Summary:
What's the difference between human, humanoid, and robot brains?
"I had fun, Sasayan-san."
Sophisticated computer learning linked up to identical care robots and overseen by a super AI on the net, yet Perm wouldn't learn to just call Sasayan "Sasayan."
Sasayan had a computer in his head too, but his experience was different. There weren't a bunch of other Sasayans running around, changing the way he behaved.
Sasayan also had an implant that allowed him to chat and play games with his friends, which humans similarly adopted into their bodies.
Was Perm's inability to call Sasayan "Sasayan" a bug or a feature? The boy wondered if Perm was able to make the conscious choice one way or the other, or if all the first-hand data he received – both personally and from the Perm units attending school elsewhere – dictated his actions.
What's the difference between human, humanoid, and robot brains?
Is there any difference?
Spring is the season of new beginnings and meeting new people. But seasons pass, and over time, Perm began to change.
Perm learned to be scared and exercise caution. But no matter how much Perm changed, Sasayan taught himself to hold fast to one overarching truth.
Perm-kun was still Perm-kun.
Perm doesn't want to play today. He merely wants to hang on to the sight of everyone playing that has brought him joy.
Perm created paper cut art to leave tangible record of his friends' faces. Forget-me-nots proving their time together was real.
But memory is trickier. Multiplied by x under the inundation of data sets from external brains.
Nonetheless, Sasayan requests Perm play with them anyway. And Perm…Perm makes a choice.
Or does he?
Sasayan jumps rope with Perm for the last time. That is something about Perm he feels never changed: The funny way Perm jumped when jumping rope.
Humans learn to fear and love.
Humanoids, like Sasayan, learn the same.
Perm learned fear. Could he then, as a robot, learn to love?
Sasayan hoped Perm could.
Sasayan hoped, like himself, Perm did.
