Chapter 51: Amounting Frustrations
Disclaimer:
Hi guys. I would just like to address a bit of spoilers that may be happening in the Review section. Perhaps it was my fault for mentioning it a few chapters ago, but I think we should refrain from talking about current manga content (Past Chapter 27-/Devil-Binding Ritual) since there could be anime-only readers here. With that said, I hope you enjoy this chapter.
Another group explored the Forgotten Forest's temple. The Temple of Valchronos was being searched by the Golden Dawn and each group of mages were partnered with a Druid that were tasked with keeping an eye on them, as well as helping them through.
This particular group consisted of Lucas, Yuno, and Dike. They had been walking for a long time and something felt off for the Dual mage.
"Why is Yuno so quiet? He wanted to partner up with me and didn't want Mimosa involved so I thought he wanted to speak to me about something, but…", Lucas thought to himself. He was walking in front of the Wind mage and would quickly look back to check on him.
Another person who was slightly weirded out by the lack of talk between the two was the Druid who was with them. He was the one in front of Lucas and would also look back and wonder.
"Hm, these humans are… a bit boring, I cannot lie. Perhaps Valmoira was right in saying they are way too odd?" Dike shook his head and carried on walking.
There was a very awkward silence and the only sound that filled the area was of three pairs of footsteps that walked over the dusty and slightly-crumbled stone floor.
"Psst. Psst!"
A quiet, yet very familiar voice for Yuno tried to get his attention.
"PSST!"
Yuno shook his head and sighed. He was at the back, behind Lucas and diverted his attention to the Wind Spirit who was floating in front of him, pouting, and her hands forming into fists.
"Bell, when you try to get my attention by saying 'psst', it should be quiet and not as loud as possible. You defeat the very intention of 'psst', you know that, right?" He rolled his golden-yellow eyes which frustrated the Sylph even more.
"Well, EXCUSE ME!" She replied, emphasising the second part of what she said to purposely be loud. "What is it with you and your silence? You're being quieter and broodier than usual…", she asked, questioning, and with a softer tone.
"It's really none of your business", Yuno responded plainly.
Bell floated closer to her host's face and pinched his cheek. "Not this stupidity again. How many times do I have to tell you that we need each other to keep on growing? What you go through is something that should be shared with me, and vice versa. Though… it's not like I ever have any problems since I'm so perfect!" She quickly flew away from Yuno and posed by winking and sticking her tongue out.
The tall Wind mage remained indifferent.
Bell stopped her antics and sat on Yuno's shoulder. "Even my actions can't get a reaction from you this time. This must be serious…", she dropped her head and wore a saddened expression.
A few seconds went by and Yuno gave in. He realised how uncooperative he was being and explained his frustrations to the Wind Spirit. However, this time they spoke internally through their link.
"Fine… think to earlier when we made our way into the Forgotten Forest and David spoke about the reasoning as to why no one wanted to talk about Lucas's dual mana signatures…", Yuno began.
"Hm, I think I remember. What about it?" Bell responded, wondering where this was going.
"It's just – and I didn't show it – but it really frustrated me when David said that". Yuno furrowed his brow as he kept on walking.
"What? I didn't think you were the jealous type, Yuno. Is that how you really feel about Lucas?" The little fairy corrected her posture from her slouch as she felt this conversation taking a serious turn.
Yuno looked in front of him and stared at the Light and Time mage. "It's not like that. Lucas is a great friend and an important rival. It's just… I've spent so many years working towards my goal to become the Wizard King and even I'll admit it included me chasing after Asta. He was always two steps ahead of me, despite not using any magic, and I had finally gotten to a place where I could compete evenly. Then Lucas arrived and I kept the same mentality, but after this revelation, it makes me think that I'm never going to get to the goal I've set myself and I just wish… just wish…".
"… you wish that you had something else to put the edge over him?" Bell nodded. She spoke in a questioning tone but knew her host enough to see that there were a few issues when it came to power and strength for him.
"No, since that wouldn't be fair on Lucas. I just wish I wasn't so… frustrated by it. I'm surrounded by two of the biggest anomalies and it makes me think… why am I not different like that? Maybe it doesn't make sense to think like that, but that's where my mind went after I thought about it". Yuno said to Bell, who was shaking her head ever so slightly.
Bell got on to her knees and stood up on Yuno's right shoulder. She floated down to the level of the four-leaf grimoire and replied to her host. "I agree with you on a lot of things and sometimes I even get mad for you when I know you're in the right. This time… I can't agree with what you're saying at all. You said it yourself, you have two of the world's biggest anomalies right with you and you STILL speak as if you're the one who's suffering? One of the things that I respected about you was your never-giving-up attitude and now… I didn't think you were so…", Bell shook her head once more in a rather violent manner. "I suggest you speak with Lucas there about what's bothering you and figure out for yourself where you're in the wrong. I'll be in the grimoire for the time being", she said as she started to disappear into the rare spellbook.
Yuno paused for a moment and looked at the disappearing Bell with a drop of sweat. "I've never seen her like that… I understand I'm not acting like my usual self but…".
"Yuno?"
The Wind mage's eyes grew slightly as he realised who was speaking. It was Lucas who had walked back a bit to join up with Yuno. His train of thought had been interrupted by him saying his name and the two just stared at each other for a few seconds which became slightly uncomfortable.
"What's wrong? I feel like you've just been staring at me for a while now and was wondering if you wanted to talk about anything?" Lucas asked, tilting his head.
Yuno was still surprised by the sudden conversation he was now in but played it off calmly. "I'm fine, thanks. By the way, we've been walking for a long time now. Dike, was it?" Yuno looked forwards and saw the Druid leaning against the wall and looking in their direction.
"Yeah, that is me. What is it?" Dike responded in a snappy fashion.
"Where exactly are we headed? We know we're either trying to find the Druid soldiers or the Magic Stone, but all there is here are long hallways", Yuno said, rather rudely.
Dike didn't like the tone Yuno had and replied in the same manner that he was being spoken to. "Well, if you would stop talking with your little fairy or with your squadmate, we would be making more progress".
A little strain appeared on the side of Yuno's head, showing that the direction this interaction was going was not a good one. He sped up and walked up to Dike and got up into his face.
Lucas was taken aback at this behaviour from his friend. "This… isn't like him at all. I wonder what has him all riled up? Usually, he'd ignore little jabs and snarky comments, but all I can sense from him is… frustration".
The Wind mage started to talk down to the Druid. One reason was because he was taller than him, but another was because he was trying to speed things up and Dike was being uncooperative, at least to him.
"I thought you were the one who was going to lead us through. It shouldn't be your problem about how slow we are, but perhaps it's a problem with your directional skills", he argued.
Lucas pulled on the mage's squad robe, trying to keep him away from the argument. "Y-Yuno… We're already on bad terms with the Druids, we should keep it calm", he whispered. However, Yuno stood still.
"You should really be listening to your rather smart squadmate. You really do not want to mess with me. My magic is quite powerful, human boy, Dike responded. He was still quite calm and it was because that, in his mind, he knew he was much stronger than the person he was arguing with.
"I could say the same to you, Dike". At this point things were getting out of hand and Lucas had to interject.
"Light Creation Magic: Energy Whips!" Lucas wrapped his Light Magic constructs around Yuno and pulled him back. As he did, he walked in front of him and bowed to Dike and apologised profusely.
The magic around Yuno disappeared and he managed to calm down. He, himself, realised this was way too much for him and quietened down. He did all that to avoid talking about the situation with Lucas and ended up in this odd situation.
Dike accepted the apology and walked on. Lucas followed behind but still maintained an uneasy feeling when he thought about Yuno.
"It doesn't make sense why I feel this frustrated… but I can't help it", Yuno thought as he walked on.
A few more minutes went by and the hallway started to change slightly, prompting a shocked look from Lucas and a confused one from Yuno. The broken, grey, and dirty stone bricks that formed the hallway had now changed to yellow marble. They had black and gold patterns embroidered within them and apart from that there were other, more eye-catching things that interested the three mages.
"Um, Dike, these inscriptions on the wall…", Lucas began. He was turning his head all over the place as there was writing on one wall, and pictures or paintings on the other.
"You cannot read them, right? I would translate for you but this is a language that has been long forgotten", the Druid said. However, what came next intrigued him.
"N-no, that's not it. I can read bits of what's been written for some reason. This has only happened one other time", Lucas explained.
He thought back to his first dungeon exploration with Alecdora and Letoile and remembered that there were inscriptions that he, for some reason, could read. Although he couldn't translate them fully, they were still enough to form broken sentences.
"Here resides many treasures and … that once belonged to our … the high-beings…
The ones who … the Elves were …
The only treasures that … exempt … reside elsewhere are … Mikaela … the former high-ranked …
Follow ahead … more"
The Dual mage remembered those exact letterings and repeated them to Dike who had his mouth agape. This was completely stunning for him and he was out of character for a while as the ginger-haired mage explained.
Dike nodded and scratched his chin as the information that Lucas gave him swirled around in his brain for a few minutes. Eventually, he responded, giving his own input into what this all meant.
"As for you being able to read those words… I have no idea what that means. Perhaps it has something to do with your family history?" Dike explained.
"Well, that's not the best thing to hear", Lucas chuckled slightly. "I'm an orphan so my family history is essentially gone".
"Well, that is unfortunate. Though, maybe your answer lies within your magic", Dike pointed his finger up. "Mana and magic is intrinsic to oneself and, although it is rare, a person's magic can be based around their spirit, personality, or experiences. However, other times, and perhaps it is more common now, it is simply there with no meaning behind it. Maybe your Light Magic or Time Magic holds the key to your family history?"
Instead of only Lucas feeling engrossed, Yuno was too. Both of their family histories were shrouded in uncertainty and perhaps their magic linked to it.
"Light and Time… is there a link to my family through that?" Lucas thought.
"Wind Magic… it is a common type of magic but maybe…?" Yuno contemplated.
The Druid continued with what he was saying and the two Golden Dawn members listened eagerly.
"You mentioned 'high-beings', 'Elves', and 'Mikaela'. By 'high-beings' and 'Elves', it could mean the ones that the Elves used to serve when they were alive. There has been many accounts, stories, and reports that the Elven race served beings that were similar to them yet were still entirely different. I… do not know the official names of these 'high-beings' but they probably had the Elves as slaves", Dike mentioned.
This flow of information completely shocked the two mages. They had just discovered an entire race who were hidden for so long, that being the Druids. Now, there's mention of two other races where one was the master to the other.
"H-hold on… so Elves are – or were – real? And another, probably more powerful, race was above them?" Lucas was gobsmacked at this. He was a fan of stories and fairy tales but hearing that these could actually be real was an entirely different experience.
Dike was growing impatient by how long Lucas and Yuno took to understand what he was saying. However, he continued with the final piece of information.
"As for 'Mikaela'… we, as the race of Druids, have been told to never repeat her name in any way, shape, or form. I will explain this only once, but Mikaela was the devil incarnate, or so it has been told. She was a being of immense power and had fallen from her grace after corrupting many others. I do not know why we refuse to speak of her and what her connection is to us, but I will uphold our teachings". Dike turned around and moved forwards as he was done with his explanations. However, it could also be because he didn't want to dwell on the topic of Mikaela any longer than he needed to.
The name 'Mikaela' meant absolutely nothing to either of Lucas or Yuno and they kept the information about her in the back of their heads. Though, Lucas wanted to know more but knew they had already been distracted enough.
The three headed deeper into the hallway and they still took in what was on the walls. A lot of what they saw were the same images that Mimosa's group had seen but what was different was that Lucas could read some of the wording.
"Valchronos"
"Traitor"
"Seductress"
"Destruction"
Um, Lucas. Are you sure those words say what you're saying?" Yuno spoke up. He had calmed down slightly, yet still felt odd speaking to Lucas considering what he was frustrated with. However, it made no sense to avoid talk altogether.
"I believe so. This Valchronos is obviously who the temple is named after and the images show him as this… thing with broken, blue wings. He also seemed to have four, black horns", Lucas pointed out.
"A Devil?" Yuno added. "That's the most accurate description of a Devil, at least coming from stories and fables".
"Could be. Now that we know Elves and other races exist, there's probably a history of Devils too". The Dual mage turned his head to the other words. "But what about things like 'traitor', 'seductress', and 'destruction'?"
"What if Valchronos betrayed the Druids who worshipped him? I'm not sure about 'seductress' but 'destruction' could mean that something terrible happened to them all". Yuno seemed like he was just as interested as Lucas.
Dike slowed down and Lucas managed to bump into him as he didn't look where he was going. The ginger-haired teen rubbed his head and apologised.
"Aha, sorry about that, Dike", he slowly got up from the floor.
"No matter. I suggest you stop speaking about Valchronos like that as the limited knowledge you do have by reading these writings, does not mean you have the full context. Also… you need to be focused, considering where we are". Dike turned his head and Lucas and Yuno followed his gaze.
The three mages arrived in a large, open room. Much like Mimosa's group and David's group, this area had a seemingly empty presence at first, but Dike was wary, as well as Lucas and Yuno.
"An open area like this… with nothing here but us…", Lucas spoke quietly. He had one hand on the top of his grimoire satchel and the other held on to the wall behind him. "This is too quiet…".
"The way all of us entered these separate areas… it makes sense that something, or someone, could be waiting for us at the end. Is this the end? Is the Magic Stone, or are the Druid Soldiers, around here? Yuno backed up, clutching his four-leaf grimoire.
Dike walked forwards a few steps and stopped. "You two. What do you see?"
Lucas focused on what Dike was looking at. There was one, large bump in the ground that seemed to be chunks of hard rock all lumped together in a separate space to the rest of the floor.
Around the room, there was a very faint, black and green, outline in a ring. This outline had mould, moss, and also crumbled the wall where it was.
"Water? This room used to be filled with water long ago and that's why there's an outline around the room where the water sat", Yuno added.
"Correct. Now, if my guess is accurate, the water could be from this bump. Perhaps it is a defence mechanism of some kind so we need to tread carefully. There is a passageway on the opposite side of the room". Dike ushered the two to move slowly and they tiptoed through.
However, one crucial detail the group failed to take note of was that there was one more large bump in the floor that they didn't realise. This bump was much bigger than the other one and the reason why they didn't notice it was there was because it almost took the size of the entire room's floor.
As the group took another step, the vibrations from their footing made the entire place rumble with a loud sound. It was like there was a mini earthquake occurring and after a mere second, the floor started to move.
The main source of the noise was underneath the three people's feet and slowly, the bump in the floor started to rise. It elevated itself and Lucas, Yuno, and Dike realised just what it was.
"That thing… why does it have a face?!" Lucas shouted, not keeping the calm and quiet demeanour he had to him prior.
"It must be some type of guardian for this area… If there is a guardian, then there is something worth guarding", Dike commented.
This rock-like guardian had a bulky shape to it where the head and torso were very large, but its legs and feet were smaller in comparison. Its mouth was very big with teeth that looked jagged and broken. Its eyes were a bright, blue colour that seemed to shine as it awoke from its slumber. The Guardian's limbs were covered with sharp, green, and mouldy stones and moss. However, there was one aspect of this thing that drew most of their attention.
"Is that water swirling around the inside of its body?" Yuno pointed out.
There was a large, glass orb in the middle of its body and around the torso area and within it was the blue water.
As the Guardian rose up, the two bump that was on the floor was actually part of the larger one's body and it separated. It was a much smaller version of the big Guardian and it was without the glass orb. A few seconds went by and there were two enemies in front of the three mages with the main one at the back and the smaller one in front of it.
They then started to speak in an unrecognisable language for Dike and Yuno. The robotic voices were in sync and as they spoke their eyes locked onto the humans and the Druid.
Fortunately, Lucas understood what they said and repeated it for the other two.
"Intruder"
"That's what they said", Lucas translated.
Dike stood forwards and slowly took his grimoire out. He turned around to Lucas and Yuno and spoke. "I will take care of th-", he began to talk but he realised that the two Magic Knights weren't behind him anymore. Instead, they were in front of him, side-by-side.
Lucas and Yuno stood together and focused on the golem in front.
"How are we doing this, Yuno?" Lucas asked, slightly looking to his right to see Yuno in his peripheral vision.
"Quickly. I know you haven't had much practice with your Time Magic, but surely you can do this", Yuno replied. Lucas was in his peripheral vision too as he looked to his left.
Lucas smiled and then his grimoire started to float next to him. Yuno's spell book came out too and the pair got ready.
"Bell is gone for now and she doesn't seem like she'll be coming out any time soon. I can still feel her power, it's just… maybe after this fight I'll speak with Lucas and sort out my frustrations". Yuno took a step forwards and his squadmate followed.
"Light Magic: Orbs of Blinding!" Lucas generated five orbs of pure light in front of him and sent them forwards. They span around the smaller enemy at high speeds and there was also a slight, blue tint surrounding them.
"Is that his Time Magic speeding up his Light Magic?" Dike thought. He had taken a step back and let the two humans showcase their skills.
"Nice move, Lucas. Don't mind if I combine my magic with yours! Wind Magic: Whirlwind Gusts!" Yuno summoned sharp amounts of white wind from his grimoire and they swirled around the entire room at a higher speed than which Lucas was using with his Orbs of Binding spell.
Yuno's spell sped up Lucas's spell and together they swirled around their opponent, blinding them in the process and also chipping away at its rock body.
"Now, it's time for… them to blast away!" Lucas shouted. As he did, his five orbs started to vibrate as they rotated around the little guardian. One second later, they exploded violently with the light penetrating through to the other side of the room as well as towards the three mages. They even had to dodge the Light Magic attacks since the power of the blasts were very uncontrolled. "S-sorry about that! I'm not the best with control!"
The destructive blasts created a large dust cloud around the two enemies and for a moment, Lucas and the others believed they had destroyed the first guardian they targeted.
"Wind Magic: Tornado Fang and Wind Creation Magic: Wind Blade Shower!" Yuno used his simultaneous spell activation quickly to make sure the enemy was down and out.
"The brat here can use two spells at the same time? For what the humans class as a 'peasant', he sure does have insane capabilities", Dike internally praised.
Yuno extended his arms forward and the two spells circled around each other, creating an insane amount of powerful winds that were even chipping away at the surroundings. The two, sharp spells were heard clashing against the rock being and the mages were sure they had beaten it.
As the dust settled and Yuno's spell activation went away, what they saw was something that was surprising for them.
"Not even a scratch?" Lucas muttered, pounding his right fist into the palm of his left hand.
"Guess it wouldn't be that easy", Yuno replied with a shake of his head.
As if it was a turn-based game, the small guardian, made its move. Slowly, it lifted its arms into the air and then slammed down with great force. All the while this happened, the main Guardian behind did nothing but watch.
"Quickly, dodge it!" Dike shouted from above the two mages.
Lucas looked behind him as he had literally sensed his presence there a second ago, and now he was almost 50ft into the air without so much as a rustle of his hair. However, without pondering over how quick Dike was, the two mages followed suit and jumped as high as they could.
Yuno used his wind to give a platform to himself and Lucas, whereas Dike seemed to be standing on a long branch that came out of nowhere. It extended from one side of the room to the other and he was balancing on it whilst analysing the enemies.
"What is this guy's magic? He summoned that out of thin air so maybe something transportation-based?" Yuno thought for a second. He couldn't think for any longer as the effect of the right golem almost hit the two Magic Knights.
When the golem slammed down onto the floor, the parts where its fists met shot up into the air and it created sharp, rock columns between the enemies and the group of three. Looking at the floor, some of it had also given way and there was a dark abyss at the bottom where you would not want to fall through.
"This has gotten a bit out of hand", Dike said quietly. "You two, keep your focus on the one here whilst I go for the main one at the back. There is no time to pick them off at separate times, so let us fight together!"
"Yes, Sir!" Lucas shouted. Then, he realised what he did. "Damn it! He sounded so much like a leader there and I went with the flow!"
Yuno shook his head at Lucas, then nodding at Dike to show he was okay with the plan.
Dike jumped forwards and easily traversed what was now an obstacle course of sorts. He jumped from column to column, easily evaded the drops, and manoeuvred the sharp turns with no problems at all.
"Stop gawking at him and focus, Lucas!" Yuno shouted with no hesitation. Perhaps it was the inner frustrations coming out, but it was mainly to do with the incoming attack from the smaller golem.
Lucas managed to just evade the barrage of rocks that were hurled at him and he landed back on the wind construct. Yuno had already dodged and landed slightly above the Dual mage.
"Light Magic didn't work earlier, so I'll switch to Time! Yuno, let's give it a go!" Lucas pumped his fist at him and gave a determined smile.
The Wind mage didn't return the smile but he definitely agreed with the course of action. "Do it!" He flew forwards and started to generate some wind from the palms of his hands.
"Time Magic: Alter Accel!" Lucas stuck out his right palm towards where Yuno was flying towards. His arm started to shake and a blue sphere formed around his wrist. As this happened, a larger, blue sphere formed around the travelling Yuno.
"We only practiced a bit with this but he seems to be okay with it…", Yuno thought back briefly.
FLASHBACK – ONE WEEK AGO:
After William Vangeance revealed to the squad that they would be heading to the Forgotten Forest in a few days, Lucas and Yuno were training beforehand. The pair wanted to get ready in the best way they knew how.
Lucas was practicing with his Time Magic. He could do it openly now since the secret was revealed, whereas Yuno was next to him in thought. He was not speaking with Bell and instead his thoughts were just to himself.
"I kind of wish he had told me about his Time Magic before. I understand why he didn't, but… the things that Asta went through because he has no magic, Lucas went through as well. I couldn't help Asta then, and I didn't know Lucas anyway… Maybe we are just way too different. I can't relate with Asta, and so I can't understand what it feels like… I can't relate to Lucas either so I guess I'm on my ow-!"
"Yuno!"
The Wind mage's train of thought was broken by the very person he was thinking about.
"Yeah, what is it?" Yuno replied. His calm exterior immediately formed which gave no hint of what he was feeling underneath.
"I've been calling your name for about 10 seconds now!" Lucas shouted from opposite him. He quickly ran to Yuno and got into a conversation.
Yuno internally sighed. He couldn't be in his head like that or people would wonder. "Sorry about that. Did you need something, Lucas?"
"You bet! I was wondering, since you all know about my Time Magic… if you wanted to practice some combination plays and techniques together". Lucas started to waffle on as he was quite excited of the idea.
The mage from Hage sweat-dropped. "Um, I don't usually work well in duos…", he started to back away.
However, Lucas persisted. "There's always a first time for everything! Look, if we can't think of anything by the end of these few days before we head out, then forget about the idea. But if we do manage to make something work, then it's a win-win".
Yuno thought for a few seconds. "Combo techniques with Wind Magic and Time Magic could be something interesting… it'll get me distracted from my mess of a mind right now and we could get stronger…".
"So? How about it?" Lucas asked.
Yuno nodded his head. "Sure, but let's get started right away".
FLASHBACK – END
"Lucas's first step… he formed the sphere. Now, it's my turn". Yuno looked at the golem who had their attention.
"Wind Creation Magic: Swift White Hawk!" Yuno summoned the wind-hawk that was one of his most-used spells. With a loud cry, the hawk flapped its wings which sent currents of wind forwards. Yuno enlarged the hawk five-fold and now it was the same size as the smaller guardian golem.
This was when Lucas's spell fully activated. The blue sphere around Yuno also transferred to the hawk in front of him, giving it a slight blue tint.
"Do it how we practiced!" Yuno shouted back at the Dual mage.
"Y-yeah!" Lucas shouted back. He struggled a bit but he had the strength to see this through. His right palm shook even more and the muscles in his arm became very stiff.
The Swift White Hawk started flying forwards and was about to hit the golem, but, instead, it gained a lot more speed as it crashed into the enemy. At first, the golem wasn't scratched at all, but Yuno commanded his hawk to keep attacking.
As it did, Lucas's Time Magic effect made it go faster and faster. With more speed, came more power, and more destructive capabilities. The hawk was zooming past the golem at breakneck speeds and it went from the front to the back, right to left, and then from one diagonal to the other. Every single direction there was, the hawk managed to find it and fly through.
With the hawk's max speed constantly being one-upped by none other than itself, the golem started to find cracks in its body. Eventually, it fell on both knees since its legs had basically been destroyed by the speed of the hawk.
"Good job, Lucas!" Yuno shouted back. He looked at Lucas and pointed his thumb up.
Even though he felt these frustrations, he was still friends with the Light and Time mage and knew they were a formidable duo.
Lucas returned the thumbs up and quickly shook away the numbness he felt in his right arm.
The golem was no immobile, but it managed to form very sharp rocks around the rest of its remaining body which quite easily penetrated through Yuno's hawk. For all of its speed it had, it was still made out of wind which was easily dispersed by the rocks.
"Don't let up now, Yuno! Let's go for our other combo!" Lucas shouted as he jumped forwards and out of the wind construct that Yuno made for him.
"You really are headstrong… fine, I'm up for it!" Yuno agreed.
"Light Creation Magic: Energy Whips!" Lucas used his left hand to form the powerful light whip that he used to surround the entirety of the left golem. It was about to crush the golem's body when it began to move and thrash about violently, throwing off Lucas's aim.
However, he wasn't relying on his aim for this. Instead, he was relying on Yuno for the second part of this combination.
"Wind Creation Magic: Wind Blades Shower!" Yuno summoned the sharp wind blades and fired them at the light whip itself.
They dug into the whip and subsequently dug into the golem. The combined power of both spells allowed them to penetrate the enemy's body and this was done as Lucas had no control over the accuracy of his spell at that point.
"Yes!" Lucas shouted. He was about to fall from the momentum but thankfully Yuno had him covered as he constructed a wind platform for him.
Lucas's whip was now firmly ingrained into the golem and he didn't have to worry about the accuracy. Now, it was just the matter of fully destroying the enemy and Lucas was ready.
"Light Magic: Angelic Strike!" Instead of the usual where Lucas would strike the enemy with his left palm, he combined his left palm with the end of his light whip, transferring the effect of one spell to the other.
The light whip began to burn with the effect of Angelic Strike and the golem started to shatter and break completely. After a minute or two, the golem was in pieces and destroyed a few of the rock columns that it had formed as the remaining bits of it fell into the abyss below.
Lucas and Yuno flew towards each other and smiled. Lucas smiled a bit more since it was his idea to create these combination plays, but Yuno was grateful regardless.
"I wonder how Dike's doing", Lucas mentioned.
"He should be alright. His mana was insane so a larger guardian shouldn't be a problem", Yuno responded.
Meanwhile, as Lucas and Yuno were dealing with the smaller golem, Dike was preparing to face the main Guardian. He was on the other side of the large room, behind a row of large, rock columns and spikes. The Druid was analysing what he could do.
"Those two humans are capable enough for the smaller one. Let us see how you fare against my magic". Dike propelled himself forwards as he jumped from one of the columns towards the large enemy.
"Nature-Force Magic…".
NOTES:
We finally have Lucas and Yuno, along with Dike. Let's see how their battles end up in the coming chapters but so far, so good!
Frustrations and a bit of annoyances for Yuno. Some of you may be confused as to why he's feeling like this but it'll be explained. I like writing with his character a lot since I feel like there's a lot I can do with him.
Also, for the Guardian/smaller golems, you should picture 'Gravattack' from Ben 10: Omniverse. They are pretty similar design-wise, and that is the extent of their similarities!
Now, a bit of history and context was revealed too by Dike. What do you guys think?
