Chapter 62: Cyrus's First Mission (Part 1)
During the time that the Golden Dawn were away at the Forgotten Forest, the everyday lives of the other Magic Knight squads were still going on as normal. One such squad were the Aqua Deer.
The sun shone over their base and lit up the area brightly. Each window was shining with the reflection of the hot sun's rays.
"Brenda… close the curtains for me, please…!" A tired Cyrus called out from his bed. The 16-year-old tossed and turned in his sleep before more of the sun started shining down on his face from the open slit in his curtains.
"Ah, why is the window open…? Brenda!" He raised his voice since no one replied before. However, once he said his maid's name the second time, he realised just where he was.
The Alchemical Wizard rubbed his puffy, light-green eyes as they adjusted to his surroundings. "Oh, that's right. I'm living at my squad's base again".
After Cyrus treated Lucas after the incident in Nean, the Alchemy mage had wondered and mulled over some things when it came to him and his career. He realised that to become better in his research and as a Magic Knight, he needed some real-life experience rather than being shut away in his large, but empty, family home.
Cyrus yawned once more before getting off his bed. He tucked his white pillow away and made his light-blue bed sheets before putting on his slippers that were set on the fluffy, white rug on the hard, polished wooden floor. Then, he headed to the main showers to get freshened up for the day.
After brushing his teeth and showering, he returned to his room to get ready. He went to his bed and opened the curtains behind the bedframe to let in all of the light from outside. Cyrus looked in the cream-coloured cupboard that was on the side of the room and took out his clothes and putting them on
"With Brenda, she'd be babying me and nagging me to get ready on time, but since I'm here I should try to be responsible", he said as he brushed his dirty-blonde hair.
After putting on his greenish-yellow collared shirt and tucking it into his khaki pants, he put on his squad robe which was a light-blue and fluffy piece of clothing that wrapped all the way behind his neck and went down towards his upper back since it was quite long. A gold zipper seperated both ends and Cyrus let it rest near the middle of his neck.
"I should probably go to the cafeteria now. I don't have any friends here but I can't just loaf around for no reason. Besides, I'm quite hungry".
After a few minutes of walking down the hall, he found the door to the cafeteria and entered it. He went towards the food but saw that almost everything was finished. He looked at the large clock that was hanging in the middle of the brick wall to the side and sighed.
"I really did wake up later than normal!"
In this large, open room there were many round, empty tables with circular benches next to them. Due to the time being later than normal, the amount of people in the cafeteria was lower.
Slowly, he made his way to a table near the centre of the room and sat down with what little food he managed to find. As he ate, his not-so-good morning started to turn worse from what he heard around him.
"Isn't he that noble that was granted special permission to act on his own?"
"What a weirdo. He always acts high and mighty. Why is he back here when no one even knows him?"
"I can't believe the captain would treat him differently than us".
Munching on his breakfast, the side of Cyrus's head strained as a vein started to show. It was clear he was getting angry from the random whispers of people he didn't even know.
"You know what? I don't have to take this from them. After my food, I'm going to leave…", he declared in his face. He was chewing with his eyes closed which was mainly to not see the squad members making stupid comments, but it also meant he didn't see the person that walked up to him.
"Hello there, Cyrus", a woman's voice said as she placed her plate of food on the same table as him.
The mage quickly opened his eyes and saw a dark-blue, short-haired woman join him for breakfast. She wore the normal Aqua Deer uniform but with a long, fluffy, white skirt going down to her black shoes.
"H-hello, there", Cyrus replied sheepishly. It's not that he was nervous around her, but it was just because he was never expecting someone to speak to him, let along join him at the table.
"Do you mind if I join you?" The girl with the white, fluffy snow hat said with a smile. Her light-blue eyes looked towards the noble with a calm feeling.
"Sure", Cyrus replied. He looked towards her plate and saw that there was way more than what one person would usually have for their breakfast. Though, he didn't mention anything about it since he didn't really even care that much.
"I saw you glance over at my plate just then. Can a woman not have… a lot of food like this?" She said, giving off a little embarrassed look. She twirled her fingers around each other showing she was a bit nervous at first.
"N-no, that's fine by me. I was…", he tried to think of an excuse since he was being questioned. "… wondering where you found it since when I was up there, I could only find what I have here".
"Oh, is that right?" She said, leaning in. She sat her chin on the top of her hand as her elbow supported her on the surface of the table. "Well, being the highest rank in the Aqua Deer has its benefits", she said as she giggled.
Cyrus took a second to really look at who he was talking with. "The highest rank? I should probably know who she is then…", he tried to think.
"You really don't recognise me?" The woman sighed with a slight smile. "Oh well, I mean I wasn't that good back when you were here before you left. I'm Fragil Tormenta, a 3rd Class Intermediate Magic Knight", she said as she reached out her hand.
Cyrus returned the gesture, shaking her hand. After a few seconds of them eating in silence after this, Fragil revealed the real reason she joined him for breakfast in the first place.
"I'm sorry. I wanted to offer you some of my breakfast here. The real reason I got so much was because I saw how you struggled to find something good to eat. So, here you go", she said as she moved the rest of her food closer to the nobleman.
Cyrus protested. "You can't do that! You don't even know who I am. B-besides, what do you think people will say when you speak to someone who's apparently high and mighty like me", he replied with an awkward chuckle.
Fragil sat back on the bench, looking up into the air towards the hanging chandelier from the ceiling. "You're Cyrus Sharandale. The one they call 'The Alchemical Wizard', right? You left the squad because of your own personal reasons. Is that enough to tell you that I do, in fact, know who you are?"
"Well, you are resourceful", Cyrus replied. Now that he was taking an interest, he started to open up a bit. "I feel bad for not recognising who you were. I hope I can learn from you moving forward".
Fragil paused. "Wow, that was easy", she said in her head. "And about the thing about being high and mighty? Forget about what the others say. People only say things like that when they don't understand you", she added.
With a brightened smile after hearing that, Cyrus carried on eating afterwards.
The two then spoke amongst themselves. A lot of the other people in the room had already left way before these two finished, but when they did, they got a message from someone who at the other end of the room.
"Miss Fragil?" Another Aqua Deer called out from the door to the cafeteria. It was a younger girl and she was a bit nervous but when she found the blue-haired mage, she ran up to her.
"The Captain is requesting you to meet him in his office. Oh, and you too Cyrus", she said before leaving the room as quickly as she had entered it.
Cyrus wiped away the crumbs from his lips, standing up. "The Captain wants to see me? I wonder what for?"
"Perhaps a mission? He's always requesting me to view his artworks and to tell him what I think. I mean, I'm grateful he respects my opinion, but I'd like to go on a mission sometimes", Fragil said.
"Oh, the artworks. I remember how he was more interested in painting and drawing rather than working. Is it still like that?" Cyrus asked.
"It's a bit better now but by that I mean he doesn't spend all of his waking hours on them…", the snow hat-wearing mage replied.
The two left the cafeteria and went up a large flight of stairs before walking down a long hallway. There were glass panes on the side of it which Cyrus could see the rest of the base out of. There were a few fountains that were made out of marble, as well as a large courtyard where the other Magic Knights were practicing with their magic.
"Do you like the base, Cyrus?" Fragil asked.
"I do like it. I wish I spent more time here but after… well, anyway I feel like I missed out on a few things. I know I was gone for a year but still", he sighed as he spoke.
Eventually, the two Magic Knights reached the outside of their captain's office.
"You should probably go first, Fragil", Cyrus ushered to which the mage agreed upon.
"Probably for the best. Oh, and by the way, watch out", Fragil replied before going up to the door, leaving Cyrus in a little state of confusion.
She knocked on the door and then opened it a second later to see Rill Boismortier, the 19-year-old captain, sitting in front of a large, white canvas and sulking. He had a wet paintbrush in his hand but he still used it to hit the middle of his forehead in frustration.
"I still can't obtain my ultimate masterpiece…", he said as he started wailing.
"Ultimate Masterpiece? But what he painted here looks amazing!" Cyrus thought to himself as he gazed at the wonderful painting in front of him.
The canvas had the background of the Royal Capital in the distance but the forefront of the piece was the horse-drawn carriage that was riding up towards it. In the carriage were two people with one being the captain himself and the other being a servant of some sorts with how he dressed.
"Um", Fragil said to try and get the young captain's attention.
"Who is it?" He said, calming down.
"Fragil and Cyrus, Captain", the former introduced.
Rill jumped off his seat and turned around to face the Magic Knights that were in his room. However, as he turned, the paintbrush went with the turning momentum and the paint smacked straight into the wall that was behind the canvas, completing obliterating it.
"Oh no", Rill said as he realised what he just did.
There was now a huge opening in the wall that was opposite the door they just entered and right in front of Cyrus and Fragil. Actually, there was now a cool breeze entering from the gaping hall in the wall.
Cyrus and Fragil had different expressions to their faces. While the former had a look of complete and utter shock, Fragil's was just a defeated looks as if she expected something like this to happen.
"Captain, I've told you to be more careful with your paint… What if Walter was here to see that?" Fragil said with a stern voice.
"My bad…", Rill replied with a light and awkward chuckle. Then, he saw the 16-year-old mage next to Fragil and cheered up. "Oh hello, Cyrus! It has been so long since I last saw you!"
The Aqua Deer captain ran up to the mage with the dark-orange glasses, going in for a hug. There was a moment of silence as Rill embraced the mage. His glowing, aqua hair swayed from side-to-side as he enjoyed the hug.
"C-captain… I heard that you wanted to see me", Cyrus said as he got embarrassed.
"Oh, who cares about that?" Rill said, jumping back to behind his office desk. He sat down and ushered for the other two to sit down opposite him.
"What do you mean, Captain?" Fragil wondered. Surely there was a reason that Rill called up the two Magic Knights.
"I'm saying we can get to that in a minute. But first… I'm proud of you, Fragil!" Rill said with a toothy grin. "You were here last night asking me how you should become friends with Cyrus and now it looks like everything is fine. Let me tell you, I never saw her this worried before-".
"C-captain, now isn't the time to-", Fragil interrupted but her words fell onto deaf ears.
"- she was planning for this since the news of your return a week or so ago but she needed my help anyw-!" Rill continued before a scream snapped him back to his senses.
"CAPTAIN!" Fragil screamed as she stood up from her chair.
Rill started panicking in his seat as drops of sweat fell from his head. "Oh, no. I went on one of my tangents again…".
Cyrus sat on his chair in pure shock. One reason was because of how Fragil actively wanted to be his friend to the point where she planned stuff out to do so, and the other reason was because of Fragil again but because he didn't take her to be the person to react like this.
"Um…", is the only word Cyrus could make out before he saw Fragil's cheeks and ears redden up from the unease she was feeling.
"I'm truly sorry", Rill started to explain. "Due to me being the youngest ever Magic Knight Captain, people treat me differently but that's something Fragil doesn't do. In return… I get a bit too invested with what she's doing which gets me into trouble like this. She's older than me as well which makes me seem quite immature".
Cyrus sat straight from his chair as he got interested in the topic. "Huh, Fragil is older than you? I thought she was my age…".
"Yeah! She's-", Rill began to say before Fragil stopped the conversation.
"You can't just tell someone a woman's age just like that, Captain!" Fragil said with a quieter tone than before, yet still stern to the max.
Rill's face drooped down as he went quiet for the next few seconds.
Fragil turned to Cyrus and explained anyway. "To stop you from having so many questions, I'm 20-years-old… Now, Captain, can you please explain why you called us here?"
Rill gulped since he was shouted at twice in the span of a few seconds but he eventually got down to business. Standing up, he walked over to the gaping hole in the wall and looked out over the distance.
"There's been an information leak about the Magic Knights", he sighed. "In the border between the Common Realm and the Forsaken Realm, there is a place called Talon Village. We've received some unsettling news about rogue Magic Knights meeting in secret over there during the night. I've spoken to the Wizard King about this and there's a feeling that these rogues could attack the Royal Capital soon".
"An information leak? This sounds quite important. How many of us need to go?" Fragil asked.
Rill turned around and walked up to his desk once again. "It's a shame but just the two of you since we don't want to draw too much attention to ourselves".
Cyrus took out the notebook from his grimoire satchel and opened it, writing down what he was being told.
Fragil turned around to speak to the mage. "Hm, good thinking actually. We need all the information we can get for a mission like this".
Cyrus just nodded before putting his notebook away. "I was only writing since this is getting quite interesting but yeah, she's right in that this is probably more useful for the mission than my own indulgences".
Rill opened the top drawer on his desk, pulling out a piece of paper. He handed it to Fragil and pointed at a specific point. "This is a map of the area in and around Talon Village. Julius recommended that you set up base at this point".
After more information was given about the mission, the two were about to head out before Rill spoke up one last time.
"Cyrus! All of your magical research in the past year has helped us a lot, but since you're back here, do you think you'll be fine on the field?" The Captain of the Aqua Deer asked with a serious look to his face.
Cyrus raised his right arm and put it across his chest doing the three-leaf salute. "Yes, Sir!"
The two mages left the room and left Rill to do whatever he needed to do. The nobleman looked outside through the huge hole he created and gasped again.
"I really destroyed this entire wall…", he dropped his shoulders. After a few seconds, he looked up again and got an idea as he saw another plain, white canvas to the side of the room.
Rill walked up to it and shaped his fingers into a rectangular shape, two from each hand, and looked through it to see the outside.
"The clouds in the sky… the sun lighting them up from behind… and the open wall that takes the scenery in… my, my… this could be grounds for a masterpiece!"
Rill then got started on another one of his paintings. With his tongue sticking out as he was deep in thought, there was something nudging on the back of his mind.
"Did I forget to tell those two something important…? Hm, probably not".
Almost 30 minutes into travelling, Cyrus and Fragil spoke about the mission and what they could expect from it. Eventually though, as talk about Talon Village became exhausted, the two changed topic to something.
Cyrus was on his broomstick, looking towards Fragil on his left, whilst Fragil was keeping an eye up ahead.
"Was what the Captain said earlier true? You wanted to be my friend?" He asked with a serious tone.
Fragil cringed as she thought back to how Rill revealed her thought processes to the Alchemy mage. "Yeah, it's true… I really do want to be your friend".
Cyrus's eyes squinted as he was giving a questioning look. "I appreciate it but can I ask why? The only standout thing about me regarding the squad is that people think I abandoned it for a year".
Fragil thought for a few seconds before replying. "It's not so much about who you are or what you've done, but because I don't really have any friends. I thought that since you didn't really know me, it'd be the perfect opportunity to start a friendship".
The sun's rays hit Cyrus's face, lighting it up to show a more surprised look as opposed to the questioning one he had a few seconds ago.
"I… I'm the same as you. I don't have any friends either so that's why I was quite hesitant just now. The last friend I had left me alone for seven years… Though, I think I can trust you", he smiled.
Fragil's face grew a big smile as she turned her gaze back to the front. "I'm quite a shy person and get caught off guard a lot and I think that's part of the reason why I struggle to make friends. I know I'm five years older, but I hope that's not a problem".
"She's a noble, but she doesn't seem like those snobby ones that I always have to deal with. I think being friends with her is something I can do", Cyrus thought to himself. All he did to reply to Fragil was put a thumbs up with his left hand to which she returned with her right.
After another 15 minutes, the duo had arrived at the outskirts of Talon Village. The first, and the biggest, thing they noticed about the little village on the border between the Common and Forsaken Realm is that the entire place was very quiet.
"It's like you can hear the sound of each footstep the people in the town are making. There isn't any noise except for that…", Fragil noted as the two put their broomsticks in their hands.
Cyrus looked at the main square of the village and saw a large statue of an eagle in the middle. It was made out of marble but the material had seen better days since it was yellowing and breaking apart.
"I guess that's why it's called Talon Village – because of the statue of the eagle", he added.
The general layout of the village was like any other. It had a church, a school, a library, and other such places encircling the eagle statue where the villagers would socialise and commute. The houses were slightly further away from where the Magic Knights assumed would be the busiest, which was around the decaying statue.
Cyrus and Fragil made their way to the designated area and put their things down. It was a little area that was behind a large hedge that was also in the middle of a dense forest. It separated them well enough from the village so they were hidden away. Though, much to their own surprise, there was already another duo there before them.
"Oh, this is a surprise", Fragil said as she walked over to the two Magic Knights that were laying in rest on top of their sleeping bags.
Both of them had the squad robe of the Purple Orcas which made both Cyrus and Fragil raise their eyebrows, becoming hesitant. They knew the history of the disgraced squad and were wondering why these two were here.
The first person to reply out of the duo was someone that Cyrus had seen a few times before.
"You're here as well?" Cyrus asked as scanned the other Magic Knight.
It was none other than Aiden Sitrol who stood up from his position, greeting the two Aqua Deer squad members.
"It certainly is not a surprise. Weren't you told that we'd be teaming up for this mission?" Aiden asked, giving a light-hearted smile.
Cyrus and Fragil looked at each other for a few seconds before looking down towards the grassy floor. "Captain Rill… you left out a very key part of this mission".
Aiden waved the Aqua Deer duo to sit down with them around the campfire and within the next few minutes, the three of them – all except the second Purple Orca - had started to talk amongst each other.
"This mission was always a joint one due to the nature of it. We can't have too many Magic Knights from the same squad on this so it was best to split the workload with another squad – that being Daimon and I", Aiden explained.
Fragil looked over to the other Purple Orca who was a bit quiet next to Aiden. His blue eyes shifted from one Aqua Deer to the other and then let out a huge sigh.
"Your friend there seems a bit disappointed in us", Fragil pointed out. Her facial expression was that of someone who was worried since she didn't know why Daimon was giving off this particular vibe.
"You got that right", Daimon replied, brushing away Fragil's concern.
"Now, now, that's no way to talk to others", Aiden said with a stern look to his face. His silver-coloured glasses lit up white as he raised his head as the light reflected off from them.
"Why are your glasses lighting up like that, Aiden? It's like you're a typical character from a manga or something…", he shook his head. "Anyway, why did we have to be paired up with another squad on a mission like this? The Aqua Deer are weirdos with a bum as a captain".
"Excuse me?" Fragil joined the conversation. Despite her saying that she was shy, she wouldn't hesitate to give her thoughts when her own captain was being mocked.
"You heard me, chick with a snow hat", Daimon waved her away.
"Well, at least we have a captain and he's not a traitor either. I know I'd rather be with someone who didn't sell out the Magic Knights", Fragil retorted. She crossed her arms and looked away from the hot-headed Purple Orca.
The first impression of Daimon was not a very good one. He had an explosive personality and it didn't seem like he could hold back even if he wanted to. Judging by the clothes he was wearing, he was most likely a noble.
"Urgh, another one of those nobles…", Cyrus rolled his light-green eyes.
Daimon wore dark clothing which went well with his less-than-positive personality. He had a black shirt with a black tie that was under his Purple Orca squad robe. His trousers were also black and his shoes were a light-brown colour, giving it a slightly different tone to the rest of his outfit.
"Don't you dare talk about my squad like that!" Daimon shouted, raising his fists, and getting close to Fragil who had to shuffle backwards a bit.
Aiden sighed and this snapped Daimon back from his aggressive outburst. "Now, if you hit her where is that going to leave you? She reports this and the Purple Orcas get more of a negative reaction than we already have?"
"B-but…!" Daimon tried to argue but an angered look from Aiden made him stop. "Hmph", he said as he turned around from the three mages.
Aiden looked back at Cyrus and Fragil and saw that they both had distinct poker faces. They couldn't believe that they were with a character as explosive as this.
"Sorry about that. Daimon is a good guy but he's very emotional. Ever since our previous captain's crimes came to light, he's taken it very badly", Aiden bowed as a way to apologise.
"Um, are we really going to be okay for this mission?" Cyrus asked, raising his hand.
"Working with him is… well, you know", Fragil added. She gave an awkward laugh as way to soften what she was implying but all it did was made Daimon punch the ground.
The three cooperative Magic Knights shook their heads in defeat.
After this, the three of them exchanged information about the current mission.
"All we know so far is that there are a bunch of rogue Magic Knights about in the village and they're planning an attack on the Royal Capital soon", Fragil explained.
"It goes without saying that what we do here needs to be stealthy. We can't do anything sudden to raise suspicion", Cyrus added.
Aiden leaned back a bit and sighed. "I'm not really one for the quiet approach since my magic is built for offense but I think I can manage. Cyrus, you use Alchemy Magic, right?"
Cyrus, putting his notebook away as they just exchanged information, replied to Aiden. "Yes, I do".
"How is something like that going to help here?" Daimon shouted from a few steps away. Even though he didn't join in on the discussion, he was clearly listening in.
"You know what, I'd like to see what kind of magic you use, Daimon. You have a big mouth and all but can you back it up?" Cyrus stood up, getting angry.
Daimon turned around and saw Cyrus walk up to him. His face turned into a smirk and he raised his arms. "Oh, you're approaching me? You don't know what kind of magic I use yet you're getting close?"
The Purple Orca raised his right palm and out came a few flashes of white and orange light.
"Hang on, I don't think that's a good id-", Aiden tried to intervene but it was too late since Daimon's magic was already active.
The magic then turned into a small blast and it sent Cyrus backwards. The Aqua Deer landed on his face and as he got up, he felt some dirt across his forehead. He looked around and focused on Daimon again, walking up to him for a second time.
"Hm, do you need more of a stronger showing?" Daimon said, tensing his arms.
Cyrus didn't reply and, instead, took one step closer. He bent down on one knee and then rummaged around his satchel, bringing out his notebook for the second time since the two squad duos met.
"Wow, what kind of magic is that? I saw the white and orange light come from your hands so I thought it was something derived from Light Magic, but then that explosive power completely confused me! I really want to know!"
Cyrus started going on one of his tangents which always happened when he found something that tickled his fancy. It was the same with Lucas when he revealed his dual attributes, and now the same with Daimon.
"T-this guy…", Daimon stepped back as he seemed to get weirded out. He looked to find Aiden and ushered him with his spooked blue eyes.
"Hm, this is interesting. I'll let it play out", the Flame mage said as he leaned back. "I guess I'll ask Cyrus about it later", he thought back to when he was asking about the Aqua Deer's Alchemy Magic.
Fragil was also surprised but she wasn't quite spooked out as Daimon. "Cyrus has a love for anything that interests him, I guess. His magic and his personality work well together since Alchemy is all about discovery of the unknown", she smiled.
"So, so?" Cyrus repeated.
"Wow, this guy's tough… real tough…", Daimon said to himself as he finally let down his guard. "You're gonna stop being weird if I tell you?"
Cyrus paused for a few seconds before he realised just what he did. He took a step back and apologised or being weird in front of a guy who he hadn't even know before. "O-Oh, I'm sorry about that…", he began to close his notebook.
Daimon reached out his hand to prevent the Alchemy mage from closing his white notebook.
"N-no, you're good", he said. "Wow, he's weird… but he's not a bad guy", Daimon noted. He brought out his grimoire and showed it to Cyrus.
The three-leafed grimoire was a black and brown colour which coincidentally went well with his clothing. The outer edges of the front and back cover were brown with patterns of sparks or something close to that, whilst the inner square was black with the same pattern.
Cyrus's eyes turned into stars as he looked at the grimoire. He then looked at Daimon who explained just what it was.
"I use Explosion Magic. It's quite powerful on its own but also kind of a loose cannon so I often use it in tandem with another person's magic".
Fragil giggled a bit, realising something. "Explosion Magic for an explosive personality? That sounds about right. Besides, what is it with things being exactly as they sound recently? Daimon's clothes matching his personality but then so does his magic…".
Cyrus opened his notebook and wrote down all that Daimon just explained and even more. He wrote down theories and applications of this magic that he had just thought of. After a minute or two, he closed it and thanked Daimon.
"You know, I thought you were a snot-nosed noble like a lot of them but now I know that isn't the case", Cyrus said as he scratched his back.
"No… I'm really not like that but, well… ah, it doesn't matter!" Daimon started to raise his voice. He walked up to Aiden and picked him up by the arm. "When are we going to get started on the mission anyway?"
Aiden struggled to escape Daimon's grasp but eventually he was able to. With a heavy sigh, he addressed everyone.
"It's like Daimon said, or rather forced… we need to talk about how we'll approach this mission, but we need to be careful", he explained.
Fragil raised her arm. "Do we just go around together or in pairs?"
"I reckon we should split up. It would be faster to gather information when we're all in different areas of Talon", Cyrus added.
Daimon was constantly tapping the ground with his brown shoes as he was getting impatient. "Just decide on something, you guys", he said with an impatient tone.
Aiden proposed a different idea. "I agree with splitting up but why don't we change it up a bit? I'll go with Cyrus and Fragil here goes with Daimon?"
Fragil's light-blue eyes widened with what was being proposed. "N-No, that really isn't a good idea…", she said with a very obvious frown.
"Yeah, I'm with the chick. Let me go with you", Daimon added.
"Hang on. Stop calling me chick. It's rather demeaning", Fragil said. "Actually, fine. I'll go with this brat and teach him who I really am", the 3rd Class Intermediate Magic Knight added on with a slightly angered smile.
"I'll call you what I want", Daimon argued. "Come on, Aiden", he pleaded.
Aiden and Cyrus both shook their heads as Fragil's and Daimon's heads clashed. The Flame mage thought of an idea, however, as he leaned in to his squad mate's ear. He whispered something and after a few seconds of mulling it over, Daimon agreed to go with Fragil.
After another few minutes, both sets of duos were ready to head out towards Talon Village. However, the sun was still up high and had barely moved towards the west.
"Hm, we should probably wait a few more hours until it's at least the evening. That's when life gets a bit more active in places like this", Aiden said as he sat back down.
"Are we really going to wait an extra few hours?!" Daimon shouted, shaking the whole of the Flame mage's body from side-to-side.
"It's probably best actually. If it's nearer to the evening, the people might go to taverns and other such places and stop being as wary of other people", the Alchemy mage said as he pointed his finger up.
"Ah, do whatever!" Daimon shouted once again, walking off to the side.
The Magic Knights rested as they waited for the day to go by. Once the afternoon was gone and the day transitioned to the evening, the Magic Knights would head out to finally get started on this mission.
NOTES:
Cyrus's first mission is here and I'm happy to finally write it. I always had the idea of him being in the Aqua Deer in my head from when I first introduced him and I think it works quite well.
I've always liked Fragil but it's a shame that Tabata doesn't use her more than he did. I wanted to characterise her even more in this story so I hope you guys like her too.
A double mission and a teamup with the Purple Orcas of all people. Aiden hasn't been in the story for a long while and I figured it was time for him again. We also have Daimon who is a new OC given to me by 'ShadowUzumaki55' who is a long-time reader here.
