Sonic X: Accident on the Ski Slopes
Author's Note: Hello everyone. CreativeKitty975 here and this is my fourth Sonic X fanfic and my first chapter story. I'm SO sorry that it's taken me so long to upload this story, but my spring semester of college kept me SUPER busy. I couldn't find any time to work on writing my stories while I was finishing school. I will also admit that there were a few times when I could have worked on my stories, but I was just too lazy and wanted to enjoy some free time for myself. Luckily, I have finally graduated college and now I can make more time for writing. However, I won't be writing all the time because sometimes life gets in the way and other times, I lack the motivation to work on my stories or need to take some time to relax. But in order for me to complete my best work, I need to take my time while writing. So, I want to thank all my readers for bearing with me while I worked hard on the first chapter of this story. I promise that the start to this story was worth the wait, and you will enjoy the start to my first chapter fanfic.
I wanted to write this story because skiing is one of my favorite winter activities and I wanted to have a ski trip gone wrong with a terrible accident happening. This accident also happened to one of my family members, but I can tell you more at the end so I don't spoil anything.
But anyway, I don't want to bore you by talking anymore. Without further ado, let's get onto the story!
Disclaimer: I don't own Sonic, Sonic X, and their characters. All credit goes to SEGA and 4Kids TV.
Chapter 1: The Unfortunate Fall
It was a cold and snowy day at Sugar Powder Ski Resort. Chris was on winter break from school so Chuck suggested that Chris could take his Mobian friends on a vacation to a ski resort. So, the gang rented a cabin to stay at and Chuck bought Sonic and his friends ski gear. It took a day for the Mobians to get used to skiing because they had never tried it before, but once they got the hang of it, everyone found it really fun.
After eating a delicious breakfast at the cabin, Chris and the Mobians got bundled up in ski jackets, snow pants, and ski boots and got ready for another day of fun on the slopes. Once the friends were bundled up, everyone piled into Chuck's car to drive over to the ski resort.
Five minutes later, the ski resort appeared in sight with a perfect view of the tall, snowy mountain with skiers and snowboarders already going down the slopes. After parking the car and making their way up to the main lodge, everyone eagerly got their skis on while Chuck cautioned the group of friends to be careful. The old man then informed the gang that they would meet up for lunch around noon. Chuck was going to stay inside the ski lodge while his grandson had fun with his friends because Chuck decided he was too old for skiing. He also wanted to keep an eye on Cheese for Cream because the little Chao is too small for skiing.
After saying goodbye to Chuck, Sonic and the gang excitedly headed over to the nearest chairlift to start another fun day of skiing. After a short ride on the chairlift, the group of friends found themselves halfway up the mountain and decided to split up. Amy and Cream decided that they would go down some green circles because those trails were easier. Meanwhile, Sonic, Tails, and Chris were going to take on some blue squares, which were trails that were a little more advanced. But even though the blue squares were a little harder than the green circles, the boys felt confident that they could handle those trails without any problems.
After waving goodbye to the girls, Sonic, Tails, and Chris glanced at the nearby trails eagerly to choose which one they should go down first.
"Is everyone ready for another fun day of skiing?" Sonic asked his friends with a grin on his face.
"I sure am, Sonic. Skiing is so much fun that I'm ready to ski the whole day away!" Tails exclaimed with excitement.
"I'm ready too. I think we should start by going down the trail called Powder Falls." Chris agreed while pointing to a blue square located on the left.
"Then what are we waiting for? Let the fun begin!" Sonic announced before leading his friends to the trail.
Tails and Chris followed behind the blue hedgehog and as soon as they were at the trail sign, Sonic took off at a rapid speed down the trail. Knowing that there was no catching up with their speedy friend, Chris and Tails shared smiles of amusement before pushing their ski poles into the ground and began gliding down the powdery snow.
While he was skiing, Tails felt a rush of adrenaline as it felt so amazing to be speeding down the ski slopes. He also had to admire how pretty the trees looked as he descended the trail. Seeing the trees coated in pure, white snow that sparkled in the sunlight made the young fox feel like he was in a winter wonderland. Tails would often make sharp turns to help navigate the trail and avoid colliding with other people. The young fox glanced over at Chris and found himself beaming at how much he was enjoying himself. Noticing the wide smile on his face, Chris smiled back at his friend as he was having as much fun as Tails was.
Soon enough, Chris and Tails noticed Sonic waiting in the distance for them. Once they got close to the blue hedgehog, they turned their skis to the side to stop.
"What took you so long?" Sonic asked in amusement with a playful smirk on his face, knowing that his friends couldn't keep up with him.
"Even when you're skiing on the snow, you're too fast." Tails responded with a pout.
"It's okay, Tails. Everyone can go at their own speed while skiing. You know I'm just messing with you, right?" Sonic said while giving his little brother a playful noogie.
Tails could only chuckle in response as the affectionate noogie was making him laugh. This prompted laughter from Chris and Sonic as they enjoyed seeing Tails so happy.
Once Sonic released his little brother, he turned to face the rest of the trail that awaited the three friends. "Shall we continue?" he asked.
"Just as long as you slow down a little bit. We don't want anyone getting lost on the mountain." Chris said, while Tails nodded in agreement.
"Okay, I suppose you're right." Sonic agreed, realizing that his human friend had a point. As much as he loved going fast, the blue hedgehog didn't want his other friends to get lost on the mountain.
With everyone ready to go, the three friends continued down the snowy trail with Sonic going much slower than before. Sonic even got to see Tails maneuvering down the snow by twisting and turning his skis, which made the blue hedgehog impressed at how good he was starting to become at skiing. Eventually, the boys found themselves back at the chairlift and took it back up for some more fun runs on the ski slopes.
2 and a half hours later…
The sound of skis gliding over the smooth snow and cheerful laughter could be heard as Sonic, Tails, and Chris once again found themselves approaching the end of the ski trail and finally arrived at the bottom of the mountain. As the friends stopped to catch their breaths, they noticed how busy the mountain was. Families and friends were waiting in line at various chairlifts while other people were going inside the main lodge to take a break for food.
"Does anyone know what time it is?" Sonic asked his friends. "As much as I'm enjoying myself on the slopes, I think we should head inside for lunch soon."
Chris removed his right glove and unzipped the right pocket of his ski jacket and pulled out his phone. After waiting a minute for the device to turn on, the screen flashed with the time. "It's 11:45am," he reported to his friends.
"So, should we go inside and meet up with Chuck and the girls for some food?" the blue hedgehog suggested to the group.
"Actually," Tails began, "I was hoping we could go to the top of the mountain before we take a break for lunch."
"Really?" Chris asked the young fox nervously. "I don't know, Tails. Do you think you can handle the trails at the top of the mountain? Because the black diamonds are the hardest trails on the mountain."
"I think Chris is right, buddy," Sonic agreed with his human friend. "I'm not sure if going all the way up to the summit is such a great idea. Besides, Chuck said that he wanted us all to meet for lunch around noon. I think we should at least get some food in our stomachs so we can regain our energy before we decide to go all the way to the top."
"Come on guys," Tails pleaded. "I know I haven't been skiing long, but I really want to go to the peak of the mountain to see what the trails are like up there. And besides, I feel confident that I can handle the terrain at the mountaintop. We can go inside for lunch after this last run. Please?"
As much as Sonic and Chris weren't so confident about their young friend going to the very peak of the mountain, Tails started making puppy dog eyes as he waited for a response. After a moment of silence, Sonic eventually sighed, knowing that Tails was so cute when he made puppy dog eyes that he couldn't refuse his little brother's request.
"Okay, we can go to the summit," Sonic relented. "But just promise us that you'll be careful."
"Yeah, I promise." Tails agreed, happy that his little trick had worked in his favor.
As the young fox started using his ski poles to push himself towards the chairlift that would take the friends to the mountaintop, Sonic and Chris reluctantly followed their eager friend. The line was a little long, but sooner than they knew it, the three friends were seated on the chairlift and ascending to the apex of the mountain. But what the group of friends didn't know just yet was that their day of fun was going to come to an early and unexpected end.
15 minutes later…
At last, the chairlift had reached the very pinnacle of the mountain. Upon seeing this, Sonic, Tails, and Chris disembarked from the chairlift and gazed at the amazing view of the ski resort. The friends were up so high that they found they could even see the parking lot filled with cars that looked very tiny from their perspective.
"Whoa," Tails exclaimed. "You can see everything from up here."
"Yeah, this is quite the view." Chris agreed.
"You can say that again," Sonic replied while nodding his head. "There's a lot more to see once you're at the summit."
After taking a minute to admire the scenery, the friends looked around at the trails available for them to take down to the main lodge. There were some black diamonds located to the left but there were also some blue squares on the right.
"I think we should go down one of the blue squares. It will be easier to get down the mountain rather than taking one of the black diamonds." Chris announced to his Mobian friends.
"Yeah, good idea," Sonic agreed, knowing that his human friend had the right idea. "Is that okay with you, Tails?"
Tails took a minute to think about the difficulty of the trails. While he was curious about the black diamonds, he knew that his friends were looking out for him by suggesting one of the blue squares. And the main reason he wanted to go all the way up to the top of the mountain was to see what the view looked like. Besides, the fox knew that they needed to return to the mountain base for lunch soon, so Tails knew that taking a blue square would be faster than a black diamond.
"Okay, that sounds good," the young fox said while pointing to a sign in the distance. "Let's go down the trail called Crystal Slide."
"Okay, then let's go." Chris responded before guiding his friends to the trail.
Sonic and Tails followed their human friend, and they were soon whizzing down the snowy slope. However, as he was making his way down the ski slope, Tails noticed that the snow felt different. Instead of feeling all powdery and smooth, it felt like lumpy mashed potatoes and the fox found that he had to bend his knees harder and use up more energy in order to navigate down the trail. The fox even saw more patches of ice on the trail, so he knew he would need to navigate away from the ice to stay in control as he maneuvered himself down the slope.
Then, the unexpected happened; Tails found himself on the right side of the trail and shifted his skis to the left to change his direction. But as he was bending his knees and concentrating on turning, his left ski failed to turn when it was supposed to while his right ski had managed to change direction. Because only one of his skis had turned when it was supposed to, Tails let out a shocked yelp as he suddenly crashed hard onto his left knee and landed on the snow.
"Tails!" Chris exclaimed in worry, having seen what happened since he was skiing right behind him.
Hearing his friend's worried voice, Sonic quickly stopped himself to see what was wrong. Upon seeing his little brother sprawled on the ground, his brotherly instincts immediately kicked in and he hurried over to see if his little brother was okay.
Chris reached the young fox first and gazed into his friend's eyes with concern. "Tails, are you okay?" Chris asked.
Tails managed to sit up on the snow but as he tried to stand up and get back on his feet, intense pain shot through his left knee.
"OWWW!" Tails winced in pain, feeling something wrong with his knee. "My knee hurts really bad!"
Sonic had finally made his way over to his friends and examined Tails and his injury. "Tails, what happened?" Sonic questioned his friend.
"I-I d-don't know," Tails exclaimed as he started to cry from the excruciating pain he was feeling. "I was trying to turn left, and I-I fell h-hard on m-my knee! I th-think I h-heard... a p-popping s-sound as I... c-crashed on the t-trail!"
After hearing his little brother's answer to his question and looking over his knee for a few moments, Sonic realized that his little brother had a serious injury. "Tails, your knee doesn't look too good. It's hard to tell what happened, but I think your knee is broken."
"Sonic, I actually think he may have popped his knee. If Tails said that he heard a popping sound as he fell, then the injury may be a bit more serious than a broken bone." Chris declared.
Hearing this sent a wave of shock to the young fox. "Wh-What?! Y-You mean… I-I c-can't ski anymore? H-How am I… g-going to… g-get down… the m-mountain?" Tails hiccupped while sobbing.
Unable to stand seeing his friend cry, Chris used his ski poles to remove himself from his skis. Once his skis were removed, he kneeled down on the ground to comfort his friend. "Shhhh. It's okay, Tails. You're going to be fine."
Because of the severity of his little brother's injury, Sonic knew that Tails was going to need help to get down the rest of the mountain. "Chris, you stay here with Tails. I'm going to return to the base of the mountain to get help." Sonic instructed.
"Okay," Chris responded as he looked down at Tails, only to become alarmed at the sight of his unconscious friend on the snow. "You might want to hurry. I think the shock of the accident has caused Tails to faint."
Sonic glanced at his two friends for a moment with his gaze lingering on Tails a little longer before he began speeding down the trail.
"Don't worry, Tails. Help is on the way." Chris said to the unconscious fox, even though he knew his friend couldn't hear him.
The only thing Chris could do now was try to remain calm while waiting for his friend to wake up and hope that help would arrive soon.
Author's Note: That concludes chapter 1 of Accident on the Ski Slopes. The reason I decided to write this story is because this same accident happened to my dad when my family was skiing on vacation one year with some of my cousins. My dad likes skiing black diamonds and because of the terrain on the trail and how hardcore of a skier he is, that caused the accident to happen, and his knee popped. Luckily, he has fully recovered from the accident and still goes skiing today, but that was my main inspiration for coming up with this story.
Because my dad was skiing on a black diamond when the accident happened, I wasn't there on the scene of the accident to see what had happened. So, I had to improvise with Tails' accident based on what I thought happened. I also don't have the best memory of the recovery process because the accident happened when I was 12 years old, so I'm going to write the story to the best of my ability. I will make it as accurate as possible but for the most part, I will be improvising based on what I believe happened.
I had Sonic and friends skiing on green circles and blue squares because those are the ski trails that I like whenever I go skiing. I have done a few black diamonds, but I tend to stay away from those trails because I personally think black diamonds are too advanced for me.
This chapter story may have 5 to 8 chapters, but I'm not sure yet on how many chapters will be in the story at the end. We will just have to see what happens as I create the story.
I hope you enjoyed the first chapter of Accident on the Ski Slopes. If you liked the chapter, feel free to leave a review and if there's anything that I can improve on, leave me some constructive criticism or your thoughts so I know how to make the story better. In the next chapter, we will see Tails get some assistance from the ski patrol following his accident. Until then, I will see you in chapter 2!
This is CreativeKitty975 and I'll see ya next time!
