Savin' Me

Summary: Hermione has had enough and is considering ending her time in her current reality when Godric floats up to her.

AN: This just popped in my mind while listening to music as I was working on Another Chance; yes, there's another chapter for it that just needs a bit of editing before I post it. Not sure how long it will be, we'll just have to wait to see what my muses decide on. :) Anyway, I wrote the scene down to come back to. It's a shorty but hopefully you'll enjoy it. :) Like quite a few of my other shorts, this may be expanded at another time but for now, here it is!

Inspriation: 'Savin' Me' by Nickleback and watching a young couple on YT react to Princess Bride. Kudos to anyone who recognizes the quote that helped my inspiration. ;) It's not an exact quote but my version. :D

Warning: Suicide attempt

Disclaimer: I make no monies with this.

Hermione stared out into the night. Life had become unbearable since the end of Tom Riddle. Not much had changed. No one wanted to take the time or make the effort to turn around all the things that made it possible for such a depraved and mental wizard to rein his terror upon everyone.

She was still looked at as lesser or too young to know what should be done.

Ron and his mother wouldn't leave her alone about being a "proper" witch, which translated to getting married and popping out as many babies as possible in the shortest amount of time. No thank you!

There were many trying to make change happen but, sadly, most of the seats of power were still held by purebloods who barely concealed their beliefs. After the cleaning, burying, rebuilding and ceremonies were done, Hermione was left feeling bereft. She had no clue how to move on, how to let go of everything she had been through, especially when most in the wizarding world refused to let her. Oh, they all gave the proper faces and responses when in public but she heard and felt their stares and whispers in the shadows.

She was so tired of it all. Why couldn't some positive changes be made, then maybe she could feel happy, maybe she'd find hope. Instead, all she felt was never-ending sadness and loneliness, a numbness she had no clue how to break through.

As she observed the stars, she never thought she would be at the place she was at; truly considering taking her own life. She wondered if anyone would truly miss her if she did.

Harry was busy dealing with his own traumas but he had the Weasleys to help him.

Ron was eating up the fame and glory, a different witch on his arm every week yet she was expected to marry him. Yeah, no!

However, that left her alone with no one in her corner, not really. She didn't blame anyone, honestly, they all had their lives to rebuild and scars to heal but everyone believed the front she put up. She couldn't sleep for more than a few hours before waking up screaming from the nightmares of her memories. She wasn't able to eat much, too long barely eating enough to survive while on the run, making sure the boys weren't hungry. Many around her wanted to get to know her because of her status as a heroine and not because she was Hermione. It was grating on the nerves and heavy in her heart.

On top of all of that, she had managed to track down her parents and restore their memories but they had promptly shoved her out the door with a "never come back" and "no daughter of ours would ever do such a thing" ringing in her ears. She had returned to wizarding Britain downtrodden and broken but expected to be chipper and put together. Everyone else was allowed to mourn their losses and heal their wounds but not her, no, she was supposed to have no problems. Bullshite! She had more scars than most and was tired of always being the "strong one".

Her eyes closed as she felt the breeze gently brush her skin and whisper in her ears. Deciding she would like to see what's on the other side, Hermione allowed her body to lean forward and fall. She felt such peace as she let her body plunge down. However, her trip was cut short by a pair of strong arms and solid chest. When she opened her eyes, she saw the most beautiful brown ones staring back at her.

Then he spoke, "There is a shortage of beautiful souls in the world why would you take something so beautiful from this world?"

Hermione could only stare. Who was this man and where had he come from? Why had he saved her? Then his words penetrated her brain and her eyes widened in shock. Surely he couldn't be talking about her! She was nobody and her soul was broken, not beautiful.

"Who are you?" she asked just above a whisper.

"I am Godric." The being answered with a slight smile, making him appear beautiful and ethereal to her.

"Why would you save me?" Hermione pondered aloud.

"Why would I not save someone so beautiful and as pure as you?" was said.

Hermione scoffed, "I am not beautiful nor am I pure. I am broken and tarnished."

"Hmm, we shall agree to disagree." Godric countered with a smile.

Then it finally clicked in Hermione's mind that she was still in his arms and they were floating. Without realizing what she was doing, Hermione tightened her arms around his neck and laid her head on his shoulder as she murmured, "I'm not worth saving."

Godric tightened his hold on her and pulled her tighter to his chest. "You are worth saving, my lovely witch."

Hermione raised her head to capture his gaze as she asked, "Would you take me away from here?"

Godric gave her a soft smile, "Why do you wish to leave here?"

"I'm not wanted here any longer." Was her reply.

"Where would you like for me to take you?" Godric was curious.

"Anywhere you are I wish to be." Hermione answered softly.

"I am currently living in America. Are you sure you wish to leave this world behind?" Godric was amazed at the petite brunette in his arms so willing to go with him.

"Yes. Please, there is nothing here for me; it is more like a prison than a home." Hermione shared.

Godric kissed her forehead as emotions for the young witch made his heart swell. He would take her wherever she wished if only to see her smile once again, to see her eyes light up with life once more.

He looked to the window of the tower and gave a nod before flying away, his precious cargo tucked against him. The figure in the window smiled and mentally wished them both a happier life.

AN: Well, that's it for now anyway. :) Let me know what you think. Did you guess the quote? Also, here's the lyrics for Savin' Me. Have a wonderful day! Thanks for reading.

Nickelback - Savin' Me

Prison gates won't open up for me
On these hands and knees, I'm crawlin'
Oh, I reach for you
Well, I'm terrified of these four walls
These iron bars can't hold my soul in

All I need is you (Come, please, I'm callin')
And oh, I scream for you (Hurry, I'm fallin', I'm fallin')

Show me what it's like (To be the last one standing)
And teach me wrong from right (And I'll show you what I can be)
And say it for me, say it to me
And I'll leave this life behind me
Say it if it's worth savin' me

Heaven's gates won't open up for me
With these broken wings I'm fallin'
All I see is you
These city walls ain't got no love for me
I'm on the ledge of the eighteenth story

Oh, I scream for you (Come, please, I'm callin')
And all I need from you (Hurry, I'm fallin', I'm fallin')

Show me what it's like (To be the last one standing)
And teach me wrong from right (And I'll show you what I can be)
And say it for me, say it to me
And I'll leave this life behind me
Say it if it's worth savin' me
Hurry, I'm fallin'

And all I need is you (Come, please, I'm callin')
And oh, I scream for you (Hurry, I'm fallin', I'm fallin', I'm fallin')

Show me what it's like (To be the last one standing)
And teach me wrong from right (And I'll show you what I can be)
And say it for me, say it to me
And I'll leave this life behind me
Say it if it's worth saving me (Hurry, I'm fallin')

And say it for me, say it to me
And I'll leave this life behind me
Say it if it's worth savin' me
