It was a peaceful morning. Robin and Lucina were barely conscious to the world, leaving them to a blissful state of relaxation. Robin held his wife tight while she tenderly leaned in to his familiar warmth. It was an idyllic scene of marital bliss. One they would have been content staying in for hours to come.
However, their daughter had other plans.
"Mommy! Daddy! Wake up!" The excitable five year old pounced on their moment of weakness, immediately jarring the two awake. She was lucky that her mother's jerkiness had dulled considerably.
"What time is it?" Robin groaned while not daring to look at their daughter lest he succumb to her adorableness.
"The sun's up this time at least," Lucina groaned as she pulled herself up to rest against the headboard. Patting her lap, she beckoned her daughter forward. "Now, what was so important that you had to pounce us so early?"
"I want to hear a story!" She happily declared from her mother's lap.
"We just gave you one last night," Robin protested, but he made the critical error of looking her in the eyes. Sighing, he knew he was done, "Alright, what did you want to hear?"
"I wanted to hear how Mommy gave Daddy a black eye!"
"T-that was an accident!" Lucina blushed at the long buried memory, "Who even told you about that?"
"I heard Grandma talking to Grandpa, but she wouldn't tell me about it."
Lucina sighed, half in frustration, half in defeat, "It's really not that grand of a tale."
"Aw, pleeeeeeease?"
"Yeah, pleeeeeeese?" Robin joined in getting a glare from his wife.
"Fine, fine."
"Yippee!" Morgan made herself comfortable and waited eagerly. Robin also made a show of resting his cheeks on his hands in mock rapture at the oncoming story. She supposed this may have been a form of comeuppance even if it came several years late.
Lucina was swinging away by herself as she often did. She had been at it for hours, and the morning was now in full swing. However, she was completely focused on her movements. She let the world fade away and focused intently on her training.
"Good morning, Princess."
She was so focused that when she suddenly heard a voice from behind, she reflexively turned and swung her practice sword at the intruder. Unfortunately for her, it was not an assassin, but in fact, their charming tactician. Though he was looking a bit less charming holding his face on the ground.
"Robin!" Lucina dropped her weapon and covered her mouth, "I'm so sorry! I didn't know it was you."
"Well, I'm glad it wasn't intentional at least," Robin pulled himself up to his feet while trying to smile, "And that you didn't have Falchion."
"Let me see," Lucina tried to pull his hand away.
"Ah, it's alright," Robin insisted, trying to hide his grimace.
"I have a little field medical training. Let me check it," Robin finally relented and removed his hand. Lucina grimaced at what she saw.
"That bad, huh?"
"Come, we should go see Aunt Lissa."
"No, no, I'm fine," Robin tried and failed to hide his wince, "Nothing to waste resources on. Besides, LIssa's really busy."
Lucina sighed realizing that he would not back down, "Well, if you won't go see a healer, might I at least know what you came over here for? I promise to help however I can."
"Oh, it's nothing all that big. Was just wanting to talk."
"Oh," Lucina was not sure what to make of that, "About a mission?"
"No, just wanted to get to know you a little better. Wasn't expecting a black eye, but you surprised me at least."
Lucina blushed furiously, "Apologies. I'm afraid I'm a horrible conversationalist."
"Well, you got a mean swing at least," Robin smiled, "Maybe, uh, we can pick up this chat some other time."
Lucina felt she owed him at this point, "Certainly. Lunch?"
"Sure. Now, uh, I think I'll go lie down."
After he was gone, Lucina let out her breath, "Way to go, Lucina."
Morgan was a giggling mess as Lucina was mortified to relive that memory. Her cheeky husband was not helping matters as he smiled widely while holding their three year old son who had wandered in to see what the commotion was all about.
"He spooked me," Lucina pouted, which Robin found absolutely adorable, "I felt so bad I healed him myself with what little training I had."
"I'm sure the mumblings around camp didn't help that," Robin smirked as their son crawled from his grasp and started lunging at his big sis.
"No. No, they did not."
"Still, it got us talking more. I think it was worth it," Robin leaned in closer, "And you are adorable when you pout."
"Mmm, so cruel," Lucina leaned in as well, "You should make it up to your poor wife."
"Gladly."
"Eww! Mommy and Daddy are being mushy!" Morgan made gagging sounds while covering her brother's eyes. Notably, she did not look away.
"That's right," Robin grabbed the now squealing girl, "And you had better get used to it."
"Ack! Retreat!" Morgan ran out with brother in tow leaving two smiling parents in their wake.
"Guess we'd better get up," Lucina reluctantly admitted, "I was thinking about making breakfast instead of getting something from the kitchen."
"Sounds lovely," Robin gave her a quick peck on the lips, "And just so we're clear, I wasn't mad at you for hitting me. I'm just lucky you pulled your swing."
"Yes, well, I wouldn't want to mess up that handsome face of yours."
"I'm glad, and I learned a valuable lesson about sneaking up on you."
"Mmm, indeed. Though you find other ways to surprise me, Master Tactician."
"In good ways I hope."
"Usually," She smiled.
"Mommy! I'm hungry!"
Robin and Lucina chuckled before Lucina responded, "Coming, Dear!"
Robin shook his head as he pushed himself out of bed and followed his beloved wife. This was home, and he loved it.
A/N: I did start cross posting a bit. I'll keep going for the two I have on there for now. May reevaluate it later.
