She sat on the edge of the empty bed, legs hanging off the side and idly swinging. Her eyes were trained on one of the plain beige walls in her room.
She knew her dad just wanted what's best for them, but he did too much sometimes. Being a pro hero was tough on him, but he still made time in his hectic schedule for his family and did his absolute best to give them all happy life. Always wanting to follow in her dad's footsteps, her dad had picked up and moved the whole family to Matsufasu so she could attend the best school in Japan for her dream could come true - U.A.!
Getting off her bed, she knelt down so she could open her suitcase that was full of books, one of them having a loose piece of paper hanging out:
UA高校出願" (U.A High school Application)
She yanked the paper out of the book, almost tearing it in half, then rushed to grab a pen and laid on her stomach on the hardwood floor and began to fill it out. "Name," She stated out loud while writing, smiling like a complete psychopath, waaaaay too excited for this but it was understandable for the gravity of the situation.
Only about a few questions away from finishing the application, the door gently swung open, and her dad appeared in the doorway, smiling fondly down at the ecstatic young teen.
"You have not stopped looking at that piece of paper since you got it - you're excited, aren't you?"
She rolled onto her back and gave him the stink eye, "It's not my fault I could get into the most prestigious high school in Japan... FOR HEROES! You would be like this too!"
He chuckled while shuffling over and plopping down on the floor next to her. "Sweetie, need I remind you I did go through this?" Her broad smile faltered at her brain fart, "I felt the exact excitement!"
Rolling her eyes in response, she set head in his lap, and he began combing his fingers through it, which always soothed her. "Yeah, yeah, Mr. 'I'm-a-Pro-Hero-and-Have-Gone-Through-Everything.'"
He briefly tickled her sides in a teasing manner before retorting mockingly, "Yeah, yeah whatever you little brat. I came in here to tell you that... you don't have to fill that form out!"
This piqued her curiosity, and she raised her eyebrows in surprise. "And why's that? Don't all candidates have to fill this out in order to get into U.A?" She asked with an airy laugh as if he was being silly.
"I'm saying there is no need to fill it out because it will be rather useless since I'm getting you on recommendation! That way you don't have to wait to see if you can do the exam!"
Shooting her upper body off the ground, she stared at him in unease. She wanted to do the entrance exam! She wanted to prove her quirk was strong enough to actually make it into U.A.! Getting in on recommendation felt more like a free pass into U.A than actually doing the hard work.
"Isn't that kind of cheating...?" She asked unsurely.
"No not at all!" Her dad reassured her, "It has a test you have to pass but it's not as rigorous as the entrance exam."
In her mind it still felt like cheating. "This seems unfair dad... I want to go in the normal way, not on a free pass!"
She stood up from the ground and looked blankly at the application in her hand, and her father followed suite and put a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Oh, honey I know you did, but I just know that with how your quirk is, it'll be easier to get in without hurting your hands more."
She had to admit he was right - they were pale as a ghost and colder than a blizzard... add a carrot nose on one of the fingers and it could have been frosty the snowman!
But that didn't matter! She was going to go to the entrance exam no matter what! "But dad-!"
He gave her a stern look that meant 'This conversation is over.' Oh, how she hated that look, always getting it unjustly from her mom, but she knew he never would use it for no reason so she never complained about it. "Fine...I'll get it on recommendation." She conceded with a mumble. It hurt her soul to say it, but if it got her into U.A then she guessed it wouldn't be so bad.
The loving smile returned to his face, "Thank you, sweetie. Now, unpack and get some rest, the test is tomorrow!" He kissed her forehead while hugging his daughter tightly.
She couldn't help but smile back, "Ok." Before she could say more, a young boy waddled his way into the room looking for one of them. Her heart warming, she approached him with a wide smile. "Hey bud! Are you wearing your all might shirt?!" He fervently nodded in response with a big grin, then held his arms out for her to pick him up, but the father was the one to pick him up.
"Alright, come on Akihiko - it's time for your shower!" The boy was confused but put his head on his father's shoulder, as she waved in goodbye. Once shut the door behind them though she turned, her smile dropped into an unsure frown, and the teen girl fell down against the door slowly.
Am I really doing this? Going into U.A. on a free pass? Maybe it wouldn't be so bad - it would keep her hands from freezing like a statue.
If you continue using your quirk too much...The doctor hesitated in telling her the bad news, I'm afraid that your hands won't be mobile anymore. The best we can do is limit your quirk use to 50% instead of the full 100%.
That sentence played in her mind over and over since the appointment a few months ago. She could see the concern in her dads and the doctor's face, and she couldn't even use her quirk to her full advantage at the tests. It was so unfair! She wanted to show off her quirk but instead she's stuck using only 50% of it.
With a heavy sight she stood and started to pull some bed sheets out of a box to put them on the bed before crawling under the blankets and looking at the dim glow of the phone. If she was being honest with herself, with everything that went on in her life, this was the least of her worries.
Putting her earbuds in before turning the phone off and setting it down on the nightstand, she thought to herself: Maybe tomorrow won't be so bad...right?
Oh, I forgot.
