The gang had finally arrived at Jubilife City, where Ember and Dawn could participate in the Pokémon contest. The contest was in three days so the gang could relax in the city today. But there was one thing that Dawn wanted to do first; she wanted to get an item called a Pokétch. A Pokétch was like a watch, but it was sort of like having a mini laptop on your wrist because of technology gadgets the Pokétch had.

"That reminds me." Ember rummaged through her backpack and took out an envelope. Inside the envelope was a voucher for a pre-ordered Pokétch. "My mum got this for me for my birthday and she said that this pre-ordered Pokétch will have special additions to it."

"I got one from my dad as well." Alain showed the others his voucher.

"Lucky." Dawn muttered.

Unfortunately for them the shop that sold Pokétch's didn't have any. The shop keeper said that all of the Pokétch's were taking back to the company that created them.

"Ohh...I really wanted to wear a Pokétch before my first contest!" Dawn groaned.

"I know, let's go to this company where the Pokétch's are made," Ember suggested, "I'm sure the president there will tell us why they took back all the Pokétch's."

"Good idea. I'm sure that it's a good reason too." Alain agreed.

So they headed off to the Pokétch company at once.

Once they got there though the staff at receptionist desk said they weren't allowed to see the president.

Suddenly a young boy with a Shinx by his side came up to the gang. "Good, I'm glad you don't have those fake Pokétch's." he said.

Ember recognized him as Landis, son of the Company President of the Pokétch company.

"What do you mean?" Brock asked.

Landis explained that some clowns had been handing out fake Pokétch's in the city, "I know they are fakes because my daddy never makes cheap Pokétch's like that." He replied.

The president explained that because cheap fake imitations of Pokétch's were being given out, he had all his products brought back in until he sorted out the problem with the fake Pokétch's.

"Hey sir," Ember spoke up, "Alain and I got these vouchers from our parents for a special pre-ordered Pokétch. What are these special Pokétch's?"

"That, Ember, is our very special product," The president said, "It's special because it has two special apps added that you wouldn't get from other Pokétch's."

"You get a stopwatch app and an alarm clock app." Landis added.

"Wow." Ember and Alain awed.

"Hey, how we test their friendship?" Landis suggested.

The gang turned to Landis with confusion.

"I believe Landis means the graph that can measure the friendless and good relationship between a trainer and its Pokémon." The president explained.

"Oh." The gang understood.

"How about you test me and Tesla?" Ember offered.

"Raichu!" Tesla trilled.

"Of course! Shall we begin?" Landis' father asked.

"Sure!" Ember agreed.

With that, the friendship test began. "Now... It appears that the two of you get along just fine, but the question is for now, how well?" Landis' father wondered. He analyzed Ember and Tesla's bond of friendship. The results showed a big heart, almost out of the graph! "Goodness gracious! You two are almost off the graph!" Landis' father exclaimed, shocked see a big heart. He showed his son the graph.

"Wow! That must be the biggest bond I've seen!" Landis exclaimed.

"Well Tesla and I have been together for a long time." Ember smiled.

"How about me and Charizard?" Alain brought out his Charizard.

Charizard roared as he appeared.

Landis's father scanned Alain and Charizard's friendship on the graph, "Incredible!" He gasped.

"Dad?" Landis asked.

"It's the same size as Ember and Tesla!" Landis's father stated, showing the graph to Landis.

"Wow." Landis gasped.

"Charizard and I have also been together since I've rescued him." Alain smiled as he scratched Charizard's neck who cooed at his trainer's touch.

"Now, if you don't mind, I like to have shot! Croagunk, come on out!" Brock called. The Toxic Mouth Pokémon appeared, croaking.

"So, how long have you been with Croagunk anyway?" Landis inquired.

"Not long. I actually just caught him a few days ago." Brock confessed.

"You did?" Landis snickered, showing a sad smile.

"Well, let's go and check it out anyway!" Landis' father suggested. The owner of the Pokétch company scanned Brock and Croagunk's friendship on the graph. There was a buzzing noise! That made the owner surprised! "I don't believe it!" He gasped.

"Daddy, is something wrong?" Landis asked, worried.

Brock began to tense, thinking that there was a problem.

"No no... I'm just amazed! You two are really close to each other!" Landis' father answered, showing the graph to everyone.

The true result was that the heart of the graph was similar to Alain's, but it was a bit smaller!

"Wow! It looks like that the two of you have been like this for years!" Landis exclaimed, happy to see the good news.

Brock and Croagunk stared at each other, amazed.

"Okay, my turn! Piplup, go!" Dawn called, sending her Water Type Pokémon.

"Piplup!" Piplup cried.

Landis' father chuckled with this, "My, my! What a spirited Pokémon! Let's see now..." He said, checking on the analysis. For a few seconds, the results showed that the heart was small as a paper clip!

"Ahhh!" Dawn shrieked with Piplup.

They both groaned with downers as they sighed with disappointment.

"What a shame..." Dawn muttered.

"No no... Friendship takes a while for trainers and Pokémon to create! One day for sure, I'm sure that it'll go up soon someday!" Landis's father tried to reassure her.

Since the president had to sort out the problems with the fake Pokétch's, the gang left the company.

"So what shall we do to wait for the company to sort out the Pokétch's?" Brock asked.

"I need to contact Prof. Rowan and tell him about my strange red plate we found in the forest." Ember replied.

"I'll go with you." Alain offered.

"And I need to sort out if we're missing anything like medicines and such." Brock said.

"I'll go get our rooms for the night at the Pokémon Center." Dawn suggested.

So the gang went to the Pokémon center. Ember phoned Prof. Rowan and showed him her red plate.

"[Hmm that's quite a strange item you have, Ember.]" Prof. Rowan said.

"Do you have any idea what this plate is, Professor?" Alain asked.

Prof. Rowan thought for a second. "[I'm afraid I don't, Alain,]" he said, at last, "[But I will look into it for you, Ember.]"

"Thanks Professor," Ember thanked him, "I'll phone you again it when I find another plate."

And the phone call ended.

"What do you think the plate means, Ember?" Alain asked.

"I don't know, but I think it might lead us to something, Alain." Ember replied.

The plate felt more mysterious to Ember than ever. She wished that she knew what this plate meant. Ember wondered what it would lead to.

Later that night the gang were getting ready for bed in the Pokémon center, but then Tesla noticed something outside. There was a long line of Pokémon marching around outside. The gang saw it too and went outside at once.

"Where are all these Pokémon going?" Dawn asked.

Ember looked at all the Pokémon.

"They've been hypnotized." Ember replied.

"You're kidding?" Dawn gasped.

Suddenly Landis and his dad turned up; Landis's Shinx was missing. The president explained that the fake Pokétch's had some sort of microphone inside them, and the strange thing was the sound of a Psyduck was playing through it.

"And now Shinx has wondered off and we don't know where it is." Landis concluded.

Alain pointed to the line of Pokémon. "If we follow these Pokémon, we may find Shinx and we may also find out what's going on around here."

Everyone agreed to the idea and followed the line of Pokémon.

The gang and Landis and his dad arrived at a shed where all the Pokémon were going to. The president tried to tell all the Pokémon to go back to their trainers, but the Pokémon were too much in a trance to listen. Just then the storage shed closed, and Team Rocket revealed themselves.

"Thanks to our fake Pokétch's we've caught a good haul." Jessie grinned.

The gang were not happy with that. Ember and Dawn were about to tell Tesla and Piplup to attack, but Meowth used hard plastic cages to trap them.

Meowth laughed, "These three are a good extra." he said.

"Oh no you don't!" Ember shouted and released Usagi (Shiny Buneary), "Usagi, use Ice Beam!"

Usagi froze Team Rocket and their balloon and the whole balloon was dragged down to the ground. Tesla and Piplup were released from their cages and the shed opened up and all the Pokémon were free; they had snapped out from their trance thanks to the crash. Landis was happy to get Shinx back.

"What kinda crooks are you!?" Meowth shrieked.

"That's our job!" Jessie snapped.

"Give us Raichu back from you!" James demanded.

"Go, Seviper!" Jessie called.

"Seviper!" The Poison Type Pokémon hissed.

"Carnivine, you too!" James called, but then he got bit again by Carnivine which annoyed James, "Now I'll need a head transplant!"

"Now, Seviper! Use Poison Tail!" Jessie ordered.

"Carnivine, you use Bite!" James yelled.

"Chimchar, Flamethrower!"

"Piplup, Bubble Beam!"

"Croagunk, Venoshock!"

"Tesla, Electro Ball!"

The gang sent out their Pokémon and together they defeated Carnivine and Seviper.

"Now it's time to send you guys off! Tesla, Volt Tackle!" Tesla used Volt Tackle to Team Rocket blast off again.

"I kind of liked the box!" Jessie snapped.

"Good thing we kept the roof alright!" Meowth sighed.

"And a roof beats a mouth anywhere, anytime!" James snapped, trying to pry himself off of Carnivine.

"Wobbuffet!" Wobbuffet agreed.

"WE'RE BLASTING OFF AGAIN!" Team Rocket screamed as they disappeared into the sky.

DING!

"They'll never learn." Ember sighed.

At that moment, they heard a motorcycle driving towards them and saw Officer Jenny and Nurse Joy riding up to them. Officer Jenny stopped the motorcycle.

"We heard that there was a group of hypnotized Pokémon." Nurse Joy said.

"We came out as soon as we could. Is there anything we can do to help?" Officer Jenny asked.

Suddenly Brock appeared between the two women with heart shaped eyes.

"As a matter of fact, there is! We can start with a candlelight dinner for three and then follow it up with a romantic walk under the stars!" Brock beamed.

Then Croagunk used Poison Jab on Brock's back.

"Just a thought." Brock grunted before he fell on his side and Croagunk dragged him away.

The day after that the real Pokétch's were back in the shop ready to sell. So Ember, Alain and Dawn finally got their Pokétch's. Ember and Dawn had a pink one, which was for girls, and Alain and Brock got blue ones, which was for boys. The gang looked to see what apps they had on their Pokétch's. Dawn had digital watch, which was to tell time, kitchen timer, which was like an actual kitchen timer, friendship checker, which could tell how high the bond between a human and Pokémon were, dowsing machine, which could find hidden and lost items, berry searcher, which could locate where berry trees were, and a calendar to remember days and things. Ember and Alain's Pokétch's had the same, and as well as having the special apps alarm clock and stopwatch, they also had the apps memo pad, which was used to write down things you needed to remember, and a calculator to calculate things. Dawn was happy to get her own Pokétch and now she felt more than ready for the Jubilife contest.

And so with the mystery behind the fake Pokétch's solved, the gang could now concentrate on the Jubilife contest.
