"He really did that?"
"Yes, I was rather impressed."
"Who are we talking about, ladies?" Robin approached with a soft smile, "Let me guess, Chrom?"
"No, Dad, Mother was telling me about the time you reworked the Shepherds' entire battle formation just so that she could stay near her parents."
"Ah," Robin blushed a little not one to take praise well, "I don't think it was all that impressive." Though, he did stay up half the night finding a way to make it work.
"All the same," Lucina smiled lightly, "I appreciate it."
"You're very welcome," Robin nodded politely as Morgan kept looking back and forth between the two expecting…a little more romance, "Well, if you'll excuse me, I have mess duty tonight. Wish everyone else luck."
"Why would I wish them luck?" Lucina lightly tilted her head to the side, "You are the one on duty." Morgan in turn smacked her forehead.
"Er, it's a joke. It's supposed to imply I'm not very good at cooking."
"I do not recall you being particularly bad at cooking. Especially not to the point of causing others duress."
"Uh, sure. Thanks. I guess. Well, see you at dinner."
"Bye, dad."
"Farewell."
After Robin had left earshot, Morgan turned to ace her mother, "Mom, what was that?"
Lucina looked at her daughter in confusion, "What was what?"
"You were both so…" Morgan fumbled with her hands looking for the right word, "Formal!"
"And…that's a problem?"
"Yes!" Morgan threw her hands up into the air dramatically, "You should be making moves on him!"
"E-excuse me?" Lucina could not help a blush rising to her cheeks.
"I mean, it should be pretty easy with me here. Like this, 'Hey, Robin, you know our amazingly adorable and awesome daughter? Yeah, she's pretty great. She is, and we should get married and start making her plenty of siblings."
"Morgan!" Lucina shouted with her face becoming an even deeper shade of scarlet, "I don't think that's an appropriate topic for a young lady!"
"Fine, fine, but you have a golden opportunity here to woo him, and you're not using it! You…you do like him, don't you?"
"I…never really thought it was possible. I've maintained that I needed to go back to my own world when this was over, and even if that was impossible, I thought my presence would create too much strife for my parents. Add that Robin is one of my father's closest advisors, and it just…felt too impossible t-to love him. No matter how much I wanted to."
"But…I should prove that you can be with him, right?"
Lucina gave her daughter a soft smile, "I suppose you do."
"Then what are you waiting for?"
"I, well," Lucina rubbed her arm awkwardly, "I've never really been good at this sort of thing. I suppose I'm a bit...scared as well."
"Well, how about a romantic dinner? Think of it! Bonding under the moonlight. Two lovebirds confessing their love under the twinkling of the stars."
"I wouldn't know how to put something like that together."
Morgan grinned confidently, "Leave that to me."
"Right this way, my good sir," Morgan led her father toward an empty command tent she had repurposed to a dining room for the evening, and hopefully into the birthplace of a lifelong romance.
"Morgan," Robin was clearly suspect, "Is this another one of your pranks?"
"Nope," Morgan declared happily as they arrived at the tent, "Now, go in there and be charming!"
Robin skeptically entered the command tent where he did see the main table covered with a white cloth along with a candle in the center. Robin then poked his head back out.
"Morgan, there's no one here."
"What?" Morgan pulled the tent flap back and saw that, indeed, her mother was nowhere to be seen, "Wait here!" Morgan told her father hastily before darting off to find her mother. Robin blinked twice before sighing and going to take a seat.
"Mom!" Morgan darted into her mother's tent to find her pacing around nervously, "What are you doing? He's waiting!"
"Remember how you asked if I liked him?" Lucina responded without ceasing her pacing.
"Yeah," Morgan spoke slowly unsure as to where this was going.
"Well, I do," Lucina looked her daughter in the eye, "And I'm terrified! What if I say something embarrassing? No, not 'if', 'when.' The first time he tells a joke I'll probably just end up looking stupid! What was I thinking? He could have his pick of many beautiful women. Why would he pick me?"
Morgan sighed, "Don't I kind of allay some of these fears?"
"What if you're just a one in a million chance though?" Lucina asked in borderline paranoia as Morgan rounded her and started to push her out of the tent.
"Then it's time to make it two out of a million."
"M-Morgan! Wait! W-what about my hair?"
"It's perfect like always," Morgan did not let up, "Now, come on, the love of your life is waiting."
"But, but, my clothes!"
"Don't worry, he's not dressed up either."
With that, Lucina finally accepted her fate of going on a date with the man of her dreams. Oh, the humanity.
Lucina did at least start moving of her own volition before Robin could see Morgan forcing the older woman toward the tent. That did not mean she was not incredibly rigid when she took her seat across from him, however. It was clear that she was extremely nervous.
"Alright, sir and madame," Morgan spoke extravagantly in front of their table, "I hope you will enjoy your evening here tonight."
"Where did you get that hat?" Robin deadpanned staring at Morgan's white and fluffy chef's hat.
"From Lady Cherche, why do you ask?"
"I should have known," Robin mumbled under his breath.
"Anyway, here are your menus," Morgan handed each of them a single piece of paper.
"Morgan," Robin looked up from his "menu," "There's only one thing on here."
"Then it shouldn't take you long to decide."
"Er, right, guess we'll have a double order of your special then," Robin handed the paper back to Morgan.
"Excellent choice," Morgan collected her mother's "menu" and went on her way leaving her parents behind.
Almost as soon as Morgan was gone, Lucina collapsed into her own arms, "I'm so sorry about this, Robin."
"Hmm?" Robin raised a brow, "Why are you sorry?"
"This is so embarrassing. I'm sorry you got pulled into this."
Robin smirked, "Don't worry. She's a bundle of energy. It's kind of entertaining once you get past the embarrassment."
"So, you're okay with us being...on a date?"
"Well," Robin put his elbows on the table and leaned forward, "Are you okay with it?"
"I, uh, I think it could be...nice."
Robin smiled, "So do I. I know this is all a bit sudden, but I, um, I, well, let's just say, that I'm glad it was you."
Lucina's blush matched Robin's, "You are?"
"I am, but there's no need to rush things. I'm more than happy to take it as slow as you'd like."
"I...thank you, Robin," Lucina smiled very genuinely. She was still unsure where exactly they stood, but they at least seemed to be moving forward.
"Tada!" Morgan came barging into the tent again holding two plates. She set them down in front of her parents with a wide grin, "Enjoy!"
"Er, what is it?" Lucina had learned not to be too picky with her food, but she had come to expect a little more since joining the Shepherds.
"I think it's some kind of chicken."
"You think?" Robin looked at her incredulously.
"I didn't exactly have a lot of gourmet ingredients to work with."
Both parents looked at each other and shrugged before taking a bite. Robin's face immediately contorted to a confused expression, but Lucina held her composure quite nicely.
"Thank you for this meal," Lucina smiled at her daughter.
"I'll be right outside if you need me," Morgan grinned triumphantly on her way out.
Once she was gone, Lucina leaned forward and whispered to Robin, "I think that perhaps I should cook next time."
Robin smiled back at her if just because that meant there would be a next time.
A/N: Never underestimate a single review (even if I don't necessarily agree with the methods presented) which I think led to this one as well as perhaps at least one other idea, but that one may not come out for some time if at all.
I don't like it, but I think I'll be abandoning the Smash story. I think I uploaded prematurely there. That said, I am considering doing precursor stories for both Lucina and Robin. Then maybe a bigger project.
