As the knock sounded, Lorelai stood up with Rory with a very judgemental look on her face. Rory strode across the room, trailed by her mother, and opened the door. Logan stood by the door looking as casually handsome as ever and managing to pull of a look of complete ease.
Lorelai forced a smile onto her face and stepped in front of Rory, offering her hand to Logan,
"Ahh, Logan, we meet again" Lorelai said coldly.
"Good to see you Lorelai" Logan said warmly shaking her hand and giving Rory a reassuring look.
"Now that we have introduced ourselves again, maybe we could come in from the cold?" rory said nervously chuckling, clearly trying to break the ice.
"Yes. We have a lot to, umm, discuss" Lorelai said ushering Logan in, behing his back she raised her eyebrows at rory who was avoiding eye contact.
They sat down at the sofa, and for once, Lorelai didn't offer the guest in the room a drink.
After a moment of silence, Logan, attempted to break the silence with some polite chatter,
"How is Luke?" he said smiling at Lorelai.
"Gone fishing" Lorelai replied shortly. Logan realised Lorelai wasn't going to say anymore about that so he asked,
"And the diner?"
"It's fine" Lorelai replied.
Logan wasn't used to quite so impolite answers but continued smiling. Lorelai grimaced as she saw Logans hand was casually placed on Rory's back in a very romantic way. Lorelai wanted to know Logan's intentions with Rory, she wasn't going to let anyone break Rory's heart, especially not after how good she was doing in life without a boyfriend. She wasn't going to let Logan spoil rory's job, life or anything else. She needed a serious chat; she also needed Rory out the room.
"Rory, Laine called earlier" Lorelai said making something up on the spot.
"So?" Rory asked confused at the sudden statement of her Mother.
"Don't you want to call Laine back?"
"Sure, but it can wait till later" rory said still confused.
"Well you haven't talked to Laine in a while, so you should call her now" Lorelai said, trying to hint at it to Rory.
Rory looked panicked now, she figured out that her Mum wanted a private conversation with Logan, her Mum could say some pretty awful things.
"I don't think now is the time" Rory said quickly.
"Rory" her Mum said in a stern tone.
Rory glanced a look at Logan. He gave her back a reassuring smile as if to say ' I'm going to be fine'. He smiled at her and Rory couldn't help the sizzle of electricity that shuddered down her body at his gorgeous smile.
Reluctantly, Rory walked out of her room and her footsteps sounded going up the stairs.
Lorelai faced Logan, now that they were alone.
"Rory was doing perfectly fine without a relationship" Lorelai shot at Logan,
"Maybe, but she is so much happier now" Logan said calmly.
"How would you know? You weren't there for all the tough times she went through" Lorelai hissed.
"I wasn't there because Rory declined me" Logan said still calm.
"So your blaming it on Rory? Besides, you gave her an ultimatum, all of nothing!"
"I'm not blaming her for anything, I'm just addressing facts and if I remember correct, you gave Luke an ultimatum to marry you and when he said no, you were pretty depressed too, I did the same with Rory, because I loved her. And I still do, and now she seems to finally love me too." Logan replied.
"Me and Luke were different, we belong together, you just don't fit into the picture" Lorelai said angrily.
"I think it is Rory's choice if I 'fit into her picture' or not."
"I'm her Mum" Lorelai said.
"And she is 24. She can make her own choices, without your approval, and I would appreciate if we could like eachother" Logan said still calmly.
"Why?" Lorelai shouted.
"Because it would make Rory unhappy if we disliked eachother, and I care about that" Logan said.
"How do I know that you care about her, that you don't intend to leave her with a shattered heart again?" Lorelai almost shouted.
"Because I love her, more than anyone in the world, and would do anything for her" Logan said quietly.
"You could hurt her again" Lorelai said. Logan winced and a look of sadness shot across his face.
"Look, I love Rory, and more importantly, she loves me. She is the happiest she has been in 2 years. I do not have the intention of leaving her unless she asks me to. If you would care about her, then you would accept that if she's happy, then you're happy and let her make her own decisions" Logan said.
Lorelai grimaced, and then her face relaxed, "You better make her happy" she grumbled.
"I'll try my best" Logan said confidently, flashing a grin.
Lorelai sighed, admitting defeat, "What about a new start between us?"
"A new start?" Logan questioned.
"I treat you like I don't know anything about you, or about the past about you and Rory, I judge you completely of the present and future" Lorelai offered.
"Deal" Logan said, reaching out his hands.
"Deal." Lorelai said smiling at him.
They shook.
"ROOORRRRYYYY?" Lorelai called upstairs.
"YYYESSSSSS?" Rory shouted downstairs.
"YOOOUUU CANNN COOOME DOOOWWWWN" Lorelai hollered.
