Chapter 1
Zero couldn't remember much of what happened the night of his parent's murder.
What he does is hazy, when he had awakened disoriented, one sentence lingers in the back of his mind;
"I will always protect you"
He wonders who had said those words as he didn't recognize the voice yet it seems so familiar and comforting.
The death of his parents left him numb with grief and hatred, the disappearance of his brother fuels the resentment towards all vampires especially purebloods and to be inform he would turn into one of those blood suckers to eventually fall to level E was the icing on the proverbial shit cake (that's what he thought).
He was then taken in by Kaien Cross, an ex-hunter who had an adopted daughter, Yuki.
When he first laid eyes on her the same voice echoed in his head, 'Don't grow emotionally attach to her' he'd stiffened, 'Don't be alarm we will talk more soon' to his surprise he'd relax.
While Kaien Cross talked to his former teacher, the man who brought him there, he was lead inside the house by Yuki, she spoke softly to him like he's made of fragile glass that would break at the slightest clamor while he was distracted by the voice reassuring and explaining who they are and certain other important things.
Understandably most people would've been freaking out at hearing voices in their head, Zero felt oddly calm jut listening, it made him feel not so alone.
One evening, a month later, at dinner a visitor was coming by that had young Yuki excited but when he felt their presence, with Kai's confirmation (that's the entity residing in his body name, BTW) of what they are his blood boiled, 'a pureblood'.
He stood from the table, glaring at the entry way in wait while grabbing the butter knife near his hand. Zero's first instinct was to attack but upon seeing him Kai spoke, stopping him in his track.
'Don't, he's not our true enemy!' 'Kaname, it's really him!'
'They are all the enemy' he growled back.
'Don't let your hatred blind you to life Zero, now calm down, lets go to your room, you still have much to learn' she reprimands.
His glare morphed into a mask of indifference, "dear guest, he released his hold on the knife, I'm afraid I won't be staying for dinner, I seem to have lost my appetite" he left to his room ignoring Yuki's and Kaien's call.
Kaname Kuran watched him leave with curious eyes.
Years pass and with Kai's influence Zero grew in an, interesting manner.
He had a more feminine persona. He grew out his hair to his waist (because 'someone' liked it) which he wears in a single French elegant braid. His choice in fashion consists of dark form fitting clothes, shoes with feminine design, painted his nails black (occasionally) and wear colored lip balms.
But don't let the girly appearance fool you his glares are fear inducing and deadly thanks to his head mate and not his former teacher despite what others think.
Attending Cross Academy, he gained a reputation of being the scariest/calmest person and the bane of some day and most night students.
Zero have his own fan club that he isn't aware of (for good reasons) and his hatred towards vampires had reduce greatly, (to the confusion of his former teacher and delight of his now adopted father) though that doesn't mean he acts overly friendly with them, only civil.
Which brings us to the present, the time for change-over and Zero is making his way to the moon dorm gates with swift graceful steps, uniform in neat display, the clicking of his heels hitting the pavements echo in the surrounding.
Upon arriving the first thing he see is Yuki struggling to control the rowdy day students.
Yuki Cross, his relationship with her was and is, complicated.
The best way to describe it is nails on chalk board.
Kai doesn't like her, at all, which he come to understand why but he played 'friendly sibling' for his adopted father's sake, before him and when in public.
The girl is pushy, loud, throws tantrums more than a five-year-old when she didn't get her way and annoying with a savior complex, thinking the world revolves around her.
Then there was her poorly concealed affections for Kaname Kuran, someone who he at first tried to avoid but that only seemed to endear the pureblood to seek him out and watched him whenever he thought no one was looking.
They eventually became close 'friends' over the years to Kai's pleasure thought Zero insist they kept their friendship secret to Kaname's displeasure however the atmosphere around them lighten noticeably by others the closer they become but chose to be oblivious.
Then there was Yagari and Cross who are worried about his impending fall to level E thought moot.
The blood tablets may taste gross but it helps calm their fears until he decides to inform them, even though he didn't need to consume blood, like any regular pureblood vampires.
The sound of a commotion interrupts his musing to see a female student about to fall.
Using vampiric speed, he caught her with ease.
She thanks him staring at his enchanting face in a daze but his dark expression snaps her back to reality.
"That was reckless, you could have been hurt badly, he scolds setting her down gently on her feet ignoring Yuki who had climb on top of the wall at some point, if anyone breaks the rules again this event will be cancel, for good" he threatens firmly ignoring their complains.
The gates open then and the night students head to their class, he rolls his eyes inwards watching silently as the day students fonds over them.
They made their way pass with Kaname Kuran greeting Yuki Cross as usual with a smile, the other girls didn't like when Yuki respond in kind, as usual.
The pureblood stops suddenly and glance his way, they stare at each other silently.
Kaname approach and greets him asking about his well-being.
Zero felt his heat skip a beat and Kai giggles at his reaction.
Kaname then bids him farewell at his silence then walks away but the silverette decides to mess with the pureblood a little and rile his followers for fun.
"Listen, if you want to challenge me, I'll be ready and waiting anytime you want, Kuran" he declares boldly.
The male brunette sighs inward knowing what his 'friend' is up to.
"That jerk" Aido glares.
"Hanabusa" Kain warns, he suspected something is up with the suppose enemies/rivals for a while and getting between them without knowing exactly what, can be dangerous.
The vampires continue on their way leaving behind a satisfy Zero. Yuki stare at her partner confuse about the exchange.
Hours later Zero walk by the kitchen in the chairman's house then pause at hearing Yuki's pitiful excuses in trying to make chocolate for Kaname.
With a scoff he continues on to his room, he meets Cross waiting for him in the hall way wearing a rare serious expression.
"Do you need something, father?"
Father, the endearing term Zero starts addressing the male by after living with him for six months that still make the ex-hunter giddy no matter how much he heard it as time pass, in fact it only seems to made him overzealous.
"No, he smiles brightly ruining his serious expression, I just came to give you these" he holds out his hand with a small black box for the teen to take.
"Thanks, I was running out, he takes and place it in his pocket, I'm going to bed, goodnight, father."
Zero walks away leaving a happy yet concern Kaien watching the silverette's loosen locks disappear behind close door.
To be continued…
