A Long Time Ago…
A strong blizzard overtook a planet, and an airship came flying into the atmosphere. It landed on the ground and then a hatch opened up.
Samus walked out of her ship, her arm cannon drawn out and she scanned the area. She detected nothing and then walked off.
Her mission was simple. Ten Metroids were discovered in this ice cold planet. She had no idea why the Metroids were at a place like this, but perhaps these particular Metroids adapted to the cold here.
She walked through the blizzard, scanning the area for Metroids. She deduced that they could be hiding out in some cave, away from the blistering cold of the harsh wintry winds. If anything, they probably migrated here right before it started to snow.
She continued to scan, but her scanner wasn't picking up on anything. To make matters worse, the blizzard was getting worse and her radar started glitching like crazy, plus it was hard to see where she was going.
She pressed on, determined to find these Metroids… even if it meant going in blind. She kept walking, and walking… looking for the Metroids. It was a complete white out, but she didn't care. These Metroids were dangerous and she wasn't going to let these monstrosities devour everything in this galaxy.
A few more steps were taken… and then when she took another step, she suddenly fell down a cliff, tumbling her way down, hitting a few trees and boulders on the way before she landed into the snow. She winced after that fall.
"Uuungh…" She groaned, slowly getting up. Luckily, the only thing that was hurt was her pride. She shook it off. "Glad no one was there to see that." She said as she took another step… and felt immense pain.
"Damn!" Samus hissed, feeling pain on her right leg. She must have sprained it pretty good. She worked her way over, limping across… but every step she took, the pain just got worse. The most athletic bounty huntress in the galaxy and she gets taken out by a friggin' cliff in the middle of a massive snowstorm. Not how she envisoned her way of going out…
She felt her away around, her scanner picking up on a cave close by as she limped her way over toward it, the pain getting worse through each step until she went into the cave. Finally… something other than white snow.
She rested her back on the wall and slowly sat down. She found a few sticks as she built a small base before she lit it up with a small mini bomb, which was enough to start a fire. She immediately deactivated her armor so she could look at her leg.
She moved her leg a bit, and felt immense pain. "Augh!" She cried out, hissing a bit. "Way to go, Samus… you don't get injured over someone like Ridley or Kraid, yet this is the one that does you in." She grumbled, tapping her ear to look into her scanner. She might as well get comfortable since there was no way she was going to walk out in that weather.
There it was. Ten Metroids remaining. All ten still waiting for her to kill and she will once her leg heals up. Then once it healed up, she'll go out into the cold blizzard and destroy those Metroids. All nine of them.
…Wait, nine?
Samus took a look at her scanner, seeing that there were nine Metroids remaining. Did it glitch… or was one stupid enough to brave the cold and got itself killed as a result? Either way, it was rather curious. She could've sworn it was ten… now it was eight.
Eight?!
Samus couldn't believe it. She pulled the scanner off of her ear and flicked it, shaking it and looked into it, thinking it glitched, but when she put it back on… she saw eight Metroi-… make that seven Metroids.
A slow dreaded feeling overtook Samus. Metroids aren't this stupid. No… someone else is taking them out, and she just so happens to be out here by herself, with a stupid sprained ankle.
Six. Five.
Her eyes widened, her pupils shrinking as she saw it get down to four. Fear… she hadn't felt afraid in a long time. Not ever since that damned space pirate destroyed her home and her parents. That damned Ridley…
Three.
She visibly gulped. Whatever this thing was… it was powerful, and it was coming fast. She quickly pulled out her Paralyzer Gun, hoping it would be enough to paralyze the beast so she could make a break for it with her bad leg.
Two.
A bead of sweat rolled down her forehead, trickling down her right cheek as she gritted her teeth.
One.
She unconsciously trembled. It was really close now. Whatever this thing was… it caused her fear to grow immensely.
Zero.
If this was how she was going to go out… then so be it. None of the Metroids survived whatever they just encountered… and she could hear the heavy footsteps in the snow. It was getting closer, and closer. Her body tightened, ready to shoot whatever came her way. She was ready to go out swinging.
Closer.
Closer…
Closer…
She could see a figure approaching the cave. She was ready. If one of them were to die, it better be the monster. Her finger on the trigger, ready to fight… sprained leg be damned.
"Poyo?"
Samus blinked a few times, looking down at the creature before her. A pink round… ball thing. "What… are you?" She asked, her hands still on the gun as the creature shook the snow off the head.
"Poyo!" It walked over to her with a smile as Samus knelt down, a confused look was on her face.
"Who… are you?"
The creature smiled. "Kah-by!"
"Kahby?" Samus raised an eyebrow. "Um… nice to meet you… Kahby." She said as she sat down, watching the pink puffball warm himself up in the fire. She stared at him. There was no way this little guy could have killed all those Metroids… right?
She witnessed the creature sucking up the fire… before becoming the fire itself as he started spewing fire on the wood to make the fire even bigger. "Poyo!"
"…What." She stared in disbelief as the creature happily moved over and sat on Samus' lap. "Agh! Careful… bad leg…!" She winced.
"Poyo… poyo!" He handed her a Maxim Tomato. "Poyo poyo."
"…Thank you?" Samus tilted her head and then took a bite. She wasn't really fond of tomatoes, but she immediately felt better after a single bite. She put the Maxim Tomato down and patted the creature on the head.
"Poyo poyo?"
"Mmm… are you asking for my name?" She asked as he nodded. Well… guess it wouldn't hurt, this creature seems harmless. She thought. "My name is Samus Aran."
"Sa-… Sa-…" The creature giggled. "Saw-moose Aay-ran!"
Samus stared at him before forming a small smile. She had to admit, that was the cutest try she ever heard. "Yes… you got it." She said, patting him on the head. She was unaware… that this little creature was the start of warming her cold heart.
She would then notice him immediately falling asleep on her lap, letting out a cute yawn in the process. She looked out the cave, seeing the blizzard wasn't letting up. She gently patted the pink marshmallow on the head before closing her eyes herself.
Several hours later…
"Poyo! Poyo poyo!"
"Mmm…" Samus rubbed her eyes, waking up and stretching… finding herself in the cave once more. Oh… it wasn't a dream at all. She thought as she stood up, then looked down at the Maxim Tomato that this "Kahby" gave her as she picked it up.
"Poyo!"
Samus looked up, seeing the blizzard had disappeared and noticed the pink puffball making snow angels outside. She let out a chuckle and walked out, activating her Varia Suit and walked out, seeing blue skies while the snow was incredibly deep, but that didn't seem to stop the little guy from enjoying himself.
Samus checked her scanner again, seeing that all the Metroids had indeed been vanquished as she turned to the little Star Warrior. There's still no way that this little guy could actually destroy those Metroids… She thought. She wagered a guess that he tricked them into going outside… but then again, Metroids aren't dumb.
She let out a shrug and then walked off, only to see that the way back was by a tall cliff. "Poyoooo!" Samus would turn around, seeing him hop onto a Warp Star and he moved over, motioning her to get on the star. Samus let out a "why not?" shrug as she climbed onto the Warp Star, then they flew up together as they landed near Samus's ship
"Poyo!" He waved and then flew off, where Samus walked into her ship, putting the Maxim Tomato in a safe location while she turned the ship back on.
"Mission accomplished… I guess." Samus said with a chuckle and then flew off.
"And that is the story of how Kirby and I met." Samus said, with Kirby happily sitting flatly on her hair.
"Poyo!"
"Wooooow!" Penny said with her eyes sparkling. "That's so cool how you two met!"
"Yeah… I didn't know it then, but this little guy jump started my ice cold heart." Samus chuckled.
"Quick question!" SAPR spoke up. "How did you meet the Metroid that's currently with you?"
Samus chuckled. "Well, I suppose I can tell you that story. Alright, so my mission was simple… destroy all the Metroids on SR-38. It seemed simple at first, but I never realized what I was about to encounter."
This one was requested by CobaltBlueYoshi a long time ago, and I had just remembered it earlier today. So I went "Yeah, I can do this one!"
