The stasis chamber had made it seem like no time had passed at all, it didn't mean she appreciated that a group of military people were suddenly gawking at her when she opened her eyes. Thanks to the Dr. Elizabeth Weir from the other doomed timeline, she did know that this was likely to happen soon or later. It didn't make her any happier.
As they were kind of just staring at her rudely, she smiled and politely told them, "Hello. It's rude to gawk at people. Especially when they have just woken up from a really long nap."
Elizabeth, or rather this timeline's Elizabeth recovered first. "Hello. I'm Dr. Elizabeth Weir. These people," and she helpfully gestured toward the rest of the people who were standing in a loose half-circle around the stasis chamber, "are Dr. Carson Beckett, Major John Sheppard, Dr. Rodney McKay, Teyla Emmagan, and Lt. Aiden Ford."
She gave them a polite, but standard meeting new people you're not sure you're going to like kind of smile, before returning her focus to the lady in charge. It was refreshing to see a woman in that position.
"Our apologies if we appeared to be rude. We didn't expect to find anyone else in the remaining stasis chambers."
There were some heavy implications behind that supposed innocuous statement, including that they had found the other Elizabeth, but she chose to ignore it for the moment as there were more pressing questions. She wasn't offended, but she did take the opportunity to step out of the small chamber. Her moving caused everyone else in the room to take several steps backward. Several of them also took an automatic and no doubt reassuring grip on their machine gun, just in case she turned out to be more dangerous than she looked. Smart people.
"Why are you?" She would bet dollars to donuts, although she had neither, that he was the grunt in charge.
But before he had the chance to say anything else, a civilian interrupted, "Why don't you look a hundred years old like the old Elizabeth did? And why are you wearing jeans and not those Ancient tunic things?"
The latter part caused most of the others to drop their eyes to her lower half to confirm that, yes, she really was wearing a pair of well-worn blue jeans.
The last question caused her to give her first genuine smile in quite some time, it was just so irrelevant to the situation. "In order of asking; My name is Buffy Summers. Classified. My jeans are much more comfortable and stylish."
"Classified? CLASSIFIED?!" Apparently, the good doctor had a little problem with her answer as judging by the amount of air he was drawing into his lungs meant that he was gearing up for what promised to be an impressive tantrum.
"Yes, Dr. McKay. Classified. Since you're surrounded by military people that should be a concept you're familiar with."
"If I may ask a question," the other woman in the room aside from herself and Elizabeth gave her a questioning look. Buffy nodded and she continued. "It appears you knew the other Dr. Elizabeth Weir. May we assume that you were here in Atlantis when she arrived in the past 10,000 years ago?"
"You may."
Dr. McKay opened his mouth to speak again but quickly closed it when Teyla gave him a warning look. Buffy carefully made sure the smile didn't show on her face during the interaction.
"Are you an Alteran or did you arrive in the past in the same time machine as the alternate Dr. Weir?" Everyone abruptly gave her their full attention.
"That's a negatory on both. I had been living on Atlantis for a while when her gateship crashed into the ocean outside the shield though."
Major Sheppard stared, well all of them did, but he found his voice first. "The old Elizabeth had aged into a very old lady, but you still look 25ish. Telling us the reason is classified when whoever you reported to has probably been dead for ten millennia makes no sense."
"It does if you didn't make a very big assumption."
The man raised an eyebrow. "Such as?
In lieu of answering, she broke some social cues and asked a question instead; "Have you heard of a town called Sunnydale?"
Nonplussed, he merely shook his head. Buffy sought out eye contact with the rest of the group who clearly hadn't heard of it either.
A Scottish brogue came out when Dr. Beckett asked his first question, "Is that your homeworld?"
It was Buffy's turn to shake her head, "No, it's a town I lived in back on Earth. I asked because in my timeline or reality or whatever, it sank into a crater in 2003. It would've been kind of hard to miss since it was very sudden and made headlines for weeks. I just wanted to check if I had returned to where I'm supposed to be or if I'm still in the wrong place."
"It's 2006 if that helps. But I guess you're in the wrong something since none of us know what you're talking about, and we can't get into contact with Earth so we can't ask them either." Somehow the youngest member of their group managed to both enlighten her to the answer to a question she wanted the answer to and at the same time confirm she wasn't getting back home anytime soon, if ever.
Mr. Military commander didn't seem to like that his underling had divulged that little piece of information though, as he received a glare for his effort. She gave him a smile to counteract it since she really did appreciate what he'd told her.
"Does that mean you're from Earth or that you have just visited there in the," she hesitated for a split second, "the past?"
At almost the same time, McKay clearly couldn't keep quiet anymore. "Where's Sunnydale?"
"Yes," Buffy replied, "I'm from Earth. Specifically from Los Angeles, at least originally. Sunnydale is about a two-hour drive northwest of there."
Clearly fed up with the non-answers to his questions, Major Sheppard decided it was time to change locations. "How about you go and get checked over by Dr. Beckett, and once he gives you the clear we can continue this little chat in one of the conference rooms."
It was Buffy's turn to blink, "Why does he need to perv on me?"
Before any of the men got the chance to say anything unfortunate to make the situation worse, Dr. Weir broke in and soothed her confusion. "He meant a medical check, not anything uncouth. They are standard for anyone who has been off-world, or, in your case, is new to us. It's just to make sure you're healthy and don't carry anything dangerous to us."
"Oh." She felt a little stupid, because, duh. Of course, the military guy wanted to make sure she wasn't carrying any nasty germs that could infect his troops. Not that it would've mattered at that point since they had been chatting for a while and she had plenty of time to give them the space flu or whatever.
Then halfway through the door, she remembered something, "I will only consent to a medical check, no tests that I am not informed of in advance."
"Of course," both Dr. Weir and Dr. Beckett agreed.
She wasn't entirely convinced, but then again it wasn't like they were going to find anything supernatural or mystical. No one there pinged on her senses, and technology could not sense or detect magic.
