Authors Notes
Warning, lots of gore and graphic detailings of tampering with a human body happens in this chapter. I warned you.
This chapter starts going into a lot of background story, so buckle in and get ready for a ride. There will be plenty of backstory scenes in the future. On a separate note, there's a good possibility that some edition of all the animatronics along with some familiar faces. Let me know what you think about this chapter in the comments, please.
The Crying Child
Evan could only scream and cry as he felt his body being torn into. At his side, his father, William Afton, had been cutting directly into Evans left arm, breaking and removing the bones with a metal hammer and scalpel. Laying in a room that resembled the one he grew up in, he now dreaded waking up to see it every day.
"Now now, my love. I'm only doing this for your own good!" William says in a sing-song voice. "I can't have you dying on me again, can I?" He rips another piece of bone out of Evans arm, eliciting another bloody cry, begging for mercy. William could only laugh with a wicked grin on his face. "It will all be over soon, my dear son." William kissed Evan directly on his forehead, the same spot that had a scar on it, which was drenched in sweat and pale beyond comparison.
Looking down at Evan, he had a lot of tubes connected all over his body and parts of himself had obviously been cut into, which was evident from the now fading scars all over his body. His legs, chest, stomach and head had all been cut into and 'reinforced' by William, who claimed to do it out of love. Evan wasn't sure of anything and he couldn't focus at all. How long has it been since I've been here? He wondered. When is this going to end? He could no longer move his arm anymore, with all his nerves screaming in pain and his bones mostly removed. His hand was missing, due to his father cutting it off. When William was finally done removing the last pieces, he reached for a metal arm.
"With this, you'll be able to have a body of steel and still look like a human. How wonderful!" William praised himself on his genius, looking down at the bloody, carved out mess which was his son's arm. At the base of the metal arm William was holding, where the shoulder should be, there had been a sharp protrusion that stuck out with barbs that came off of it, too, with the intent to stay in whatever it's stuck in. His father brings the sharp end towards Evans' shoulder.
"This is gonna sting a bit." Said William, sounding like he planned on doing something to Evan when suddenly the sharp end of the arm is forcefully shoved inside of the stump that is his shoulder, making him scream once again in agony. William laughs as he pours a silverish liquid on top of meeting points between the metal arm and Evans shoulder. "Perfect!" William shouts, donned with a maniacal smile that stretched from ear to ear, bloody hands stretched out above him in self praise. "Just one more arm and you. will. be. perfect." He started to carefully position Evans arm flesh onto the metal arm. "With the Remnant running into your veins, you'll grow your flesh back in no time and soon it won't hurt to move." He petted Evans head, running his bloody fingers through his son's hair. "Soon you will be perfect and you'll be all… mine!" Williams' laugh echoed through the room, feeling as if it emanated from every direction, beating down on Evans ears. Evan opened his eyes and they were purple as he screamed loudly into the night.
Chara was suddenly awoken by a bloodcurdling scream originating from the bed near her. She immediately jumped up and took a look in Evans direction to see him cowering, tears flowing down his face and him whimpering. Chara moved closer to Evan, only for him to retract towards the baseboard of the bed.
"I-I'm so-orry, Daddy. P-please st-top! I-I'll be a good boy t-this time, I promise!" Evans' voice had cracked and pleaded towards Chara while his eyes glowed dimly of purple. His breathing was heavy and he sounded close to hyperventilating. She slowly moved closer to the crying man.
"Evan, it's me, Chara. I'm not gonna hurt you, I promise." She said in a hushed, calming voice. "I need you to come back to me." Evan tried to move farther back from her while shaking his head, attempting to blend into the baseboard.
"N-no! You'll just cut me up again and-"
"I'm not him, it's me, Chara. Don't you remember me?" Chara comes closer to him.
"I… I-I… C-Chara?" His eyes no longer glowed purple as he seemed to grab ahold of his consciousness again. "I-I'm sor-" Suddenly, Evan looked ill and dropped himself off the bed. Chara could only look down at him as he suddenly released the contents of his stomach all over the wooden floor. She patted his back and rubbed it, attempting to comfort the human in some way.
"There there." Chara cooed to Evan, who had still been heaving violently towards the floor, "I'm here. You're okay now. I promise." She continued to rub calming circles into his back for the next few minutes as the man attempted to gain some sort of composure. Eventually, Evan brings himself up and looks at her. His face said it all, he had a ghostly complexion and heavy bags under his eyes. He was void of all emotion in his eyes but still managed to look very sad at the same time. It breaks Chara's heart to see her human companion in a state like this and she knows that all she can ever do is help him get through his nightmares. She got up from beside him, giving him a reassuring smile.
"I'll be right back." She floated herself out of their room and quickly came back with supplies to clean him and the floor, making quick work of it. After disposing of the wasted articles, she appeared back next. He hadn't moved almost an inch the entire time and only moved to look down when moved away from him. Chara pulled Evan into a hug and suddenly felt the wet tears sprout from his face that had been resting on her shoulder. His arms reciprocate the gesture, wrapping around her tightly as he begins to weep.
"I-I can't do this anymore… He's been gone for awhile now but I still fear that I'm gonna wake up one day strapped back under ARI and be experimented on again. I'm so afraid!" His sobs become increasingly heavier, pushing himself further into Chara. She starts to softly shush him and rub his back, holding his shivering frame in her arms.
"I promise you that you won't ever have to go back there. Your father is long gone and he can no longer reach you. You're safe and sound in your own home, our home. I'll make sure no one can ever hurt you again, Evan."
"But what if he does come back? What if he's out there somewhere, waiting for his moment to spring on me?"
"I'll protect you with everything I have. I won't ever let him have you again. I'm sure everyone else in this house feels the same way." This silences Evan, but he continues to cry into Chara for a while. When he finally does come back up, he looks at face with his puffy, red eyes. He sniffled and Chara smiled at him wordlessly.
"Thank you… I'm sorry for waking you up." He says, looking away from her with a bit of embarrassment. "I can't tell you how much you mean to me." Chara's face flushes with red, her heart skipping a beat. She knows that he doesn't mean it in a romantic way, but she can't help but enjoy the words he says.
"No need to apologize. You're always here for me, saving the day. The least I could do to my most precious human." He looks back at her as she wipes his tears away with a small smile. Evan smiles back and gets up.
"Well, I oughta attempt to get more sleep… It's gonna be a busy day today and it's too early to start yet." He slowly drags himself in bed and Chara helps tuck him back in. His face shows his obvious fatigue as she sees him close his eyes. She smiles and runs her black hands through his hair, comforting the man as he quickly falls back asleep.
Only then did her smile fall off her face. The worry for him was growing immense as she realized how often he was getting nightmares these past couple of months. Perhaps the stress from a new Fazbear location opening had been getting to him, but whatever it was she wished she could help alleviate for him. She remembered vividly the time she first met the man and the state she saw him in.
Chara and Mangle had made home in rundown ARI after finding out the possibility of parts for Mangle could be here. Some paperwork in the filing cabinet next to the managers desk had recorded that the place they received their repair parts was from a place called, 'Afton Robotics Inc.'. With Mangel's body barely holding together, they knew they needed replacement parts and fast. Naturally, this facility had basically been abandoned since all the animatronics had seemed to up and disappear, leaving behind shells and assortment of parts free for the two animatronics to use. Chara had let her friend rest up in an extra room with a few sleeping mats on the floor, seeing as she was a seizing mass of parts, and went on her own to find something that she could use to help her. While the facility was ginormous in size, rooms snaking their around other rooms, it wasn't too hard to navigate through for her. Despite the size, she couldn't find much to work with. Not that she had thought it would be easy to begin with, but they were on a time crunch and needed help fast. The puppet had felt herself losing balance in the air, knowing that she, too, needed a replacement part or two.
As she continued to look, she stumbled upon what seemed to be the interior of a house. A home this far down? Chara thought to herself, amazed by the amount of detail put into this home. She had assumed that this was a stage of some sort for the previous animatronics to play on, but it didn't feel like it. The door she entered into had opened up to a living room and dining room, conjoined with a bit of room in between them and straight ahead had been a hallway that held 4 more doors. She wiped her finger across the island to her right as she passed by the kitchen, seeing that the dust was a lot thinner here than everywhere else in this facility. Does someone live down here? She thought to herself. While she was afraid of the idea of getting found out, perhaps the badly needed parts lied somewhere, hopefully, nearby.
She had checked the first room, which was on her left in the hallway, and it appeared to be the room of a boy. A foxy mask had resided on top of the desk in the far corner, staring out towards the door. Chara shivered even though she knew it wasn't alive, this room felt full of death. She quickly closed the door and made her way to the next one, which was the first door on the right. It had been a bright pink room with lots of dolls in it obviously belonging to a young girl. Unlike the previous room, this room seemed to be a bit more taken care of. There was a small lamp light on the bedside table which strummed a nice tune from what seemed to be a music box. Chara stopped and enjoyed listening to the music a bit more, starting to chime along with the music.
Suddenly, a loud thump came from the adjacent room, scaring the poor puppet out of her daze and putting her on guard. She held still for a time and listened for movement. After waiting a few minutes with no sound of movement, she chalked it up to a rat bumping into something. That scared the bells outta me! She exclaimed to herself lightly as she moved out of the room and towards the adjacent room.
When turning on this door, she realized something was off immediately. Blood had caked the doorknob and it seems as if this door was just recently used. While this did deter Chara quite a bit, she also gained hope, thinking that maybe this was going to be somewhere they held spare parts. Pushing away her negative feelings, she tried the door only to find it was locked. She scoffed, realizing she'd have to use a portion of her remaining strength to unlock this door. As she unlocked it, she felt her body getting much heavier. If this room is a bust, I may have to risk staying here for the night. She thought to herself. As she opened the room, immediately there were two things that pierced into her senses.
The first of them was the immensely powerful sterilized smell. It felt as if she had been thrown inside a hospital and someone had just died. Coming down from the slight shock that came with the smell, she looked upon the room and realized someone, or something, else was here with her. The room must have originally looked like a childs room, a boys room from the look of the blue paint that was turning a bit yellow, but now it looked like a laboratory. There had been vials and vats of liquids sitting on top of the nearby workbench, coupled with lots of metal tools. Some had been covered in blood or this unknown silver liquid. Mechanical and electrical parts had been gathered on a nearby bookshelf, one that you'd find books or trophies on. Countless medical tubes filled with the silver liquid snake around the room, meeting at one place: the bed. At first, it's hard to tell that this is a bed with how filthy it is. It looks more like an altar with how bloodsoaked the sheets are, but that's only the beginning. The medical tubes all met at one place, plugging into what seems to be a young man with a fairly toned body and fair skin, his muscular arms and legs strapped down to the bed. He'd been mostly naked, save his bottom half being covered by torn jeans which were basically jorts due to how short the pant legs were. Perhaps Chara had been an animatronic so long that she thought she no longer felt any primal feelings, but upon further inspection of the young man, she realized how hot her face was getting. H-he's so… handsome. She slapped herself. No! You're here to get parts for Mangle. Stay focused.
She slowly and carefully maneuvered herself around the obstacles, past the bed and looked at the shelf full of supplies. Luckily, she had found a few things for Mangle, but not herself. Chara sighed. I guess I'll have to try somewhere else, but atleast I found parts for Mangle. She thought to herself. As she turned away to check the man, a small metallic piece fell off the shelf and onto the concrete floor with a loud clang, causing the man to suddenly open his eyes and start flailing around, screaming.
"Please, I'm sorry!" He cried, flailing around and then bringing his attention to Chara who had frozen on sight. "Please, you don't have to do this! Fa- Daddy, please! Let me go! It's too much, it hurts!" His eyes glowed brightly of purple, tears running down his face. His expression is one of a terrified child, scared close to death and pleading. If Chara had a jaw, it would've dropped by now. Someone else was alive down here and a victim of her creator. She knew how dangerous and sadistic William Afton could be, since she witnessed first hand the murders of Freddy and his gang before they possessed the animatronics.
Now she was torn. She really wanted to help this man who was crying uncontrollably, obviously traumatized by whatever William did to him, but she couldn't risk him hurting her and Mangle. They're already on their last legs and couldn't deal with another blow. Another thought came to her head: "What if William is nearby?" She had thoroughly doubted such a thing seeing the age of the stuff around here, but she didn't want to take chances. She swiftly made her way to the door and opened it, heading out. Before she could close the door behind her, she heard the man's sobs become somber. "Please…" He begged, his movements stilled other than his cries. "I'll do anything. Please don't leave me…" Chara froze once again, regretting her original decision. What if she had the roles reversed? Would she want him to leave her there and potentially get tortured even more? She realized that the fate she wanted to leave him to was one worse than death and she steeled her resolve.
The door swung open again, creaking from its age. The man perked up again. His mumbles became incoherent and eyes losing their purple shine. Chara put down the pieces and looked for something sharp. Her eyes came across the scalpel that was covered in blood on the workbench. She made her way over and picked it up, attempting to ignore the crusty fluids caked on it and the crying man's head picked up and expression reverted to being horrified, eyes dyed in purple. "No no NO NO NO PLEASE DADDY I'M SORRY! I'VE BEEN A GOOD BOY!" The man continued to move and shake about, screaming his head off with pleads and cries as Chara moved closer. She grabbed the closest arm and cut the bindings cleanly. The man stopped and his eyes stopped glowing as she made quick work to cut the rest of the bindings off. He looked at her, confused and disorientated, seeming as if he hadn't woken up in a long time.
"W-who are you? W-where am I? Where is my father?" He questioned her, seeming weak and uncertain. He sat up roughly, moving like he wasn't used to his body. He looked up to the black and white puppet, who was now struggling to stay in the air and landed against him. He caught her, unsure what else he could do and she chimed tiredly.
"I don't know who you are, but thank you for saving me." Said the man. He looked at her weirdly and poked at her midsection, eliciting a pained response from Chara. "It seems you are broken. Would you like me to help you?" She was unsure if she could trust this man or why she felt it was safe to, but she was too weak to move and Mangle desperately needed help soon. She softly nodded her head and he laid her on her back. She saw him hesitate to pick up the scalpel that was dropped on the ground, wary of it like a boy would be wary of a snake, but picked it up. He started cutting off the tubes on his body, allowing the tubes to pour its silvery substance onto the puppet. She attempted to move, straining her body to get away from it before a hand touched her.
"Don't worry. It can heal you. Allow yourself to rest for the moment. I'll be okay." Evans' soothing voice and warm hand coaxed Chara into security, making her feel as if she was going to fall asleep. Humming of Grandfather Clock emanated from the man's direction. Before Chara fell asleep, she asked him one thing with her weak voice.
"W-what is your name?" He looked at her and smiled.
"Evan. Evan Afton."
Chara remembered how that entire interaction changed her life. After being soaked by Remnant, her body not only fixed itself, but became stronger. She woke up and, with the help of Evan, fixed Mangle and escaped ARI together. She gently patted his leg, showing her affection for her and Mangles' savior. He made her dreams come true, giving her and her friend a new life and a place to call home and for that, she truly respected him for. He truly showed her a part of life that she never thought was possible. Perhaps I saved him, but that day he truly saved me. I cannot thank him enough for that.
She mimicked a yawn and moved over to lay next to him, on top of the covers. She couldn't bear to watch him suffer by himself, so she'd make sure he never would have to ever again. As she passed out to sleep, only Evan filled her mind. A smile creeped up on her face, staying there as she fell asleep next to her human.
As the morning finally crawled in, birds could be heard singing outside. Perhaps this would be the last time they'd hear them this year as the wind was getting colder and the leaves were changing color. A squirrel passed by the window and stared inward, just in time to see Evan awaken.
Evan stretched a bit as he sat up, feeling last night's fiasco affecting him still. As he attempted to move, he felt a weight at his side. Upon inspection, he saw the innocent face of a sleeping Chara next to him. He smiled and gingerly petted the top of her mask. He cared very much for the animatronic and he knew just as well how she felt about him. He really cared for her and respected her. She was his first real friend in this terrible life and he treasured her more than anything else. He wasn't sure how to respond to her feelings, though, so he just acted as if it was normal that close friends were as affectionate as they were. He knew he'd have to respond one day, but for now, he felt himself growing hungry and moved himself out of bed without waking her.
Evans' room had been at the end of the hall in the master bedroom along with 3 other bedrooms; one belonging to Mangle and another that had been Charas. He made his way down the hall and past the stairs towards the basement before he heard a door open up behind him, with Mangle peering out at him. She has always been shy when it came to asking favors and from the looks of her now, it seems she has a favor to ask.
"Hey, Evan." Mangle said softly. "Are you making breakfast?" Evan nodded.
"I am, what would you like?"
"Uhm… You don't suppose you could make waffles, could you?" She asked, shrinking back a bit in embarrassment.
"Of course I can." He said with a smile, making Mangles' ears perk up. "I'll make plenty so there's leftovers later, too." She smiled and you could hear her tail wag, beating off the nearby wall.
"Thank you, Evan!" She threw herself out of the door, hugging him and he gladly accepted the hug. He patted her back a bit.
"I'll be out today for work, so let me or Chara know if you need anything while I'm out." She nodded in reply, skipping back into her room happily. Evan continues towards the kitchen, preparing for his long day to come.
A while later, Chara wakes up softly in her bed, with a delicious scent circulating through her nose. She begrudgingly gets up with a stretch and a yawn, looking for the time. It had been past lunch time she realized, causing her to jolt up. Shouldn't Evan be at work? She thought to herself, wondering who could be cooking during this time. Chara made her way down the hallway to see Mangle at the table, eating a stack of hot blueberry waffles covered in peanut butter and maple syrup with the biggest, happiest face possible. The puppet smiled at the scene.
"Did you cook these?" Chara asked Mangle, who had not realized the former had been awake.
"Nuh, Ehvah mahd thessh." She said, with a mouthful of waffles, making short work of the ones in her mouth. "I mean, Evan made these. He set some aside to snack on later and they're just as good as they were earlier." She pointed at the objectively large stack of waffles waiting on the counter. Chara couldn't help but get a few herself and savor the sweet flavor from them. Her mind wandered to Evan. I hope he'll be okay today… She thought to herself, munching on another bite.
Evan found driving particularly freeing and enjoyed that his business he co-created had a lot of business outside of the store. The man had worked as a technology specialist where he fixed things ranging from computers to household appliances to even more complex things. It's a job he was good at seeing as his entire life had been about fixing machines. He had received a message earlier that the other CEO was out today with the flu, saying he'd be better 'in a pinch'. Evan shook his head at the thought of his work partner, reminded somewhat of his father before everything happened. The thought of his father suddenly gave him a small sour feeling in the back of his throat. Though it was shadowed by his feelings about the upcoming job. He was requested to work on some general electrics in the new Freddy Fazbears, the Pizzaplex.
Evan swallowed his worries as he made his way towards the Pizzaplex, reminding himself that he's here for business. He was sure to be careful, but in case, he brought a taser along with him. Even so, he still couldn't get rid of this foreboding feeling. It's as if he was driving towards his own demise. Evan chuckled a bit at that, knowing very well how difficult it was to kill him. His body was filled with soul driven mechanical parts. Unless he was thrown into a furnace or, Freddy forbid, a volcano, he wasn't going to die easily.
As he chuckled to himself, a big building came in view. As soon as Evan saw it, he knew it was the location he was looking for. Calling it merely a 'big building' was a grave understatement as the Pizzaplex was big enough to have a central city mall inside of it and still have room for more. The building was outlined in neon colors that glowed brightly underneath the sunlight and the sign on the front had a shiny, sleek looking Rockstar Freddy waving with the name 'Freddy Fazbear's Pizzaplex' boldly welcomed under him. The entire parking lot had been jam packed to the point that it was hard to maneuver over to the side of the building, where the employee parking had been. In the notes of the job, they requested that I park to the side and come in from the front. He thought to himself. Even though it was a Monday, it seemed that business wasn't slow whatsoever. He hoped that what he needed to work on inside didn't require being surrounded by a bunch of people.
As Evan made his way inside, a younger man in a blue suit and tie flagged him down. "Mr. Nafto?" He said wearily, coming closer to Evan. Evan's current legal name was 'Evan Nafto' as he dropped his fathers last name to rid himself of anyone who may pursue him. The only people with knowledge of his last name were the people (animatronics) who lived with him and his co-CEO. Evan stuck out his hand in a polite gesture, receiving a firm shake from the tired looking man in front of him. "It's nice to finally meet you. I've heard things from our co-workers about your skill in anything technological. My name is Arin, the manager here, " As the man spoke, Evan could see tight bags under his eyes and a gray hair or two within his dark brown head of hair. In all honesty, Arin looked absolutely exhausted in the way a man coming from the coal mines would look.
Evan gave Arin a smile. "Just call me Evan, please. I'm not good with formalities." The other man smiled back.
"Can do. Now, we have a few places we need your help at. We normally have our animatronic technicians do all that stuff, but we've been a bit… busy lately and I need this stuff done today." Evan nodded, understanding the rush. "We'll compensate you with whatever you need while you're here and if you happen to stay into the night… well, you'll have met the night guard by then so if you need something, he'd be your go-to guy." At the mention of a night guard, Evan stiffed up a bit, imagining what it meant to be a night guard at any Freddy Fazbear location. He relaxed a bit and nodded again, taking in the information and reminding himself to check on the night guard if possible. He wasn't sure if staying overnight would be necessary, or if he even remotely wanted to do so, seeing as it was only around 2 or 3pm. If he does, however, it'll give him plenty of chances to check around the place.
As they made their way fully inside, Evan could see the large, golden statues of each Rockstar animatronic, doing their signature pose like they did in the commercial around a fountain. The entire place had been brightly lit with neon lights in every direction, lighting up kids and parents alike who were nearby. There were shops everywhere ranging from gift shops to something that looks like a tacky Mexican restaurant with an even more tacky name, 'El Chips'. Arin had led Evan towards a group of people, who seemed to be surrounding a particular animatronic. As he got closer, he saw a familiar pink bow on top of a white, feathered head. Rockstar Chica had been busy talking up a storm to children around her, making silly remarks to a young man in a guard outfit. The man was taller than Evan by a few inches and sorta skinny with a decent build on him. His light brown hair curled up on itself and he owned a goofy look matching his jokes, which seemed to be aimed towards the female robot, who would blush in response. Arin led us through the crowd and directly to the man next to Chica.
"Trudge, I'd like you to guide Mr. Evan around the pizzaplex. He will be standing in for some workers and fixing a list of things." The young man, Trudge, gave a sloppy salute and was handed a list that looked similar to the one I had emailed to me. "These are the places, and the things, that needed to be worked on. If you two notice anything else along the way, fix and mark it down so that I may compensate Mr. Evan properly."
"Yessir." Responded Trudge, who had been saying his brief goodbyes to the chicken animatronic next to him before making his way towards me. He started moving out of the crowd and, as Evan followed him, he held out a hand.
"I'm Trudge. Good ta meet ya, Mr. Evan." Evan grabbed his hand firmly and shook it.
"Just call me Evan." The younger man nodded before promptly pulling grapes out of his pocket and throwing a few into his mouth. As he chewed, he offered some to Evan.
"Ah, no thanks." Evan said, not exactly thrilled about the idea of eating food that had been in someone else's pocket. Trudge shrugged and stuffed the rest into his mouth and headed towards a large section of the Pizzaplex named 'Roxy Raceway'. As they had made their way closer to the attraction, the crowds started to thin down. Perhaps this part isn't nearly as popular as the rest. Evan thought to himself. The men made their way into Roxy Raceway as Trudge started running towards where it seemed they held their racing cars.
"Mike! We have a visitor!" Yelled Trudge as he made his way over to the open garage door. A dreaded feeling came down Evans' back, forcing him to shiver. Was it always this cold here? He cursed himself for not bringing a jacket even though the seasons are changing. He moved up towards the garage before his eyes landed on someone familiar.
"Mike, this is the temporary mechanic for the day, Evan." Said Trudge, intruding on the familiar man's space as he pointed blatantly at me. "He's planning to fix everything before we have our special program tomorrow." Evan froze in his tracks as his eyes met Mikes. Mike had purple eyes, like Evans, and was tall and slender. His skin had been very pale minus a purple tinting on it. He wore a guard uniform along with a badge that said 'Night Guard' on it. This man he had definitely known. He was the same person who always took the night shifts at Freddy Fazbear locations. He was the same person who shoved Evans head into Fredbear's mouth as a child, effectively putting him through a lifetime of torture. That same man stood in front of him, alive and well. Are you only good for crying? Why don't you give Fredbear a kiss? Evan heard ringing through his head. His brother, Michael Afton, had said this moments before the disaster.
That same Michael Afton had appeared in front of him when he least expected it and Evans' eyes turned a bright shade of purple.

Frankly, I thought this chapter was going to be a lot shorter, but I couldn't help but make some interactions between characters more detailed. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. I know I did. Catch y'all in the next one.
