Chapter 36: Time to go.
Note: Sweeney is going to try to leave without Lucy to avoid exposing himself or putting her in danger, or will that change. We will get a little fluff between them as well, and will see what happens after. His current cover name will be used by his barber shop customers. It's time to see what will happen. Let's begin in Sweeney's POV.
(Sweeney's POV.) I was currently in my parlor shaving a young man that was in dire need of a shave. How I yearned to free such a young child from this mortal coil. I sighed internally as I listened to him breathing. I learned how to listen for breathing in prison so I could tell if guards were asleep. Not that it did much good as I was usually trapped in my cold, small, cell.
I still needed to find a way to leave alone so I could track down and kill Mrs Lovett. I had no idea how I could keep Lucy from coming with me. I could not let her learn of my plan to kill the treacherous baker. While Lucy was right to call her the devil's wife, she would not allow me to kill her, and would leave me. I could not lose Lucy again, so I needed a way to get her to let me go to London alone. "Alright young man, I am finished now."
"Thank you sir," he said kindly. He gave me my payment and went on his way. Under the name Mason my barber shop was doing quite well. Though I believe the barber that was already here was losing money because of me. Not that I really cared if he couldn't handle the competition. But wondering how I would get to go to London without Lucy weighing on my mind.
Will she really believe me if I tell her I was going to return for belongings that we left behind in our haste. Would she believe I had things at that old cabin? Maybe if I told her I wanted to visit a friend. Maybe I could bring her, and search for Lovett at night without her knowledge. I could lie and tell her I wanted to retire from work and live out our days in that old cabin. If I brought her, could I keep her from learning the truth of my return. I could kill Mrs Lovett, bury her like I did Daniel deep in the woods, and wade out the murder investigation by staying away from London again in that cabin for a time.
Maybe that is what I should do. Move to that old cabin with Lucy, kill Lovett, take her corpse to the woods and bury her like I did Daniel. And hopefully things would turn out like they did after killing Daniel. Laying low until the investigation into her disappearance was the one thing that would change. The plan is set, I know what to do. After I finished this last customer, I closed my parlor early and headed home.
Besides, since her beauty had largely returned I feared without me some fool might lay there hands on her. And I would kill them with my bare hands. I could keep watch over her and protect her this way, as I would not lose her again. It was time to get Lucy and finish this once and for all. That vile wenches days were numbered. (Lucy's POV.)
It had been about a month since I told Benjamin what I remembered about what went between me and Mrs Lovett before I consumed the arsenic. I would not forget what had transpired between me and my husband that day, but he was determined to show me what I meant to him that day. I could tell he was furious with Mrs Lovett, but his priority at that moment was me. As he explained to me, he went through a living hell waiting to return to me. I still felt sad about what could have happened if I never drank that arsenic. But as he told me that day, what happened is what happened, and what is now is now.
Now I sat here sewing waiting for him to return. With him working at his new barber shop, and me sewing we were living quite comfortably. (Sweeney's POV.) "Hello Lucy, my dear," I said as I entered home. Lucy put down the clothes she was sewing. "Home so soon my love?"
"Yes I have Lucy, as there was something I wanted to put out." "Anything my dear Benjamin, er Sweeney." I took a deep breath. "It has been so long since we have left London, my angel. Turpin had vanished before we left. I believe my dear it is time to go home.
But we would not live in town, oh no. We would return to the cabin we had stayed at. Lucy raised her eyebrow. "What happened to that vile man?" "No one knows my dear, all that was known was that he had left London," I lied. "We could live off the land my dear, spending all our time together at the cabin, as husband and wife."
"Just us my dear?" she asked. "Yes my dear, forget the city and towns, as we would have all we need at the cabin." "I always wanted to live in the woods," Lucy said dreamily. "I know my dear, that's why I wish to make it so." "this is not about Mrs Lovett, is it my love?" "Forget that vile devil woman, she is of no consequence, we shall stay away from that vile woman.
I lifted Lucy off the ground bridal style in my arms. "We won't do this unless you agree my dear." "I am happy with anything that makes you happy, my husband." I don't know how I will get away with killing Lovett, but I will find a way. But first I must get myself and my Lucy situated in the cabin. I began to kiss her neck as I held her.
Note: Next chapter we will have Sweeney and Lucy leave their current home, and then we will timeskip to London. We will also get some Mrs Lovett perspective in the next chapter as well. I might have had Lucy give in a little easily, but I didn't want to waste several chapters of him trying to convince her. Until next time readers.
