Rory was in her office in a computer engrossed in a review she was writing about female rights. Her phone rang.

"Rory Gilmore, New York Times, who am I talking to?" she said smiling at how professional she had sounded.

"Hi Ace"

Her head went into a dizzy frenzy as she heard the familiar voice, all the memories from long ago came back into her head and the smile faded off her face. It was Logan. Memories, good and bad entered her mind, she placed the phone down on the table and sat down slowly.

Everything she had been trying so hard to forget, came back, his smile, the perfection of his eyes, the feeling of his soft blonde hair and that special look he only gave her. She forced herself to shut out the thoughts. NO, she was a grown up women and her life was so much better without her logan- no just logan. But the rush of memories came back, him putting his warm arms around her, sitting beside her reading a book, pulling her closer, calling her ace, the feeling of his li- she stopped herself from thinking that thought through.

She picked up the telephone and said in a shaky voice,

"Logan, why are you calling?" her voice was full of anguish but deep under it concealed want.

She was only 20 when she had declined his offer of marriage and it was a lie to say she hadn't ever considered what couldv'e been.

"Ace, I miss you, more than I have ever missed anyone in my life. You mean the life to me. I-I love you, I know that sounds cheesy and that you already said no and after 2 years you have probably moved on but I can prove to you I'm worth it." He said

"Logan… -" She said thinking of the easiest way to decline him.

"Ace, let me bring you out for one night. Can't do any harm. An innocent night out?" he said.

I let out a smile despite myself at those words he'd said once before.

"Logan, I declined your offer years ago, I have a job and I've moved on, we can never be together as I've already explained, it's -it's just going to hurt the both of us if we go out for a night" she said trying to phrase her feelings and failing.

"Besides I'm going to go visit gran tonight, I've been helping her arrange the funeral plans." She explained further as a side thought.

"Perfect. Emily will be delighted to see me. You know how much she loves me. It's settled ace, I'll pick you up at 5. See you, ace." Logan said triumphantly.

"But that's not what I- " rory said desperately before the line went dead.

Oh God. Her thoughts were doing cartwheels in her head refusing to work logically, she picked up the phone again and rang a new number.

"Mum?" She asked.

"What's up kid?" Lorelai asked brightly.

"You'll never believe what Luke just did," Lorelai said giggling like a child.

"Logan just called" Rory said interrupting her mum .

"WHAT?!"
