CHAPTER:

Hagoromo froze, she couldn't believe her... errr "His" ears. He was a boy now, pronouns can be tricky for newly regenerated Time Lords. So why was he still having such trouble. Regardless, Hagoromo felt the call of something he hadn't heard since he was a little girl. He was sitting on the porch, drinking his midnight tea. Turning his head, he felt the wind swirl as he heard it. That mechanical wheezing groan.

He smiled as a blue phone box began to materialize before him. He nearly ran into the man's arms, as the doors opened. Instead he gave a simple, "Hello Grandfather."

The older man, with the younger face, froze as he saw where he got to this time... although it took Hagoromo a moment to realize "He" wasn't a "he" anymore. Much like Hagoromo, this man appeared to have switched sexes, becoming a woman, in their case.

A rather small, attractive, woman, with dark short hair, and a tiny nose.

Slowly recognition sparked in her own eyes. And with it, a smile slowly tugged at her lips. "Susan... did you get a haircut?"

"Not in the past 3000 years." Hagoromo noted. As Time Lord hair didn't really seem to grow. Getting a haircut was a reoccurring nightmare, as he would be stuck with it... forever. "Would you care for some tea. I just put the children to bed, and my wife joined them a few hours ago. An oddity, I have noticed, is most lifeforms require a lot more sleep then we do." He only needed an hour's nap, once a week.

The older young woman hesitantly stepped out of her shrine, closing the door behind her.

"I..." The woman struggled to get out, "I know the Swashbuckler Doctor ran into a Smart Mouth... but... how many Time Lords survived?"

Susan smiled, but it was a sad smile. "All who under went the Modified Loom procedure... But we didn't manage to stick together. Each Clutch went our separate ways. The people of the Styx Leyline all us 'Gamers'. Given the nature of our abilities."

The Doctor gulped, not really paying attention to that. "... I... I was only looking for your descendants... I didn't expect to see you."

"Oh?" Hagoromo raised an eyebrow. "Then, I suppose, I shouldn't expect any world shattering catastrophes within the hour? Either way, I'm sure we have time for tea."

The older young woman hesitantly took a seat, while Hagoromo poured a cupper.

"You look good... besides the horns, gray skin, and eyes like a ripple affect." Grandfather smiled teasingly, as he accepted his tea.

"That's right," Hagoromo sobered. "You never actually had the chance to meet this face."

Hagoromo took another sip, just to be dramatic. "Regeneration is a lottery, at the best of times... and most of my faces were ambassadors. We rarely got shore leave."

The Doctor decided to focus on the present. "You mentioned... a wife... kids..." Grandfather hesitantly asked.

"Oh yes, my boys, Indra and Asura." Skipping right passed his wife at the moment. The Doctor was quite squirmy, when it came to such things. "They are doing well in their studies. Though Asura seems to struggle a bit, his refusal to give up always ensures he gets it down, in the end."

"They have a Surname?" Grandfather drank her tea.

"I call them, 'Doctor'."

Grandfather choked on her drink, before squeaking, "Really!?"

Hagoromo just smirked, "Of course not, your chosen name isn't exactly appropriate as a Surname."

Grandfather huffed, "Cheeky brat."

Hagoromo grinned, "I chose to give them their mother's name... Uzumaki."

The Doctor froze, "First the Arbiter... now Naruto... really trying to live up to your name."

Susan just shrugged, sipping her tea. Before confessing. "We need the Temporal Backlash, to feed Htuom. While it's not our Clutches only concern, we try to shape more benevolent futures, while not completely rewriting history. It's quite the tight rope."

The Doctor stared in horror, While Susan just shrugged.

Meanwhile, 10,000 years later.

Itachi stood in the shadows, watching his brother basking in his fan club. The younger Uchiha was laughing, and smiling. It been so long since he did that.

Ever since Sasuke joined the Shinobi Academy, father had been constantly berating the boy, for not living up to Itachi's skill level. It didn't matter Sasuke was top of his class, not in father's eyes.

Yet here the child was, consorting with "enemy clans". Making plans to go play, and call it training... and Itachi couldn't be prouder.

Itachi suddenly stiffened. Looking back, he saw Lord Uzumaki standing there... he hadn't even noticed him approach. Likely the only reason he noticed now, was because the man wanted him to.

"I know what Danzo ordered you to do," Lord Uzumaki cut to the chase, and for a moment Itachi feared he was going to have to fight a god... but the entity stood loosely. More sad then vengeful... like he agreed this terrible thing had to be done.

"They are planning to take over the village." Itachi explained something he was sure this man already knew. "They will kill thousands to assume control."

"Still, that is a hell of an order to put on you," Lord Uzumaki observed.

"Danzo wants it to be handled discreetly. The whole clan is involved."

"Not the whole clan," disagreed Lord Uzumaki.

Itachi raised an eyebrow.

"The children have no idea what their parents have planned, yet you have been ordered to kill them as well." That did sound like he would fight him on. "Would that include, him?" Lord Uzumaki eyed the raven haired child.

"Danzo promised, Sasuke would be spared."

"Why him, and not the other children?" asked Lord Uzumaki.

Itachi sighed. "Danzo believes they will grow up, to become a threat to the village, if they learn why their parents were executed... if I attack and flee the village... it would seem like the actions of a single rogue ninja. Then Sasuke will grow up without the stain of our families sins... loyal to the village I love... I don't mind staining my reputation, even my soul, to protect it..."

Itachi looked at Sasuke a moment, "He's already going to hate me. He needs to hate me... to keep him safe... I don't mind playing the villain, if it means he'll have a happy life."

"If you make too big a show of it, he will take it to the extreme... it will destroy his life that way as well," informed Lord Uzumaki.

Itachi looked back. "What have you seen, seer?"

"A horrible future, where that sad little boy destroys himself... to kill you... I realize part of you longs for that, as some odd idea of penance for the sin you are about to commit. I ask you to think about what is best for your brother. Not your own selfish desire for forgiveness from the heavens... if you are going to do this, then do it right. Don't half ass it, or set up some scapegoat to redeem you later on."

Itachi sighed, looking at the boy in the distance. "What should I do..."

Lord Uzumaki smiled, "Kill the clan, as intended, but leave the children in my care. I will raise them far away from Konoha... as I did for the Uzumaki Clan. And the Senju before that... Some day, I hope to regain control of the Hyuga Clan... So that all of my Daughters reside under my domain."

Itachi looked at his literal brother, barely registering what he heard. Though he would think on it greatly in the coming years.

Then, without saying a word, he left. Determined to fulfill his duty to the village he loved... even if it meant staining his soul.

Immediately after the Clara Doctor, finished her tea with Hagoromo. Seconds after Itachi left Lord Uzumaki's Side.

Once Itachi left, soon after his little brother ran off to play Ninja. Clara approached the void.

"Metagamer I take it." The Doctor sighed out the name, filled with exacerbation.

Lord Uzumaki smiled, although Clara couldn't see the grin. She just... felt it was there. He had on quite the powerful perception filter.

"That's me," He confirmed. "Good to see you, father, although I'm a bit busy at the moment."

"That's exactly the problem," glared the Clara Doctor. "What do you think you're doing? Playing God?"

Lord Uzumaki immediately lost his smile, "Would you prefer those children die?"

"Of course not, but this is a fixed point!" Clara snapped. "You can't just go messing about with fixed points!"

"You can't," Lord Uzumaki shrugged. "But I'm a fully trained Time Lord. I know just how far I can safely bend reality. This little hiccup isn't even putting strain on the timelines. That comes later."

"This is a dangerous game you're playing," The Doctor insisted.

Lord Uzumaki shrugged, "There is a reason I call myself 'Metagamer'. I've been playing this game for dozens of cycles now. You never had any objections then."

"I didn't know about it then!" The Doctor snapped. "You can't just, just-"

"Play God?" Lord Uzumaki snorted. "I'm a Time Lord, Father. Playing God is what we do. After all our people have done for the Cosmos, it owes us!!!

"I will not step aside, as children, as my family is slaughtered. The Senju, the Uzumaki, and yes, the Uchiha. These clans originate from my own daughter.

"Or does that not matter to you. As I recall, you always were more then willing to sacrifice your own family."

Clara flinched, "Meta... what happened to you-"

"I wasn't talking about ME!!!" Lord Uzumaki raged. "I'm talking about my grandparents. My Cousins and Uncles. You burned them all, along with Gallifrey itself! Our whole bloody planet!!! You have no right to lecture me!

"You, who have the blood of 2.47 billion children on your hands!!! Many from our own clan!!! I shouldn't have expected you to know compassion for what's left."

Lord Uzumaki swirled around. And The Doctor got the impression of long flowing robes, that he couldn't see.

"Remove yourself from my World, Doctor. Or I'll make you feel every death of the innocents you slaughtered." With that, he began walking off... Leaving Clara to hope the other Smart Mouths didn't hate him as this one clearly did.

6 Years Later.

Kisame smirked, as the legendary Sannin and self proclaimed "Super Pervert", stepped into his chambers... without any of his guards taking notice of him.

"What can I do for you, Pervy Sage?" Kisame used the brat's nickname for the Shinobi, both to tease the powerful Shinobi... and show he could guess why he's here.

Jiraiya sighed, as Kisame pointed to the chair in front of him. Seating himself, he got down to Business. "In none of Zabuza's reports, did he mention you and Itachi Uchiha, were helping train the boy."

Kisame gave a helpless shrug, smirk still in place.

Jiraiya sighed, "You realize, Konoha can't stand for you taking in the brat... especially now..."

Kisame smiled, his sharp teeth Shining behind his blue skin, "I'd like to see you do something about it."

Jiraiya groaned, "The Hokage would like this resolved peacefully... but we are preparing for war."

Kisame, finally, lost his smirk. "Where was this attitude when your own villagers were abusing the child?" he accused, getting Jiraiya to flinch. Good, "I have been involved in that boy's life, longer then you... and you're his fucking godfather. Konoha has no right to claim they suddenly care about the boy. This is a power play, nothing else, so just tell me what the old man wants in Compensation."

Jiraiya stared at one of the most notorious Missing Nin in the world... and felt his sincerity... "You're the Mizukage of the Hidden Mist, now. I imagine we could ask a lot in compensation, and you would gladly give it... but truth is, the old man didn't know what trade Naruto was being trained in... now, he does... and he seeks to rescue his honorary grandson.

"Truth is, there is nothing you have, that he wants, outside of Naruto... I, for one, don't want to completely sever the boy's ties, to the only people who weren't afraid to show they love him."

Kisame frowned, eying the Sannin, and sensing their was a hidden meaning in his words. Then, he smiled his shark grin, catching on. "The Chunin Exam is coming up. Perhaps Kiri could request entrance.

"And, in the hope promoting peace, between Konoha and Kiri's new region, we could appoint a team of ambassadors. I think I'll assign Zabuza's Team as defense. He'll probably want to bring his disciple, as well."

Jiraiya looked on for a moment. But decided to push. "You know, in the spirit of cooperation, perhaps his Disciple, since he has yet to be assigned a Sensei, could be placed on one of our teams for the Chunin Exam. Depending on how long he stays, he could continue to study with them, even go on missions."

Kisame groaned, but agreed. However he added his own stipulation. "Even if he's on a Konoha team, he will continue to wear the Headband of Kiri."

Jiraiya nodded, allowing the concession. "Agreed... However, we might look into getting him duel citizenship."

Kisame gaped, that was rare, in this day and age. Mostly it was a title, reserved for respectable wandering merchants. As they travelled frequently between villages. It was unheard of for a shinobi to have loyalty to two villages.

Naruto... was nervous, it been 2 years since he last stepped foot in Konoha, and although a part of him did want to go back... he was conflicted.

When Naruto was ten, there had been an assassination attempt. With the Assassin revealing Naruto was the Fox Demon... the boy, not yet understanding the difference between a Jinchuriki and a true demon, fled the Village...

That's when the boy found his Sensei, Zabuza, and Later met Kisame and Itachi. All of whom... claim the boy saved their lives. For Zabuza, Naruto showed him he wasn't alone. For Itachi, he gave him the ability to let go of his grief... and for Kisame... he gave him a dream.

Naruto didn't really know about any of that, but the men swore he changed their lives for the better.

About a year ago, Itachi and Kisame officially left that group of Missing Nin they were part of, as they learned their leader wanted to do something to the Jinchuriki... Demon Host, like Naruto.

Naruto didn't know what the man wanted them to do, but he knew it was bad enough for them to sever all ties... and start more actively guarding the boy... which was just embarrassing.

Naruto might not be on their level, but he was a competent Ninja. He even did away with his orange Jumpsuit, and sported the less flashy ninja gear Itachi got him.

Occasionally, Pervy Sage would appear, and give Naruto some extra training... but Naruto wasn't supposed to tell him about Itachi and Kisame... especially not Itachi.

Not thet that mattered now, the whole world knew Itachi help Kisame and Zabuza kill the former Mizukage... and they all knew Naruto had fought beside them.

They had avenged Zabuza's sword master. Avenged all the clans that Bastard had killed, and were working on restoring them... but the question the world asked of them was, "Now What?" What would change in the Mist Village... or would it become worse.

Kisame was Mizukage now, and he made Itachi a clan head of the village... despite there not really being a whole lot of Uchihas left.

Of course, that didn't really matter, given they had stolen some of Orochimaru's cloning techniques. Kisame projected they would have a proper clan of Uchihas, within a year. As well as a revival of old clans that had been lost, in the Bloodline massacre... clans like his own.

Naruto was even getting his own clan of Uzumaki clones. Whom were being uploaded, with all the secrets of the fallen Uzumaki Clan. Which Naruto got from his scattered clansmen, he had befriended. The clones would know of their clans seals and Jutsus.

They might not be able to resurrect the people, but they could restore the clans. The clones would take a year to form, and would all be programmed with everything they needed to know, in that time. But when they woke up, they would be fully formed adults.

Kisame's goals ended at the resurrection of fallen Clans. But now that he was stuck, as the new Mizukage, he wanted to make some serious changes to how his village was perceived.

Naruto looked around his room... he hadn't even had time to unpack, and wouldn't need to. Zabuza brought him and Haku to a posh hotel. Saying they would be staying here, until they could go apartment hunting.

But not 20 minutes later, Shark Sensei told them they were being sent out on a long term assignment... as ambassadors to Konoha...

They all knew, this was purely due to Old Man Hokage. Naruto's honorary grandfather, must have heard about Naruto's involvement in the mist... and this was the only way to prevent war, without severing the boy's ties to Kiri, at any rate.

Naruto, and other Kiri Genin, would be put on Konoha teams... "for a cultural exchange", but really, it was just to get Naruto a Leaf Sensei.

As an Ambassador, Naruto would have more authority, and shops could no longer refuse him service. Hell, if they even tried to overcharge him, it cause an international incident. They couldn't even charge him tax!!!

Things would be different in Konoha... Pervy Sage had promised, Old Man Hokage had started campaigns to teach the children the nature of the seal... and even Kurama's history.

The nine tailed fox, the Kyubi himself, was a Demon Lord who volunteered for the sealing... volunteered to help the village...

That his attack against Konoha, was believed to be caused by a genjutsu... from an Uchiha. That the Massacre against the Uchiha clan, was believed connected to their public Perception at the time.

The children were taught Naruto was a hero, a host for the demon. That Kyubi Jinchuriki used to be heralded as champions of the Village... and that it was their own parents that shamefully chose to ignore all this.

The Hokage also begun releasing movies and comic books, about the mighty deeds of past Kyubi Jinchuriki...

It was supposed to be different now... the villagers supposedly regretted how they treated Naruto... but Naruto didn't think that really had anything to do with him. Just like the villagers hating him, had nothing to do with him...

Why couldn't the Hokage have done all this, when Naruto was still living in Konoha. Now it was too little too late..

Zabuza grunted, as he met his party in the Mizukage Tower. They were supposed to be discussing the particulars of their upcoming mission.

They were a fairly large group of 100 civilians, of ambassadors and paper pushers. Then there were 42 Shinobi, mostly Zabuza's own underlings, from his Missing Nin days... as well as the experiments he had rescued from Orochimaru's base.

Jiraiya occasionally hired outside help, to enact the will of Konoha... when the Leaf Village couldn't afford to be connected to the situation.

Zabuza hadn't even been aware, Jiraiya had a handful of trusted missing nin, working for Konoha. Such as Leaf Ninja, that pretended to defect, but continued to work for Konoha behind the scenes... apparently, Itachi was one such Shinobi.

And Zabuza had become one of Jiraiya's favorite errand boys, due to the Swordsman's connection with Naruto. It was another source of pay, so Zabuza didn't complain too much.

One of his jobs was attacking a missing nin base, believed to belong to Orochimaru. Zabuza was supposed to liberate the experiments he could, and kill the ones loyal to the mad Serpent... Zabuza ended up saving a lot of children... and performing even more mercy killings to the "failed experiments"... thankfully he didn't bring his own students... they were too soft too handle the living nightmares in those labs.

Zabuza did manage to recover forbidden technologies... before bringing the surviving kids to Itachi. Who managed to use his Sharingan to remove the children's brain washing.

Zabuza, Itachi, and Kisame, later tracked down a few dozen Missing Nin, from each of the fallen Clans, from the Bloodlimit Massacres. As well as members of the Uzumaki clan.

They worked in secret, for over a year. Preparing and training. Then... they attacked.

Every last Shinobi, of Kiri... was hunted down and slaughtered in their sleep. As were the clans who assisted in the Bloodline massacre.

Only their children were spared, both civilian and Genin. Although Itachi used his mental Jutsus', to force them to be okay with the murder of their parents and Sensei... Even implanting a furious loyalty to Kisame.

Currently, to rebuild their numbers... and to fulfill their promise, they were using the villages resources to clone the fallen clans.

The machines scrambled the clones' genetics, to create diversity. The plan was to create 500, fully developed, genetically perfected clones, of each clan.

As they were growing, they were being downloaded with everything they needed to know. From reading to Jutsus. Even teaching them the cultural norms their surviving clansmen wanted... as well as giving their bloodline traits a genetic upgrade.

The fallen clans, would get enough bodies to restart their people... while Kisame got an army of loyal clans. The clones would even have an instinctual loyalty to the village.

The first batch would be done this week, and then Zabuza would leave the Village for Konoha.

To insure the Daimyo wouldn't object, to the use of cloning. Itachi sent out Shadow clones to a meeting between them. It took place a few months before they attacked, and Itachi made sure none of them knew he was there.

Getting them to write a bill to allow cloning, only in situations of preserving fallen clans. Not to make an endless army, but rather just enough clones to keep the population healthy. It was written as a clan wide medical procedure.

Itachi tricked one Daimyo to write the bill, had them debate it for a week. Then placed them all in a genjutsu, where they believed 70% of them voted "yes" on the bill.

This insured the Daimyo wouldn't interfere with Kisame using Orochimaru's cloning techniques.

Zabuza wanted to hurry up an leave Kiri. It was no more his home, then Konoha belonged to Naruto. The people disregarded them both long ago... like it mattered if they now saw them as heroes.

Zabuza did his good deed. He saved the village... now... it was time to leave... it was too bad it was too a long term mission in Konoha.

• "Naruto Hatake" by "Agent-G."

(I took many ideas from this, except the main one of Naruto being adopted as a baby, by Kakashi.)

• "Twist of Fate" by "KonohaBlackReaper".

(Keeping the idea of Naruto running away, and being trained by Zabuza. But can't become Naruto's Sensei, because he is listed as his more personal "Mentor", as Naruto is his apprentice. And Genin, in my version of Shinobi World, can't be both Sensei and Mentor to the same student. A Sensei can become a child's Mentor, after the kid becomes a Chunin, but they can't be both at the same time, as it's considered bad form to show favoritism for the other Genin on their team.).
