The weekend was always Daniel's favorite days of the week, there was no school, and no Host Club. The only member of the Host Club Daniel saw on the weekends was Haruhi. She was the only one he could spend hours with without feeling drained.
He decided he would go and visit her before going back to school the next day. Now that he has gotten more familiar with her place he felt confident to ride there on his bike. He hasn't used it since he moved here and he figured he could start using it again. Plus it was faster to travel by bike.
"Mom, I'm going to Haruhi's place!" Daniel called to his mom as he started heading for the door.
"Okay, sweety! Have fun! Say, hello to her and her father for me!" She replied back to him.
Another thing that has been going on was that his parents and Haruhi's dad have gotten to know each other. They got along pretty well, his mom and Ranka occasionally talking to each other about stuff Daniel didn't listen to.
So with his helmet now on his head he went out and rode his bike towards Haruhi's place. It was a nice day in his opinion as he rode his bike. It didn't take long before he got to her neighborhood and saw Haruhi walking with some bags in her hands while wearing a pink dress.
"Hey, Haruhi!" Daniel called out to her, riding over as the girl looked over and gave him a smile.
"Hey, Daniel. How are you?" She asked as Daniel drove next to her, keeping with her pace.
"I'm good, I see that you went shopping." He told her, looking at her bags.
"Yeah, there was a sale and there's no better time to hit the supermarket than on a Sunday morning." She smiled happily. "Once I get home and put stuff away I'm going to clean and do laundry." She told him before the two noticed a bunch of people gathered around her apartment building.
"What's going on?" Daniel asked, curious as they got closer and froze seeing a limo. "It can't be," Daniel said.
"Here you are, Master." The chauffeur of the limo said while opening the door letting out the hosts.
"It is." Haruhi groaned, leaning against a pole and dropping her groceries next to her. So much for a peaceful Sunday.
Meanwhile, with the hosts, Tamaki started pacing back and forth in some annoyance.
"So this is where Haruhi lives?" Kaoru questioned as the others looked up at the apartment building.
"It's pretty big, huh? Bigger than I thought it'd be. It's bigger than Daniel's place." Hikaru commented.
"Yeah! Just look at all of the rooms!" Honey exclaimed excitedly, throwing his hands in the air.
Kyoya quickly corrected the others as he pushed up his glasses. "This building is what you might call an aggregate commoner dwelling. Haruhi's home is just one of the many units in this building." He told them as the others awed and nodded.
Afterward, Tamaki immediately put his hands on Kyoya's shoulders, pulling him away from the others. "Kyoya! Why!? Why did you bring these idiots with us!?" He exclaimed to the male. "Especially those two doppelgangers!?" He continued, referring to the twins.
"Well, you see, I knew you didn't have the courage to come here alone. So I thought it'd be best if everyone came along." Kyoya replied before going over to the twins, patting their backs and pushing them away. "Alright, let's go home, I guess I underestimated our great leader." He told them.
The twins looked back to Kyoya as they were moved. "What? I'm not going home!" They replied before Tamaki grabbed Kyoya, freaking out.
"I'm sorry! Hah, don't leave. I don't want to be alone." Tamaki told the glasses-wearing male.
On the sidelines a man couldn't help but comment on the situation; "Is this for some kind of a movie shoot or something?"
Next to him, a kid was spinning while chanting; "Rich people! Rich people!"
"Now, listen up men!" Tamaki announced to the other hosts. "Don't you forget! We must be polite, this is just a casual, 'we just happened to be in the neighborhood' kind of visit. We're not here to judge the Fujioka family's lifestyle. The words, 'shabby, cramped, and rundown', are absolutely forbidden!" He told the others.
"Right! yes sir!" The twins and Honey replied, giving the blonde a salute while Mori did the same.
"Don't say anything that might offend Haruhi or her father and cause them to ask us to leave," Tamaki added by the time the crowd dispersed slightly and letting Haruhi and Daniel come forward.
"Well, it's too late for that! Go away!" Haruhi shouted at them, angrily shaking as she clenched her fists.
Daniel could only sigh as he picked up the groceries Haruhi left behind and got off his bike and walked over, with all the things.
"Haruhi!" Tamaki exclaimed once they all saw her.
"That pink dress is pretty cute!" He, Honey, and the Twins told her while giving her a thumbs up, not helping ease her anger.
"Shut up! Get the hell out of here!" She snapped back causing Tamaki to shriek.
"Haruhi's so mad she actually cursed at us!" Tamaki exclaimed before turning to the twins. "This is your fault!" He blamed the two.
"Hey, it wasn't us." The two replied, not affected by Tamaki's words.
Daniel was just glad he wasn't noticed but that was short-lived. "Daniel, I didn't expect you to be here too!" The twins told him once they saw that he was there as well.
"Yeah, I come here a lot," Daniel replied, already tired of them being there.
"Excuse me, Haruhi, but is everything alright?" An older woman which Daniel had learned was the landlady came over.
Haruhi looked over at her. "Oh, hi Miss Landlady." She told her, not really answering her question.
"These young men are driving such foreign cars, they're not Yakuza are they?" The landlady asked them making Haruhi's eyes widen slightly.
"No, they're not-" She started before the landlady interrupted her.
"Do you want me to call the police for you?" She offered. Daniel honestly was finding this a little amusing, the only one he can see being a yakuza is Kyoya. He snickered slightly at the thought of Kyoya being a crime boss but quickly stopped when Kyoya looked over at him making him immediately look away his life flashing before his eyes.
Tamaki went over and took the landlady's hand. "Pleased to meet you, madam. My name's Suoh, I'm one of Haruhi's friends." He told her using his host skills on her.
"Really?" The Landlady asked blushing before smiling. "My goodness, well aren't you just adorable!" She told him.
Haruhi let out a sigh as she stood by Daniel watching the scene. "And he's got her." She said.
"You say that like that wasn't going to happen," Daniel told her.
Tamaki ran a hand through his hair to make him more appealing. "We're just stopping by, we didn't mean to cause a scene. I'm sorry." He told the Landlady.
The older woman blushed. "Oh, it's no problem." She giggled before going over to Haruhi and Daniel. "I'll stop by later with some snacks for you and your friends! See ya later!" She laughed happily as she left them.
Haruhi sighed as she stood in front of her apartment with Daniel and the other Hosts behind her. "Okay, here's the deal. I'm only giving you guys a quick peek. Three seconds, and then you all go home, got it?" She said glaring at the hosts.
The Hosts didn't seem to react like she wanted as they were just excited to see her home, the Twins clapping with glee.
Honey took out a small box and looked up at Haruhi smiling brightly. "Look, I brought you a gift, Haru-Chan! I know how much you love cake! There's both chocolate and strawberry! I think we should have some!" He told her as she sighed.
"Where did you get that box?" Daniel asked Honey since he didn't see Honey with it earlier.
"I always had it, Elle-chan!" Honey just smiled in response.
Haruhi turned towards the door and pulled out a key. "Fine, I guess I'll make some tea." She told them, opening the door and letting them in.
Daniel immediately went in and started to take off his shoes when he heard Hikaru's comment.
"What a hovel." The red-head said making Daniel glare harshly at him before Tamaki went and stretched Hikaru's cheeks.
"Shut up!" The blonde told him.
"A wood-built two-bedroom unit. That's normal for a commoner family of two." Kyoya commented.
"I used to live in a place like this before moving here," Daniel told them.
"Haruhi's such a pipsqueak, at least we know she won't hit her head on the low ceiling," Kaoru added.
"You lived in a place like this?" Hikaru asked Daniel in shock even though he should've already known this already.
"Well, I think it's a super cute, little room!" Honey exclaimed happily.
"You don't have to struggle to compliment it," Haruhi muttered taking off her shoes as the others noticed.
"Hold on, are we supposed to take off our shoes too?" Honey asked her as they noticed Daniel's shoes were off as well.
"Please, if you don't mind," Haruhi told them walking in.
"Did you hear that? We have to take our shoes off! It's kinda like going to the dojo, huh!?" Honey said as he looked up at Mori smiling.
The giant nodded. "Yeah."
"Do you have any slippers for us, Haruhi?" Hikaru asked.
"You don't need slippers," Daniel told them blankly.
"Wait, the room's covered with tatami mats!" Kaoru said completely ignoring Daniel's comment with his brother.
"In that case, we don't need slippers." Hikaru hummed as he and the others walked in.
"Great! Thanks for inviting us in!" Honey and the twins told her.
"Yeah, thanks," Mori said afterward following after Honey.
"It's greatly appreciated," Tamaki told her.
"Yes, thanks Haruhi." Kyoya finished as everyone finally got into the place.
"Woah, talk about small!" Hikaru said before Mori hit his head letting out an 'ow'.
"Be careful! That lightbulb is just hanging from the ceiling!" Kaoru told the others.
"This place is quite unpleasant, but I think I may have underestimated commoner housing!" Tamaki said sitting down and pulling his knees in. "I know it's a tight fit in here men, but just pull your knees in and sit gym style. Commoners have specially developed this position to conserve space." Tamaki told them.
"They're so rude and they don't even realize it," Daniel muttered as Haruhi groaned and turns away.
"I'm gonna go make us some tea." She replied.
"Hey, wait, here's an idea, why don't you make us this?" Hikari asked Haruhi as he held out a brown bag. "It's black tea that our father brought us as a souvenir from Africa. Here, try it." Hikaru told her handing her the bag.
Haruhi looked down at the bag. "Um, sure, no problem."
"It's best served as milk tea, do you have milk?" Kaoru asked with a tilt of his head.
"I think. When was the last time that I bought some milk?" Haruhi muttered to herself.
"Yeah, you have milk. I just checked." Daniel told Haruhi taking out the milk from the fridge. "You should've bought some more, there's not much left."
"It'll be enough, I just have to go back to the supermarket later maybe," Haruhi told him as she started preparing the tea.
Suddenly they heard Kaoru's voice as he reached out with a trembling hand. "I'm sorry Haruhi, you don't have to go to all that trouble, we don't need any tea. We'd be fine with a glass of water."
"What? It's no trouble. Besides, I've already made it." Haruhi told them showing the finished tea.
The twins sweatdropped at the news. "Oh, well then, in that case-" They said before Tamaki wrapped his arms around the twins' necks and pulled them into a huddle.
"Weirdos," Daniel said as he helped Haruhi put the cups on the table while being able to hear some of what those three were talking about.
"Nothing we know to be true in our world holds true here! We have to be careful how we react, one little off-handed remark could break Haruhi's heart! That means in this fight, the first person to embarrass Haruhi loses." Tamaki declared quietly as the three looked determined to not lose.
"While your antics are amusing, I don't understand why you feel the need to turn this into a contest," Kyoya told them while looking through Haruhi's bookshelf.
"Yeah, really though. Can't you guys just relax for once?" Daniel asked as Haruhi came over.
"Okay, guys, the tea's ready. I'm sorry that not all of the cups match." She told them.
Honey giggled as he placed the cakebox on the table. "C'mon Haru-chan, you can choose your cake first!" He told her happily.
Haruhi blinked and looked down at the cakes. "Uh, are you sure, Honey-Senpai?" She asked.
"Go ahead, we're rich, we eat this kind of stuff all the time!" Hikaru smiled before Kaoru and Tamaki quickly go to shush him. "I was trying to be considerate!" He whisper yelled.
"Maybe you should just stay quiet, you three will only make a fool of yourselves," Daniel told them while joining them.
"I... I'll have the strawberry," Haruhi told Honey.
Honey smiled brightly. "Okay, Haru-chan! You, me, and Takashi are going to have strawberry." He told them.
"Can I have the chocolate?" Daniel asked eyeing the chocolate cake with a small blush.
"Of course! Elle-chan!" Honey told him giving him a slice of the chocolate cake.
"They're both so cute." The twins and Tamaki whispered.
"The traps of the commoner's world are terrifying!" The twins said.
While they ate their cake Mori started putting his strawberries onto Haruhi's plate. "You like strawberries, right? You can have mine." He told her.
"Thanks, that's nice of you, Mori-Senpai!" Haruhi smiled as Mori smiled slightly in response.
Daniel just sweatdropped as he looked over and saw the idiot trio crying. 'So dramatic.' He thought as he ate his slice of cake, smiling to himself at the taste.
The time they finished their cake Honey was sitting back before letting out a content sigh. "Ah, eating all of that cake sure whet my appetite."
"Yeah, isn't it lunchtime about now?" Hikaru asked.
"Well then, what's for lunch?" The twins, Tamaki, and Honey asked looking at Haruhi.
"Will you guys quit being so happy-go-lucky all the time, please." Haruhi told them, mostly referring to the trio of the twins and Tamaki.
"Yeah, this isn't your place you could be more respectful." Daniel sighed before Kyoya stood up.
"We'll take care of it. We did drop in unexpectedly, so we'll pay for lunch. Why don't you just order us all some of your favorite sushi?" Kyoya asked her.
Haruhi immediately held her hands up. "Thanks, but no thanks. I know that if I let you guys pay, I'll only regret it later." She told him before Kyoya took out a golden credit card.
"Oh, don't worry Haruhi, we'll just pay for it using the profits from the photos of you we auctioned off." He said with a smile.
"You just carry those around with you? Do I have one?" Daniel asked him.
"Of course," Kyoya replied holding out another golden card.
Haruhi sighed. "So I'm really paying for it after all. Well if that's what you want, I do have a friend who runs a nice, little sushi shop nearby, so I can just give him a call. Their stuff's pretty high quality." She replied.
"Was it that place you and your dad took our family to? That place is great." Daniel told her as Haruhi nodded before Tamaki tried not being obvious about giving her a slip of paper. Daniel looked over her shoulder as she read the letter.
"'Be careful Haruhi, just because the sushi's packaging says premium doesn't mean that it's high quality.'" She read before she crumbled it up and threw it into the trash irritated. "I'm not stupid, I could figure that out on my own." She told Tamaki.
Tamaki started fussing around upset that he got outed so quickly. "How could you do that!? Daddy even attempted to look casual and not embarrass you!" He told her.
"I think that was just the opposite, senpai," Daniel told him with a sigh.
"I'd really love it if you'd make us something for lunch, Haru-chan." Honey said with a smile on his face as he looked up at Haruhi.
"No, Honey-Senpai!"
"How could you ask that of her!?"
"Don't upset her! Try to restrain yourself!" Hikaru, Kaoru, then finally Tamaki told Honey as if the small male was asking Haruhi about something super sensitive.
"I guess I could whip something up, but it's gonna take me some time," Haruhi told Honey who brightened up at her response.
"We can wait!" He exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air.
"Why didn't we think of asking her that!?" The twins exclaimed fretting over themselves.
Tamaki held back tears. "This means that we'll get to eat Haruhi's cooking." The blonde said as he and the twins cried in joy.
Daniel couldn't help but feel like they're reacting more to Haruhi at her place than with him. "I could cook something..." He muttered.
"We'd rather not get our stomachs pumped, thank you." The twins told him making him glare at them.
"Hey! I'm getting better at cooking!" He exclaimed irritated with them as the twins snickered with a 'sure'.
"I'm gonna have to go to the supermarket again," Haruhi said making the others perk up.
"We're coming with you."
"We want to see a commoner's supermarket." The twins told her.
"Me too, me too!" Honey said jumping with excitement.
"This could be a learning experience," Kyoya replied.
"Yay! Commoner's supermarket, commoner's supermarket!" The twins grabbed hold of Daniel's arms and started chanting while running out of the apartment.
"I don't want to leave!" Daniel exclaimed while the twins dragged him out before Honey ran out with Mori following him.
"This is gonna be fun!~" Honey shouted with joy as Kyoya followed after them.
Haruhi just let out a sigh. "Well, that's it, so much for having a day off today."
Daniel squirmed in the twin's grip as he was taken down the stairs before seeing Ranka, Haruhi's dad walk by and head to their home. The twins blinked as they looked back at the adult.
"I'm home, Haruhi! Hey, why'd you leave the door open?" They heard Ranka ask.
"Well, Tamaki's not here so I could only imagine he's still with Haruhi," Daniel replied as the twins grinned and started heading back with the others following after them.
Daniel could only flinch at the sound of something hitting a wall the closer they got back to the apartment. "That sound. He hit really hard," Haruhi replied.
"Oh dear, my left arm has been bothering me lately. It's so sore like I went hand to hand with some ferocious beast. Maybe I've just been working too hard." Ranke replied as Daniel could only pray Tamaki got a quick death.
"Please sit, it's not what it looked like..." Tamaki was quietly heard.
"I could sure use a cup of hot tea about now," Ranka said as they heard the sound of frantic movement within the apartment.
"Hot tea!? I'll get it for you! Do you use fire to boil it, Haruhi? Help me out, your dad wants tea!" Tamaki exclaimed before letting a sound.
"Oh my, would you look at that! I seem to've come across a little pest. Would you like to tell me why you're addressing my daughter with such informality young man!?" Ranka asked irritated.
That was when the Twins and Daniel looked in seeing Ranka stepping on Tamaki. "Hey, boss, what in the world is taking you so long?" Hikaru asked.
"Woah, check it out. That person we passed downstairs was Haruhi's father." Kaoru stated.
"Hikaru, Kaoru, help me out here!" Tamaki exclaimed before grunting when they stepped on him holding their hand out to Ranka.
Daniel could only sweatdrop with Haruhi seeing this. "It's nice to meet you, Haruhi's dad. We're good friends of your daughters, the Hitachiin brothers." The twins smiled.
"So you're a transvestite aren't you?" Hikaru asked.
"You're the first real transvestite we've ever seen!" Kaoru smiled before both the twins looked down at Tamaki while walking on him.
"You finally put the moves on Haruhi, huh boss?" They told him.
"Sorry about him, he's a lady's man if you know what I mean," Hikaru told Ranka.
"He's a pheromone machine, in fact, I'll bet he's fooled around with more ladies than you can count!" Kaoru added, not making Tamaki's situation better.
"I doubt that," Daniel muttered to himself. Tamaki flirted a lot, but that's what a host did, Tamaki wouldn't just fool around with people, he's not like that.
"He likes to fool around, huh?" Ranka asked getting more irked before Tamaki scrambled up.
"No! I'm not a lady's man! I'm a nice guy! I care about her!" Tamaki exclaimed before bowing on the floor. "I'm completely honest here. I care about Haruhi like she's my own daughter." He told him.
"And now he gets it," Daniel stated as Ranka had a look that Tamaki was just an idiot.
"I get it, you must be the host club I've heard so much about. You certainly are a fine-looking bunch of young men." Ranka smiled as everyone was gathered around the table again while Tamaki was sulking in the corner.
"I'm not sure which of you I like best! What about you two?" Ranka asked Haruhi and Daniel before continuing on. "I tell you what, why don't you boys go ahead and call me Ranka? That's the professional name I use at the transvestite bar I work at." He told the hosts.
"Professional name? You mean like a stage name?" Honey asked as Ranka smiled at him.
"Exactly like that, Mitsukuni." He told Honey making him gasp in surprise.
"Hold on, how did you know my name, sir?" Honey asked.
Ranka simply smiled more. "You two are third-years, Mitsukuni Haninozuka and Takashi Morinozuka." He replied pointing at Honey and Mori before moving to the twins. "And the two of you are first-years in the same class as Haruhi and Daniel, you're the Hitachiin Twins, but I'm not sure which one of you is which. I've heard a lot about you!" Ranka said happily.
"What, so Haruhi told you about us?" Kaoru asked.
"No, Kyoya told me about you two over the phone!" Ranka said as he puts his hands against Kyoya's with a smile.
Kyoya smiled back. "You know you really are a beautiful person, Ranka."
"Say what!?" The hosts exclaimed.
"Kyoya!" Tamaki said grabbing Kyoya's shoulder.
"We've gone over this at Daniel's place, we've been entrusted with the care of his precious daughter. It's only natural that we introduce ourselves and give him periodic reports." Kyoya said as he took a sip of tea. "Ordinarily that would be your job, wouldn't it? Thought you would've learned that by now." Kyoya told Tamaki as Tamaki took his hand back falling over as if he was stabbed.
"I'm impressed the club has such a capable president. But wait a minute you're only the vice president aren't you, Kyoya? I guess that president of yours is pretty much good for nothing." Ranka said with a smile as Tamaki kept flinching as if he was being stabbed by multiple arrows.
"You've never mentioned this to me, dad! Why didn't you say that you've been getting calls from Kyoya-Senpai!?" Haruhi exclaimed, irritated that this was kept a secret from her.
"What am I supposed to do, Haruhi? You rarely tell me anything about school!" Ranka replied with a pout as Tamaki was starting to cultivate mushrooms in the closet.
"This is situation is very familiar," Daniel stated with a sweatdrop.
"So that makes it okay to talk behind my back!?" Haruhi exclaimed before glaring at Tamaki. "C'mon, Senpai would you please stop growing mushrooms in other people's closets!?"
"Haruhi, the thing about you is-" Ranka started before hugging her happily. "You're cute even when you're angry!~" He said rubbing his face against hers.
"I don't know what it is about him, but Haruhi's dad reminds me of someone," Hikaru said as the first person that came to mind was Tamaki.
"This explains why she's so good at handling the boss," Kaoru stated.
"Wait, Haruhi! Where are you going?" Ranka asked as Haruhi started walking away from her father to the front door.
"The supermarket, alright? I have to go shopping and I wanna do it by myself. So all of you just stay here and try to behave yourselves." She told them before walking out, shutting the door behind her.
"Wait! We want to go to the commoner's supermarket!" Hikaru called after her.
"I wouldn't push it. Once she's made her mind up, she'll never change it. When she decided she wanted to go to Ouran Academy, she did all the enrollment paperwork by herself. While I respect her independent spirit, I wished she'd be a little more dependent on me sometimes." Ranka told them with a small sigh as he reminisced about the past.
"I hope you boys know how grateful I am. Since she's found you, she seems to be happier. She's enjoying herself, wouldn't you agree, Tamaki Suoh?" Ranka asked Tamaki while taking a sip of tea.
Tamaki came out of the now mushroom closet. "You know who I am?" He asked.
"Well, of course, I do, Haruhi's told me a thing or two about you. You're the host club's bumbling president, right?" He told him as Tamaki sobbed happily.
'Haruhi talks about Tamaki, but not the others, huh?' Daniel thought to himself and glanced over at Kyoya knowing he was thinking the same thing when he saw the male glance back at him.
"Come to think of it, you're the one who didn't realize Haruhi was a girl until the very last moment. You're clueless, aren't you. Pretty pathetic." Ranka told Tamaki before drinking his tea as Tamaki sobbed sadly and went back into the closet.
"Now that we've gotten all the introductions out of the way, how would you boys like to have a little fun?" Ranka asked with a small smirk.
Soon all of them were outside with Haruhi in their sights as they were following her.
"So we're going to follow her to the supermarket?" The twins asked from behind a pole looking after Haruhi.
"What if she turns around, we kinda stand out," Daniel said with a sigh.
"This is what you meant by fun?" Kyoya asked Ranka.
"Yes, I call it, 'The Stalking Game'," Ranka said he was wearing sunglasses and a fur scarf.
"What an attractive group of young men!" Daniel heard a woman say.
"Do you think they're TV stars?" Another woman asked making Daniel sigh.
"In all honestly." Ranka started taking off his sunglasses. "I have a completely selfish reason for bringing you out with me. I want to be seen with a bunch of cute boys!" He exclaimed.
"Sure enough, those two are definitely cut from the same cloth." The twin stated.
"Tell me about it." Daniel agreed with them before they kept following after Haruhi.
Soon enough once at the supermarket the other hosts immediately dispersed to go exploring. Daniel could only rub his temple as the only ones that were still watching Haruhi were Tamaki and her dad.
He jumped back when Mori ran by him pushing a cart with Honey in it. "Wee! Faster, Takashi!" Honey exclaimed happily.
"So does double coupons mean I need two of them?" Kyoya talked to himself as he wrote in a notebook while he walked around the supermarket.
"Ahh, there's a whole stack of commoner's coffee!" Daniel heard Hikaru exclaim making him immediately turn seeing the twins filling a cart full of coffee.
"Hey! stop that! You can't get all of that!" Daniel exclaimed running after them.
When they all got back to Haruhi's place Haruhi made some stewpot for them to eat. Daniel could only watch as Ranka was piling Tamaki's plate with chrysanthemum, sweatdropping. "Here, Tamaki, have some chrysanthemum, your favorite!" Ranka said as Tamaki was teary-eyed watching it happen.
"Good work, Haru-chan, it's delicious!" Honey said.
"Yeah, I agree, it's not bad." Mori agreed.
"Don't hog all the meat though!" Kaoru told them.
"What's going on here..." Haruhi said with her own sweatdrop.
"Please let this be over soon." Daniel sighed as he ate the food.
