Sonic X: Accident on the Ski Slopes
Author's Note: Hello everyone. CreativeKitty975 here and chapter 2 is officially ready. I tried to complete this chapter in a reasonable amount of time, but life managed to keep me busy. I am in the process of trying to get a full-time job, so that's taking up a good portion of my time. And looking for a job is a big process that's taking me a LOT LONGER than I expected. Whenever I finally manage to get a job, I may not have a lot of time for writing my stories. My writing habits WILL change once I start working because once I have secured a full-time job, that is going to keep me VERY busy on a weekly basis. But I will do my best to work on my stories whenever I can so I don't keep my readers waiting too long.
On a more fun note, I wanted to make an exciting announcement: I have a Wattpad and Quotev account! You can expect to see all my recent stories on both websites. I plan to upload all stories that I complete to both accounts, so feel free to check out my profile if you're on Wattpad or Quotev!
Without further ado, let's get onto the story!
Disclaimer: I don't own Sonic, Sonic X, and their characters. All credit goes to SEGA and 4Kids TV.
Chapter 2: Assistance from Ski Patrol
A cold blast of mountain air caused Chris to shiver as he felt a chill run down the back of his neck. It had been a few minutes since Tails had fainted after injuring his knee, and Chris was anxiously watching his friend to see when he would wake up. The young boy was also keeping an eye out for a ski patrol ranger, knowing that someone from ski patrol would be capable of helping Tails down the rest of the mountain.
Suddenly, a faint groan escaped the lips of the young fox on the snow. Hearing the small sound, Chris gazed down at Tails with some hope that he was finally coming back to his senses. One moment later, Chris could see the sky blue eyes of his young friend and felt a wave of relief wash over him seeing Tails now conscious again.
"Ch-Chris…" Tails weakly spoke, his voice a bit raspy after fainting. He raised a hand up to shield his eyes, as he needed a minute to get used to the sunlight again.
"Hi Tails," Chris said in a gentle and caring voice. "Are you doing okay?"
"Th-That depends… Wh-What h-happened?" the fox asked his human friend, having forgotten that he had injured his knee after fainting.
Chris knew that Tails wasn't going to like the answer to his question, so he took a deep breath before speaking. "Tails… I hate to tell you this but… you have sustained a serious injury to your knee. You fainted out of shock due to the accident and I was waiting for you to wake up." the young boy gently responded.
Listening to what his friend had said, Tails felt his eyes widen in shock as the memory of the accident slowly came back to him. "WH-WHAT?!" he exclaimed, not wanting to believe it for himself. The young fox tried to sit up, but because he pushed himself up too fast, he accidentally moved his injured knee. The slight movement caused a wave of pain to shoot through the poor fox. "OWWWW!" Tails cried out in pain as he fell back on the ground.
"Tails," Chris said with worry in his voice. "Let me help you sit up. If you move your knee, you're only going to feel more pain."
"Sorry," Tails mumbled while allowing his human friend to pull him up into a sitting position.
Once he was sitting upright on the ground, all the young fox could do was gaze at his injured left knee. "So… the accident with… my knee… actually happened?" he asked his human friend.
Chris sadly nodded his head. "I'm so sorry, Tails. This wasn't supposed to happen."
Thinking about how the accident had happened, realization came to Tails that he had injured himself all because he had insisted to Sonic and Chris that he wanted to go to the peak of the mountain. He had no idea that the terrain at the top was different from all the other ski trails at the bottom. If he hadn't been so reckless, then he wouldn't be sitting on the mountain with a serious knee injury and he would still be able to ski and have fun with his friends.
'What have I done?' Tails thought to himself as his eyes started burning with tears of regret and guilt.
Noticing his teary eyes, Chris focused his gaze on Tails in concern. "Tails? What's wrong?"
"I-I j-just… r-realized that… this is… all m-my f-fault. I-If I-I h-hadn't… insisted that… w-we went up… to the… p-peak, then this… n-never w-would… h-have h-happened." Tails sobbed through his tears.
Chris had to resist the urge to gasp as he couldn't believe his ears. He couldn't believe that Tails was blaming himself for what had happened. While the boy himself had questioned if his Mobian friend was ready for the trails at the summit, he didn't want the fox to feel like the accident was his fault. How was Tails supposed to know that an injury like this was going to happen? Watching the poor fox cry broke his heart, so Chris got close to Tails and wrapped his arms around his friend. It wasn't long before the human felt two arms hug him back.
"Don't cry, Tails. You didn't know that you were going to hurt yourself or that the terrain was going to be different. In fact, none of us knew that this would happen. It was just an unfortunate accident." Chris gently said, while managing to comfort his friend.
The two friends stayed in the embrace when suddenly, Chris noticed something red in the distance and it looked like it was coming up the ski trails. He could also hear the motor of an engine. Seeing this meant that Sonic had succeeded in getting help and the ski patrol had finally arrived.
"Ch-Chris? Wh-What's that s-sound?" Tails shakily asked.
"That's the sound of help finally coming." Chris responded as he gently released his friend from the embrace. Slowly getting up on his feet, the young human started waving his arms in the air to get the attention of the ski patrol ranger approaching them.
One moment later, the boys were greeted with the sight of a man on a snowmobile wearing a red jacket with a small red cross symbol located on his left pocket. Removing his ski goggles, they could see a pair of friendly green eyes taking in his surroundings.
"Good afternoon boys," he greeted with a smile as he walked up to them. "My name is Jake, and I got an urgent report of a serious knee injury from your friend Sonic."
Chris managed a small smile as he managed to talk to Jake. "Hi Jake. My name's Chris and my friend Tails here had a rather unfortunate fall that left him with what we believe is a popped knee. We need your help getting him down the rest of the mountain."
Glancing at the injured fox for a moment, the man nodded his head to the young boy. "No problem, Chris. I can get your friend down the rest of the mountain."
"That's good to hear." Chris replied. "Just please be gentle with him because he's in a lot of pain and he can get shy meeting new people."
"Okay, I promise that I'll be careful." Jake agreed.
The man then kneeled next to the young fox and looked directly into his eyes. "Hi Tails," he greeted the poor fox with a caring smile.
"H-Hi," Tails responded in a shaky voice. "A-Are you… going to… h-help m-me?"
"I sure will, Tails." Jake responded while pointing at his snowmobile. "I have this little sled attached to my snowmobile, so I am going to put you on the sled. Once you're nice and secure, I will take you down to the base of the mountain."
"O-Okay," Tails said, his voice still shaking due to nerves.
"It's okay, Tails," Chris said. "Part of Jake's job is to help people on the mountain. He's not going to hurt you."
"Your friend is right," the man reassured. "I only want to help you and I've been doing this job for 10 years. I promise you that I know what I'm doing."
Tails gazed at the ski patrol ranger and then over at Chris before he decided to trust the kind man. "You're right. If anyone can help me, it's a professional."
"That's good to hear." Jake smiled at the fox. "Now in order for me to get you on the sled, I will need to detach your ski boots from your skis. You might feel a little pain on your injured leg, but I promise I will be gentle."
Tails gulped nervously before nodding his head. "Okay," he said.
Seeing that his friend was scared, Chris kneeled next to Tails and extended a gloved hand. Immediately, Tails gripped onto his friend's hand so he could try to remain calm.
"It's okay, Tails," Chris reassured the fox in a gentle voice. "I'm right here for you. Everything is going to be fine."
"Okay, I'm going to start by detaching the ski boot on the right leg first." Jake announced to the boys while getting his hand into position to remove the boot from the ski. "Are you ready, Tails?"
"Y-Yes… I-I'm ready," Tails replied.
"Alright, then on the count of three, I'm going to push down on your ski bindings and that will release your boot from your ski. One… two… three…"
As soon as he got to three, Tails let out a startled gasp as he felt a sudden movement from underneath him.
"It's alright, Tails," Chris quickly calmed the fox down. "That was just what Jake had to do to get your foot out of the ski."
Processing the words, the young fox realized that he could now feel his boot on the snow and his right ski wasn't attached to him anymore.
"That wasn't so bad, was it?" Jake asked.
"No, I'm surprised at how easy that was." Tails responded.
"I'm glad to hear that," the ski patrol ranger said. "I'm going to do the same with the other leg now. But removing the other boot is going to be a little harder due to your injury."
Hearing this caused the fox to let out a little whimper. However, he soon felt a gentle squeeze on his hand. Shifting his gaze, Tails looked at Chris, who had tightened his grip on the fox's hand.
"Don't worry, Tails," the young boy said. "Just squeeze my hand as hard as you need to and it will be over before you know it. You can even close your eyes so you don't have to watch what's happening."
Listening to the advice from his friend, Tails decided to firmly tighten his grip in Chris' hand and squeeze his eyes shut. "Okay, I'm ready," he bravely declared.
With the approval of the little fox, Jake placed his hand into position and got ready to separate the injured leg from the ski. "Okay, I will once again count to three before pushing down on your ski bindings. One… two… three…"
Upon getting to three, Jake pushed down onto the latch which freed the boot from its bindings. Unfortunately, the sudden movement sent a wave of intense pain through Tails' leg.
"OWWW!" Tails screamed out loudly due to the pain he was feeling.
"Are you alright, Tails?" Chris asked, concerned about the way the fox had reacted.
"N-No…" the poor fox answered as tears burned his eyes and he started crying. "Th-That h-hurt… s-so… m-much!"
"I'm sorry about the pain, but I needed to do that in order to help you down the mountain." Jake apologized sympathetically.
Knowing that Tails needed some comfort, Chris wrapped his arms around his friend and pulled him into a hug. The sad fox instantly returned the hug and cried on the shoulder of his human friend.
"Shhh, don't cry, Tails," Chris soothed. "The hard part is over. Now we can get you some proper help."
Watching the young boy manage to calm his pal down, Jake decided to give the boys a few moments before he would need to move the injured fox onto his sled.
Once Tails had managed to reduce his crying to soft sniffles, Chris broke the hug and gazed up at the ski patrol ranger. "I think it's time we get Tails the help he needs." he stated.
"I agree with you. Now Tails, I am going to gently move you onto the sled that is attached to my snowmobile. Once you are on, I will need you to hold onto your skis as we travel down the mountain." the man informed the fox.
"O-Okay…" Tails responded.
Upon getting the approval, the ranger placed both hands underneath Tails before lifting him into the air. Once he had a secure grip, he walked over to where his snowmobile was parked and placed the fox down onto the sled. Chris then strolled over holding Tails' skis and ski poles and handed them to his friend.
"Thank you, Chris," the fox said while gratefully accepting the skis before laying back on the sled. He made sure that his grip was firm on his ski equipment so he wouldn't drop anything.
"Alright boys, are we ready to return to the mountain base?" Jake asked while returning to the snowmobile.
"Yeah, we're ready to go." Chris confirmed as he stepped back into his skis and grabbed his poles.
"Okay, then let's get on our way." Jake announced before the engine of the snowmobile roared to life.
After a quick glance back to the injured fox to see if he was comfortable, the ranger slowly started to drive the snowmobile down the rest of the slopes. Once the snowmobile started moving, Chris pushed his poles into the snow to follow Jake down the mountain. As he was skiing, the young boy couldn't help but feel nervous for his friend. While he knew that his Mobian friend would get the help he desperately needed, Chris had a bad feeling in his stomach that a trip to the hospital would be required. However, the young boy decided to calm his nerves for his friend and have some faith that everything will be fine in the end.
Author's Note: That concludes chapter 2 of Accident on the Ski Slopes. As the chapter title states, this chapter focused on the help that Tails got from ski patrol. I put a lot of effort into this chapter into thinking about how the ski patrol would help Tails, and I think I did a pretty good job. I made sure to include some comfort scenes between Chris and Tails because those two are like brothers and Tails needed serious comfort after a terrible accident ruined his fun.
I originally wanted to have Tails getting into the ambulance in this chapter, but as I was writing, I decided that the chapter was getting a little long. I also thought that Tails getting into the ambulance could wait a little bit so he can have some time to see his friends again before needing to get rushed off to the hospital.
I hope you enjoyed the chapter and if you liked it, feel free to leave a review. If you see anything that I could do to improve the chapter and make it stronger, leave me some constructive criticism. In the next chapter, we will see Tails reunite with his friends at the mountain base and get into an ambulance as he will need a visit to the hospital. Until then, I will see you in chapter 3!
This is CreativeKitty975 and I'll see ya next time!
