Danny and Rogue were flying through the Ghost Zone when they came across Clockwork's Tower.

"There it is!" Danny pointed. The two landed on the ground as they entered the ghost's lair.

"Pretty spooky place here." Rogue commented.

"Yeah, but the ghost here is actually pretty benevolent." Danny explained.

They came across the main area of the tower but found that Clockwork was nowhere to be found.

"Where is he?" Rogue asked.

Danny shrugged. "Must be in a meeting with the Observants. They're his bosses."

He guessed that Clockwork was still forbidden from interacting with him, so that's why he wasn't here. Danny went to the portal that served as a gateway to time. He set it to the date when he was supposedly killed and watched what happened.

They saw that Dracula appeared in an alleyway, noticed his past self, and killed him before he was destroyed by his parents' latest invention.

"Vampires are real too?" Rogue asked in disbelief.

"They are now." Danny said as he set the portal for the right date and time.

He grabbed a nearby time medallion and handed it to Rogue. "Here, put this on and don't take it off; if you do, you'll be sent back to your own time period."

Rogue complied. "If you say so."

The two grabbed hands and entered the portal.

He fell into an alleyway and groaned as he got up. Glancing around, he could see he was back in the mortal world at night. As he began to try and figure out where he was, he heard voices.

"So your parents actually built a portal to the spirit world?" The voice of a teenage girl asked.

"Well, they call it the Ghost Zone, but yes." A boy answered.

Dracula turned his eyes to the person who was speaking and saw three teenagers walking. He looked at the one in the middle and gasped. It was a Fenton.

Smirking at being given the opportunity to take revenge against the Fenton clan, he was about to attack when someone from behind grabbed him.

He gasped as he recognized that it was Danny.

"You? How did you find me?" Dracula demanded as Danny pulled him further into the alleyway.

"I followed your little blood trail you left behind." Danny quipped.

The two continued to fight while Rogue flew above the Fenton Works building. She landed on top, where, thankfully, Maddie and Jack had gone downstairs. Activating the searchlight, she shined it down on Danny and Dracula as the vampire went up in flames and died.

Danny gave Rogue a thumbs-up as he joined her on the roof.

"So that's it, then?" Rogue asked. "We stopped Dracula, and now you'll get your powers. Everything worked out."

"Yeah, it did." Danny said as he looked over the night sky of Amity Park. It felt unreal to be back in the past. Before everything had changed, and he had realized his destiny. If only his past self knew that his entire life would change tomorrow.

He looked around the town and spotted his friends, Sam and Tucker, walking home.

Rogue noticed the look of sadness on his face and went up to him. "Is everything okay, sugar?" She asked him.

Danny sighed. "Yeah, it's just those two kids there." Danny pointed at them. "Those are Sam and Tucker; they were my best friends. They were there when I got my powers and had my back ever since."

The southern mutant tried to observe them, but it was too dark to make out their features. "You must really want to get to them in your own timeline."

Danny winced, making Rogue feel that she said something unintentionally hurtful. "I'm sorry if I said something wrong..."

"It's all right." Danny interrupted her. "You didn't know. It's just that they ended up dead in my timeline too. And it was all my fault." Tears dripped down Danny's face as Rogue tried to comfort him.

"There, there." Rogue wiped away his tears. "It's gonna be all right."

"It's not." Danny said heatedly, trying to keep his voice down so that no one heard them. "They died because of me. They had bright futures ahead of them, and they were cheated out of life because of me."

Rogue hugged her alternate boyfriend as she tried to get him out of his depressed mood. She didn't really know Danny that well, but she knew enough. He was a kind and courageous man who was willing to go through hell to protect the people he cared about. She could see why her alternate self fell for him. She's starting to fall for him as well.

Just then, an idea came to Rogue.

"We are in the past." She said. "Maybe you can do something to prevent them from dying."

Danny contemplated the idea. It could work. He would just have to make sure that he never even considers cheating on the C.A.T., but how? He couldn't tell his younger self without a proper explanation; that would just make things even more complicated.

Then it hit Danny. He could talk to Sam. He could convince her to make sure his younger self returned the answers. He could just have Sam tell his younger self about his future self warning her. That way, when his past self accidentally got the answers, he would return them, and the threat of Dan would be gone, and more importantly, his loved ones would be alive.

But then he would never meet the X-Men. He would never cross paths with Rogue or Jubilee. This only made things even more difficult for Danny. It was like trying to choose one life over another. Then again, he could pay a visit to Charles Xavier in this time period and convince him to take his younger self in as an X-Men when he was old enough. That way, his loved ones would be alive, and he would still have Rogue and Jubilee in his life.

It could actually work, and that got Danny excited.

"You're right, Rogue. I can save them." He said. "And I know just how; follow me." He started flying to a place he had been to before.

"Where are we going?" Rogue asked as she flew beside him.

"To visit an old friend." Danny said.

Sam was about to go to bed when a hand covered her mouth.

"Don't scream, okay?" Danny asked as he grabbed Sam, phased her out of the room, and flew into the sky.

He phased her into the empty school, where he met Rogue in the gymnasium.

Danny removed his mouth from Sam as she backed away in fright and screamed.

"I told you not to scream." Danny said in exasperation.

"Who are you? What do you want?" Sam demanded as she eyed them with fear.

"Sam, relax; it's me, Danny." Danny told her.

"What?" Sam thought this guy was obviously insane. She didn't know what he was. She knew he couldn't be human. Him phasing her out of her room and flying was proof enough.

"It's me; I can prove it." Danny argued. "In second grade, Tucker threw up in your lunchbox and blamed it on Ricky Marsh."

Sam gasped. "I pushed him off the monkey bars for that. It was him?" She then stopped as her eyes widened. "Danny?"

Danny turned back into his human form as Sam inspected him. The black hair and blue eyes confirmed it for her.

"It really is you." Sam whispered. "But how? How did you become..."

"A ghost?" Danny answered.

"Ghosts are real?" Sam then noticed Rogue. "Who's that?"

"Oh, this is Rogue; she's my..." Danny didn't really know how to describe his relationship with this Rogue.

"I'm his girlfriend." Rogue said proudly as she placed her arm around Danny.

"Girlfriend?" Sam repeated in a shocked tone as she tried to hide her jealousy.

"Sam, focus." Danny scolded her. "I need your help."

"With what?" Sam asked.

"Tomorrow, I will have an accident with the ghost portal, which gives me these powers." Danny made his hands glow to emphasize his point. "I came back because I need you to do something very important."

Sam was hanging onto each word. It just seemed unreal. Ghosts were real, and her friend became one and came back in time to warn her. "What?"

"There will be a test in school. The C.A.T. and my past self will end up getting the answers by complete accident. I need you to make sure he doesn't cheat at all and returns the answers instead."

"That's it?" Sam said in disbelief. "Make sure you don't cheat on a test. Why?"

"Trust me, you don't want to know." Danny said. "Can you do this for me?"

"Of course, Danny." Sam said. "You're my friend; how can I not?"

Danny sighed in relief. "Great. Now to make sure my past self doesn't argue with you when you tell him to return the answers, I want you to tell him about this conversation, and I'll give you proof to show him that you're not lying."

"What proof?" Sam asked.

Danny handed her a camera he took from her room. "Take a photo of me and show it to him so he knows you're telling the truth."

Sam did as he requested. "So, that's it? Seems kinda anti-climatic."

Danny shrugged. "Yeah, but at least it's easy. Now let's get you back home." He brought her into his arms and flew into the sky, returning to her place.

This time, instead of being terrified, Sam was exhilarated as she was flown home.

They soon arrived, and Danny placed her on her bed. "Thanks again, Sam; you really don't know how much I appreciate it."

"No problem, Danny." Sam said. It was still pretty weird to see her friend as a grown adult. "We're still friends in the future, right?"

Danny smiled. "The best." He lied. "You and Tucker were the only ones who had my back during those difficult times. And I can't thank you enough." He turned to leave. "Sweet dreams."

He then headed back to the school, where he and Rogue decided to sleep.

"So what do we do now?" Rogue asked him.

"Well, we'll make sure the accident goes as it's supposed to, and then after that, I'll speak to Xavier to make sure he takes me in as one of his students when I'm old enough. I want my family to be alive, but I still want you and Jubilee in my life."

Rogue was touched by that until she heard the name Jubilee. "Jubilee." She said jealously.

"My foster sister." Danny said. "Although I don't think she will be my foster sister in this timeline, I'm sure that we'll still be close when this is all over."

"You're a good man, you know that?" Rogue said. "Wanting to protect the people you love. You must really have made me happy back in your time."

Danny chuckled. "I hope I do."

Rogue snuggled into him. "I'm sure you do. You're making me awfully happy right now."

Danny kissed Rogue's forehead as they drifted off to sleep.

The two woke up in the early morning as Danny kept them invisible as they explored the school, waiting for the day to end. While observing his younger self and his friends, Sam seemed to be a bit nervous and melancholy for some reason.

"That's weird." He muttered to Rogue. "I remember she was very excited to see the portal that day."

Rogue could only give a shrug as an answer as they continued to watch the trio. The rest of the day went off without anything unusual happening, although Danny had to hold back Rogue from attacking Dash when she saw him picking on his younger self.

School soon ended as the trio went back to Danny's home, with the two time travelers invisibly following them.

They hung out in Danny's room before Sam convinced his younger self to show her and Tucker the portal.

"Here it comes." Danny said to Rogue as they stood in the lab as the three teenagers were exploring the invention.

Sam held up her camera to take a photo, but she stopped as she looked at Danny with a look of uncertainty.

"You all right, Sam?" Past Danny asked her. "You seem sort of depressed."

"I, uh..." She tried to come up with a good excuse. "Need more film for the camera. Is it cool if I go upstairs and look for some?"

Danny nodded. "Sure, but I don't know if we have any."

Sam ran up the stairs and closed the door as she sat at the kitchen table.

"What's with her?" Tucker asked.

Danny and Rogue shared a glance of worry before they made their way to the kitchen and turned visible to Sam.

Sam managed to stop herself from screaming and alerting her friends. She glared at the two. "Can you find a way of appearing that doesn't give me a heart attack?"

"Sorry." Danny said sheepishly. "But what's wrong? I know you didn't run out of film that day."

Sam sighed. "I've just been feeling guilty. You're my friend, Danny, and I feel bad that I'm essentially tricking you into killing yourself. I mean, you must have gone through a lot with those powers, right?"

"Man, what's taking her so long?" Tucker asked as Past Danny was putting on the jumpsuit he had.

"Don't know." Past Danny said. "How do I look?"

"You might want to remove your dad's face." Tucker advised, as Past Danny saw that there was a picture of Jack's face on his jumpsuit.

"Noted." Past Danny ripped it off. "I'm gonna go see where Sam is."

He was walking up the stairs and was about to open the door to the kitchen when he heard unfamiliar voices. Getting curious, he opened the door a bit and listened it.

"It was hard, Sam." Danny admitted. "There were the nights where I didn't get any sleep, the constant fights with other ghosts, and having to avoid my parents so they didn't try and dissect me, but the world needs Danny to have the accident with the portal so he becomes me."

"What!" Past Danny threw the door open as he confronted his supposed future self.

"Shit!" Danny exclaimed as his past self came into the room.

"What's going on?" Tucker joined the group and noticed the newcomers. "Who are these guys?" His eyes were then drawn to Rogue as he confidently walked up to her.

"Hi." Tucker flirted. "I'm Tucker, Tucker Foley. Initials T F, as in too fine." He grabbed her hand and kissed it, but he ended up kissing the small part of Rogue's skin that was her wrist, causing him to fall to the ground.

"Tucker!" Past Danny and Sam went to their friend.

Danny's eyes widened as he hoped that Tucker didn't end up in a coma like Cody did.

Rogue was screaming as she held her hands to her head, processing Tucker's memories.

She managed to get it under control, but for some reason she felt a craving for meat and obsessing over technology.

"What did you do to him?" Past Danny demanded of Rogue, but Danny got in his path.

"Enough! She didn't mean to do it. It was an accident." He picked up Tucker's unconscious body, phased up to his old bedroom, and placed Tucker on the bed before going down to the kitchen.

"Just calm down." Danny tried to reason with his past self. "We're not here to hurt you!"

"Is Tucker going to be okay?" Sam asked.

"He'll be fine." Danny lied, not knowing what Tucker's condition would be. He could always just go back in time and make sure that didn't happen.

"Who are you? What are you doing in my house?" Past Danny interrogated.

"Danny, stop!" Sam tried to calm him down. "He's you. Your future self."

Past Danny didn't believe this one bit. "That's ridiculous, Sam. Time travel is impossible.

"It was Tucker who killed your gerbil." Danny said bluntly as his past self's eyes widened at this.

"You're me." He said numbly. "You really are me." Past Danny overlooked the appearance of his future self. He was taller and more muscular, wearing a black and white jumpsuit, with white hair and green eyes. He also had some kind of aura around him that made him glow.

Past Danny then recalled what he overheard when he was eavesdropping on him. "I have an accident with the portal and get powers?"

Danny nodded, seeing no way out of this. He'll have to make another trip through time to clean up this mess.

Recalling the information he heard, Past Danny's eyes then widened as he recalled the part about his parents. "My parents will try to dissect me?"

"They don't know it's you." Danny tried to reassure him.

"But do they find out eventually, and do they accept me?" Past Danny asked, as he looked like his world was about to fall apart.

Danny hesitated as he tried to come up with a lie. He couldn't tell his past self about their deaths, but his silence only made his past self feel worse.

"They don't accept me?" Past Danny had tears in his eyes. "I don't want to become you. I don't want to be a freak!"

"You're gonna have to." Danny retorted. "The world needs us. It needs you."

"No, I don't want to become a ghost!" Past Danny cried. "I don't want to die!"

Rogue tried to get Past Danny to see reason. "Sugar, listen to us; the future needs you..."

Past Danny interrupted her. "The future is hopeless if my own parents try to hunt me down with a scalpel!" He turned to his future self. "I'll never become you! Never!"

He ran past them and out the door as they chased him.

"Danny, come back!" Danny demanded, but his past self kept running.

"I won't become you!" Past Danny got on a scooter and started to take off, prompting Danny to grab Sam as he flew after him with Rogue following behind.

Past Danny could see he was being pursued, so he tried to make a quick turn to escape his chasers, only to end up in the path of a semi truck coming toward him.

The driver panicked and turned the other way, placing him in the path of an incoming car, causing them to crash. Unfortunately, as Past Danny tried to get out of the way, he ended up turning in the same direction as the truck, putting him in between it and the incoming car.

"NO!" Danny turned back human as he, Sam, and Rogue ran to the truck that had stopped as the driver got out to see if the boy was still alive.

Past Danny was bleeding out as he was crushed between two vehicles.

"Danny!" Sam was in hysterics at seeing the state her friend was in. She ran up to him. "It's going to be okay, Danny! You're going to be all right! Please stay with us! Stay with me!"

Danny could only watch as his past self let out one strangled gasp for air before he died.

Danny Fenton was no more.

Danny just stood in place. He couldn't accept the fact that his past self was dead. Nothing caused him to move from where he was standing. Not his sister and Jazz coming to see the scene and breaking out in tears at seeing his mangled corpse, nor the paramedics that managed to get the body out. Not even when Sam broke down while her parents, who arrived when they heard about the accident, comforted her. Sam couldn't bear it as she ran away while her parents tried to follow.

It was like an unreal dream, or more precisely, a nightmare. He couldn't believe that he had caused this. How one little conversation could end up leading to his death. Then again, in another future, he turned evil for cheating on a test. It all brought up how time was a fragile thing that shouldn't be tampered with lightly, but he was too arrogant to not heed the warning. He thought he could mess with time so he could have it all, but now he had nothing.

Now the future Rogue came from was still going to happen. All because of him.

"Danny?" Rogue placed a hand on his shoulder.

"We have to fix this." Danny stated. "We have to get the portal working and make our way to Clockwork's lair so we can undo all this."

He grabbed her hand and turned ghost as the two flew back to Fenton Works. They phased through the building and made their way to the lab, where they found that someone was already there.

"Sam?" Danny saw that Sam was in the portal, banging on it, not even acknowledging his presence.

"Give me back Danny!" She shouted at the portal as she started to punch it, blaming it for her friend's untimely death. "I want him back!"

"Sam, stop!" Danny tried to warn her, but it was too late as her fist ended up pressing the on button, causing the portal to turn on with Sam inside, vaporizing her.

"Sam!" Danny shouted as he fell to his knees. "No!"

This couldn't be happening. He couldn't lose Sam again. Not after all he had been through. It was like some cruel joke.

"What happened?" Rogue asked as she looked at the portal worriedly. "Does she have powers now?"

Danny thought of the possibility that Sam could become a hybrid as he waited for her to stumble out of the portal with her newfound powers. He waited a couple of seconds, then minutes. It had been a full ten minutes before Danny finally accepted the cold truth.

She wasn't coming back.

Sam was dead.

And this only served to make Danny break down in tears. No matter what he did, the people he cared about were always destined to die. No amount of time travel could stop that.

"Danny, get up!" Rogue demanded as she pulled him to his feet. "You got to pull yourself together! We can fix this! We can go back in time and stop this from ever happening! It doesn't have to be this way!"

The X-Man processed those words as he realized that Rogue was right. It wasn't too late to set everything right. He had to make sure it all didn't end up falling apart.

"Let's go." Danny said quietly as they entered the ghost portal. As they appeared in the Ghost Zone, Danny looked over his shoulder and gave one last look at the portal.

"I'm sorry, Sam." He whispered before turning back to go to Clockwork's lair.

They arrived at Clockwork's lair and found that he was once again absent.

Danny paid no mind to this as he looked at the gateway. "Alright, let's hope we don't mess it up this time."

Before Danny could say anything else, he felt an ecto-blast hit his back, knocking him to the floor. As he turned around, he was confronted with himself. The ghost of Past Danny.

His ghost form looked much different.

He still had raven-black hair, but his eyes were still green. The jumpsuit he wore still had the same colors and wasn't inverted like his. His aura, instead of being white, was now green.

Overall, this wasn't Danny Phantom, but the ghost of Danny Fenton.

"How did you find this place?" Danny asked.

"I followed you here." Past Danny revealed. "And now I can time travel and make sure I never die or become you!"

"You don't get it! You have to become me; the future is doomed if you don't!" Danny shouted.

Past Danny floated in between the two and the gateway.

"I don't believe you." He said. "Thanks to you, I'm dead. I'm a freak! I can't show my face to my parents anymore because of you! This is all your fault!"

He fired an ecto-blast at Danny, making him block it with a shield.

'He got that power early.' Danny thought. 'I wonder how.' He then realized that the grief and anger his past self had must be fueling him and allowing his powers to show up earlier than they were supposed to.

Past Danny fired a ghost ray at Rogue, who was blasted deeper into the tower.

Danny snarled at his past self before punching him. "You have to let me fix things, or else we're all doomed."

Past Danny charged at Danny as the two wrestled.

Rogue came back and pulled the younger phantom off. "Listen to us, you idiot!"

"Fuck you!" Past Danny punched her. Rogue was getting pissed off as she tackled the teenage ghost.

Danny decided to set the record straight as he went up to the gateway and made it show the future. He then blasted his younger self off Rogue.

"You want to know what happens if you stay normal?" Danny said angrily. "Watch for yourself!" He gestured to the gateway.

Past Danny went up to the gateway as he saw the horrible future. He saw a humongous behemoth of a ghost commanding an army of ghostly skeletons as they invaded the planet. He saw people crying out for help as they were killed by these monsters. He saw other heroes unable to stop this invasion as they were either killed or possessed as their bodies were used against their will.

He saw a rebellion fighting, and he could see Rogue among them as they tried to take back the world, but they were all outnumbered.

"This is what happens when you stay normal." Danny told him. "You won't be able to stop these things from taking over, and as a result, the entire world is enslaved. Look Rogue in the eye and tell her that you want this to happen. If you really want to be normal, then tell her that you don't care what happens to her and the people in her time."

Past Danny couldn't bring himself to do it as he started sobbing.

The two adults gave the teenager looks of sympathy as they brought him into a hug.

"I'm sorry." Past Danny apologized. "I was just scared of my future."

"I know what you mean, I really do." Danny told him. "More than you know. But as hard as it is, we can't have a normal life without hundreds of innocents dying. That's why I need to go back and make sure none of this happens."

"I..." Past Danny paused a bit before continuing. "I understand. I won't stop you."

"Thank you. You're saving so many lives by doing this." Danny then went to the gateway and set it to take them to the past.

Rogue patted Past Danny's shoulder. "Cheer up, sugar. Life may get rough, but soon you'll see that it isn't all bad. I mean, you get me as a girlfriend."

Past Danny looked at Rogue in bewilderment. "You're my girlfriend?"

Rogue chuckled. "I will be soon enough." She kissed him on the cheek. "Take care." She then joined Danny as they traveled to the past, leaving the young Fenton alone.

"Wow, an older woman likes me." He joked.

Just then he felt someone grab him from behind, and he gasped as he saw it was himself. The two started fighting with each other, while Rogue was doing the same with another version of herself.

A few seconds later, the two pairs glowed with light, leaving behind one Danny and one Rogue.

"What just happened?" Rogue asked.

"We merged with our past selves, I think." Danny guessed. "I don't know. We'll be here all night if we try to figure it out."

"So how do we fix things?" Rogue inquired.

"We don't." Danny answered. "We already fixed the timeline; there's nothing more than we can do without wrecking it again." He said sadly, accepting that he couldn't prevent his loved ones from dying. It was inevitable.

"Then what do we do?" Rogue asked.

Danny sighed. "We take off our time medallions. I'll be taken back to my timeline while you..." He realized this Rogue would be erased from existence.

"Erased from existence?" She finished for him. "I already assumed that was the case when we first traveled back through time." She smiled at Danny. "It's been really great spending time with you; I can't wait until I'm replaced with a version of me that is with you."

Danny chuckled. "Thank you for all your help, Rogue."

"Anna Marie." Rogue corrected.

Danny raised an eyebrow. "What?"

"My real name is Anna Marie." Rogue told him. "I guess she didn't tell you that yet. Well, I think you earned it. Goodbye, Danny. May we meet again." She was about to remove the time medallion when she stopped.

"Hang on. There's something I need to do real quick." She grabbed Danny by his shoulders and pulled him in for a kiss. After a few seconds, she separated from him. "I always wanted to do that. Take care, sugar." She took the time medallion off and dropped it to the ground as she faded from existence.

Danny then saw the time medallion disappear before taking off his own as he was transported back to his time.

Danny smiled as he appeared in his bedroom. Looking around, he saw that there was a time medallion on his bed. He picked it up.

"Thanks, Clockwork." He said before placing it in a drawer. He then left the room and ran down to the kitchen, where Rogue was cooking breakfast.

Smirking, he snuck up behind her and pulled her into a deep kiss.

"Well, good morning to you, sugar." Rogue said in contentment.

"Good morning, Anna Marie." Danny said.

Rogue gasped. "How did you know?"

"It's a long story." Danny replied.
