CODEX :
Trek Galaxy of the Destiny Verse.
The Dominion :
The Federation had gone to war with a primitive culture, that had superior technology. Whom worshipped their leaders as gods.
• Changelings :
Sapient lifeforms that could shapeshift into anything, but their natural state was a liquid. These creatures disliked 'solid' lifeforms and used them as slaves.
The Federation were able to defeat them, using some underhanded tactics. Soon there after, signing a treaty, to stay out of each other's quadrants.
Around this time, one member of the Changeling race, named "Odo", 'showed them the way'.
The Dominion is still a cast based society, but it stop treating 'solids' as slaves or simple worshipers.
Changelings were still very much fascists but more accommodating to their citizens. They focused more on the ideal of 'Justice' to substitute their biological need for order.
• Return to the Alpha Quadrant :
A century later, The Federation welcomed the Dominion back to the Alpha Quadrant, with a new treaty.
Any official declaration, even if it was just of consideration, about joining the Dominion or Federation, meant that species was off limits to the other.
It was designed to stop the Dominion from taking aggressive action against races, for wanting to join the Federation, but it actually went both ways.
They could still bribe and attempt to influence the planet's choice, but couldn't directly interfere with it.
At any time, be it a planetary government or even an individual, could choose to leave and join the other galactic power, and neither side was allowed to stop them.
This meant the Dominion had to actually make sure their citizens were happy being under their rule. The Dominion also took it on themselves to accept any planet deemed "Not ready" to join the Federation. They convinced many races to join them instead of attempting to meet the "unrealistic standards of the arrogant Federation".
As a result, Federation policies became more laid back. However, they still refused to interact with anyone who wasn't capable of space travel or, more recently, could send a message into space outside of their solar system. From their home planet that is. The treaty with the Dominion prevented them from doing this as well.
Many Alpha Quadrant races had joined the Dominion after their return. It was extremely difficult to get Cardassia to trust the Dominion again, but Odo smoothed things over, and after a few decades, they rejoined the Dominion.
This was amazing considering what happened towards the end of the Dominion war. The Dominion abused Cardassia until it rebelled, and then killed off over 800 million of the planet's citizens in retaliation, with the intention of killing every Cardassian on the planet.
It had greatly helped the Dominion's image, when they were able to convince Cardassia to rejoin.
How they were able to do that took nearly a century of relief funds and diplomatic negotiations. The Dominion took great pains to repair relations with the Cardassians, knowing that if they could convince them they changed, the rest of the Alpha Quadrant would follow.
However, after they rejoined millions of Cardassians left all their worlds, in protest and joined the Federation. They were given a planet to colonize as Federation Citizens. Still the Dominion's plan worked.
After Cardassia joined so did the Ferengi, the Breen, and countless other races of the Alpha Quadrant. That the Federation wouldn't accept. However, some worlds of the Dominion, joined the Federation, but the Dominion honoured the Treaty, and allowed them to leave peacefully.
• Romulus :
The Romulans had joined the Dominion as well, but long before the new treaty.
The planet Romulus had been destroyed when it's sun went Supernova. The surviving Romulans had no choice but to go to the Gamma Quadrant, and join the Dominion, if they hoped to gain back their power.
• Klingons :
More recently, 73 Years ago to be precise, the Klingons had made it known that they wanted to join the Federation, but after realizing they would never be allowed due to their aggressive tendencies, which really wasn't their fault as it was genetic, they joined the Dominion instead.
First contact had not gone well between the Dominion and the Klingons, but same could be said of the Federation.
The Dominion had been working on improving relationships in the Alpha Quadrant for the last 200 years, and had largely succeeded.
Losing the Klingons as allies was a huge blow to the Federation, but in the last few decades, they were starting to rekindle their old friendship.
Some Klingon planets broke away from the Dominion as little as 30 years ago, and joined the Federation.
• Other Races :
However this was not a one way street. Many Gamma Quadrant races joined the Federation instead of the Dominion, with some of their planets braking off to be part of the Dominion. The Galaxy was a mix of races, separated by Federation and Dominion ideals.
The Federation and Dominion had developed a mutual respect, and at times even a friendly rivalry with each other. However that does not mean their was not conflict.
• Evolution of Star-Fleet :
After the Dominion War, but before the new treaty, The Federation realized they couldn't ignore that they needed an actual military. 'To mold a safer galaxy' Starfleet was transformed into the combined forces of all planetary governments, under the Federation. An Academy was built on every home planet, connected to the Federation.
There was also a large amount of propaganda thrown out, encouraging alien races to join Starfleet. As a result Starfleet now had countless aliens serving.
10% of each of the 1573 planetary governments, that belonged to the Federation, had joined some branch of Starfleet, and with at least a population of 200 billion per species, the Federation had an impressive fleet. Each Federation vessel was a joint effort by all planets. There were more aliens then humans on most ships.
Many planets also dissolved their military forces, and began to rely solely on the armed forces of Starfleet. Namely the newly formed Starfighter and Marine Corps. As Starfleet itself was mostly still used for exploration, research, and diplomatic missions.
The Federation did not like to fight, but they learned with the Dominion, and the Borg, that sometimes there was no choice.
They kept most of their resources with Starfleet, but didn't neglect the Starfighters or Marines. Those were largely tasked with defending against, and more often then not, attacking the Borg.
Other Races:
• Tamarians :
Alien races such as the Tamarians, who had joined the Federation 127 years ago. It was tricky to communicate with them, as Tamarians didn't think like most lifeforms, but rather purely in imagery. Their written language was a series of odd hieroglyphics which didn't represent words so much as the most basic of actions, places, objects, names, and species.
They spoke entirely in metaphor, referring to the history and even myths of their culture. Beyond that they actually spoke in galactic standard, so if you knew the stories of their people, you could understand what they mean.
Tamarians had taken to using the stories from species they were talking to. With the Federation helping them translate the stories of each new race into the hieroglyphics.
• Cultural Appropriation :
All this resulted in an extreme case of cultural appropriation. Due to humans forcing themselves into the background, various alien races had become rather fascinated by human culture. They began watching their media and implementing their policies. Humans accidentally gained an incredible amount of influence through this.
For example: most Federation planets abandoned the use of money. They 'lived not for the accumulation of wealth, but to better themselves as well as the Federation' as humans liked to preach. Really with the existence of replicators, money was completely obsolete.
• I'Borg :
The new Borg Data mentioned were interesting. They still considered themselves Borg and were working hard on 'fixing' their 'malfunctioning brothers' or one of the thousands of other names they gave to their counterparts. They wanted to bring back their personalities. They still Assimilated people, but now they gave them a choice.
This didn't mean they were completely peaceful. They had a habit of firing on ships, if they attacked their 'Unenlightened brothers'.
They might be self aware, but they made a point of saying they were still Borg. They could hear the lost voices of their counterparts. They saw those Borg purely as victims, and were doing everything in their power to protect them, until all Borg were self aware.
They appeared in more then one battle, in order to let their counterparts get away.
Relationships between these new Borg, the Federation, and the Dominion were tense as a result, but they were also known to help in scientific endeavors, and trade goods with other species.
These new Borg, known as the "I'Borg" by the Federation, used mobile Dyson Sphere's as their homes. Their Nanites were used to construct these Spheres, assimilating every last atom found in nebulas built around a rogue star. The star, itself, was assimilated. So it couldn't destabilize and would be a permanent power source.
Technology :
• Upgraded Starfleet Uniform :
A sturdy piece of armor, black and sleek, appearing like nothing more then your average cloth, and just as flexible.
Impressively dense, but such a light cloth, it made it easy to move no different then an average uniform. It was fully suitable for going through harsh environments, and even withstood the vacuum of space.
The armor generated a powerful deflector shield, centered solely on the wearer. An additional force field could be activated around the head for extreme environments, and to supply oxygen.
There was a compressed oxygen pack on the belt, along with the controls for the armor. There was a small hilt held in the belt, with a built-in replicator, that could hold enough raw matter inside to generate nearly any tool. There were also dozens of other pouches in this utility belt.
Then a pair of bulky gravity boots? Which allowed the wearer to stick to the ground, or fly.
Then there were the gloves, again bulky. These could be used as stabilizers or even generate a phaser beam, simple stun setting to disintegrating a building.
The left wrist was a holographic projector, able to make a holographic computer and fully interactive Tricorder out of solid light.
Lastly there was an earring on the left ear that acted as a communications device, allowing for more privacy during calls, shaped like the Starfleet symbol.
The gloves, boots, utility belt, the earring, even the force fields were controlled by a band around the head, that detected what the wearer wanted to do. It also had the Starfleet insignia, this time hanging down in the center of the forehead. The band was red with gold details, like the gloves, boots, utility belt, and earring.
• Replicators :
Replicators were now so advanced they could create complex chemicals and computers previously unavailable to the Federation. They could theoretically mass produce Positronic Brains if a suitable model designed specifically for that was developed.
• Mass Warp Engine :
In a joint project (between the Federation, Dominion, and I'Borg) Mass Effect Drives were developed to lower the mass of an object, while still creating a Subspace Bubble. This technology allowed ships to move at faster then light speeds, while not disturbing the space they traveled through.
It only took a month, to get from one side of the Galaxy to the other. And could theoretically travel the distance between galaxies in 10 years, instead of 300.
Only Star Ship Carriers are big enough to support this massive engine. With other starships upgrading to regular Mass Effect Drives, instead of warp.
• Dyson Sphere :
Mass Effect Engines were deployed, along with artificial gravity, to make Dyson Spheres more practical for Organic Lifeforms. As their gravity was permanently altered to Earth Norm, despite having the mass of a Solar System.
The average space station was the size of a small moon, but even the Federation had a few Dyson Spheres of their own now. Though they were much smaller then the Borg ones.
The Federation figured out how to build them, after a hundred years of studying an ancient Sphere the Enterprise-D, had stumbled on.
Federation StarShips :
There was a new race of intelligent Starships, that the Federation coexisted with. All Starfleet vessel had an advanced artificial intelligence, fully integrated throughout the ship.
The AI was the ship, every single circuit was a part of her brain. With her files having backups of backups all throughout the ship, protecting not only Starfleet information, but her own personality and memories.
They were the voice over the intercom, relaying most messages from the crew to the commanding officer. Filtering out what task could be redirected to other offices.
They were aware of everything going on inside her, including what the organics were doing.
There was a series of projectors all throughout the ship, so several holographic versions of the AIs could appear in any room or hallway.
There were even long range projectors, that worked with the long range sensors, which allowed holograms to appear on any planet within sensor range.
However, The Ship was only one program, and perceived things differently then organics. The Holograms they could create were puppets, guided by their superior Intelligence. Like androids she processed a great deal of information at once, and was good at multitasking.
This allowed the Ship's conciousness to be in multiple places at once, and function coherently. With the puppets capable of interacting with every member of the crew, while she actually perceived things through the sensors of the ship.
• Photonic Lifeforms :
In addition to the ship, there were several other programs onboard, that used Holographic puppets to interact with the crew. They acted as more minor programs.
However, like the ship itself, they perceived things through the sensors, and not the Holograms. This allowed them to be in multiple places at once.
There were several programs working under a chief program for each department. All of them based on the greatest Starfleet Officers of their fields.
This allowed for a sort of "Think Tank" in each department. So the Greatest minds could discuss things amongst themselves, for their department, and come up with brilliant solutions.
There were the Medical programs, who made up the bulk of the medical officers onboard, though they usually weren't the Chief medical officer.
Tactical Programs divided between the Marines, Starfighters, and Security. The latter mostly handling domestic disputes, as well as providing extra bodies on away missions. But mostly the Security program caught kids playing "Hookie" from school. The Tactical team of AIs was based on the historically recorded neural patterns of some of the Federation's greatest Captains.
Together, these programs insured as few people as possible died while organics handled things like the Sciences, engineering, and diplomacy issues.
Then there was a number of programs, capable of performing all the tasks normally left to civilians. A Hostess program, that acted as bartender and waitress, in the lounges and bars.
A Teacher program, which controlled all the computers students learned from so they could process at their own pace (while organic teachers handled the class participation activities in between each hour of sitting at desk).
Then their was a Stylish Program that acted as tailor and hair dresser.
And lastly a Holosuite program. Which was just one AI, controlling everything in the Holo decks. Effectively making them the "Dungeon Master", of a Dungeons and Dragons game, whom allows their Players to have a good deal of input.
• Symbiotic AIs :
The Federation developed a truly symbiotic relationship with their Programs. With few organics even training for the jobs the AIs could fulfill. although the few who did usually ended up as Chief officers quickly, but rarely got promoted further (as they were needed where they were).
The usefulness of holo capable programs was discovered through the Mark One Emergency Medical Hologram, as well as the fact they were Sapient lifeforms. It was discovered that anything that had been programmed with problem solving abilities, and kept a record of their experiences, would eventually gain self awareness.
In order to stop accidentally creating lifeforms, they needed to stop giving unnecessary programs the ability to think.
So Holograms stopped having individual matrixes, to store information. Instead they were just puppets controlled by a singular intelligence, that was aware from the start that's what it was.
These distinct personalities could easily exist in the ship, because the vessel had such vast memory space for all of them. Which allowed them to expand their own interest near indefinitely.
They were programmed to get a sense of joy and fulfillment out of the job they were designed for, but were able to expand their interests outside of that area.
The Programs were even capable of interacting with each other in their own virtual reality, in the ship's systems. That could be observed by organics, from security and engineering consoles.
• Starship Weapons :
Then there were the weapons onboard!
The weapons included a new type of Torpedo, capable of generating a temporary black hole, through artificially created "Red Matter". The Federation also used Red Matter in grenades. Which could temporarily open a small hole, that barely lasted long enough to suck in a person it directly hit, before closing.
However the Red Matter Torpedoes could consume an entire planet. Higher yield Torpedoes could consume a Dyson Sphere.
The ship's armor alone was capable of flying safely through the center of a star.
While it's deflector shields, combined with Mass Effect technology, could withstand flying through black holes... which other civilizations did have, to withstand Red Matter Torpedoes.
• Phasing Cloak :
A cloaking device? After Romulus was destroyed, and it's government fell apart, the Federation decided the treaty was rendered moot. The Federation went back to researching Cloaking devices.
With an old project the Enterprise-D exposed all those years ago had been reinitiated, and Cloaking devices capable of phasing through matter constructed on every starship. Even when phasing the cloak was highly susceptible to energy discharge, such as that from a photon torpedo.
After Romulus was revived on 'New Romulus' in the Gamma Quadrant the treaty wasn't restored. The Dominion said they wouldn't take any aggressive action for the Federation breaking their agreement with one of their people, if the Federation shared the science behind the phasing cloak. The Federation was always willing to make a peaceful compromise.
• Utopian Class Starship Carrier :
The First, and only, model of its kind. In use for over 200 years. With 42 ships in service. Each carrying their own fleet.
The vessel is shaped like a flying Saucer, with 6, truly massive, subspace generators in back, each 20 kilometers long.
The main Saucer section, has a Width of 100 kilometers, and 42 kilometers tall, with a flat bottom. Where each "Deck" is actually a layer of the Ship, like an onion, a kilometer thick, and going all the way around the saucer.
This ship has few quarters, as most people live on the numerous vessels it carries. But it does have various Luxuries and accommodations.
It has a maximum capacity of a million ships. each with a crew of a thousand. Making this vessel it's own country.
The outer hull is covered in Torpedo Bays and Phaser Banks, in between force fields, on every level, for internal docking bays. While the Docking Bays have breathable air, friction, and room temperatures, they don't have gravity. So maintenance can be more easily done on the hull.
While most of the Ships, onboard the Carrier, are Galaxy Class Starships, Mark 42. There are also several thousand Defiant Class Starship bays, for the Star-Fighters.
From there, Deck 2 is The Military lounge. Where people can watch the ships, the stars, and just relax in a comfortable setting.
Deck 3 is the Brig, that the Turbo lifts won't bring anyone who isn't authorized. While Deck 4 is the Armory, which again requires permission. Then Deck 5 is filled with Holo Decks, for military and lab related use. But Deck 6 is Larger Holosuites, for anyone's use, but you need to request time. Deck 7 is for labs and Science Experiments. While Deck 8 is Sick-Bay
Then Deck 9 is for military Bureaucracy and reports. While Deck 10 is for more domestic related Bureaucracy. Then Deck 11 is for Ship Operations, and related labs. While Deck 12 is for more mundane businesses, needed to run a ship, (such as places to get haircuts). Deck 13 through 17, is for storage (as the Decks are starting to get Smaller.
Then Deck 18 through 24 is the Children's district. Where children can spend their Replicator Rations, to buy themselves toys and sweets. And play in child friendly environments. Such as: The Petting Zoo, Water Park, Juice bars, Arcades, Theme Park, Gardens, and the like.
Deck 25 through 27, are the Officers District. Filled with Private Bars, Holosuites, libraries with real books, and private quarters for the Captains, Commodores, and Admirals.
While most of these higher ranking officers, prefer their quarters on their own ship, these secondary quarters do make it more convenient for a late night of Fleet related work... or if they just need a break from their crew for a little while.
The Officers District also has luxury lounges, available to any commanding officer. Complete with holographic projections, of any environment. Including a space setting.
The Children's District is the only other place with these types of lounges, but they are generally reserved for birthdays, holidays, and coming of age celebrations.
Deck 28 through 37 are the crew decks. Similar to the Officers District... but not as nice.
Deck 38 is the Red light district, for more adult entertainment.
Deck 39 and 40 are the crew quarters. Mostly for the civilians, and visitors to the fleet.
Then Deck 41 is the Bridge. Which is a large spherical room, which acts as a screen of everything going on around the ship. With hundreds of floating circular platforms, for people to work at. All filled with holographic controls. The center platform is for the Commodores, and the Commanding Admiral of the ship.
While each platform has Earth Norm gravity, the rest of the Sphere is weightless.
Deck 42, is Engineering and the battle bridge, located at the rear of the Saucer, in between the Subspace Nestles, and the Saucer section. With tubes running all over the Saucer Section, which are big enough for individuals to fly through.
• Galaxy Class Starships, Mark 42 :
These Ships are a kilometer long, with over a hundred decks. They have only one docking bay, located at the rear of the ship. Which is filled with Defiant Class Starships. While they have similar luxuries, to the Utopian Class Starship Carrier, they are far fewer in number, and often smaller. With things, like the lakes, amusement parks, and sports arenas, substituted purely by Holosuites.
Children's Districts onboard Starships .
The most secure and fortified area onboard any Starship. Where children are supposed to go, when there is so much as a yellow Alert.
Once the ship gets all the children in this section, it seals the entrances with blast doors, and locks out the Turbo-Lifts. Only letting them out when the threat has passed.
• Juice Bars :
Areas to relax, eat, or drink juices or Sodas, that have restrictions on the children's diets. Making sure things like alcohol, or even that cheap imitation of it, couldn't be retrieved from the Replicators anywhere in this district.
The 'Bars' were simple lounges closed in, to block out outside sound for a more relaxed atmosphere, to gaze out at the stars.
These areas had minor Holodeck capabilities, to alter the appearance to look like different types of bars or clubs. Stuff like a 'Cowboy saloon' made child friendly, and other such programs.
The kids were allowed to make request, over what type of atmosphere they would like. These 'bars' were often reserved by parents for birthday parties, and other child related celebrations.
• Holosuites :
There was also a large number of Holodecks with 'Kid Friendly' programs. Things like exploring different planets on file, camping trips, mountain climbing, various sports with famous players, and tons of adventures based on books and comics, or old games for children and teenagers.
There were a few extremely large Holodecks, that went on for a hundred and fifty meters, that could be used to incorporate Sports arenas like a football field. They are big enough for dozens of kids to run around in at once.
Your average Holodeck could only handle a few people, because it used projections and seamless illusions played out on the walls, to trick you into thinking it was bigger. Too many people doing their own thing meant they would be bumping into the walls as the various sensors tried to compensate to the perceptions of so many people.
It wasn't good, for a large number of people, wanting to play a large sport with them.
• Schools :
The schools were located on this deck as well, with friendly competitions organized between them. Such as: sports, martial arts tournaments, chess tournaments, debates, and spelling b's. As well as various club organizations.
• Garden :
A large area, filled with pretty flowers and nontoxic plants, children can explore, sit on park benches, or have picnics.
While the Galaxy Class Starships, had a number of fountains and sprinklers, in their gardens. The Carriers also had a large pool, designed to look like a lake. It even had a small waterfall over a 'cave'.
The end of the 'lake' being 4 meters deep and it slowly got more shallow through its 50 meter length until it barely touched your feet like the shore of a real lake. The lake could generate small waves monitored by the adult staff that worked their, but they didn't turn them on very often. The rest of the place was a beautiful garden with picnic areas.
• Playgrounds :
There are a number of classic human playgrounds. Complete with: swings, forts, ballpits, tunnels, sandboxes, slides, and such.
• Hoverboard Court :
A "Skate park", for hover boards. Which is customarily the only place on the ship, people are allowed to use a hover board.
The course, can only be used with a permission slip, but the Hosts allows anyone to watch the course.
• Petting Zoo :
Where puppies, kitties, bunnies, lizards, alpacas, and even various alien animals, are kept for children to play with.
The Starship Carriers have an additional tank, stretching across the walls of the room, and filled with some of the more docile aquatic animals. Such as Dolphins, and some of the much beloved alien fish.
The tank has a sidewalk, at the top, and a ladder to get to it. So kids could sit at the edge of the tank, and pet the water what dwelling creatures.
The older kids, with permission slips, can even swim in the tank. The keeper of all the animals, will often let any interested child, help feed the critters.
• The Arcade :
Filled with various alien games, and Ancient Earth 'Videogames', that were making a comeback due to their popularity with alien races.
Its main purpose, was to give children another place to play and socialize, without need of Holodecks.
• Lounges :
There was a number of rooms, with comfy chairs, and screens showing the stars and planets surrounding the ship. Complemented by a quiet / peaceful atmosphere.
• Theater :
Another lounge, but this time with a stage for children to put on Plays, or Musical Concerts. Parents will often come here, to witness such activities.
• Art Studios :
Where children can draw or paint anything they like, and even learn how. There are separate rooms for finger painting and crayons, so that teenagers can enjoy practicing more complicated art forms. Without having to look after the younger children.
• Clubs :
There are also a collection of large rooms, each dedicated to a different hobby, for children to enjoy.
Such as halls for: Card Games, Viewing Sports, tabletop games (with various holo tables), boardgames, media discussion, Outdoor activities, and much more.
• Amusement Parks :
Unique to Starship Carriers, these ships also had a number of theme and water related parks. Using Holodeck technology, constantly running these environments, with trillions of safety features, and thousands of more backups to each feature.
