Puppycorn can tell that she is very passionate about science.

"Wow! This is so cool!" Puppycorn exclaimed as he gazed at the lab in wonder.

"Why, thank you! I made all of this myself with a little assistance from my robot helpers!" Dr. Fox stepped forward to greet Puppycorn. "It's nice to finally meet you, Puppycorn! Hawkodile has told me a lot about you!"

"And Hawkodile has told me a lot about you too, Dr. Fox! He always tells me how cool, cute, and amazing you are and.-"

Before Puppycorn could say another word, Hawkodile placed a gloved hand over his mouth to keep him from embarrassing him any more. Dr. Fox blushed slightly before she gave a slight smile.

"You know, I think you are pretty amazing too, Hawkodile!" Dr. Fox admitted.

"Okay. Let's just focus on our meeting." Richard floated into the lab as well. "For our first order of business, we will be discussing paperwork we haven't gotten to yet."

In response to this, Puppycorn groaned in boredom. Even when he was in a super cool lab, this Richard guy is somehow able to suck the fun out of it. He took a quick glance at Hawkodile and Dr. Fox and could tell that they were bored too.

Desperate to leave, Puppycorn quietly sneaked out of the lab so he won't have to listen to any more of Richard's talks about paperwork. Once he left the lab, Puppycorn decided to take this opportunity to explore the rest of the castle. For the passed couple of moments, Puppycorn ran through the halls, admiring every room he came across.

Unfortunately, the dog didn't see where he was going and ended up running into someone, knocking them both to the floor. Before long, Puppycorn recovered to see that it was Unikitty he crashed into.

"P-Princess Unikitty! I'm really sorry! I didn't see you!" Puppycorn apologized before he helped Unikitty back up.

"Oh, it's okay!" Unikitty assured with a smile. "You're Puppycorn, right? It's nice to officially meet you! How are you enjoying the castle so far?"

"It's actually pretty cool!" Puppycorn admitted. "I can see why you enjoy living here so much!"

Unikitty giggled. "Yes, it is pretty great. I can show you the outside of the castle too if you want."

Surprised by the offer, Puppycorn replied, "Are you sure? I don't want to get you in trouble."

"It's okay! I've been looking for an excuse to get out of the royal duties Richard had for me, anyway! Let's go!"

With that, Unikitty took Puppycorn's paw before leading him out the castle. Once she led Puppycorn outside, Unikitty decided to have fun and play a couple of games with him. They played hide and seek together as they took turns hiding. Puppycorn struggled to find Unikitty while Unikitty easily managed to find him every single time.

After a few rounds, Puppycorn hid himself in a bush, hoping Unikitty won't find him easily this time. Just when he thought he was going to win this time, Unikitty suddenly jumped into the bush, startling him.

"Found you!"

Puppycorn let out a scream before he fell out of the bush, leaving the two friends laughing.

"Aw, no fair! You know the castle grounds way better than I do!" Puppycorn laughed.

"I guess you're right about that!" Unikitty replied with a smile. "Did you have fun?"

Puppycorn nodded. "I sure did! You are really fun to hang out with, Princess Unikitty!"

"Please, just call me Unikitty!" Unikitty insisted.

Once they were done playing outside, Unikitty and Puppycorn decided to return to the castle. They only to a few steps before they took notice of a figure in a cloak who was spray painting the castle. They all had insulting messages that talked about how dumb Unikitty was. This caused Puppycorn to glare at the stranger for insulting Unikitty like that. Unikitty and Puppycorn approached the stranger, who turned to them with a smug grin.

"Well, if it isn't Uni-dork!" The stranger said as Unikitty tried to stay calm.

"Master Frown, you know not to spray graffiti on the castle! It is unfriendly!"

The cloak figured named, Master Frown didn't seem to care as he got back to spraying the graffiti and wrote, 'Unikitty stinks' on the wall. This made Puppycorn angry. He didn't know who this Master Frown guy was, but he already hated him.

"Hey, what's your problem?!" Puppycorn yelled. "Why do you have to be such a jerk?"

"Why?" Master Frown repeated. "Look, kid! As a doom lord, it is my job to spread misery throughout the Unikingdom! Plus, it's fun just to mess with Unikitty! Anyway, it's time I headed back to Frown Town! Later, losers!"

With that, Master Frown made his return to Frown Town. Truthfully, Puppycorn was glad he didn't have to see that doom lord anymore.

"Who was that jerk?" Puppycorn asked Unikitty.

"That was Master Frown. He is this doom lord from Frown Town." Unikitty answered.

"Frown Town?" Puppycorn repeated. "Isn't that the town that is super sad and depressing?"

"Oh, it's not that bad! Frown Town has a lot of nice things like-" Unikitty paused as she couldn't think of anything. "Okay, I won't lie! Frown Town is pretty terrible, but I'm sure it can be a wonderful place if I spread joy throughout the town!"

It was at that point when Puppycorn smiled at the thought. In all the years he lived in the Unikingdom, Puppycorn had never met anyone so upbeat and positive.

After their encounter with Master Frown, Unikitty and Puppycorn were about to return to the castle when something caught Puppycorn's eye.

"Hey, what's that?"

Puppycorn approached a couple of vehicles that were parked in front of the castle. One of them was a vehicle with a cloud type of design with a smiley face at the front, while the other was a trike with sports ball designs for the wheels.

"Oh, those are vehicles that Dr. Fox built for me!" Unikitty explained. "As nice as the trike is, I prefer the cloud car."

Personally, Puppycorn would have chosen the trike. He gazed at the vehicles for a couple of moments before he thought of an idea.

"Hey, Unikitty! How about we take these vehicles and have a little race?"

Unikitty liked the sound of that idea. "Ooh! Sounds like a lot of fun! You're on, Puppycorn!"

With that, Unikitty got in the cloud car while Puppycorn entered the trike. It took Puppycorn awhile to figure out how to start the trike since this was his first time riding it. Once he was about to start the trike, Puppycorn was ready to start his race with Unikitty.

"Okay! The first to drive around the castle three times wins!" Unikitty announced. "Ready, set, go!"

Both, Unikitty and Puppycorn started their engines before they stepped on the gas and drove as fast as they could. Throughout the race, Unikitty was far ahead of Puppycorn, only encouraging him to drive faster. Unikitty briefly looked behind her to see Puppycorn slowly catching up to her.

"Try to keep up, Puppycorn!" Unikitty taunted.

"This race isn't over yet, Unikitty!" Puppycorn said with a competitive smile.

During the final lap, Puppycorn managed to catch up to Unikitty. Unfortunately, he didn't realize that he was going a little too fast. He was about to hit a tree, so he swerved out of the way, causing him to crash into the front door of the castle.

"Puppycorn!" Unikitty gasped as she drove her cloud car into the castle to catch up with him.

"Aaah! How do you stop this thing?" Puppycorn asked, unable to control the trike.

"Uh, I don't know! I never drove the trike before!"

It was at that moment when the trike served out of control, hitting Unikitty's cloud car. Before they knew it, they were both spinning out of control as they crashed through a door and stumbled down some stairs.

Once they recovered from their fall, Unikitty and Puppycorn opened their eyes to see that they landed in Dr. Fox's lab. They looked around to see Hawkodile, Dr. Fox, and Richard looking down at them, none of them looking too happy. Both, Unikitty and Puppycorn gave a couple of nervous grins, knowing that they were in a lot of trouble.
