Daniel breathed in the fresh air as he sat at a table outside. "I could always help you out you know." He said looking at Haruhi as she was wearing an apron.

"Yeah, but you're not the one who has to work, besides I don't mind. This is nice compared to the Host Club." Haruhi replied as she carried a laundry basket full of sheets.

"I'm surprised I was allowed to stay in the same room as you." Daniel said as he laid his head on his head watching her.

"I don't mind, besides don't you like guys?" She asked making him blush.

"What gave you that idea?" He asked as he looked at her.

She simply shrugged. "Intuition." She simply said before starting to hang the sheets on the clothesline. "Plus you got your own room anyway because of your parents giving Misuzu-chi money to let you stay here."

"Yeah but I liked sleeping over in your room." Daniel said as Haruhi sighed.

"You're lucky you're not any of the others or else I would have a problem." She said to him.

He sighed shaking his head with a chuckle and took out his phone and seeing some texts from Jiro, Riku, and Hikari. Hikari sent him pictures and he was a bit surprised to see he was hanging with Aaron.

Jiro was asking questions in the group chat as well as spamming pictures of stuff he got. He blinked when he saw a familiar cat doll in one of the pictures, but it was pink. 'Is that Nekozawa's cat doll?' Daniel texted.

'Yeah! Umehito gave it to me, and look it's pink like my hair!' Jiro texted with a bunch of heart emoji's.

'You call him by his first name?' Daniel asked now curious on what his friends were doing.

'Yeah, I don't want to say we're together together, but I've been seeing him for a couple of weeks. No biggy :)' Jiro texted like that was nothing.

"Jiro's dating Nekozawa-senpai!?" Daniel exclaimed out loud and Haruhi looked over shocked.

"What? When did that happen?" She asked looking at Daniel for answers.

"Apparently a few weeks ago." Daniel said wondering how he missed that but looking back the others were just as shocked texting Jiro through the group chat.

'Yeah, he invited me to go with him and his family to a vacation, just look at my room!' Jiro texted before before sending pictures of him in a hotel room with two big beds before sending pictures of him with Kirimi and Nekozawa.

'Where are you!?' Riku texted him.

'Hawaii, we're getting room service since Umehito is sun tired, it's like 5 pm here so we're going to eat dinner.' Jiro replied.

'Wear protection.' Was all Yuri replied and Daniel sighed as he texted he's heading offline for now before shutting off his phone.

"They're in Hawaii." Daniel told Haruhi and sighed. He wanted to go to Hawaii, but he still doesn't have a passport, not yet at least.

"That's cool, good for them." Haruhi replied as she had gotten back to putting up bed sheets.

"I like it here, At first I was a little apprehensive about not telling the guys my plans for the summer, but it isn't like they really have the free time to keep tabs on us anyway right? This place is so tranquil. Fresh air, quaint setting. The perfect island get away for a girl to catch up on her studies. It's gonna be great." Haruhi told him smiling as she looked up at the sky.

"I wasn't going to tell them what I was doing, it was nice you letting me come along. The guys probably have stuff they're doing anyway to be dealing with us." Daniel agreed with her sitting back in his seat enjoying the slight breeze. Before that breeze turned wild and a helicopter flew overhead.

"Oh no." Daniel said looking up seeing Tamaki with a microphone in his hand.

"HARUHI! DANIEL! Despair not! Daddy's come to save you!" Tamai shouted and Daniel groaned and looked over at Haruhi.

"Did I say great? I meant a nightmare." Haruhi said staring at the helicopter as sheets blew off the lines.

All the hosts stood in the pension Haruhi and Daniel were staying at. Misuzu, the owner of the Pension was gushing over the boys.

"Oh my~! What dashing young men you are! These hunks must belong to you two, Daniel and Haruhi!" Misuzu gushed having his hands to his cheeks while the hosts looked at him. "Why don't you call me Misuzu-chi?" He told them.

"He's an old friend of Ranka's. They used to work together at the same shop years ago." Kyoya informed them, wearing some casual clothes, a hand on his hip.

Tamaki got a bit irked looking at him. "Well naturally you would know."

Haruhi looked to the side with a sigh. "Kill me." She muttered.

"I would but I don't want to go to prison." Daniel replied with a mutter while laying his head on a table not believing they were actually there.

Misuzu started spinning around with purple flowers surrounding him. "I went into business for myself two years ago, and believe you me. Running this adorable little pension is like living a fairy tale~!" He sung a bit.

"So then, is Haru-Chan like your indentured servant?" Honey asked with his stuffed rabbit, Usa-chan in his arms looking up at Misuzu.

"She's more like an unpaid employee. This also happens to be Ranka's preferred method for keeping track of his daughter while he's busy working." Kyoya answered Honey's question while pushing up his glasses.

This information caused Tamaki to be more irritated, sliding over to him. "What the? How do you know all of this stuff?" He asked with a pouty voice while Haruhi asked to be killed again.

""'Take my little girl under your wing,' he says. He practically begged me. And since I still can't afford the expensive hired help, it works out for everyone! And she brought on this cutie Daniel with her and he's been some great help even when he's a guest!" Misuzu said swaying Haruhi by the shoulders while Daniel was sparred.

"Haruhi's a model employee, really. It's such a shame I can't pay her anything." He added before turning Haruhi to the boys. "Oh! Tell me what you boys think of this cute little apron she's wearing. I made it myself!" He said presenting her proudly.

The hosts all gave a thumbs up while Kyoya wrote in his notebook. "You are quite an exquisite seamstress!" Tamaki complimented.

Soon they were all outside sitting at the outdoor tables, the sheets all hung back up. "A job huh? I don't get it, you two turned down our invitation to Bali for this?" Kaoru asked.

"And we even asked her to go with us to Switzerland, didn't we?" Honey said as he, the twins, Daniel and Haruhi were sitting at the same table.

"We did." Mori said as he stood behind Haruhi.

"Yeah well we don't have passports to go off country." Daniel replied sitting in between Haruhi and Hikaru.

"Which is precisely why I recommended one of our domestic resorts, and at a discount no less." Kyoya said as he sat at a separate table next to them, writing in his notebook.

"Discount or not it would've been too expensive for me." Daniel replied with a huff.

Tamaki meanwhile pops out of the bushes, irk marks on his head and leaves in his hair as he's shaking with anger. "Traitors. Asking Haruhi and Daniel to go on a summer vacation with you behind my back. Have you no feeling of loyalty, of any solidarity?" He said before crumbling to the ground, his head bowed down gripping the grass. "Togetherness is our guiding principal. I work myself to the bone upholding that and this is the thanks I get." He sobbed.

As usual though they ignored him. "Why was your cell phone-"

"Turned off, Haruhi?" The twins asked her.

"I just don't think about it really." Haruhi replied.

"Is that why you won't answer our texts either, Daniel?" The twins looked to Daniel.

"I just felt like ghosting you two." Daniel replied making them pout.

"So mean." They said as Tamaki pales, gasping and walking over to them as they had their phones out.

"Did you say... You guys have cellphones?" Tamaki asked.

"I've had one for awhile, how else do you think I contact my friends and family?" Daniel said looking at the blonde.

"And we convinced Haruhi she should borrow one of ours so we can keep in touch." Hikaru said to him.

"It's a part of a special friends and family plan." Kaoru said and Hiakru started looking smug.

"Yea, we're in each other's top five." Hikaru boasted to him knowing it would get a reaction out of Tamaki.

"Top five!?" Tamaki exclaimed but paused. "Friends and family? But wait, I'm your daddy and buddy, so I'm part of the plan too right?" He asked Haruhi looking at her.

Haruhi looked at him with a blank expression on her face. "Senpai, whatever planet your on, come home." She told him before standing from her seat. "Speaking of which, why are you even here? I'm going to have to see you guys everyday when the new term starts. Don't I have the right to spend my summer vacation the way I want to?"

Kyoya's glasses glinted as he held the Ouran handbook. "According to the handbook, jobs are prohibited." He said and Haruhi paused.

"I uh-... Had no idea..." She said and the twins grinned with evil faces while Daniel snatched the handbook from Kyoya.

"Hey did you hear? Haruhi went and got herself a job without the school's permission." Hikaru said to Kaoru.

"No way, that's grounds for expulsion." Kaoru replied.

"Yeah, yeah but we have a handbook!?" Daniel asked as he opened and looked through the handbook.

"You should've gotten one when you were accepted." Kyoya told him while pushing up his glasses.

"I don't remember that." Daniel said as he tried thinking if he actually did get the handbook but sweated a bit as a memory flashed in his mind as he got his uniform and dropping the box in the trash, a book seen in the box.

Honey meanwhile looked at a Karuizawa pamphlet while clinging to Mori's back. "Well I think Karuizawa is way better than Switzerland anyway." Honey said and Mori nodded.

"And overseas travel is so exhausting." Kyoya hummed.

"Of course, you do have the right to spend your vacation as you please. But then again, like it or not, so do we. And you know, I for one find Pension Misuzu to be exceptionally charming." Tamaki said smirking slightly with a hand under his chin and looked over at Haruhi.

Haruhi twitched a bit before letting out the loudest 'No' Daniel has heard from her seeing her fall to her knees in anguish. "You shouldn't be surprised they'd do this." Daniel told her.

"Just give me a moment please." Haruhi muttered to him as Tamaki looked like he was in one of his fantasies again.

"Uh, Senpai? Hello?" Daniel said waving his hand in front of Tamaki's face to try and get his attention.

"I'm so sorry boys! I'd love to have you all as guests, but I'm afraid there's only one vacant room left." Misuzu told the hosts as they were back inside the pension.

Tamaki perked up when he mentioned only having one room. "Only one room you say? Well that settles it. I will have to stay here to represent the club." He said pointing to himself.

Honey grabbed the bottom of Tamaki's shirt teary-eyed while holding Usa-Chan. "Hey, that isn't fair!" He replied looking up at Tamaki as the twins were on their hands and knees.

"Have you no feeling of loyalty? Of any solidarity boss?" Hikaru asked in a fake sad voice with Kaoru.

"Togetherness is our guiding principal." Kaoru continued quoting Tamaki's words mocking the blonde as they chuckled to each other.

Tamaki shook as he looked at his hands. "My own words twisted... and thrown right back at my face."

The twins stood up from the ground putting their arms around each other's shoulders. "Here's an idea. We bet you'll like it, why not hold a little competition?" They suggested.

"Call it, 'The Guest Relations Odd Jobs Contest at Pension Misuzu's'." Kaoru said as Tamaki perked up, interested.

"That's too long of a name for anything." Daniel replied before Hikaru continued.

"It's a very simple game, we all just lend a hand around the place for the afternoon."

"And whoever makes the best impression on Misuzu-Chi gets to sleep in the vacant guest bedroom." Kaoru finished, the two smiling as Misuzu beamed.

"That's BRILLIANT! I think it's an absolutely delightful idea! Yes, the winner of the contest will be determined by how refreshing they are! Remember, 'Refreshing' is the name of the game in guest relations!" He told them all as Haruhi was moping in the background, defeated.

"Refreshing! Refreshing! Yay!" The twins exclaimed throwing their hands up into the air.

"Now don't think this is going to be a walk in the park." Misuzu said and pointed at the hosts. "Cause I'm planning on working you boys to the bone!" He exclaimed.

"Sounds like a blast..." Haruhi groaned as Daniel patted her head.

"You may not believe this, but this is the first time I held a hammer in my life." Tamaki said pounding nails into the white fence horribly as Honey sat on a stool eating cake.

"Just watching you work makes me feel tired." Honey said kicking his feet before Misuzu showed up pointing at them.

"You there! No complaining! Three point deduction." He said making them both exclaim a 'what' before Tamaki missed the nail and hit his thumb with the hammer and falls to the ground, clutching his hand in pain.

"The pain... The pain!" Tamaki whimpered as his thumb throbbed.

"And no whining either. That'll be another three points." Misuzu said before Honey comes up to them giggling and acting all cute. "You think that's going to change my mind?" He said leaving the two sulking at the fence.

Daniel blinked watching them from the window from inside the Pension. He looked over seeing the twins at the entrance doors of the pension. "Welcome!" They said making the two girls sigh in awe of them.

"W-we have reservations made for a second floor bedroom." One of the girls said and the two grabbed their bags.

"Yes of course! Right this way ladies!" Hikaru told them.

"We've been expecting you. Although we weren't expecting you to be so young and pretty~." Kaoru said and Daniel rolled his eyes at their act.

Misuzu stood by with a hum. "Fine fine, not exactly subtle, but they do get the job done. So, five refresher points for them." He said as Mori walked by. "Ah Mori, the legs on this table are wobbly. Would you be a dear and fix it out back please?" He asked Mori.

Mori looked at the table and picked it up, putting it on his shoulder. "Sure thing." He said as Misuzu watches him leave with a giggle as Daniel held a cup of tea as he stared blankly at the empty space where the table was... That he was sitting at.

"Nothing wasted in word or deed! Five refresher points!" Misuzu said as Haruhi walked over to them.

"So what exactly is a refresher point?" She asked sweatdropping a bit.

"Hm. Haruhi? What do you think guests are after when they come all the way out to vacation in Karuizawa?"

Haruhi puts her fist under her chin, holding it there with her other hand. "Let's see... The nice weather?" She questioned.

"More like, it's a change from the city lights to the sight of nature all around." Daniel said and Misuzu pointed at him.

"Exactly! They come for what they can't get in the city~ Refreshing air, refreshing scenery, and refreshingly gorgeous young men! And now, thanks to your friends and their little contest, my Pension will earn a reputation for being the premiere hotspot for vacationers in search of the finest eye candy Karuizawa can offer!" He exclaimed as he was suddenly on the roof spinning around laughing.

"Okay, sounds like you have a plan. And it's uncanny how much you remind me of someone else I know." Haruhi replied as Daniel stood next to her.

"Who?" Daniel asked her as she looked at him blankly. "What?" He asked before looking behind him seeing Kyoya sitting at one of the outdoor tables. "Kyoya-Senpai, aren't you going to join the others?" He questioned.

"If I did, winning means I'd end up staying here alone, which frankly doesn't appeal to me. I'll just sit back and watch things unfold, then head for the cottage." Kyoya answered him.

"The cottage? You mean, your family's?" Haruhi asked coming over to his table.

"That's right. We all have one in the area." Kyoya told them as Haruhi looked irritated at that found knowledge.

"Why am I not surprised." Daniel said monotonously.

"So who's your favorite to win? There must be someone you have in mind. Do you care to bet?" Kyoya asked them.

"I don't bet with the devil." Daniel replied as Haruhi hummed.

"No thanks, I don't have a clue who'll win." Haruhi said as Kyoya smiled a bit, amused.

"Really. It's easy enough to tell at a glance. Honey Senpai's brand of cute doesn't quite fit Misuzu's notion of refreshing. So I'm afraid he's out. Tamaki comes a little closer to the ideal, provided he keeps his mouth shut. But, we both know the likelihood of that." Kyoya said and Daniel nodded knowing Tamaki couldn't shut up for the life of him.

"Ordinarily you'd figure Hikaru and Kaoru. Then again, it seems we have a dark horse." Kyoya said resting his arm on the table, his hand under his chin as he watches Mori with a smirk.

Daniel looked in the direction Kyoya was looking at seeing Mori chopping firewood with his shirt off. He glanced to the window where guests were watching as Mori takes a drink of water.

"Oh my!"

"Gorgeous!" The girls commented watching Mori.

"That's twenty more refresher points to Mori!" Misuzu sang startling Daniel a bit making him jump slightly.

"So you think he's the one?" Haruhi asked Kyoya.

"Except that if Honey Senpai drops out, Mori Senpai is bound to go along with him. His competing the game at all is more or less conditional to that." Kyoya replied.

"Which means,"

"Victory will be ours." The twins said smiling while sitting at another table.

"Well maybe not. I couldn't help but notice that the only room still available is a single bed. So if you did win, you couldn't both stay." Haruhi told them.

"They sleep in the same bed at their mansion, I don't think they'll care about having to share a bed." Daniel told her.

"Yeah or we could just bring another bed over from the cottage." Hikaru shrugged as Haruhi smiled.

"How sweet, I guess you guys really are always together, huh." She said as Kaoru nodded.

"Always." Kaoru smiled.

"The two of us have been together since we were born. So we haven't ever needed anybody else." Hikaru told them.

"We never bothered making other friends until a few years ago. We thought the world was made up of idiots." Kaoru said as Haruhi and Daniel looked at them.

"Oh really?" She said blankly.

"You're not wrong. There are a lot of idiots in the world." Daniel said sitting down.

"Well that was before I knew you... We! Before we knew you and Haruhi!" Hikaru said feeling his face heat up.

"We'd totally let you sleep with us." Kaoru said as Haruhi looked away.

"Uh thanks, I'll pass." Haruhi said as Daniel agreed.

"Yeah, no way." Daniel said, oblivious to the situation Hikaru put himself through.

"The contest isn't quite decided yet. There's still a number of ways to make this game more interesting." Kyoya said pushing up his glasses.

"Oh yeah? Thinking about helping the boss are you?" Kaoru asked Kyoya looking over at the other male.

"We're not going to lose, it's no use." Hikaru said confidently, seemingly over his little slip up of showing his feelings to Daniel. Kyoya's only response was a chuckle.

Tamaki was then shown putting his hand to his forehead playing into the dramatics of 'refreshingness'. "There, all in a days work!" He said having finished the fence as Misuzu walked over seeing the fence be in worse condition than when he started.

"Oh your repairs are totally unrefreshing. Three point deduction." Misuzu told him holding up three fingers as he left as Tamaki sulked.

"He used up so much of his energy trying to be refreshing that his work suffered for it. Is he alright in the head?" Haruhi asked Kyoya.

"He's never had an actual job before y'know." Kyoya informed her.

Daniel sighed going over to the blonde. "Come on Senpai, you did a good job for your first try." He told him making Tamaki look at him.

"Really?" He asked him and Daniel looked at the fence again.

"Yeah no it's awful, but you didn't give up." Daniel said as Tamaki sulked some more before hearing the twins laughing as they played with the hose.

"Hey cut it out, that's cold!" Kaoru told his brother as Hikaru held the hose chuckling before putting it down and pulling a watermelon out of a tub.

"We have to chill the watermelon~. That's how our guests like it." Hikaru said looking over at a few girls who were watching them.

"Oh~ So refreshing!" The guests swooned.

Daniel looked over to Tamaki falling on all fours on the grass shaking a bit. Daniel felt a little bad for him and about to comfort him more before Tamaki exclaimed to the sky; "She has to understand that I am worthy of being considered part of her top five!"

"You're still not over the phone thing aren't you..." Daniel sighed.

"Grandiose ambitions aside, I think your approach to winning is a bit skewed." Kyoya told him as Daniel decide to leave Tamaki to Kyoya as he headed off inside.

Daniel was pretty tired dealing with the hosts dumb game only pausing a bit when he heard the piano play. He looked and saw Hikari by a supply closet listening to Tamaki play the piano.

"Where's Kaoru?" Daniel asked making Hikaru jump a bit almost making all the stuff in the supply closet fall out.

Hikaru let out a sigh of relief when the stuff steadied and looked over at Daniel seeing him ready to keep stuff from falling. "He's out back sweeping, I was just getting some trash bags." He told him and Daniel nodded.

"Do you still think you two are going to win?" Daniel asked as Hikaru got some trash bags out making sure the box was put back.

"Now? Not sure, was hoping Kyoya Senpai didn't mention the piano to him." Daniel replied looking away from him making Daniel frown a bit.

"Hikaru? Are you alright? You've been acting a little weird. Are you sick?" Daniel asked him approaching him to see if he had a fever.

Hikaru's eyes widen stepping back. "I'm fine! Just not used to working, that's all." He said blushing a bit before pausing as they heard glass shattering. "Kaoru!" He exclaimed running out as Daniel ran after him as the music stopped.

When they got out back they saw glass around Kaoru and Haruhi, the window frame next to them. "Haruhi, Kaoru!" Daniel exclaimed before Hikaru rushed forward to Kaoru with wide eyes grabbing his face to face him.

"You're hurt, let me see." Hikaru said as Kaoru noticed he got cut by the glass.

"I'm fine, it's only a little cut." Kaoru smiled gently at his brother seeing the look in Hikaru's eyes before the other put his head on Kaoru's shoulder. "Hikaru?" He asked softly.

Hikaru shook slightly. "Don't scare me like that." He told him quietly.

"Hey, I'm sorry. Do you forgive me?" Kaoru asked softly to him and Hikaru looked up seeing Kaoru smiling at him and smiled back.

Misuzu was crying a river full of tears watching the two. "Bravo! Bravo! 100 points for refreshing brotherly love! A perfect score! And the victory goes to the Hitachiin brothers!" He exclaimed spinning on the roof as the twins stood up giving 'V' signs with their hands.

Haruhi stood up wiping down her apron and walking over. "Congrats you guys." She told them.

The twins turned towards Haruhi holding each other's hands giving off dark smiles. "Oh it was nothing really." They told her making her eyes widen.

"What the-Hang on a second, was all of that staged?" She questioned them as they shrugged.

"Well now, who could say?" They hummed as Daniel went over.

"It better not have been staged, getting hurt like that is not worth winning! I'll get the med kit. " Daniel exclaimed making the twins look at him, seeing him head inside.

The next morning the twins were heading down the stairs. "C'mon, I said I was sorry." Hikaru said sounding irritated. "What do you want me to do? I didn't mean to kick you out of bed, it was an accident."

Kaoru was in front of Hikaru huffing as Hikaru trailed behind him. "Accident or not my back is killing me." He replied back as they sit at a table as Haruhi was already up working and stood at their table as Hikaru waved her over.

"Get us some breakfast please, I'll have two pieces of baguette toast with clarified butter and garnet seal syrup." Hikaru asked her.

"I'll take poached eggs with bacon and a bowl of whole grained cereal, the kind with those little pieces of dried fruit in it." Kaoru asked her as she stared at them.

"Hold on! We don't even have that stuff on the menu." She told them making them look at her.

"Huh!?" They asked before Tamaki launched over smacking them both in the back of the head.

"Hey! Just who in the world do you think you are? Acting like members of some privileged aristocracy on holiday." Tamaki asked them.

"We are aristocracy." Hikaru retorted looking at Tamaki.

"So are you boss." Kaoru said as Tamaki stood straight up.

"You are missing the whole point of travel." Tamaki told them as he held a serving platter in his hands. "When in Rome, do as the Romans do, that's what I say." He said before taking the lid off revealing the food that's common in Karuizawa.

"Just look at this. Karuizawa cuisine fit for a king~. Cold pasteurized Jersey steaks, fresh juice, highland vegetables, smoked salmon cooked over cherry wood; the local pride I might add, and last but not least freshly baked breads with homemade jam~ Bon appetite~." Tamaki told them proudly.

"Since when have you,-" "Been such a connoisseur?" The twins asked him before Haruhi answered them.

"Oh, since he started learning from Misuzu. He's been in the kitchen with him all morning long." She said as Tamaki held a guide book.

"While the two of you were sleeping the day away, I decided to start a refreshing host workshop. I even wrote a manual." Tamaki told them.

"You really need a life." Haruhi told Tamaki sweatdropping a bit before Tamaki heads over next to her, reading from the guidebook.

"While you are acting as my apprentice you may not treat me as your Senpai. That is the first rule I have written." Tamaki told her.

"Really." She said blankly as the twins were looking in the book.

"Hey wait, have you got to rule number five yet? It says we have to be up by six AM." Hikaru said looking at the rules.

"Have Kyoya Senpai and Honey Senpai read through the manual yet?" Kaoru asked the blonde.

"Daniel doesn't even wake up that early." Hikaru said watching Tamaki stumble backwards having flashbacks before sobbing in the corner.

The twins looked at each other concerned and looked at him. "Hey look, we're sorry boss." Hikaru said as Kaoru stood by him.

"We didn't mean to stir up painful memories!" Kaoru told him as Haruhi sighed.

Daniel headed down the stairs rubbing his eyes, still in his pajamas. "Why is everyone up so early?" He whined as Hikaru felt his face heat up seeing him come over and sit at their table laying his head on the table. "Hungry." He mumbled reaching for the platter of food Tamaki had shown to eat it.

Soon the bell at the door chimes as it opens. "Good morning. Arai Produce." A boy said carrying a box of produce.

Misuzu walks up to the boy. "Good morning to you! Working boy aye?" He asked looking him over. "A highschooler?"

"Yes ma'am. I'm helping out at my Uncle's shop for the summer." The boy replied as Misuzu's eyes lit up.

"How refreshing! Haruhi! Would you put these in the refrigerator for me?" He called to her.

"Okay." Haruhi said walking over as the boy leans over to look at her, the hat he was wearing falling off.

"Haruhi... Fujioka?" He questioned as she gasps quietly looking at him.

"Hey... Arai." She said as they looked at them as the twins and Tamaki looked between the two as Daniel was eating the bread with the jam tiredly.
