Entry 40: Big Sis

I'm HOPING this entry as well as my previous two show up. It's been 24 hours, and the site keeps going back and forth with whether or not the new chapters are showing. Maybe submiting a new one will help turn it's brain back on.

Pttss siblings. What good are they?

A better question would be, why would anyone care if they had one?!

I was sitting on the bus stabbing at a picture of Olllgaaaa, who I knew I'd be seeing the moment I returned home.

Football head then decides to butt into my business as usual and says

"Uhh Helga, is everything alright? You're stabbing at a drawing of your sister with a big red crayon?"

"Yeah so, I'm I supposed to be happy she's coming home for the whole weekend?"

"Maybe things will be different this time. Maybe you two will get along?"

While his optimism is something I absolutely adore about him, he'll never be able to understand the difference between his connection with those eccentric borders of his and my neglecting family, is that...while he may not technically be related to them, at least the freaks notice he exists!

I made it to the porch of course to see how anxious my parents were to welcome my sister. A big, stupid banner, like she couldn't find her way home?

Then I open the door to…

"Surprise! Welcome home Olga!"

"Oh, it's just the girl."

"Darn, we thought you were Olga."

Yeah, it was just me, your OTHER child.

Two seconds later I was slammed with the door to hear the golden child's obnoxious greeting and her "impressive" news she always has to mesmerize Bob and Miriam with.

This time, it caught my attention as well…

"I, Olga Pataki, have signed up for the Big Sis, Lil Sis program. I will be taking care of a poor younger girl in need of an older sibling."

My eyes flashed, thinking of how for the first time since I'd known her, I wouldn't have to deal with her. Even when I switched her grades from college, mom and dad STILL gave her their undivided attention. Sheesh!

"Wait a minute. So you're saying, you're going to be busy all weekend?"

"I'm afraid so. That is, unless you'd like to spend some time with me and my new little sis?"

Pttss...yeah. Like there was ever a chance of that happening. Olga's suffocating arms around me, while being forced to watch mom and dad give their undivided attention to her, as my ears suffered from her nonstop award winning stories.

I didn't see that happening. That is, until I saw who her little sis was…

"You must be my lil sis. I'm Olga!"

"I'm Lila, and I'm ever so certain you must be my big sis!"

Lila! The whole point of this was to make the weekend LESS annoying.

Ms Perfect from home combined with Ms Perfect from school? For crying out loud, what type of luck was I born with?!

Of course, Bob clinged to her as quickly as he does Olga's cooking after hearing only a few things about her.

"Girl like her could use someone like you to straighten her out."

Gee dad. It's not like I was sitting RIGHT there!

I suppose I should cut him some slack. After nearly a decade the guy still can't remember my freaking name. Why would I expect him to notice me sitting three inches away from him? Criminy!

After making it through dinner, I didn't see why I couldn't still focus on my plan to avoid Olga. Just because little ms perfect was now here, didn't mean I had to participate in any of their sappy activities.

When I saw how much fun they were having though, this new annoying feeling began to form inside me. Similar to the one I get every time I'm in the cafeteria watching the other kids eat what their mothers were smart enough to know to be edible lunches. Only I couldn't overlook this for some reason?

At first, it was just annoying listening to Lila, but the more time past, the more I decided to take matters into my own hands.

Much like I had said to football head on the bus that afternoon, before even knowing about Olga's new project.

After hearing about a few of their special plans; the opera, the country ride, the park with Buttercup, all I had to do was make sure nothing went right for them.

Did my plan work? Pttss...are you kidding?

To top it off, football head was lurking nearby. Am I his stalker or has he suddenly decided to become mine?

"If you're really not jealous, why don't you just leave Olga and Lila alone?"

Well, even if I did take his advice, it didn't work for more than 20 minutes. I swear, when Olga gets an idea, she has to make sure the entire world knows about it!

I can't listen to the radio, watch tv, or make myself a freaking snack without being reminded of those two for crying out loud!

I'm not one to give into the idea of making myself look weak, but if this was ever going to end, I had no choice.

"Bo swah baby sister! Did you finally finish alphabetizing your wrestling cards? If so, you can come night sailing with Lila and me."

I couldn't even make eye contact telling her how bad of an idea I thought that was. Not because of how stupid it sounded, but because of the reason.

"When I see you and Lila together I get...well I get kind of jealous."

"Jealous, whatever are you jealous about?"

"Look Olga, even though we not not always get along, we may not be very close, and you always BUG THE LIVING HECK OUT OF ME...well, you're still MY big sister, and I just don't like sharing you with anyone else."

Words can't describe how weak that made me feel. Not quite as weak as acting humble around Arnold, but you get the idea.

After assuring me I had nothing to worry about, she insisted I join her and lil ms perfect on their night sailing adventure.

After realizing what a fool I had been for joining them (let alone caring to begin with) I swam away (which I'm not even sure if they've noticed yet).

So here I am sopping wet in my dress, asking myself "Why wasn't I an only child?"
