Mass Accelerator Types
Microscale Mass Accelerators
Also referred to "Rapid-fire mass accelerators" or "Mass accelerator machine guns", these mass accelerators come in a veriety of variants and sizes, ranging from pistols to ship-mouted auto-cannons. These weapons fire sand grain-sized slugs at high velocity. Utilizing onboard computers, Microscale mass accelerators calculate the exact size and shape of the slug needed to deal the most damage to the target, shaves it off from a solid ammunition block and accelerates it to high velocities all within milliseconds.
Auxiliary Mass Accelerator
Also referred to as an "anti-tank", "anti-armour" or "anti-vehicular" mass accelerator is a small-scale, turreted mass accelerator cannons commonly used on ground vehicles or small starships.
Mk I Mass Accelerator
An experimental ship-based mass accelerator that never saw wide-spread use beyond a number of "test bed" starships in the early 2150s.
Mk II Mass Accelerator
The first mass produced mass accelerator fielded by 2nd Generation Alliance warships throughout the 2150.
Modified Mk II Mass Accelerator
Following the end of the First Contact War, older generation ships went through large scale retrofits to bring them up to galactic standards. One of these improvement involved heavy modifications to the coils, rails, capacitors and Mass effect field generators of the Mk II Mass Accelerator. Producing what would be known as the "Modified Mk II"
Mk III Mass Accelerator
The Mk III Mass Accelerator was a direct improvement on the Mk II, developed from the ground up utilising modified turian designs following the end of the First Contact War and saw use throughout the 2160, 70s and 80s.
