Days after Finn and Phoebe had their argument, Finn went to the Ice Kingdom to see his girlfriend. Betty greeted Finn at the castle door.
"Hello Finn." Said Betty.
"Hey Betty, is Phoebe around?" Said Finn.
"No she went off to explore Ooo and see if she could get any leads on where Crimson is." Said Betty.
Finn was slightly sanded by this news and he asked if Simon was around. Betty told Finn, that Simon was in his lab and she lead him down some stairs to it. They entered a large circular chamber filled with bookshelves, old medieval weapons, and lab equipment. Finn stared at the room in awe, before he spotted Simon working at a table with some chemicals and beakers. Simon looked up from his work and waved at Finn. Betty left and Finn went over to Simon.
"Hello Finn." Greeted Simon as he mixed a blue and green liquid together in a cup.
"Hey Simon, what you working on?" Said Finn.
"Oh just a little something to remove a little dark magic." Said Simon as he put the cup down. "So what brings you here Finn?"
"I came to see Phoebe." Said Finn.
"I see. I heard about the argument, you had." Said Simon.
"Yeah...I wanted to try and patch things up with her. I want to hunt down Crimson as much as everyone else, but I have no idea where he is. I want Phoebe to be happy and to no longer have to worry about Crimson trying to hurt her or kill her. What...Crimson did to her was wrong...and I just want us to both be happy and together." Said Finn as he looked at the ground.
Simon put a comforting hand on Finn's shoulder.
"Don't worry Finn, will find Crimson one day and don't worry about this argument you had with Phoebe. You two still having feelings for one another and I have faith that you'll get back together. It'll take more then one little argument to keep you from getting back with each other."
"You really...think so?" Asked Finn as he looked up at Simon.
"I do. Finn, every couple since the beginning of time has had their ups and downs. Even people who get married argue with each other. Betty and me have had our fair share of arguments over the years, but if two people are truly in love they'll stay with each other and sometimes it actually makes their love for each other stronger." Said Simon.
"Whoa! That's pretty mathematical." Said Finn as he starred at Simon.
Simon just nodded and examined the liquid he had mixed together. Finn watched for a little bit.
"So you said that stuff is supposed to remove some kind of dark magic. What's it for exactly?" Said Finn.
"It's for Phoebe. I wish for her to see her mother." Said Simon.
"Wait what?" Said Finn looking confused.
Simon then began to explain, his past with the Fire Kingdom and how he ended up raising Phoebe. The story ended with Simon telling Finn that dark magic was preventing Flame Queen from visiting, her daughter's dreams. Finn was amazed by the story.
"You really are a good guy Simon." Said Finn.
"Thank you, Finn." Said Simon.
After hanging with Simon for an hour, Finn left the lab and decided to go hang with Betty. He found her in the living room reading a medical book. Finn went over to Betty, there was something he wanted to talk to her about and maybe Betty could help him.
"What's up?" Asked Betty as she looked up at Finn.
"Hey Betty, have you ever dealt with anybody with strange fears?" Asked Finn.
"I've dealt with a couple of patients with unusual fears. Do you have a unusual fear Finn?" Said Betty.
"I'm...afraid of the ocean and...I have no idea why." Said Finn.
Finn then told Betty the time he and Jake encountered the ocean and Finn freaked out. Then he told Betty about, how Jake tried to help Finn overcome his fear and failed. Betty stared at the young hero, who seemed ashamed of admitting his fear.
"Finn there is nothing wrong with admitted your afraid of the ocean. Everybody fears something."
"But...I failed to conquer my fear." Said Finn.
"You can't expect to conquer fear on your first try Finn. Fear is something you have to get over one step at a time. Just throwing yourself into it at once is dangerous." Said Betty.
"I...guess your right. I just want to know why I have this fear." Said Finn.
"Well there must have experienced some kind of trauma with the ocean as a baby. That would explain why you fear the ocean now." Said Betty.
"That...makes sense I guess." Said Finn.
"I could put you under hypnosis and maybe we can find the memory where you experienced this trauma." Said Betty.
"I'll give it a shot." Said Finn.
Betty went over to a nearby shelf and grabbed a watch and chain. She told Finn to take a seat as she swayed the watch from side to side in front of his face.
"Alright Finn, I want you to close your eyes and try to find the memory, where you first experienced your trauma with the ocean." Said Betty.
Finn closed his eyes and went deep within in his mind. After a few minutes he found something.
"Ok...I found something. It's...me as a baby and...I'm on some kind of boat. I'm in a basket wearing a diaper and my hat and...the boat seems to be...in a storm and everything is shacking!" Said Finn.
"What else do you see?" Asked Betty.
"I...think I hear people, but I can't make them out or hear what they're saying. Now...I see something big rising up out of the ocean...I can't make out what it is, but it seems angry and..it looks like it's controlling the storm!" Said Finn as his voice began to sound panicked.
"It's just a memory Finn. Now what else do you see?" Said Betty.
"I...see of flash of light appear in front of the thing controlling the storm. It looks like, there's some kind of person in the light talking to the giant, but I can't hear what they're saying. The storm stops and the giant goes under the water and vanishes. The light comes onto the ship and...now it's walking over to me and picks me up in gentle arms. It's saying something...to me." Said Finn.
"What is it saying?" Asked Betty.
"Don't...worry...my little cub, mommy is here...for you." Said Finn as his eyes flew opened and broke out of the trance.
"I think we made a really big breakthrough today." Said Betty.
"I...had a mother...and she loved me, but I still have so many questions." Said Finn.
"You'll find the answers you seek one day Finn." Said Betty as she put a hand on Finn's shoulder.
Finn suddenly threw his arms around Betty and embraced her. Betty was surprised by this, but soon returned the embrace. After a few seconds they stopped. Finn stood up.
"Thank you." He said.
"Your welcome Finn, and don't you worry about Phoebe, you'll get back together." Said Betty.
This brought a smile to Finn's face. The young hero went out the door and began to walk home as he thought about the person, who was his mother and getting back together with the girl he loved.
To be continued.
