The Parent Trap

Chapter 9

The Dynamic Duo!

"Second Bossman, you're never going to believe this but…"

It was a nice, cold day in January and Tank was just settling in for his work day. Though he disliked Mondays, this Monday there was a strange feeling in the air. Like things were just going to be good for them all.

He had even stopped on the way to work to get breakfast and the lady at the counter winked at him and gave him an extra apple fritter. There was no traffic on the way to work, and he didn't see any stray cats in dire need of help. Yes, the start of a good day for Tank.

He had just settled in his office, with his breakfast, intent on calling Lula, when Zero burst into his office, his eyes wild and panting hard, like he had ran a mile. Tank looked at the hunched over man and raised an eyebrow, "Talk."

"Second Bossman, you're never going to believe this but Bossman is back, with Bomber, we saw them come in early this morning, they're up in the penthouse now!"

Finally some good fucking news regarding the missing lovebirds. Tank was up in a second and making his way out of his office, "Why'd you sit on this news for so long, you should have told me, the moment they came in!"

"It was 4AM," Zero shrugged as Tank walked away, "Let them have a moment to themselves before the shit storm, right?"

The shitstorm that Carlos and Stephanie would have to face…yeah they would have to face some pretty miffed people. Like Stephanie's mother, but he was sure the two of them would be fine. Tank shook his head as he walked over to the elevator, entered it and pressed the button on his own key fob. He was going to give those two lovebirds a stern talking to, for going MIA for almost two weeks and leaving him to deal with everyone's whining!

Tank stepped out of the elevator, walked over to the door to Carlos's penthouse and opened it with his fob. He walked briskly into the living room and found the two lovebirds, Stephanie and Carlos, sitting on the couch, talking softly to one another. Tank managed hear a few tidbits of their conversations.

"…don't know how we tell my mother about this…"

"Babe, it'll be alright, don't worry, I'll be by your side…"

"You're the best, Carlos, I love you…." Tank almost rolled his eyes at the look Carlos and Stephanie were giving each other. He coughed, to make his appearance known, and the two lovebirds turned to look at him. Stephanie gave him a nervous fingerwave, while Carlos leaned back in the couch and inclined his head, saying, "Tank."

"You two have some explaining to do," Tank said folding his arms, making the duo look at one another, "You run off, get hitched, almost disappear but reappear after two weeks. I get it, you two are adults and can do whatever you like, but some of us were worried."

"That was my fault, Tank," Stephanie said, sheepishly, "We were just sitting there, talking about us, on New Year's Eve and I had asked Carlos why were we waiting and asked if he wanted to get married right then and now…"

"It was about time I got my head out my ass and look at how I felt about my Babe," Carlos said, looking from Tank to Stephanie, a soft smile on his face, "I'm glad I did, I know I don't do surprises but, I couldn't say no to Babe, once our feelings were out in the air."

Tank rumbled, "These emotions are going to get the best of you all," before he looked at Stephanie and Carlos, "Lula's going to want to buy you both a wedding present."

"As long as it's not hot pink or spandex," Carlos grimaced and Stephanie nodded her head in agreement.

"We'll buy one together," Tank waved Carlos off, "Don't worry, you know, now that you two are back, you'll need to go and smooth things over with a lot of people, well, Stephanie does, at the very least, you can just get the others on the mat and set them straight."

"I'm surprise my mother hasn't blown up my phone," Stephanie mumbled, looking down at the offending item, "I'm glad you're not that mad, Tank."

"It could be worse, you two could still actually still be sunbathing in whatever tropical place you went to," Tank gave them a sort of smile and said, "Congratulations, by the way, here's to many years down the road."

"Agreed," Carlos said, before he straightened up, "I'll meet you downstairs in the office soon, Tank, I'm sure I have a pile of paperwork waiting."

"You do," Tank said, before he walked out the living so he can return to his meal, "See you two lovebirds later."

A good day indeed! That's one problem out of the way!

(~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~)

"I'm sure I have a pile of paperwork waiting!" Carlos turned his head to Stephanie, who was parroting him and then a wicked grin broke out his handsome face, "Oh Carlos…Ranger, I love you, gimme kisses!"

Carlos and Stephanie broke down into a mess of giggles, covering their mouths with glee as though they had told an inside dirty joke. Stephanie tossed her hand up to the entrance of the penthouse and if one had the gift to sense it, they would have felt a ward of some sort go up on the door, to prevent people from coming in, just like Tank did.

"Oh Babe, I love you, Babe, Babe, Babe!" The two were pouncing on one another, rolling off the couch, laughing and giggling madly. When they sat up, it wasn't Carlos and Stephanie leaning against the couch but two people, women to exact. One had hair of black, with blazing green eyes and the other had hair of brown, with doe like brown eyes. They were tall and slim with matching mischievous looks in their eyes.

"I do declare, Vix, this might be the easiest job yet!" The brown eyed woman said, turning to the green eyed woman, "Just 40 years of this and then we can get that debt we owe Diesel wiped off the board!"

"You're right Trix," Vix said, nodding her head, "This is totes easy and we get to live in luxury! All we have to do is play these chumps too? Let's go on a real honey moon, with all the money we've got to play with!"

When Diesel had popped into their hiding spot/lair asking them to play pretend, they really couldn't say no to the man, literally, they couldn't. He saved them from the wrath of Old Man Evanston three times and from Agent Heidi a few times as well. He didn't tell the duo what he wanted, in exchange from saving them from certain retraining but he did hang the IOU over their heads. They weren't evil, but missions got boring, so they spiced them up…a little too much, sometimes.

"Still,"Vix sighed, looking over to Trix, as she stood up, her eyes narrowed, "Why did Diesel ask us to act like these two people? Do you think he killed them off?"

"Maybe he used them in a sick and twisted experiment and now they're stuck somewhere, fused together in an obscene form of art?" Trix suggested, "Either, way, it's kind of nice to be out of hiding, there's no way Old Man Evanston would look for us here, let's enjoy it, while we can!"

The two nodded their head and in the blink if an eye, Carlos and Stephanie were standing where Vix and Trix stood, ready to fool the whole city of Trenton. This would be easy and fun!

(~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~)

"You got WHO to do WHAT?!" Heidi looked at Diesel with shock, as the man stood before her, "Repeat what you just said to me, now."

"I got the Dynamic Duo; Trix and Vix to go and play as Stephanie and Carlos for 40 years," Diesel said, watching Heidi get green around the gills, "They owe me for saving their asses a few times-"

"You mean to tell me you got the Dysfunctional Duo in Trenton, posing as Stephanie and Carlos?" Heidi rubbed at her temples, "You might as well have told me you gave them Speed and set them loose on the city to handle people forgetting about the two."

"You know they don't like being called the Dysfunctional Duo," Diesel said as Heidi gave him a long look, "Hey now, if they want me to drop the IOU they owe me, they're going to do right."

"Trix and Vix, the two that had the Roman Empire fall three times!" Heidi started, making Diesel look away.

"Maybe it's not a good city if it's falling more than once," Diesel mumbled.

"They sank the city of Atlantis because Atlantis was tired of their bullshit and sank itself!" Heidi snapped.

"You know, maybe that city was on shaky grounds…"

"They freaking…started the Tupac in Cuba Myth!" Heidi threw her hands up smoke bellowing out of her ears, "If I catch their signatures in Havana, I'm skinning them alive!"

"They were truly sorry about that," Diesel said, holding up his hands, nervous, "Look, it'll be fine!"

"You better keep track of those two, I swear, Diesel, if they slip up and do something wild…you are going to get it," Heidi hissed as she slammed her hands on her desk, "You! You go and fucking get to your office, I'm-" Heidi pressed her hands to her pulse in her neck, "I'm going to fucking check if I'm not having a heart attack!"

"We were having such a good morning," Diesel sighed as he walked out of Heidi's office and down the hallway of the Agency, "A really good morning."

They had gotten up early, that morning to get Carlos and Stephanie dressed and prepared for the day. Stephanie and Carlos had sleepily shoveled fruity oatmeal, fruits and chocolate milk into their mouths, before being bundled up and walked to school by Heidi and Diesel. As the two got closer to school, they became more awake and more sullen, gripping Heidi and Diesel's hands as they walked together.

"It'll be fun, trust me," Diesel said as he crouched in front of the two children, "You two are going to make so many friends, and learn new things."

"You'll enjoy it," Heidi said, as she grabbed both the children's hands and squeezed them gently, "And when you get done, we'll be here to get you and we'll have a nice lunch, grilled cheese and chicken noodle soup."

"With extra cheese," Diesel winked to Stephanie and Carlos, who giggled and looked at the two adults, as children ran past them to go into the school, "You two okay?"

"Mhm, we're doing this so you don't go to jail," Carlos said, his voice serious as Stephanie nodded her head.

"We wanna stay at home, and watch cartoons and Wonder Woman," Stephanie sighed as Heidi nodded her head with sympathy, "We're gonna miss you, Mommy and Daddy."

"We're going to notice the silence on the house," Heidi said as she let out a noise of shock as the two children hugged her tightly, "Okay, don't want to fall in the snow!"

"You're going to have a blast," Diesel said as he was hugged as well, looking at the two of them, "Now go on, the Headperson is waiting for you both."

"Bye Mami, bye Papi!" Carlos and Stephanie grabbed one another hand and ran off over to the waiting woman, waving to their Mommy and Daddy before being led off into the school building.

After they dropped the children off, they went right to the Agency, where Diesel dropped the bomb on Heidi. Well it was something, right?!

Diesel sighed as he walked into the hallways where Unmentionables had their offices at and looked for his. He had never had an office, never had the need for one. It was nice of Heidi to….Diesel paused as he stopped before a door that called out to him, tied to his gifts.

Unlike the fancy scripted name tags on the other doors that belonged to Unmentionables, his was a whiteboard with his name messily scrawled upon it. Diesel didn't like the looks of this. He grabbed the door, which glowed blue from his magic and opened it, to reveal….

The most shittiest office he had ever seen! It was tiny, with a card table for a desk and a folding chair to match it. The window was tiny and looked out into a bog, a bog! Were there even bogs in Switzerland?! Where did this come from? Who put it there?! Sitting beside the desk was several boxes, over 30 boxes, filled with waiting reports to be filled out. Heidi wasn't lying about the 500 years of reports waiting for him.

Diesel let out a low sigh and said, "Perfect," just as the single bulb above his head blew out, "Juuuuuust…..perfect."

TBC…

Here's to hoping Diesel's plan doesn't backfire...too hard.
