AUTHOR'S NOTE

I'm not sure if there are actually ponies in cannon fim with the names Caramel Corn and Sour Apple, but they're meant to be original characters here. So if they are the names of already existing characters, they just have the same name I guess.:)

For Caramel Corn and Sour Apple, life was simple...never easy, but simple. They were apple farmers after all! The craziest thing that ever happened in their lives was the weird sounds the wind made as it blew through the abandoned lands of Hollow Shades that surrounding their quaint, little, "joint-run-farm".

So you can imagine how shocked they were when the princess had arrived at their doorstep, asking them if they would adopt her unborn foal.

Caramel and Sour Apple were justifiably confused, so the princess explained further...

Apparently, if word got out about her having this baby, it would cause a great scandal throughout the land of Equestria. That was why she came to them: they lived in the middle of nowhere, and she figured they would be able to hide the foal.

As one would expect, all of this took some time to process; them adopt a baby Alicorn? They were just apple farmers after all! They didn't know anything about unicorns' horns or Pegasus' wings, let alone an Alicorn!

However, with this in mind, and after many months of discussing the matter, Caramel and Sour Apple both agreed they should go through with the adoption.

Caramel and Sour Apple sat beside each other, neither speaking as they both signed their respective signature at the bottom of the adoption certificate.

"There," Caramel said as he shoved the paper over to the pony sitting across the table from them.

She, in response, looked over the paper and signed her own name before dripping some hot wax at the corner of the parchment, stamping her royal seal on it. "Wait for it to harden, and then put this somewhere safe," the princess instructed. Caramel and Sour Apple nodded in acknowledgement.

Following this there was an awkward silence wavering in the room between the three ponies. Everyone knew it was time, but neither Caramel nor Sour Apple would rush the princess; they understood it was hard.

Eventually the princess let out a pained sigh; I can't stall forever. She looked down at the bundle she was cradling to her chest; inside the blankets was a pale pink filly, with light orangey and yellow hair, and baby blue eyes.

The mother levitated the infant up to her face, admiring the foal before she placed a kiss upon the baby's forehead. "Until we meet again," the princess softly said.

She then levitated the little pony over the table, into the arms of Sour Apple. "I best be going," the princess stated as she stood to her hooves and made her way over to the front door.

"Are you sure you don't want to stay for dinner?" Sour Apple softly asked, "we'd love to have you." Caramel nodded.

"No I really have to leave," stated the princess, a tinge of sadness in her voice, "thank you both." With that the princess walked out of their house, shutting the door firmly behind herself.

Caramel and Sour Apple were now alone with their knew filly. They smiled to each other, both cooing at the baby.

"Are we crazy ponies?" Sour Apple humorously asked, "I mean, we just adopted an Alicorn."

"Na, you'll be an amazing mother," responded Caramel, "Alicorn or no."

"Oh yeah? Is that so?" Sour Apple softly asked as she rested her head on her husband's shoulder.

"Yep. And I'll...do my best," he jokingly replied. Sour Apple only laughed.

"Please, you'll be an awesome dad."

"Only because you'll be helping me." Sour Apple beamed.

Everything was perfect...

for about two seconds.

The tender moment was interrupted by light whimpered coming from inside the blankets.

"Awe, it's okay lil one," Sour Apple baby-talked, gazing down at her filly.

The baby meanwhile was wrinkling up her nose and scrunching her eyes. "Awe, do you have a lil tickle in your nose," Sour Apple asked in motherese. She, however, wasn't prepared for her question to be answered.

When the Alicorn filly finally let out her sneeze, it was accompanied by a ginormous laser beam that blasted right through the ceiling, second floor, and finally, the roof.

Following this there was a long stunned silence as all Caramel and Sour Apple could do was stare at the giant gaping hole in the middle of their house.

Finally though, a weak, "Oh my," escaped Sour Apple's mouth.

And those two words were the only ones spoken for a good while longer.
