Hi All. Welcome to chapter one of Potter Kind: On Their Own. This is the second story in the Potter Kind series, I hope to write new stories for this series frequently. This series was inspired by some works by a writer who used to be on this site but doesn't put her work out there because of some negative feedback sadly. This story is complete and was written as a one shot, but as my poll results were tied and it was 15000+ words long, I decided it was too long to be a one shot, so I've split it into six chapters for you. Updates should be weekly unless something drastic happens. Don't forget if you haven't already, make sure to go onto your profile and opt in for email notifications if you want to be notified each time that I put a new chapter/story up.
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, Castor Charlus Potter and Jennifer Euphemia Potter are my own original characters, but all other recognisable characters belong to J K Rowling, I just like to use them to do my bidding.
Series Summary: We know from the Black Tapestry that Dorea Black married Charlus Potter and they had a son. What if Charlus was James Potter's Father Fleamont Potter's brother? What if James had a little sister? What if Harry had other family members who could have taken him in and raise him? This is the story of the last three Potters.
Story Summary: Castor is a Hogwarts Graduate now and determined to be his little sister and brother's legal guardian, this is the story of their first day alone. AU, two OC's. Contains Spanking. Full warnings inside.
Warning: This is AU and has two OC's, and contains non-sexual spanking of a minor by their legal guardian. Don't like, don't read.
As always, a huge, huge thank you to my amazing Beta who has been an amazing support in writing this. Yes, I am still trying my hardest to turn her into a Harry Potter Fan and I think I'm slowly convincing her. Without her support and guidance, I probably wouldn't have written this one.

The next morning Cas was awoken by the little hurricane that was also known as Harry.
Harry ran into his big brother's room and tugged on his brother's duvet as he attempted to climb up onto the bed, "Cas! Cas! Cas!" He cheered.
Cas let out a slightly groggy chuckle as he reached over the edge of the bed, hoisted the almost three-year-old up and tucked him in against his chest. He wrapped his arms around his baby brother and cuddled him like a teddy bear, "hmm my favourite teddy bear is back, now I can sleep for even longer," he teased.
Harry giggled in delight and squirmed in Cas' arms, "no, no seep, pay!" He demanded.
Cas hugged the little boy even tighter, "hmmm I don't know, you are awfully snuggly little bear," he mused. "I suppose if you don't want to be my teddy bear so that I can sleep, I might just have to… tickle you mercilessly!" He immediately started tickling the little toddler's belly, grinning at the shrieking laughter he got in response.
Harry shrieked as Cas tickled him and he kicked and squirmed as he tried to escape the tickling, "no! No! S'op!" He screeched.
After catching a particularly hard little ankle in the stomach Cas decided it was probably a good idea, "okay, okay, no more tickle monster," he chuckled. He rolled out of bed, lamenting the early wake up, but it was something he was used to when he was home, apparently toddlers did not understand the meaning of a lie in. He scooped Harry up and tossed him over his shoulder, "do you need potty?" He asked.
Harry lay catching his breath on Cas' bed, just for a moment though as then Cas was throwing him over his shoulder and he squealed in delight again, giggling happy. "Uh huh, needs poddy!" He confirmed.
Cas shook his head at the little boy's predictability and carried him into the bathroom, pushing away his own need for now. He helped him pull down his little pyjama pants and the pull-up, Harry was potty trained during the day, but it was hit and miss whether he would wet the bed at night, so wore his pull-ups. He wasn't quite three yet, so Cas wasn't concerned, all the parenting books had said he could be having night-time accidents until age five and that was perfectly normal. After lifting Harry up and setting him on the toilet, Cas turned to give him privacy, as he tossed the pull-up in the bin and Harry's pyjama pants in the laundry hamper. Sirius or Remus would drop over the clothes that had been in the laundry when they were cleaned, so he wasn't worried about them.
Once Harry was done, Cas pulled out his little step stool and helped his baby brother wash his hands before he tugged the pyjama top up and off over his head. "Go pick out what t-shirt and big boy pants you want to wear today," he directed. He resisted the urge to chuckle as Harry ran from the bathroom, not a care in the world to his state of undress. At least Harry was happy to get dressed in the mornings, it was after his bath Cas would have to watch out; Harry delighted in making everyone chase him around when he was wet and naked from the bath, and he was surprisingly quick on his little feet.
Cas took care of his own business then, before following Harry into his bedroom. Normally Cas wouldn't have sent his not even three-year-old brother to choose his clothes, it was too much choice for the toddler, but as they were moving today, most of Harry's clothes were already packed up and he only had two choices to pick between. He crouched down so he was a closer height to his little brother, "have you picked?"
"Yuh huh!" Harry agreed. He thrust his pick of white pants with golden snitches zooming around on them, and a red t-shirt with the Gryffindor lion on the chest at his big brother.
Cas gave Harry an approving smile, "good pick little brother, Gryffindor is the best." He ruffled his hair and then 'helped' Harry get dressed, having to hide his amusement when the toddler declared he could do it 'm'sef' he just nodded and agreed but said he was just helping. He grabbed a brush to tug it through his baby brother's unruly hair, though truly nothing could tame the Potter bird's nest that all the males in the Potter family seemed to end up with. "Alright, how about some juice and a banana before breakfast?" He suggested.
"Yay! Nana, nana, nana, nana!" Harry sang bouncing around the room in excitement.
Cas shook his head in amusement but stood up, "come on then." He let Harry run ahead of him as he put away the clothes Harry hadn't picked and with a wave of his wand all the packed-up boxes were shrunk and ready to be transported to the Manor. Before Harry could get up to mischief though he followed his little brother to the staircase relieved to see him stood in front of the stair ward instead of trying to climb it. "Good boy, well done for waiting," he praised, "do you want me to carry you down, or do you want to walk yourself?" He had learnt well that Harry responded better when given a choice and it led to fewer tantrums over not wanting to do something.
"Walk! I a big boy! I walk!" Harry chanted.
"Okay then Harry, but you must hold my hand remember?" Cas reminded.
Harry nodded and reached out his little hand for his big brother, making little grabby motions with it.
Cas made sure he had a secure hold on Harry's hand before he released the stair ward. Then he made sure Harry walked down the stairs one at a time and held on tightly to the banister with his other hand. They made slow but steady progress down to the bottom floor of the house. "Alright, you can go and play with your toys now, I'll make you your juice and banana," he allowed, releasing Harry's hand. He reset the stair ward on the bottom stair with a tap of his wand, just to be on the safe side.
Harry didn't need telling twice, he immediately darted off for the living room where his toys were.
Cas hadn't asked Remus or Sirius to pack up Harry's toys yet, he didn't know how long it would take to get Jenny all packed up and the last thing he needed was a bored Harry pitching a fit because he couldn't play. He made his way to the kitchen and filled a sippy cup with the diluted apple juice that Harry favoured, he flicked on the kettle to make coffee, already missing Hogwarts breakfasts. He knew he could ask the Potter House Elves to just look after them, but Lily had taught him how to cook and look after himself and it was one way that he kept the memory of her alive for him. He grabbed one of Harry's bowls and a banana, cutting up half of it into toddler friendly slices, eating the other half himself. When the kettle boiled, he made himself a mug of coffee, to help shake off the tiredness he could feel. He carried the cup of juice, bowl of banana, and his coffee out to the living room and set the juice and banana on the coffee table, smiling as he watched Harry play with his toddler potions kit, "what are you making Wingnut?"
"Poshun," Harry answered. He used the toy knife to chop up the plush mystery potion ingredient, then swept it into his wooden cauldron. The toddler potions kit couldn't make real potions, but each plush 'ingredient' reacted differently when paired with the correct toy tool. The cauldron combined the 'ingredients' and made a different colour large plush, depending on what 'ingredients' had been put in the cauldron. The large plush could be separated by the toy vials. Then when the 'vials' were all poured out into a pile, after twenty-four hours the magic was reversed, and the 'ingredients' returned to their original state.
Cas sat down on the sofa and drank his coffee as he watched his little brother play. He smiled at Harry's simplistic answer, "oh I see, what does your potion do?"
"I no know," Harry shrugged.
Cas just laughed, "well okay then, your banana and juice are on the table."
"Fank you!" Harry chimed dutifully. He abandoned his potion and went to grab his juice, stuffing a slice of banana into his mouth as he did.
Cas drank his coffee and let the caffeine give him the energy needed to face the day, "I'm going to go get dressed and then we can play together for a bit, okay?" He told his brother.
"Otays," Harry replied distractedly.
Satisfied that he wasn't needed in that moment Cas quickly headed back upstairs, dressing himself in the set of casual robes he'd left out, before he packed up the last of his belongings, shrinking the boxes and popping them all into the pocket of his robes. He nipped quickly into Harry's room and put his boxes in a separate pocket as well. He returned and joined his brother on the floor, playing with the happy little toddler.
Remus was the first to join Cas and Harry downstairs and let out a little sigh of relief seeing Harry safe and being entertained. He was more accustomed to being awoken by the toddler, sometimes accompanied by Sirius, and had worried when he'd woken up naturally this morning. "How long ago was the kettle boiled?" He questioned.
"Um maybe an hour? Did it sound like Jenny might be getting up soon? I want to start breakfast in a bit," Cas answered.
Remus smiled a little sadly, "how about you let me take care of breakfast today?" He saw the look on Cas' face and hastened to explain, "you've got enough on your plate today. Sirius will be up in a bit; he can entertain Harry and you can get Jenny up."
Cas sighed but relented, he wanted to prove he could take care of Harry and Jenny and that included being able to feed them, but he rather suspected he was going to have quite the battle with his little sister, and he was dreading it just a bit. "Yeah okay," he agreed.
"Excellent, how does eggy bread and bacon sound for breakfast?" Remus offered brightly.
"Eggy bed! Eggy bed! Want eggy bed!" Harry insisted happily.
Cas laughed, "I think that's a yes."
Remus chuckled, "eggy bread it is," he paused then, listening to sounds only he could hear with his advanced werewolf hearing. "Sounds like Sirius is getting up if you want to go wake Jenny up. Harry can come help me make breakfast."
Harry's eyes lit up in delight, "yes! Yes! Yes! I 'elps I 'elps." He scrambled up onto his feet and ran over to his Uncle Moony.
Cas sighed, well there was no sense putting it off further, "thanks Remus." He pushed himself up to standing and ran his hand through his hair before he pulled his determination together and headed up to his little sister's room. He knocked lightly on the door before he opened it, he wasn't overly surprised to find absolutely nothing packed, and even less surprised to see his unhappy little sister sat up on the edge of her bed with a face of thunder. "Jenny," he sighed, a note of exasperation in his voice.
"You don't even care that you're ruining my life do you Cas?!" Jenny grouched.
Cas crossed the room and sat down on Jenny's bed next to her and went to put his arm around her.
Jenny shoved her brother's arm away from her. "I don't want a fricking hug Cas!" She snapped irritated.
Cas dropped his arm and tried to think of what to say, a small part of him saying he needed to at least reprimand his sister for talking to him like that, James certainly wouldn't have let her.
"Oi, Jennifer, you don't talk to your brother like that," Sirius scolded firmly. It hadn't been easy, but since James and Lily were murdered, he had to step up and become a father figure to at least Jenny and Harry.
Jenny blushed and looked down at her lap, "sorry Sirius," she grumbled.
Cas felt a flicker of annoyance at Sirius for intervening, but at the same time he was a little relieved not to get into it with his little sister right now. "Remus is making eggy bread and bacon for breakfast, we can get you packed up after we've eaten," he sighed.
Jenny bit back what she wanted to say, but only because Sirius was right there looking at her with his eyebrow raised. "Whatever," she huffed.
"Be careful little girl, you are skating on some rather thin ice right now," Sirius warned.
Jenny bit down on her tongue hard and hurried out of her bedroom and down to the kitchen before she invited more trouble.
Sirius watched Jenny's retreating back and looked at Cas, "Cas, you can't let her talk to you like that, she's got to show you respect. You need to start as you mean to go on with her. Yes, she's unhappy about moving, but you've made this decision and Remus and I are supporting you, but you need to step up and lay down the rules with you sister before she walks all over you," he warned.
"I know how to deal with my little sister thank you very much. And I'd appreciate it if you would butt out!" Cas bit back. He was embarrassed that Sirius had stepped in and didn't appreciate being told he was already screwing up.
Sirius narrowed his eyes at being told, quite literally, to butt out, "hey, no need for that. Just because you're eighteen and a Hogwarts graduate doesn't mean you get to talk to me like that, I'm still your older brother." That he could also still turn Cas over his knee wasn't said, but heavily implied.
Cas blushed in embarrassment, "sorry." He let his face fall into his hands, "I don't know what to do here Sirius. I'd rather not have to… you know, on my first day of taking on guardianship of her," he confessed.
Sirius gave a half grin, "what have to spank her?" He teased. He sobered up then and his expression became serious, "I don't blame you. It's no fun having to spank anyone, especially not your younger siblings, but it's a possibility you're going to have to face. Unless you plan on using a different form of discipline, in which case you know Remus and I will do our best to support you in doing that, but you do need to let us know about it."
It wasn't particularly comforting, but it was true. Cas sighed and shook his head, "no, spankings worked for me, and they've worked for Jenny, it's not fun, but at least it's over quickly. I just don't want her to feel like she can't express her emotions, I don't want her to feel she isn't allowed to be unhappy with my decisions," he explained.
Sirius nodded, "good, if you did then I'd have to try and knock some sense into that fool head of yours. She can be as unhappy as she wants, she can pout and sulk, but you have to draw the line at being disrespectful. You are the adult, her legal guardian, and you deserve her respect."
Cas shot Sirius a grateful look, "thanks."
Sirius grinned and ruffled up the disaster that was Cas' hair, "hey, no need for thanks, I'm your big brother, it's my job to dispense with the sage advice when needed. Like I said, you need anything, even just to chat, you call us. Now it smells like Remus is almost done with breakfast and I don't want to be late for my last breakfast with you guys, so let's go."
Cas raised an eyebrow at the last breakfast comment, he was certain there would be more breakfasts. He shook his head and took another look around the completely unpacked room. He took a deep breath for strength, not looking forward to engaging in a battle of wills with his little sister over packing. "Yeah, breakfast sounds good," he agreed. At minimum he would need the strength the food gave him to help him through this. He got up and felt Sirius wrap his arm around him. He was going to miss living with his big brother, he really was, but he had to do this.
Sirius stopped them in the doorway and pushing past the pain in his heart at doing this he turned to face Jenny's room. With a flick of his wand all her things started making their way into the boxes, "there, that should save you at least one battle of wills and allow you to actually get over to Potter Manor sometime today." He forced a smile on his face, wishing more than anything he'd been able to convince Cas to stay with them, to not take the kids, but Potter's were stubborn, and he'd lost this battle long ago.
Cas was torn again, on one hand he was relieved to have avoided the potential fight with his little sister, but on the other he had wanted Jenny to do this herself, to actually comply with his wishes. The little voice in his head pointed out that the only way Jenny was going to do that would be with a sore bottom and he was supposed to be trying to avoid that. He couldn't argue with that, so he forced his face into a smile as well, "thanks Sirius."
