I AM DIO!"

Those were DIO Brando's last words as his stand, THE WORLD, was destroyed by the force of Star Platinum's fist hitting its leg, killing DIO in the process. THE WORLD, and DIO's entire body were completely destroyed in an explosion of light.

DIO...

THE WORLD

—Utterly Defeated

one year earlier...

DIO was currently in his mansion browsing through the large library, filled with a large collection of books he had collected over the years since his return to the surface. He had read most of them and gathered enough information to start putting together his plan of obtaining 'Heaven'. However, he had discovered something very interesting recently, alternate realities, and began researching to find out more on the subject.

"Ah, here it is."

DIO had been looking for a particular book, one that spoke of heroes summoned from across the multiverse, heroes known as 'cardinal heroes', and finally found it. DIO opened the book and to his disappointment, it had seemed to be a mere fairy tale. DIO was about to put it back on the shelf until something caught his eye, pages were blank, specifically the ones discussing the adventures of the heroes. DIO was curious about what this meant and decided to conduct a little test, grabbing a pen, he tried to write in the blank pages, but the ink ignited into flames and caused a small explosion.

"THE WORLD, STOP TIME!"

DIO stopped time, which currently lasted for three seconds, and moved away from the book engulfed in flames.

"Time shall resume."

Right on queue, time began to flow again. The smoke from the explosion cleared, revealing the book, completely unscathed and the ink gone, leaving the pages blank once again. At this point DIO was fully invested in this strange book and decided to conduct another test.

"THE WORLD."

DIO called upon THE WORLD, more calmly this time, and psychically commanded his stand to punch the book into oblivion.

"MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA, MUDA!"

THE WORLD launched multiple light-speed punches at the book, but they were completely ineffective. DIO continued to do more tests on the book, all of which caused a variety of reactions from the book, until finally DIO decided to do one more test, one final test.

"Vanilla Ice."

"Yes, master."

"Use your stand to erase this book."

"Lord DIO, you are aware that my stand erases all space."

"For some reason I doubt this book will suffer that fate."

Vanilla Ice summoned his stand, Cream, and erased the book from existence.

"Lord DIO, the book was er—."

DIO raised his hand.

"Wait for it."

After a moment, sparks of light appeared and the book rematerialized. DIO grinned and then began to laugh maniacally.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

present day, somewhere in the multiverse

DIO felt his head spinning, the world around him blank, his ears ringing, his body felt like it was on fire, but after a few moments his vision cleared and the pain he felt disappeared.

"Where am I?"

DIO looked at his surroundings, he was in a grass field and it was night. He scanned the area but saw nothing but grass. DIO felt a cool breeze hit his alabaster skin and realized something—he was topless. Looking down he noticed he wore a pair of slightly baggy yellow trousers exposed at the crotch area and black undergarments along with a gold belt with a heart motif.

"Who am I?"

DIO asked himself before noticing something in the corner of his vision, an icon, he focused on it and it opened up revealing a menu of sorts. On it, he saw a name, DIO, along with a lot of other info. Most notably however, there was a level-reading that read 'twenty-five'.

"Is that my name DIO?"

DIO thought out loud.

"What is all this information?"

More and more questions popped up in DIO's head, but before he could ponder on them, he was interrupted by a small balloon creature jumping out of the grass and attacking him. As if on instinct, DIO summoned his stand.

"THE WORLD!"

Everything around DIO began to slow down as time itself succumbed to his will.

DIO stared in shock as the creature in front of him was frozen mid-air, and right beside him was a being with gold skin and golden armor floating above the ground.

"DIO, you have finally summoned me."

"Summoned you?"

"Yes, DIO, I am your stand, THE WORLD."

"Stand?"

"The physical manifestation of your spiritual essence."

"I see. Do you have any recollection of how we ended up here?"

"Unfortunately, no, however, I do know a few things that could help us."

"Okay then, where shall we begin?"

"There should to be a town nearby, about ten kilometers west of here."

"And how do you know that?"

"There are certain things in the back of your mind that I can make out. I'm sure with enough time that can change."

"Good. Can you tell me what this icon in the corner of my eye is?"

"That is a sort of your statistics menu of your strength, speed, abilities, etc."

"And what is this level-reading for?"

"It is a rating of your overall power and grows as time goes on."

"Some of these 'abilities' are locked."

"Probably because of our memory lose."

"This all feels quite strange and foreign, despite the fact that you remember."

"As I said before I, like you, I have no recollection of previous events."

DIO rubbed his neck and felt like there was supposed to be something there, but didn't comment on it.

"Master."

"Yes."

"Time will resume soon."

THE WORLD pointed at the balloon creature frozen in front of them.

"Yes, right. THE WORLD could you deal with it.

"It would be a pleasure."

THE WORLD smiled mischievously as he readied his fists to pummel the creature into dust.

"MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA!"

With one final shout of THE WORLD's signature battle cry, time once again resumed its flow. The creature was turned to dust and carried away by the wind.

"Let us depart then."

"Yes, we should hurry before the sun comes up soon."

"And why is that a concern?"

"DIO, you are a vampire, more specifically a human with full control over your body."

"And how did I acquire this control?"

"Like I said, I don't remember."

The vampire and the stand journeyed for a few hours, encountering a few more of those balloon creatures along the way.

"We need to hurry, the sun is rising."

THE WORLD said worried the sun might rise before they reach the town.

"Is there no ability you have that might be able to get us there quicker."

"Just maybe, it could possibly work."

THE WORLD said to himself and returned into DIO.

"THE WORLD what is the meaning of this."

"DIO, do not worry we can still communicate telepathically. Now, I have imbued your body with stand energy. Now... jump."

"What?!"

"Jump or be destroyed by the sun."

DIO reluctantly complied and as he jumped a golden aura surrounded his body and carried him further than he thought. He could even see the town from this height—which now that he looked at it seemed more like a city. However, he began to start falling and came up with an idea.

"THE WORLD, STOP TIME!"

Time stopped and DIO's idea worked, he had stopped falling and now could move freely through the air.

"Good thinking, DIO, but how did you come up with it."

"I based it of the fact that space and time are intertwined and gravity accelerates. By stopping time I would stop the acceleration of gravity."

DIO used his limited time stop to carry himself half way to the city before time resumed once again. As he fell he repositioned himself to fall feet first. Once his feet touched the ground he used the downward force to jump higher this time, like a spring. DIO continued to use his little timestop trick until he reached the city, which seemed medieval.

"That's odd, I'm sure I would recognise the era I lived in, but this place feels foreign."

"I'm also confused by this, perhaps we traveled back in time at one point."

"It is definitely in the realm of possibility."

The sun had begun to rise and shine on the earth, so DIO looked at his surroundings and saw a caravan entering the city. He stopped time and snuck inside before time continued flow. At the front of the caravan, DIO overheard two people discussing something.

"Did you hear, the king of Melrowmarc is going to summon the legendary cardinal heroes."

"Yeah, I also heard he's going to summon all four using some ancient magic."

DIO could see flashes of his past and his research on these 'cardinal heroes' and that mixed with what he knew so far, he came to one conclusion—he's in an alternate universe.

"Could this ancient magic take us back to our world?"

"Possibly, if it can bring people from other worlds."

The caravan came to a stop near a building, and DIO could hear voices approaching the back.

"You got the metal I requested."

"Yeah, we got all of it."

"Alright bring it in."

DIO immediately stopped time and needed to think of a plan since he couldn't go outside he needed to act from here.

"THE WORLD, we cannot allow them to discover us or we'll be vaporized."

"Don't worry there is an ability you could use to hypnotize the two to move the caravan."

Time eventually moved again, the driver and the other male went to the back of the caravan and opened the back doors. The two males were immediately hypnotized by DIO's eyes.

"You are to move this caravan away from the sun and out of sight."

The two immediately compiled, closing the back doors and moving the caravan into the shade.

"Can you hurry this up I have a delivery to make!"

The man was growing impatient with the two who seemed to ignore him, as they mindlessly moved the caravan for some unknown reason. Soon the caravan was in the shade and DIO snuck out, not before taking some gold from the two. After a few moments the two males snapped out of their trance and delivered the metal to the annoyed blacksmith. DIO moved through the city with an inhuman swiftness, buying a yellow jacket to cover his bare chest along the way. He eventually decided to seek shelter in an inn. DIO sat on his bed after taking a long, hot bath and fixing his gold hair which was now loose and reached below his shoulders.

"What a stressful day, I need to rest."

"That would be wise."

DIO laid in his bed and fell asleep with one single final thought.

"HEAVEN."
